Just unlock bootloader, flash twrp, flash elemental x, and finally flash magisk. That post looks sketchy

Why Magisk? SuperSU gives you root without all of the extra baggage Magisk brings with it. I know, that's my opinion but just sayin'.

Not a problem for me since I don't install or use apps that cause issues with safetynet nor do I use snapchat. So therefore I don't need magisk and all of its bloat.

What bloat does magisk come with? I'm confused, all it is, is systemless root and ability to hide root from other apps. As well as a place to download modules but that's not required unless you want to.

Maybe you do not use apps that use safetynet feature, but I guarantee you OP does.

If I don't care about systemless, which SuperSU for Marshmallow?

I don't have any need for systemless root, but in reading the SuperSU threads, several versions are not working right with Marshmallow. Problem is, it is unclear which versions or if its the systemless part that is broken on marshmallow or the normal SuperSU or whatever else. So I was wondering, if I just want to flash normal SuperSU, what version (and a link if possible) is working with Marshmallow?
If its relevant, XT1575 64GB currently trying to get TruPure 2.2 working but having a lot of problems with Xprivacy and boot loops.
Thanks!
Both work fine for me
if you are not systemless, beta 2.64 works just fine http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64161125&postcount=3
Thanks Naddict! I just flash it in TWRP like always?
i am using truepurex 2.1 as i dont care for Android pay and i didnt update further because there is no need.
no boot loops. didnt wipe just updated over 5.1 and xposed working too

Hey i am also confused by reading so many different threads. I just want to know which version works with MM.
Currently i am on stock L (rooted+xposed) on my xt1572 indian retasia_ds.
I am gonna flash ota then flash the latest twrp by hashbang and then boot in twrp and if TWRP asks to keep /system read-only, i'll keep read only. And then will flash supersu and xposed cause i guess now there is no need to flash modified boot.img
So i am really confused which supersu to flash, some say 2.62-3 is working and some say it's not. So should i flash 2.62-3 or 2.64
Also please confirm there is no need to flash modified boot_img
sorry asking so many question because i want to avoid flashing firmware for which i have to wipe the device completely

if you use 2.62 or higher you do not need to flash anything other than that. No boot.img file or anything else. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64161125

I followed the instructions on that post, keeping TWRP read only and flashing the 2.64 zip and now a ton of system processes are crashing and my sim isn't recognized. Is there a more stable version for the X Pure? This is a fresh MM install, so it shouldn't be conflicting with anything.

Did you wipe caches? Which ROM did you install? Did you ignore the "install su" while in twrp?
Same for me, after stock MM upgrade, I installed latest supersu beta 2.64, also did wipe both caches, after rebooting there was ton of services just FC's.

Your post states you upgraded, so I assume you did not flash a complete ROM? If not, why not try that?

I am using XT1572, so there is not a lot of custom ROMS out there, so I am on STOCK MM. Now I am looking for supersu version that boots, 2.64 just do a lot of FC, 2.62.3 / 2.62 goes into bootloop.

just to confirm that the guide posted it's ok to do everything ...
unroot it's not a good idea, better to start from a unrooted and clean rom ...
I tryed the magisk method with ROM Opteron B574 and everything whent OK. Altough, when i deactivate root and try to launch the game, the same stupid message appears. I will mention that i did not do a clean install, just removed the root with supersu app from the ROM that i have been using for weeks, installed magisk, xposed and some other stuff, and nothing.
Is this maybe because I did not do a clean install? Either way, unless a new rom is out, I will not do it just for this game that promised so much and is proving to be developed by some greedy stupid company.

Thank you @Suleiman01.
But i managed to get it working by reinstall everything from zero.
Installed ROM Opteron from HTCMania from zero, then applyed magisk and now everything is working ok. I even installed the beta kernel ESAL.

He was able to root DP2. I don't expect much will have changed in DP3 but we'll have to wait and see.

Can the OTA image be sideloaded over 7.1.2 from June?
SuperSU v2.82 SR1 works on O DP3 for Pixels.
Dp3 runs smooth but android added even more permanent notifications to take up space

Chainfire has posted flashing instructions for Pixel / Pixel XL.
I don't particularly care about root, but I do want to pass SafetyNet so I can use Android Pay. My Pixel came from Verizon, so I'm kinda stuck with the unlocked bootloader (if I lock it, there's no going back...)
Does anyone know of a kernel that has the SafetyNet mod and works on DP3?

I have had a similar issue with this ROM. Even using hide root and all the possible setting combinations SnapChat is unable to work due to SafetyNet failing. Even if the phone's root is removed.

You could try kingroot look it up.
I can't see why magisk is doing that must be something to do with the security patch.
And you tried latest magisk 17.1?

I have tried this too
only the supersu app indicates that there is no root
if I start a root app it also does not give root
according to twrp the zip is well installed
he unpacks the kernel executes hex paches indicates that everything is okay and restart the phone then there is no root
have now practically tried almost everything I can think of
helios kernel works and magisk 17.1 works too
even I only experience a lot of problems with my phone on that kernel knowing that it is not for everyday use

I had the exact same problem, for now I use HeliosPro just to use my sim. It gives a nice performance boost, that I don't really need that much, so it just burns through my battery faster than stock kernel, even on battery-saving governor.
