Really? Any source for this I can read?
This has kind of put me off rooting it. The first phone ive heard of that rooting it causes to break some standard functionality.

This is dependent on which kernel you flash. In @emdroidle 's thread about root coming for the H990DS there's a bunch of different ones with various fixes. I'm personally using the Jahlex v0.2d and video works fine, as does camera focus.

LG G5 H831 Root?

Hi guys,
just bought my H831 tonight, and I'm wondering about rooting/ custom roms, and if it is a thing for this model yet. I tried to follow LG's bootloader unlock process, but i keep coming up with no adb devices, and no matter what drivers i try, i can't get it to show up, if anyone has suggestions, please let me know. As for the rest, anyone have good suggestions for custom roms? just got into the scene with this phone and I have no idea whats happening.
Thanks

There is no root or bootloader unlock for h831, the official unlock method is available only for european h850s, tot method with root and twrp si only available for H830.
Welp. As always, before buying a device, check if there's root or roms available, not after.

Do you know is a root is being worked on/coming reasonably soon? or would it be better to just sell the phone?

Nobody knows nothing, atm there are no dev that are working on obtaining root on other models afaik
Well ****, I miss root, but SafetyNet's been a major pain in the ass as of late, so now my h831 stays stock. Better than an iphone though.

Does anyone know to unroot it and go back to stock?

My speaker got broken. I need to send phone for replacement. Im not lucky one
thank you so much for help
Find the stock tot for your model and flash it-that should return you to stock unrooted.

No harm,no foul,we've all done similar on at least one occasion.
You're a good man for offering to help ! :good:
Any help with that?
I am also awaiting an answer.
My last 2 Samsung phones had issues and I needed to Odin back to stock for warranty exchange at T-Mobile.
So I'm holding off on rooting till we have something of the sort for the v20.
Using Odin to flash my s7e back to stock while having severe screen issues saved my butt.
I'm on JoD for reference, and needed to switch phones at a brick and mortar.
Side note : loving the blooming development for this device.
Thanks for that, all parties concerned.

Nice people gave me an answer: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=69824782&postcount=1007
Sound very complicated for newbie. Anyone can try it?
I made an easy to understand guide to do just this.

Does this unroot method work for the sprint variant? I am stock unrooted on the build the phone came out of the box with, and waiting until rooting isn't a one-way street to take the plunge. If it does, are you 100% certain that it had been used in sprint v20s successfully?
That thread specifically says H918. So no.

You are in the exact same position as me. I'm excited that we have an unlocked bootloader and root for the Sprint variant, but I have no desire to do anything until there's an established procedure to unroot and revert back to stock.

Here's hoping it's taken care of. Sprint didn't used to be such a **** when it came to bootloaders. Anyways, I appreciate all the hard work the devs have been doing. Can't wait until I get the chance to experience it. With a stable 200mhz overclock, there's no functional difference between the snapdragon 820 and the snapdragon 821.
Do any of the posted methods work to restore the VS995 variant to stock?
I really want to go ahead and root it (and yes, have disabled updates so still run 12A since I knew VZW was going to be evil and patch it) but I'm very hesitant to do so without a way to restore to stock. Is it one of those things that's just a matter of time, or is there a substantial likelihood it may never be possible?

Do not attempt to downgrade ZVC!!!!!!

In Big red letters....
Do not attempt to downgrade ZVC or brick will occur...
And there is no fix until a ZVC kdz or tot is released...
HERE is what is downgradeable
1. ZVC cannot be downgraded....
2. ZVB can be downgraded to ZV8 no lower..... Or hard brick will occur.
3. ZV7 or lower is unknown by me If anyone else knows let me know and I will change this.....
So please for your own goods do not attempt this. for any reason be it gsm unlock or trying to root . It is all out the door for now no methods available.
And so everyone knows there is no hard brick fix available for the sprint or verizon lg g5s at this time......
So a nice new shiny paper weight.....
Hi, thank you for the warning.
Updated to ZVC, lost GMS too.
I kinda bought my G5 alredy unlocked, thought it was officialy unlocked.
Is it possible? or there is no official unlock from Sprint for G5?
I mean, is there's a point contacting Spirnt support about it?
And one more question, after update would it work with any other CDMA carrier (not sprint)?
Thank you.

It may but prob not work on any other carrier. Sprint is about worthless unless u have it on a active good standing account

what i should do to get down to ZVB
Will the my device be auto updated or do I have actually press on the update button for it to update?

Nothing lg has raised the antirollback value by 1 so zvb is -1 so as of now you will never be able to go back if you try you will brick until a zvc .tot is released....

Some dev options have option to untick auto update. Its been real flakey some people have others no....
Would the only option be to buy another phone? Or do you think that there will be some other way to GSM unlock the G5 in the future?

Hello from 2019, if u know, now can i downgrade ZVF TO ZV8? ..

Any Successful Root out there for LG V20 Sprint LS 997ZV7 :)

Hello folks
I never used Android without root but looks like NO NO for this device.
Is there a root out there for this LG phone ? LG V20 LS997 ZV7 which I assume is version 7. I tried some auto root software but no luck. Looks like LG is not popular here. Phone is not bad but if I can root it .
Thanks in Advance for responding.
No root yet. There are some people still working on it.
Also the g5 and g6 forums are also working on it as far as i've been able to find though search.

loopytee: how did you do it??
If you do a search, there is a thread on how to use the VS995 KDZ to roll back, and then flash the Sprint firmware back on the phone after you are rooted....
Remember folks search is your friend.
EDIT: In the search bar on the left I typed in "ZV7 root" and the first hit was: https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/root-ls997-to-zv9-t3696488

Just purchased an H918 10k - should I take OTA update?

Is there anything I should know in particular to 10k? It sounds like rooting isn't enabled unless i downgrade to another firmware version (is it even possible?).

Yeah don't update. You need to downgrade which is possible.

Same thing with me. Recieved h918 with 10k. Downgraded to j, unlocked bootloader, flashed twrp and custom rom.
Is there a specific page you'd suggest for me to follow our search term? Sorry I'm very new to this and thanks.

Find the post with LGUp (restore even for bricked devices) and follow the instructions to downgrade. There are also some youtube videos which are very helpful, in order to downgrade or after, unlock bootloader and so on..
