What sort of problems will I encounter if I root the stock rom for T580? - Samsung Galaxy Tab A series Questions & Answers

I am planning to eventually root the stock rom of SM-T580 to use AdAway and Greenify.
What sort of problems / side effects if any might I run into after rooting the stock rom?
Also I do not plan on using SuperSU as I will be using Magisk.

Some apps can not be installed anymore. (Netflix from playstore, super mario). Magisk does not prevent this. Use a browser with an ad blocker.

Not even with Magisk hide enabled?

Not on my tab s2 with magisk.

Netflix working fine here with Magisk 13.0 and Stock Android N. But on my OnePlus One Netflix isn't available even with Magisk.

When updating Magisk is it better to use the uninstaller zip and flash Magisk again or is using the built in updater fine?

You can't go wrong any way you use magisk. Mostly everything can be flashed directly from magisk. Remember magisk is root and has control. You won't have any problem updating magisk right from it's interface. The only time I've had a problem, has been from flashing a magisk module that doesn't support my device. Best regards.

Trying to root NBD91K sends the phone into a bootloop

I am running NBD91K build, but every time I flash supersu, it sends my phone into a bootloop. I am running the latest TWRP and tried SuperSu 2.78 SR5. Anyone having the same problem?

Are you using suhide by any chance?
I've been stuck at bootloop when i tried to force system (not systemless) root on nougat. So my first thought was to delete /data/.supersu... then I've managed to reinstall root systemlessly, but after a few tries it stayed on the bootloop.... I had to reflash system.img and then I flashed the supersu once again and it works like magic.
Yes, I am using suhide

Suhide does not work with 7.0+ roms with the November security patch. You need to flash the suhide Uninstaller and just use supersu
You're right, unintalling suhide and I can boot my phone after rooting, thanks. Too bad suhide doesn't work with the november patch, otherwise I can't get android pay working.

Ensure that you have uninstalled SuperSU prior to flashing Magisk v9 and phh Superuser.
After, install Magisk Manager apk posted on its thread and phh Superuser manager & SafetyNet Helper from playstore.
You can then hide Magisk from SafetyNet within Magisk Manager setting. Run SafetyNet Helper to test whether you pass the SafetyNet check or not. If everything is passed, then you should be able to use Android Pay & Pokemon Go .

How to hide root for Super Mario Run?

Super Mario Run is detecting root and it doesn't allow you to play, even it doesn't appears in the Play Store if you have root. If you have custom ROM it doesn't work too.
Is there any way to hide root in Stock Nougat? Someone could make run Super Mario Run with root?
What root manager are you using? You could try rooting with Magisk and see if magisk hide shields your rooted status from the game. https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445 Of course this is assuming you have ElementalX kernel or a similar kernel already installed on your device.

Yes, I'm using ElementalX kernel and I flash Magisk but it don't work maybe there is some conflict with the older root. Someone can confirm if it work that metod? If it work I flash stock from zero
EDIT: I make it work cleaning the cache and data from the app, anyway I can't buy it, It doesn't appears in the Play Store.
It's working with Magisk hide
I have SuperMario Run and it's working just fine.
I didn't know it looked for root.
Using Magisk with Magisk hide enabled.
Nougat NPJ25. 93-14. Stock.

Root, update to Nougat and hide root

Hi,
To be honest I am a bit bored of the standard ROM, having come from other phones where I root and have a play. I did try to root once and did so successfully and installed a new ROM (Was CM13 or 14 I think) but some of my work applications (email, calendar etc) and some games (e.g. Pokemon Go) require you to not have root.
I found some website links to use hideSU and Magisk but I couldnt get it to work when toggling, and was stuck with it showing as rooted. This was around 6 months ago though
When I try to do a search now, most of the links relate back to the old Magisk process which didnt work for me last time and is still 6-12 month old links. Does anyone have an easier, step by step process of how to root, flash ROM and then hide root?
I am familiar with flashing, so no issue explaining that - I just need to know what steps in between/after flashing I need to do to hide root.
Thanks
Install any rom with Magisk. Then go to Magisk Manager app, enable Magisk hide under its settings, and then install your applications normally. It's so simple. Don't forget to check root status in Magisk app. Sometimes SafetyNet shows as not passing, but there are fixes to make it work.
I personally recommend ResurrectionRemix and AOSP Extended ROMs, but there are lot of roms with Magisk now.
Ah, I have to install ROM through Magisk? I did mine through TWRP I think and then did Magisk, this might be where I went wrong. Will try again, thanks

Nope. Install ROM that includes Magisk (and gapps) through TWRP, then use Magisk Manager app that is included in ROM. Sorry for missing that part. Quote me next time so I get the notification.

