Yeah I love it. Double tap power button and voila.

The camera launches very quickly with a double tap of the power button and the time between shots is very good too. Love this camera.
If some police brutality starts going down in front of you, you'll be recording before the cop can draw his gun (yes, that quick!).

Maybe one of you guys who already has a Note 8 can help me... I have a S7 but I have some complain about its pictures.
For example, I have never took a photo of my child which her hands aren't blurred because of the movements. In my past iPhone 6+ this kind of stuff didn't happen.
What about the Note 8 camera performance in this kind of situation?

Depends on the light and the light gathering power of the lens. In bright light the shutter speed is quite short and blurring should not be a problem. In dim light with a "slow" lens the chance of blurring is higher. Note 8 has an f/1.7 lens which is very fast. This is also the f/# of the S7. At some point it may be dim enough that there will be unavoidable blurring because the shutter speed has been adjusted to collect enough light. You can try to adjust the ISO to make the shutter faster, but there may be some image "noise" speckles.

The speed from pocket to shooting is lightning fast! Very pleased with it

I am amaze at how fast the camera app launches on the Note 8.

Coming from Xperia series (my last one was XZ) and I'm really impressed by the speed that camera launches on Note 8. If it had dedicated camera button like Xperia phones, it would be perfect.

Nova launcher/double tap screen/open camera.

If you have a rooted phone you could edit the keylayout, I did this and now my Bixby button is my camera button.
Here are the steps and other options:
1. Download and install*Root Explorer*or equivalent app capable of exploring root directories.
2. Open the app and navigate to*/ > System > usr > keylayout.
3. Rename the Generic.kl file to Generic.txt.
4. Open the file you just renamed with a text editor.
5. Use the quick search function of the text editor to search for “703“. You should land on a line showing:
"input_fw Intelligent*Key*for Dream*key*703 Wake or WINK"
Now you can change WAKE or WINK, to the next words for the next actions:
VOLUME_DOWN– Sets volume down
VOLUME_UP– Sets volume up
HOME– Home button
POWER– Power menu
MUSIC– Starts your favorite music player
CAMERA– Starts camera app
APP_SWITCH– Recent apps button
VOICE_ASSIST-Google Assistant
6. Rename Generic.txt back to Generic.kl. If you skip this step, you won’t be able to use the hardware buttons after the restart.
7. Make sure that you have the appropriate permissions.
8. Restart your device and see if it’s working.

Not happy with the speed of clicking shots, especially when it is in "live focus" mode. It takes awful lot of time clicking between different shots, and most of the time it gets blurred or the specific moment i want to capture is missed due to the lag between shots. sometimes i keep tapping the button to take a shot, and it hardly responds. Device also starts heating up a lot after few mins of keeping the camera open.

Compared to my last few phones (Note 3, ZTE Axon 7, Essential Ph-1), the Note 8 (SM-N950f Exynos) camera is amazingly faster to launch. I installed the the bxactions app and assigned the Bixby button to open the camera, and it is terrific. Shots are taken very quickly compared to my previous phones, and HDR is processed MUCH more quickly. Camera records video straight to SD card with no issues. The only problem is the 10 minute limit on 4k video, which is an arbitrary and unreasonable software limitation of the Samsung camera app.

Slow camera performance?

Just wanting to touch base with other people who have the U11 to see if other people have this experience. The camera is good overall but there is one critical flaw that's driving me crazy. When I push the button to take a photo, the phone will hang for a noticable moment before actually taking a photo. The last two phones I had (the S8 and the Pixel) were blazing fast in this regard. The instant as you hit the shutter button the phone took the photo. Seeing the U11 hang for a half a beat between me pushing the shutter button and the phone actually taking a photo is weirdly maddening. And if I'm in a low light situation, the pause is much longer - something like a second and a half between me pushing the button and the picture actually being taken.
FWIW, I'm not using edge sense to launch the camera or take the pictures - just the touch screen.

Thanks for the quick response. I've tried it with HDR off, on the auto setting, and with it full on. It doesn't seem to make any difference. Even with the HDR fully off, in bright outdoor conditions, with the screen solidly holding focus - I still get a half a beat pause between pushing the button and the picture getting taken. That's in ideal conditions. I'm trying to figure out if that's just how this phone is, or if maybe if mine is behaving differently than it should.
Yes the camera shutter does lag in low light and has been reported in some reviews. Overall I think it's a very good camera but i do question the DXO ranking.

No lag in launch and shutter at all.
takes 1 second from lock screen to camera then to take a picture. Its fast
It's pretty bad according to my experience. A lot of digital noise that I don't take photos as often anymore. and what's sad is it's all on the software end

For me it's really bad... Sometimes takes 2 seconds to open camera and then the camera viewfinder needs 2 more seconds to load.
It's pretty darn fast, whether to load or to shoot, click and done.
For me is pretty fast, test:
1. Reboot phone and wait for auto screen off
2. Double press Power button
3. Capture photo using VolUp key
Time needed between 2 and 3 is only 1sec
not so fast for me after the latest V2.2 update

I'm using these steps too and it takes hardly 2 seconds. I stopped at 1.91 seconds.

