Why are all the custom roms for the Galaxy On5 made for Europeon Variants? - Samsung Galaxy On5 Questions & Answers

So, I am a little frustrated, and I am sure this has been answered but I cant seem to find the answer.(at least not one that makes sense anyway) . Why on earth are all the custom roms made for European variants of our beloved cell phones? I have spent tireless hours combing through the hundreds of youtube videos, and dozens of forum posts, to only find one single Custom ROM that works correctly for the Galaxy on5 SM-G550T1. (Thank you to czarsuperstar for giving us The Superstarz Rom, You did it right and finished the job.)
I know I am a noob and all and I definitely am no DEV, but could someone please help me and explain this to me like I am a 2 year old. Why is there no US variants of custom mods? Now I have looked up several different phones but to no avail, unless you own a samsung NOTE or S series your just out of luck. And NO, a rom that has no sound is NOT complete, just sayin.
I know that building one of these custom roms is not an easy task, god knows my dumb ass couldnt do it, but if your going to build something, please finish the job, I mean I would never give you a house I built, that was short a roof.

No worries bro I've been porting a rom just for our g550t1 give me little bit because my job barely have time but it will get done. Also I still need to ask for permission befor posting. Just want to make sure everything is right

That is awesome! I really enjoy my on5 and I would really hate to have to buy a different phone. I know it is not high end but it has become part of who i am, so much that I bought a second one for myself just in case some tragedy were to happen to my beloved On5. I am looking forward to your work and hope to further my experience as, what I call myself, a tech geek in training. maybe someday I will be able to build a rom and repay all the ones who have helped me in my journey. I aspire to be half as smart as those of you who do build custom roms. Thank you for the work you are doing and I cannot wait to see what you have in store

Yeah this is the first phone i ever rooted, only new to this bout 2 months. But it is sad that i cant find a sweet ROM for G550T1 mPCS. But it seems that whoever can Master this model will be shiznit. But dying to get rid of this stock ROM.

Well since I posted this there has very little help in the way of getting a ROM made or even ported one for the G550T1, So I figured I would take upon myself to educate myself in the ways of the force. It hasnt been easy but I think I may be close to having an actually working ROM, That has sound and everything, imagine that, sound. Its only taken me what 2 months to gain headway. So, bro keep your head up there may be light at the end of the tunnel yet.

I am so close I just have a few quirks to iron out and I will have completed the 2nd custom ROM in known history for the American variant of the on5. I don't know if it works on the g550t2 but as soon as I am done I will let you know and you can test it out

ok thank you so much

Im not either but I have done alot of reading and a load of trial and error. I have dedicated every moment I am not at work to creating this ROM. So I hope it will be as badass as I imagined.

Well........I think i may have done it, I hope I have at least. All I need now is a Few Beta testers to give this baby a try and let me know what i could change or improve. Once that is in place I guess It will get released.....any takers?

My friend just handed the on5 off on me a couple days ago. I'm more than willing to blow it up in the pursuit of happiness.

Reposted from Android Central (link above):
Guys and Gals -
First off, I had a read through and I'm glad for you all that it looks like you might get a working camera with the 2.1 leak. Congratulations to whomever figured it out.
Now on to the not so good news. This morning I received an email from the developer of a popular market application. It seems that someone has put out a ROM full of stolen software, and associated my name with it, as they took the boot image from one of my ROMS and called it their own. This developer and I have squared things away, so no harm no foul on my end.
It does leave me in a dilemma. Rather than have my name tossed in to a mix like this again, I've decided that I'm finished developing for the Hero. Enjoy the work, I won't take it down, and if I can get Google Earth and Nexus one wallpapers working a bit better (yes I have it loading and running, but it locks the system up after 30 seconds or so) I'll pass that fix to the few people here who have helped out so that they can package it up in any way they like.
The person responsible (and I won't name names - they know who they are, and the work they put out with my name attached isn't hard to find) has really soured me. I have been an open source developer for almost 20 years, and am very happy that the carrier I use for cellular service finally released a (mostly) open source operating system for me to play with. The way I see it this leaves me with two choices:
1. - Stop releasing work that others can use in any way they like
2. - Stop developing altogether for the Hero.
I chose number 2. There is already enough closed development and a "I'm first" mindset. That also goes against everything I believe in, so it's not an option. Bundling my name with software piracy and IP theft is not an option either. I will not let this happen again.
Keep the flames and ignorant comments to yourself please. I've thought about this all day, and this is my decision. I'll always be available to help others in any way I can, but I won't be publishing any more work. Rather then wasting time and energy to tell me how wrong I am, please use that effort to congratulate the individual who has placed me in this position. Sorry, but it is what it is.
Jerry.

