Factory resetting a locked S8 - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Need to help out my tech illiterate grandfather with his S8. A number of events led up to this question.
As of now, I do not know if he has enabled the feature which requires him to enter a pin before powering down the device. I will not find out until I reach my grandparents' house in few days, by which time I'd like to be prepared with all the possible solutions.
As of now, the phone is not connected to the internet and my grandfather has been locked out of the phone(no fingerprint/pin available)
To my knowledge, to access recovery mode, one needs to hold down Bixby + Vol Up + Power button. Correct me if I am wrong. These are my questions.
1. Is the feature which requires the pin/pattern to be entered before powering down the device a feature that is enabled by default, or one that must be manually enabled?
2. Does restarting the phone require a pin from the power menu require the pin/pattern?
3. Can I enter recovery mode through the restart option in the power menu? That is, during the restart cycle, after the device has powered down, can I hold down Bixby+VolUp+Power immediately to enter the recovery?
4. How do I perform a hard reboot on the device? Power button + volume buttons for 20-30 seconds?
5. During a hard reboot, after the device has powered down, can I enter the bootloader by immediately holding down Bixby+VolUp+Power?
6. Are there any other methods to factory reset the phone which do not require unlocking the phone and connecting to the internet?
Thanks

Galaxy Tab E (SM-T560NU and maybe others) Tips and Tricks

This is just a collection of tricks I have learned since owning my SM-T560NU:
Force Shutdown
While not recommended, there may be times in which you need to forcefully shutdown your tablet, such as a bad OS crash, or a bootloop. Most devices allow you to do this by just holding the power button. However I have found with my SM-T560NU, you must hold Power + Volume Down for about 5-7 seconds to trigger the force shutdown. Actually, this reboots it, which leads me into the next tip.
Recovery Mode
It is a common misconception that you need to hold Power while entering recovery mode or download mode. This is not the case. The actual keys for recovery are just Volume Up+Home. To try it yourself, tell your tablet to reboot normally from the OS, then hold these keys. You'll see it boots recovery, without needing to press power at all! The trick is to be holding the buttons when the bootloader boots. The power key is not needed at all unless the device is completely off.
Download Mode
Same as above, but Volume Down+Home.
Unlock Bootloader
If you are here on XDA, you are likely interested in customizing your tablet with a custom ROM, Kernel, or recovery. But it is important to remember to unlock the bootloader before attempting any customization. You can do this by enabling developer mode in Android (go to Settings, About, and tap the Build Number 8 times). Once enabled, go to the developer options (near About on the main settings) and near the top there will be an option to unlock the bootloader. This only needs to be done once. If you install a custom ROM or factory reset (via custom recovery), the "Unlock Bootloader" option may revert to "off", you do not need to enable it again. If you factory reset while still on the stock ROM, you may have to re-enable it, as Samsung's recovery may re-enable the bootloader lock. This is untested.

[GUIDE] Booting your OnePlus X with a broken power button

Got a broken power button and need to turn on your OnePlus X?
As long as one of your volume buttons and your microUSB port still work, you're lucky.
If the volume down button is working:
1. Press and hold the volume down button.
2. Connect to a USB power source.
3. The phone should vibrate and boot into the recovery. You can release the volume button at that point.
4. If you have the stock OnePlus recovery installed just tap "English", "Exit" (if present), then "Reboot".
5. Your phone should now boot up!
If only the volume up button is working, things get a bit tricky.
Before you start, read through all of the steps and the paragraph below to make sure this goes as smooth as possible.
1. Connect your device to a USB power source without pressing any button.
2. Wait for about half a second, then press and hold the volume up button.
3. If you've hit the right moment, your device will boot to fastboot mode.
4. Connect to a PC and run the command "fastboot reboot".
(If you don't know what fastboot is or you haven't set it up yet you should be able to find plenty of guides online.)
A word of caution on finding the right moment to hit the volume button:
Start with longer delays and work from there. If you hit the volume up button too early the phone will enter EDL mode, which can be hard or annoying to get out of. EDL is Qualcomm's low-level Emergency Download Mode which allows flashing the device.
When entering EDL mode the phone won't vibrate and the screen will stay off. The phone remains in EDL mode after disconnecting the USB plug.
Normally you could press and hold the power button until a hard reset to get out of there, but in this case you have the following options:
- Unplug the battery to power down the device completely if your device happens to be open.
- Wait? For as long as it takes for your device to reset from this mode on its own or for the battery to run out. idk, good luck.
- Use an EDL mode flashing tool on a PC to send the power reset command to your device. This could be viable if you have already used such a tool before, e.g. by following the "Mega UnBrick Guide" by Naman Bhalla. Alternatively you could dive into this cross platform command-line tool, which works on WIndows, Linux and macOS. Using this approach is a bit overkill and quite the tangent from what you're actually trying to do, but being able to make use of EDL can come in handy in other situations as well when you're tinkering with your Android device so taking that detour might just be worth the time.
Awesome, it worked for me.
-Incase you have entered into EDL mode, then continue charging your mobile, it will be back to old state after sometime (12 hours maybe).
- To get fastboot mode, first insert power cable then wait for vibration/ screen light illumination after that press volume up button. if you press volume up button before inserting power cable, then it will go to EDL mode, so be careful about it.