Time to take picture (camera launch speed)

i'm getting agitated that LG hasn't released an update to fix some of these bugs, yet. camera app is really slow to start sometimes. hangs up really badly when switching to night mode. many apps are slow to launch in this way, but camera is the most disruptive. get your $#!% together LG. i paid a lot of money for this device.
My issue was once I took a photo, I had to wait for it to save. Like if I snap and then exit the camera, it doesn't save the photo.
Double click the power button could be faster, I don't own a Samsung but I know my friend's S7 is better to grab that quick snap than my LG G7 from the lockscreen/screen off. Launching the app and switching between front, back, and wide is not bad. It isn't instant but quick enough where it isn't awkward. The low light auto switching causes mini freezes which is why I turned it off.
Camera lag is bad and wait to save to storage is bad too. For this device, it should save MUCH faster particularly to built in storage. My S9+ saves MUCH faster and it's pointing to a 256GB microSD card to boot. Not impressed.
As above camera is slow to launch, frustratingly slow to take pictures, and also as above sometimes the picture doesn't save after taking a shot and exiting the camera. Again as above very disappointed as I paid alot for this phone.....

Camera user experience is garbage. Very slow to launch and be ready to take the first snap, when you press the shutter, slow to react, then switching back and forth between normal angle to wide angle is about 2-3x slower than the previous phones like G6, G5... It's baffling why the switching is so slow. Bad implementation all around. LG, c'mon, step it up!

Camera issues with shutter lag, inconsistent HDR, etc

Hello everyone!
I have the Verizon S10+, March security patch. I just wanted to compare my camera experience with other people.
So I came onto the Galaxy S10+ from the Pixel 3, and some of the differences in the camera have stuck out to me. The first one is the shutter lag. Quick note - I'm not talking about shutter speed or exposure time or anything like that. I mean the difference between hitting the capture button and the phone actually taking a photo. On the Pixel, it snaps the picture the instant my finger hits the button. With my S10+, I tap the button, and it waits for half a beat before actually taking the picture. How long seems to depend on the lighting conditions. If I'm in a well lit situation, it's maybe a quarter second. But if I'm in less than ideal lighting, it's sometimes a pause of a full second between me hitting the shutter button and the camera actually taking the picture. This also causes the camera to fail to respond if I'm trying to take pictures in rapid fire. With my Pixel, I can hit the shutter button ten times in rapid fire, and it takes ten pictures every time. With my Samsung, in ideal lighting, doing the same thing will yield maybe five or six pictures, and if the lighting isn't good, it might only take two pictures. Is this just how the phone is? Or is there maybe something wrong with mine?
I've also noticed that whatever option you've selected for HDR seems to have no impact on how the phone actually takes pictures. I can turn HDR off completely, and it will still process HDR. I'll take the picture, then quickly tap on the link to the gallery and the picture will open and show the spinning circle as it processes for a couple of seconds and the HDR takes effect. Other times I'll have HDR set to always apply, but then it still doesn't use HDR and all the highlights will be blown out. With Live Focus, HDR usually doesn't engage. But 20% of the time, it does - I'll take a couple of Live Focus shots back to back, and in one of them all the highlights will be blown out but in the other, the HDR processing seems to have kicked in. Is there any rhyme or reason to the HDR? Do your choices in the settings menu actually make any difference, or is Samsung just trying to trick us into thinking we have a choice?
I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts and experiences!
The pixel cam is definitely more responsive, part of which may be due to the fixed focus lens but I don't know for sure. I can say that holding the shutter on S10 takes burst photos much faster than OnePlus 6t, for what that's worth.
As for the hdr, nothing to add.. but I agree it's confusing

Exact trouble here. My s7 makes photos so much faster
Hi all, I know this is an old thread but I just got the S10+ coming from a S8+ and I am having the same issue.
I am really frustrated with the lag after hitting the capture button and actually taking a photo. On the S8+ the shutter was super snappy, I could take multiple photos in succession without issues, but with the S10+ the lag is so bad I can only take a couple of photos even though I press the shutter button multiple times. I'm on the Snapdragon version with the latest Android 10 and One UI 2.1 update.
Did anyone find a solution to this?
The HDR issue drives me crazy. HDR applied to almost all the pictures EVEN IF IT IS TURNED OFF. Very frustrating. It seemed it solved finally after june update but the issue came back with the july update. I can't say for sure the last update is the main culprit but the issue came back after its install. I'd like to decide wether i want to use HDR or not but there's another thread on Samsung forum with the same topic dated back to the phone's release. There is no real chance it will be solved ever i think. :-\

It's pretty good!
I think the camera speed is average. Don't get me wrong - I love the OnePlus 7 Pro's camera('s), but there are some things related to the camera speed which aren't on par with other phones (flagships). The stock camera app takes about 1 - 1.5 seconds to open, which is not bad at all and is not my problem. The only issue I have is with the shutter speed: it takes just a 'millisecond' more to 'click' than I'd like it to. This doesn't stop me from taking photographs of high quality, but I have noticed that when I'm taking a selfie and I can't hold it still enough, it just has this annoying blur. Not too much to absolutely ruin, the picture, but it's there and noticeable. That being said, I wouldn't want to get another phone at all - I love it and the camera's on it, and the blur can absolutely be avoided by just not moving at all, even though that is hard to do and some phones do a better job of avoiding it.
I'm happy with the speed. I use the double press power button feature and the camera is open very fast.

I've noticed this on the stock camera app, Gcam works way better in this situation though, so it's a software issue
