Discussion on the Broadpwn exploit - Sprint LG G5 Guides, News, & Discussion

now from what I read and think is basically with the rite app this can gain elevated privileges
which i think the zvb update blocks this.
but from understanding and rumors this may be the next root method for 7.0 and below without lgs july updates
what are other peoples thought and readings about this say to them?

Might someone look for that

This vulnerability is way more dangerous than that. It has the potential to allow an attacker to infect a vulnerable device over Wi-Fi and without user intervention - and to make every infected device spread the infection to many more vulnerable devices. This should be patched ASAP.
Frankly, it's scary how many devices are no longer supported by the manufacturer and thus vulnerable.

Surprisingly, my old Galaxy S4 just got a security update a few days ago.

Screen mirroring - mhl - custom ROM?

Long time waiting for a solution to mirror wp screen to pc/tv/projector. It Seems that currently there is no solution for wp (although we have seen it in Microsoft' presentations, and people from Microsoft have told us that due to Security reasons it can only be done with a device with an especial rom with that implemented).
Perhaps now that ativ s have been unlocked, it could be done. Any ideas?

I don't think its due to security reason but rather patent issues..
Anyway, it doesn't matter the reasons, the fact is that there is NO way to make a live presentation with your Phone, isn't it? Brrrr

Sad but true.
The current state of hacking is interop-unlock.
If anybody can hack the bootloader and custom roms are available maybe this feature can be enabled.
Wasn't the issue to do with drivers. I'm still not sure we can fiddle at that level

if some one can make this true

Turbo Bootloader Update

Now that we have root, the next step is having the bootloader unlocked, right? Well here is an app to keep track of just that. It may look a bit familiar to some of you...
Are you stuck at work and want to know if we have bootloader unlock? Are you away from a computer? Did you just kill a man and you can hear the sirens in the distance.. knowing they are coming to get you.. and need to know before you're canned.. "do we have bootloader unlock?" Then this is the app for you.
I decided to change up the root checker app to the bootloader checker to keep hope alive. There are still some working on it. Furthermore, there is a latest news section so that you can get a little more information than a yes or no. I also specifically chose to put this in the Droid Turbo General forum because it's mostly informational. Not much Turbo Related development going on here. Check it out!
Initially, I was messing around with Google's new Material Design standards I decided to throw this together. I then was messing around with parsing json in lua with Corona's SDK and decided to modify the original app. It'll be updated the moment the bootloader has been unlocked.
For those of you who aren't aware:
ROOT IS HERE! Go get it! Tutorial is here. Post is here.
Nice work man, lets hope this app is only useful for a few days just like with the root version!

[FTV2] Fire TV 2 is vulnerable to stagefright exploits

Tested on version: 521044920
According to Stagefright Detector 5:

Can it lead to root for FTV2? Not sure, but I intend to find out sometime soon.
Would somebody please post scan results for current software version?
I'm surprised Amazon hasn't patched this. It got onto the previous one long before Google. Is this a legitimate concern for playing media on Kodi?

If you can find one instance where stagefright led to root, then please share!
The libutils one is supposed to be root. You haven't heard much about it because it's been lumped in with all the others.
edit: and thanks AFTVnews.com!
firetv 1 is still vulnerable to stagefright 2.0 according to stagefright scanner from zimperium

MXPE MM6.0 Multi-Window - Does it have it?

I'm still on 5.1.1 and I used Multi-Window on my old Note devices daily for work. I found a temporary workaround (although it's still a MAJOR hassle without it) and this is the Android M feature I've been dying for. Pleeease, please please tell me it made it into the final release for this device. Did it?

Out of the box, no...But supposedly this is a way to enable it. Someone would have to try that out and report back I guess.

Yeah, I installed 6.0, and tried it out. It works... kind of. It's more incomplete than I had hoped and won't work for my purposes. oh well.
If you have root you can enable it easy with a root explore.

hmm... that would still make the Note 5 the king of phablets...
it kinda sucks tbh. can't resize. and it gets confusing as to how to get two apps to go together. it's weird. samsungs kills ot.

System Storage

I am kind of lost trying to figure out how a stock Android device could be using nearly 16gb of storage for the OS. Does everyone else have this same amount of storage used up for the OS? Am I the only one who thinks this is insanely high?

Same here also. Not sure what's so high about it.

That is correct according to the arstechnica review.
"Essential has been reliably providing monthly security updates for Android, and these updates are extremely easy to apply thanks to Essential's support of Android's optional A/B update system. The Essential Phone ships with two system images, allowing an OS upgrade to be performed in the background on one system partition while the other one is used for running the phone. "