Old Samsung Core Prime - Forgot PIN

First things first. This phone was never rooted, and USB Debug is not enabled. However, when I went into the phone's Recovery mode I noticed that both the Apply Update From ADB and Apply Update From External Storage are available. I'm wondering if, with either of these, I would be able to install something that will help me get my old phone back without having to do a full reset.
The only way you can remove the PIN is by erasing the entire device.
If the device has FRP enabled, i cannot help you with that. Search google for bypass methods.
First, power off the device.
After it has powered off, hold the home, volume up, anyd power button. You should boot to recovery.
Once you are in recovery, press the volume down button until you hover to "wipe data/factory reset" then select it using the power button.
Then hover to "yes" using the volume buttons and press the power button to select.
Once its erased, reboot your device, then set it up as usual.

S10+ does not accept password or restart or go into recovery mode

Okay, so all the sudden my S10+ ask me to add password rather finger print.
I use the correct password and it does not work.
Every time, after 20 tries, it ask to me add password after 30 seconds. I try to restart it ask password, I try to turn off it ask password. After 20 tries, it never asked for google account password.
I turned it off by (hold power and Vol down button) it auto restarts but the correct password still doesnot work. When I plug into charging, it turns off with hold Power + Vol down. Then again restarting phone does not unlock with correct password.
Then I tried to put it into recovery mode by ( Vol up + Bixby button + power OR Vol up + Bixby button after turning the phone off) it restarts the phone but does not put into recovery mode.
Any advice?
The phone is S10+ on Android 11 latest Samsung update. I am based in Australia if location matter in anyway for the phone.

Can't unlock bootloader

Hi,
I have trouble unlocking my A40. It's 2nd piece I own and the problem is the same.
When I follow the steps from this forum;
Go to Developer Settings and enable "OEM Unlock" option
Power off the device and boot in download mode
In download mode, you will see the long press and volume up option to unlock the bootloader
Unlock the bootloader. That will wipe your device so be sure you made a backup of your data
After bootloader unlock, boot up the phone and make sure it is connected to the internet or it will trigger rmm prenormal
Setup the phone without google account and others
Reboot in download mode and flash the recovery and vbmeta images
Boot to TWRP
Format data in TWRP
Flash the Multidisabler zip
Now you can reboot

I'm stuck at the 3rd point.
I don't see ANY instruction about Volume UP + Power in download mode. Nor FASTBOOT see my device to run actions with it.
What I see is only "Volume down key + power key for more than 7 secs Cancel (restart phone).
And holding Vol UP + Power doesn't do anything.
How to make this work?
Thanks.

You did enable OEM Unlock, correct?
Turn the device completely off, without any cables connected. Keep a USB cable ready that's plugged into your PC.
With the device powered off, hold both Volume buttons, and plug in the USB cable connected to your PC. Do not press Power. You should see a prompt on either a green or blue screen; select the option for Device Unlock Mode.
Finally.
Thank you for making me try for another time
