LG G6 connecting/mirroring to non smart TV? - LG G6 Questions and Answers

Hey all,
So the wife & I got 2 new G6's recently. We had G3 before & could use slimport (wired) to play video & stream through our phones & display on the tv. We have no wifi, phones are our only internet connection at the house. Our big screen is a few yrs old and came out just before "smart" tv's rolled out.
We used to plug in a slimport adapted to the phone & tv HDMI port, but apparently slimport is no longer compatible with the G6... Any tips/ideas/work arounds?

Get a wireless display adaptor. It uses mirrorcast.

i use beelink gt 1 android tv box and mirroring working perfect.

I have the exact same problem as deekman. The only internet access I have is through my LG G6. I do not have WiFi or any wireless capability. Am I able to connect my LG G6 to my TV? kabirjedi said that a beelink gt 1 Android TV box works. I'm a bit of a techno-illiterate. So could anyone explain, in detail, how it works? I am able to use my LG as a wifi hot spot but only get 15g of 4g data per month before Verizon slows my "unlimited" service to 600kb which is worthless.
Hope you can help.

LG LM640s TV and N4 WirelessDisplay

I recently bought the LG LM640s TV, which has a WiFi-Direct and Wireless Screenshare option. The N4 connects just fine, the TV shows a message saying "Android XYZ connected", but I can't get it to display my phones screen.
I'm on xylon #18, and besides the connection over wifi-direct, there's an option in "Settings -> Display ->" like this.
Tried checking "Skip HDCP negotiation", didn't work either. The TV received an update like a week ago, didn't help :/
As much as I love this phone, I sometimes get frustrated that the standards it's pushing aren't available or working as intended (wireless charging, wireless display), even with hardware from the same manufacturer.
Did anyone manage to get this working with a similar TV?
i got the 55LM670T and it doesnt work, but i checked it out and although on the tv it says wireless display, it does say miracast, which is what the N4 supports, so i dont think our tvs support the miracast standard

If it's not working with the N4 and/or miracast - what is it working with?

Screen-mirroring and Cast

I have recently purchased a LG Smart TV. It has all the bells and whistles like wifi , miracast etc etc. Is it possible for me to mirror my phone to the TV while playing games, and also cast my Cinemabox app to the TV (while watching shows). In simple words can i have same functionality of a Chromecast. The TV and phone will be connected to the same wifi router.
If it matters anyhow, the TV model is LG 55UF851T.

Noone has a solution??
Mirroring via the Miracast protocol doesn't require a wifi router, it's a direct wifi point to point connection.
The Chromecast can also work through a direct point to point wifi connection (guest mode).

My query is a bit different. Considering the TV has wi-di and miracast, isnt it possible to mirror the S7 screen to the TV. I need the same for casting my games etc. Is it possible to mirror a S7 screen to a LG Smart TV.
The answer is easy...
If any TV set supports Miracast the answer is yes.
However performance for games is a bit poor...

yes. it is possible. in fact, the function to mirror a smartphone screen to TV supporting Miracast has been there since at least Samsung S4.they have changed the name of the functionality a few times but the end result remained the same and different phone manufacturers have different name. Samsung called it Smart Connect now.

I have tested it, if you need to know and it works fine.
I have the same problem. With my Axon7 I can cast YT directly or the whole screen trough Settings/Screen/Cast but with the S7 Edge I can't find such option. Any step by step guide?

Turning an old LG G2 into an "Android TV"

My LG G2 has served a good life, first as a replacement phone, then as a backup phone (both for me and my mom), and now that I'm moving into an apartment, I wanted to put my old G2 to good use…by attempting to transform it into a smart TV box.
I have a 38" Vizio TV - regular HD, nothing smart about it - that doesn't receive IR signals anymore, but hey, it's a free TV. The side buttons still work, and I figured I could hook up an Android stick TV or box to it and make it a smart TV. Unfortunately, those things cost money, and the cheaper Android boxes seem questionable. Plus, trying my hand at a "self-made" "Android TV" could be fun.
This is both a how-to (in progress)/what worked for me/request for tips from the wise.
So far:
(1) Just ordered a Slimport* to HDMI cable and an HDMI to HDMI cable from Monoprice. (*Note that the G2 requires Slimport, a specific standard as opposed to MHL, to transfer data via microUSB to HDMI output)
(2) I've installed Kodi and some add-ons on the G2 and installed several video and music apps (YouTube, Google Play Music, etc).
(3) LG G2 is rooted and running CM13
(4) I have the Sleep Standby app on the G2 to allow it to function while the screen is off and mirror to the TV.
What I'm working on
Currently looking for a good app for my primary Android phone (not rooted) that can function as a remote to control the G2. I've also wondered about the possibility of a simple bluetooth remote that I can pair with the G2 (since multiple people will be using the TV).
Suggestions are welcome! I'll try to keep this post updated with my progress for those who are interested.

Are you looking for an app to control the phone or an app to control Kodi?

Watch DirecTV Now on TV via USB-C to HDMI adapter?

I've been unable to get DirecTV Now app to continue to run after connecting my PH-1 to a tv with any of several USB-C to HDMI adapters. After maybe 10 seconds the phone shuts the cell connection off and the app reports no network connection. Works fine with YouTube, though. Anybody had success connecting their phone & TV long enough to watch a show on DirecTV? If so, which adapter did you use?
It could be the app detecting a video output and cutting you off as a means of stopping piracy or some type of DRM.
Yeah, HDMI's locked down. Mirrorcast, too (video blacked ou). Still, people with Samsung Galaxy 8s report screen mirroring DirecTV Now. But Samsung hates us developers & I hate their bloatware. Love the fit & finish of this PH-1, and the specs, & the backstory. Got a couple of days before I have to decide whether to keep it or take it back. Ordered Samsung's USB-C to HDMI adapter, maybe it will work better than the others. Watching TV in a hotel or in your RV isn't piracy, 2nd screen should be fair use, right?
I agree 100%. Another one might work as you suggested. HDMI passes DRM information and that costs the manufacturer to license. It's entirely possible some cheaper adapters never licensed the DRM, which would block DRM content from being passed through.

Hey, so which HDMI dongles have you used with your phone? I'm still trying to figure out which one to buy.

Hi. With an LG V20 & an Essential PH-1, I couldn't get the "SlimPort USB-C to HDMI Adapter" to work. Nor did the "Cable Matters USB-C to HDMI 4K 60Hz Adapter" work.
I returned them and the LG V20. Not ready to give up on the Essential PH-1, I got a "Samsung USB-C to HDMI Adapter" and it works perfectly!
