How do I root the L1? - Sony Xperia L1 Questions & Answers

Can't find anywhere a working guide?
Is it possible?

I would also very much like to know if there are any working root methods for the L1. I have the bootloader unlocked, but I'm not sure where else I can go from here.

You have to make kernel and TWRP for it.
You may try the latest Magisk (v14) and flash the output kernel
Unlocked bootloader and fastboot flash command required.

Just unlock your bootloader and flash a new ROM on your phone. Most of the ROMs available for our phone have that update or better already on the ROM.

Thanks, but I don't want to take the route of custom ROMs, sorry.
I had to unlock my bootloader first using RSDlite and the small .sbf file (pudding.rar) Click here to download
My bootloader was supposed to be already unlocked but I guess the updated firmware didn't realize it. I couldn't run fastboot flash without getting an error
I then rooted by flashing preinstall.img and running commands to install the superuser binary and .apk. Instructions here
I don't know of a way to root 4.5.141 without unlocking the bootloader first. If you find a way let me know

Same thing I used... different source. Still it requires an unlocked bootloader to flash images.
I believe the OP is looking for a root option that will work with a locked bootloader.

It's kind of a "Been there, done that" kind of thing from my Win Mob days. lol
I am pefectly happy with stock Atrix ROMs, and just want to be able to retain root or re root to use a couple of apps like Titanium Backup.
Has anyone with an unlocked bootloader/rooted Atrix tried the update?
I like to stick with the stock rom for now but I haven't found directions for updating to 141 yet. I'd like to keep root and not hard brick my Atrix...After the 2nd time Moto might get suspicious
I wasn't able to use the OTA updates once I rooted (even before I unlocked my bootloader). Of course, that could be Bell building in a check. I even tried unrooting (using GingerBreak) and that still wouldn't allow me to use an OTA update.
I would think you'll have to root, unlock bootloader, and then flash an firmware file from this tread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125944.
Actually, you're right in that the OTA update will probably fail without me going to a more "out of the box" state. I suppose I'd have to first create a nandroid, a titanium backup then flash my phone with a 4.5.91 stock image using fastboot, do the OTA, then re-root, and restore the titanium backup to get back to where I was. And if anything fails restore from my nandroid.
Does that sound right?
I've heard there could be issues relating to going back to a locked bootloader file. So I'm not sure on specifics there. I just run CyanogenMod to avoid all that stuff.

preinstall fastboot method works on a locked bootloader...at least it does for me (locked, rooted and on 141).

So...in fastboot mode, you were able to run fastboot flash preinstall preinstall.img and thus successfully create the "preinstall\" partition with the necessary files on your phone without getting an error message???
My bootloader was unlocked long ago but I still couldn't flash the preinstall partition without running the pudding unlock .sbf first. Idk
I wasn't even able to boot into fastboot without unlocking the bootloader first.

yep, followed all of the steps and every one is successful. I'm very risk-averse when it comes to messing with my phone, so I've never unlocked my phone. Only root.
I love how no one is answering your question just telling you to unlock your bootloader...
I downloaded the ota update, installed and got failed to boot 4 starting rsd node.. i had unlocked bootloader before update help please!! I pulled the battery for now.

Is there any way to get step by step instructions for this

boot loader unlock and root

please any body suggest me an easy way(any way) to unlock boot loader and root my device,my ultimate wish is to root my device to remove bloatware. I searched the entire forum for a way to root my device but there are lot of conflicting opinions some say unlocked boot loader is a must for root , some threads say root is required for unlocking the boot loader,i am confused ,please give some advice by witch i can ultimately root my device
my device- ZE550KL
OS - MARSHMALLOW 6.0.1
with locked boot loader and unrooted
2GB ram
I will be grateful to you and ill be glad
I don't know if you can get root if you are on MM without fully switching to CM13.
I think it's pretty "easy", it's depend from the person to person though
There's already thread to unlock BL (no relock atm), and getting root is simply flash supersu.zip
It's just my thoughts, I'm not saying you must do what I'm going to write down here, so I'm not responsible if anything happen
* You need, say TWRP, to get root, how to get TWRP? "flash" recovery right?
* flash custom img (recovery) only possible if BL unlocked, you got bootloop if still locked
* so what if we just boot to twrp? Leave that stock recovery? We don't need that unlocked BL right?
* then the problem come from supersu, default su installation on M+ come in "systemless" mode, which modifying the boot.img, as point 2 above, we can't have non-stock img flashed on locked BL
* so how about make supersu "system", it did work on L with locked BL anyway, it's not modifying any boot.img,
* you could got root w/o unlocking BL by booting twrp, and flash su in system mode
Personally I'm not able to test this, because I love breaking things :silly:

Relocking Bootloader

Is there a way to relock bootloader? I tried flashing stock rom via TWRP but the prompt still shows that Device cannot be trusted blalbla unlocked.
Can anyone give me a way how to relock my BL? I also tried SRK tool with relock bootloader with my Unlock code, but it doesnt work.
Thanks
EDIT: Please lock thread. I tried locking via eRecovery and it worked. Thanks
Update your device. Use the full update rom like b161, 201 or whatever you like. That will remove the unlocked bootloader and root as well.

Yes is tested: at any update (via dialer or three key pressed) with stock firmware, you lose root, twrp and unlocked bootloader (if you have root, twrp and bootloader unlocked).

Freshly bought Mi A1 - to OTA or not to OTA?

Hey guys,
want to mod my freshly bought Mi A1 to the max, but I'm not sure if i should OTA first or better start modding right away?
I already unlocked the bootloader and it didnt wipe it - it also has 7.1 installed still. Generally I'm usually reluctant to do official updates because they usually make modding harder - but I tried booting the treble TWRP installer .img through fastboot (without installing it) and it failed because some partition was missing it said.. so I just want to hear if OTA is necessary to use the latest custom roms or if i can keep the old bootloader etc?
Would be cool if someone who knows could say smth about that.
Or is updating through OTA actually recommended even when not planning to ever use stock roms?

If security matters for you yes
The only thing you'll share with a custom ROM is the bootloader
Since may update locking or relocking the bootloader will wipe your data
It's your choice
but it will still work as easy as before to unlock/lock with just a fastboot command, right?
and will a custom rom work with a locked bootloader? Like first unlock, install custom rom + kernel, then relock?

It will always be that easy to unlock and relock the bootloader
No don't relock on anything that is out of stock (custom kernel , magisk, custom ROM etc) this will lead to a softbrick and you'll have to be on edl more to reflash a stock rom
What's the interest of having a locked bootloader with a custom ROM? You won't pass the safety net anyway
Just keep it unlock
You can do ota with an unlocked bootloader

hahahaaa exactly the point
well once you have everything "perfectly set up" updates can ruin it. but yea relocking the bootloader really was a stupid idea - it was the idea to make it tamper proof but since custom kernels wont boot with locked bootloader that wouldnt work.

TWRP, Root, Xposed

My last android was a lollipop version and I guess there are a lot of changes and security "improvements".
On my Huawei P10 Lite (WAS-LX1 8.0.0.367 C02 / EMUI 8.0.0) I want to flash TWRP, root the stock ROM. I want also to use Xposed, but i'm afraid to not brick the phone, I also saw something regarding FRP, bootload unlock.
If it's not possible and you consider that it's more simple to install directly a custom rom, then which one?
Somebody can guide me?
For root or install a custom rom you will need unlock the bootloader and that requires an unlock code, you can get the code with DC Unlocker but it cost you some money.

First you need to use DC-Unlocker to get a bootloader code. It will cost you 4€. Then unlock your bootloader. Then install this TWRP. It works perfectly in stock EMUI 8, but in custom roms it doesn't even boot and also make sure to use "fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk" and not "fastboot flash recovery". Then flash the latest magisk. And for Xposed you'll have to use v90 beta 4 version on stock EMUI 8 otherwise you'll get a bootloop. And it's not for magisk, you'll have to flash it in TWRP.

Okay thanks,
So I decided their is an Universal Code(Key Gen.)for All Huawei/&other devices to generate an Unlock Code with the Imei Nummbers I think.
With the Right Knowing everyone could generate his Own Unlock Code.