Ah thanks, so need specific ROM that includes Magisk.
If i want to say install RR Remix, anyway i can flash the ROM and then Magisk separately?
Hi 3sixty , How did you succeed in hiding your app through magisk ? any positive methods.. I will be happy to know as I'm trying to solve a similar problem with my samsung galaxy note 5.
Flash any ROM, flash magisk, update magisk manager and enable magisk hide
Sent from my ONE A2005 using Tapatalk
Well, I never used Magisk, but i used to hide root by installing Root Cloak App from Xposed. So you have to flash Xposed framework as well. It used to work with most of the apps with android 4-6, except for 1-2 banking apps.
For Custom Roms, I recommend Ressurection Remix over all ROMs after MIUI ROMs. MIUI ROMs are available for other handsets as well and not just Xiaomi.

A lot of apps (and system settings) won't work unless I hide root

I've been experiencing a weird issue since I installed DU on my 6p; a lot of apps crash when I try to open them until I use Magisk Hide on them. Not just user apps, I couldn't even connect to my JBL speakers via bluethoot until I hided root to my bluethoot-share system application. I can't get chrome (or anyhting related to it, like the in-app browser of Facebook) to work, and i've tried a lot of versions of Chrome and even Opera; the only thing I could get working it's Firefox. I can't even change my wallpaper (my launcher crashes).
On the other hand, apps that support root, like amaze file manager, work smoothly even without being granted root permission.
I'm a noob, so i have no idea what's causing the problem, but i'll try my best to give you my setup in case you can help me.
- I'm using official Dirty Unicorns ROM v11.3 (7.1.2) with the correspondent stock kernel (unicornblood)
- I'm rooted by chainfire's SuperSU v2.79
I don't know if the mods i've installed have anything to do, but i'll share them just in case
I installed these audio mods:
- Hi-Performance DAC Enabler:
- aptX™ HD Enabler
- AINUR Pandora
This other thermal mod: CTTmod
And I'm using Magisk v12.0
Thank you very much in advance
I don't think you can use Magisk and SuperSu at the same time because Magisk includes its own root app, PhilsSu. You are basically using two different root apps at the same time. You can try uninstalling SuperSu or Magisk but you might be better off doing a clean flash of DU, Gapps then either SuperSu or Magisk but not both.

When I tried to install magisk without SuperSU it asked me to root my device first and aborted installation
I've never used Magisk but I thought PhilsSu was part of it. I suppose you can download PhilsSu separately and flash it before Magisk but I know that's the rooting app that works with Magisk, not SuperSu.

Now that I think about it I'm pretty sure I read that you can uninstall SuperSu using the Play Store app then choose to root with PhilsSu within Magisk if you have both installed at the same time.
Magisk v12 is its own root solution. It doesn't use SuperSU & it doesn't use PHH superuser either. It's its own thing now. Magisk Hide does not hide SuperSU, only its own root. So if you're using Magisk Manager to hide apps while SuperSU is installed, it's literally doing nothing. Your root is not hidden and you should be able to confirm this using a root checker app. I guess it's possible that having both is causing your issues, but I follow the Magisk general support thread and never see issues that severe. I'd guess it's a stability issue on your ROM.
If you want to use Magisk Hide correctly, you need to get rid of SuperSU. Select the full unroot option from the settings. Hop on over to osm0sis thread here and grab and flash the unsu.zip he has over there. Then flash your ROMs boot.img again (unless it's rooted). That'll completely wipe SuperSU and let you use Magisk.
So basically (stock phone > unlock bootloader > install TWRP > flash Magisk v12) and now you're rooted. No SuperSU / anything else is involved. V12 literally roots you and you need to clean up SuperSU to use it properly.

Can LOS14.1 pass safetynet?

Trying to pass safetynet to use my banks app and pokemon go, using the latest LOS14.1
I tried going the Magisk way, but it still fails CTS.
Is there anyway to make it happen with root and passing safetynet?
You have to use Magisk for root. SuperSU and LineageOS's versions of root will not pass safetynet from my experience. I don't know if it helps but I also have the Play Store and Nintendo's games enabled on Magisk Hide.

I used this guide and it didn't work. Is there another MagiskSU that I'm missing?
EDIT: I got it to work! In the guide above, it says to flash SU in Systemless mode. I just flashed Magisk without SU and it worked! Thanks!
You need Magisk v12 and kernel that includes bootloader status patch. I'm using old version of AX7Kernel, but Beastmode also has it. Not sure about other ones. I'm running relatively recent build and using Android Pay pretty frequently.
@edit And make sure to enable Magisk Hide