Don't forget BIKCMP with the Pancake rom, but he seems to be respectable too IMO. I don't think I've seen a rom yet that doesn't incorporate at the least Gbhils custom memory killer kernel.

Well, first lets thank gbhil for his effort, time, and work that he's put into helping us develop.
His guidance has helped almost every project associated with the CDMA Hero.
You will be missed.
That being said, let us not take this as setback. Use it as inspiration to get your own hands dirty. There's no better time than now to learn the trade.
And please, don't go on a witchhunt to attempt to bring this person to "justice." It puts the entire community into a bad light, something that a lot of us don't want.

I think when he says boot image he might mean the actual boot.img of his roms. That has to be modified for his kernel to work in the first place, so everything out there incorporating his work has in some way used it.

thanks i was kind of looking something for a sprint based rom just to be safe...i basically wanna take out as much htc stuff out that will permit and replace it all with aosp theres a couple people who have done this but didnt fully "AOSP-IZE" it thanks tho appreciate the link
Because if you read,
AOSP-IZING the sprint rom caused it not to have a camera, and all of the experienced devs gave up, because it really wasn't possible......
But good luck..

Not that IM that experienced, but i know a bit about compiling and *nix. I am attempting to build it, its not going to be ready any time soon. Important things right now are touch screen dont work, cam etc.
I really dont care at this point if aosp means I have to downgrade camera to 3MP then so be it. Not all of us have given up... Some are just taking breaks, and some are waiting for htc to release the source after the timeframe is up for the 2.1 official rollouts.
So dont get your hopes up from me, I am just saying dont give up and there are quite a few of us out there that want the aosp love.

you do know the "lag fixes" are the cause of people posting problems with their Internal SD messed up and corrupted?
also people posting about semi-bricked phone unbootable past the boot screen logo?
^^ you're right!

Please do keep in mind that such things to most end users who don't want to get their hands dirty or potentially lose their warranty, are trivial. Not everyone wants to experiment with what's not official. Further more, stating that something is the "best" is pretty baseless. Most users will trust the vendor first. To them, that would be the best! Not to mention that better things keep coming along the way anyway, so it's just best to wait IMHO....

[Q] Can someone tell me how to Deodex my phone?

Hey guys,
First of all I wanna say how frustrated I am with how slow the development of themes and roms is going. I'm so anxious to unleash the BEAST inside of the Fascinate. It's an amazing phone with so much potential, but it just needs a few things. I had an Incredible since it came out, and the options were endless with roms/themes/kernels, you name it. Nevertheless, I won't complain because I'm not a dev and I have so much respect for those guys.
Anyway, I'm really looking to port over some themes from a few other different phones. However, from what I understand my phone needs to be deodexed. Can someone tell me how to go about doing this? Any help would be great!

Hmmm, really now?
If you're that anxious, quit your job and start developing fascinate ROMs full time.
I'm sure these guys are doing their best, and it's only been a few weeks.
We have root and clockwork so far, the rest will be coming soon.
Wow, I love how quickly the flaming starts. I stated in my first post about how I appreciate everything the devs are doing, I'm just anxious that's all. I thought by asking a question like this I'd get some productive feedback from someone so that I could start theming my phone. But apparently that's not the case.
So does anyone want to help or does everyone just want to flame me?
Thanks

You guys flaming must be really bored. Of all the posts that deserve a jab, his seemed pretty innocuous.
Anyway, I have deodexed other android phones (Incredible, Droid X) and the manual process was, if not brutal, at least time consuming and buggy. Better to just wait for one of those developers you were good naturedly poking for some advice to release a pre-deodexed zip.

Hey, no need for flaming anyone. We understand that the process is moving slowly. We just have other things that we want to get finished first. There are a few people just trying to get the kernel to boot from the source samsung posted. There has already been some breakthroughs, wifi and sound is what they are working on now.
As for roms, fallingup posted a semi-clean rom. It's not deodexed, but it gets rid of alot of the bloatware.
Matt4542 is trying to get his running and it is deodexed, he is also trying to find a phone lol.....

I posted a mod to get your lockscreen back to stock http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=791089
We pretty much all work other places, so no one is fully giving their time. This weekend i'm sure we will have some more progress. So just go out and enjoy your weekend and when you come back on monday hopefully there will be some new stuff.
Edit : feel free to join the #samsung-fascinate irc chat room on freenode, its the best place to keep up with the movement.
Thanks so much guys for the info. I wouldn't call myself a newbie when it comes to this stuff but I don't think I'm ready to take on this project alone.
So I'll just wait patiently like I have been and try theming some other ways. Thanks for posting the manup theme and the stock lock screen. Those lookpretty good. I can't wait for a good aosp rom!

Just skip the vzwlbs files. They have issues. Xeudoxus confirmed VZW's ****ty code is producing the errors. Just so you know I already tried this and applying the deodexed files borked my phone. I had to odin system. It may have been my method of applying the files. I believe it's best to do it in recovery. Best of luck. I hope you get it working.
Also had similarly bad success here. Pushed the deodex'ed files back into system/app and system/framework, and removed all odex files except the vzwlbs.odex.
Phone got black screen after the VZW boot up animation.

Galaxy S Plus i9001: ICS Port

Hey guys!
I'm tired, .... tired of waiting for an ICS port / Offical Update to ICS for my phone!
I've waited and hoped that anyone would do anything, ... but nothing happened. And it don't seems if anything will happen.
Now the better News.
I decided to do the work!!! After the "§$%&/()=* Christmas i gonna start. I waited and hoped that someone other does the main work (bootable ICS on i9001), on which I can continue but %&*§ .... noone wanted
So it will be me, doing the stuff. I know its damn much to do, ... but who cares, I gonna do that!!! But U don't need to ask me every day if it works. I think I need 2-3 weeks to have a bootable ROM.
peace out
Frosbite
im sure someone is willing to help. heck, if i know those coding stuff i would not mind to help out. anyway thanks in advance for doing it
No-one hasn't been able to do it since there isn't roms for samsung phones. Only on Nexus or so. Sgs2 will get it later next year.
IF samsung is gonna give sgs+ user's ics it will take time.
Sony put out beta version out but it's mainly to see how it's looking & for developers and therefore not working (no calls, no sms, no wifi...).
Good luck with your project.

are u sure u have the right equipment for that project? u are aware that only compiling a version from source takes around 9 hours u can also make use of a dump image from the Nexus S if there is any.

Maybe it will take 9 hours, ..... on YOUR machine. I'm working as a Systemadmin right here and "MY computer" will only need some minutes
Be sure, I thoroughly thought about my possibilities to do it. The results of my thoughts were clearly, thats why I decided to do the port

On my machine it would take even more than 15 hrs , but that's not the point. It's just that don't give people false hope. When u open a thread like this in the dev section u should've at least started the work.

I think you mean SDK porting like sakindia says in minutes.

@frostbite,
nice to hear, i would support you if it is really possible.
Wobei ich kein Entwickler bin, ich bin gespannt. Android 2.3 von Samsung verwurstelt gefällt mir überhaupt nicht.

http://dl-developer.sonyericsson.com/Xperia/ICS/Alpha/Xperia_arcS_ICS_alpha.zip?param=1324660578907 use the arc s version since arc s has the similar processor, gpu, ram and other hardware so it migth be easier to port it from this

No, I don't mean a crapy SDK port. I mean a REAL port for REAL i9001-Devices!!!
Be sure, a MP-Xeon Server should manage the stuff
Frostbite88 i would like to work with u on this
how are things going?
hey guys.
i wanted to tell you the current situation.
the port i already booting, i can hear the sound, but 2 problems left for publishing an "alpha version". display is not working yet and the touchscreen also isn't working yet. of course the other functions also don't work yet, but iam on a good way
cheers
EDIT: btw, thanks manoo2, your idea using a Arc S ROM was a great one

Awesome! I hope you have a lot of experience with linux kernels and programming in C. Otherwise this will be a complete nightmare -_- .
Good luck!
I think moving that thread to the 'Galaxy S Plus I9001 Android Development' category will be a good idea.
frostbite88 good to see u are making some progress u might want to use some of the gingerbread drivers for the touchscreen and other basic stuff like cellular radio i think that might just work https://opensource.samsung.com/index.jsp;jsessionid=E3B32E698F4D167D4AADE52041540CE9
