Any way to activate Wi-Fi Calling if you have a rooted device? - OnePlus 5 Questions & Answers

I just got me new Oneplus 5 and my carrier supports wi-fi calling but only on a very restricted amount of Android devices like Galaxy S6/7/8 so no official support for Oneplus phones but is there any way to force the activation on the 5 with an app or something else if you have a rooted device?

Wow, that sucks if it's true. Do you know if it works on unlocked versions of these phones? If it doesn't, it could be something the carrier added.
Just to rule out the obvious... You need to manually enable WiFi calling on OP5. It's a toggle switch in the "SIM & network" section in the settings menu.
If that doesn't do it you might try editing /system/build.prop and changing ro.product.brand and ro.product.model to a known working model.

No setting option to enable it is there on the OnePlus 5 but same Sim in an S7 has the option to enable!
I will look at the build prop

Let me know if that works.. ?

Tried the build prop changes for an S6 and it still did not activate the required settings for wifi calling!
Surely there is a way to do this?

I'm hoping this too !

IMS dictates WiFi calling configuration. Hopefully you can spoof the device into thinking it's an approved one for your network?

I have the same issue on my networks in Canada. It's restricted to just a couple devices and when I did the build.prop edits I got the options but when I turn it on nothing happens as in Canada we need to accept a user agreement for it and that never comes up for me to activate it. So I either need to do that on an approved phone or live without it

What did you edit in the build prop file to get the options to show up?
If you could give the exact entries that you changed and to what then that would be very helpful.
Thanks

I have EE WiFi calling on me 1+5 and I'm rooted? The device deffo has if because you can get a VOWIFI status bar icon....
I think I enabled it on my sim prior to root though.... Dunno if that makes a difference as maybe registers again IMEI? I don't see why root would make a difference though

It is not root making a difference it is you would probably need root to enable you to activate something on the phone if your carrier is not supporting the OnePlus for wifi calling!

If your carrier won't support WiFi calling then you won't get it. Simple as that mate!
Edit: My carrier EE doesn't officially support the 1+5

Which carrier are you on?
Also try this

Some people have reported it enables wifi calling as well.
This is a lot more in depth so may not work and you may brick your phone. (may work on the one plus 5)

Ok we are getting closer so thank you!
I added the following from the first post you referenced to my build.prop:
#ifdef VENDOR_EDIT
persist.dbg.ims_volte_enable=1
persist.dbg.volte_avail_ovr=1
persist.dbg.vt_avail_ovr=1
persist.dbg.wfc_avail_ovr=1
#endif
Then this allowed the VolTE and WiFi Calling setting to show up and I can activate it but when I try to make a call it still seems to go out over Cellular network and no icon in the status bar to say that it is active etc.
This is the details of my carrier and wifi calling instructions etc.:
https://community.meteor.ie/device-help-187/everything-you-d-like-to-know-about-wifi-calling-218595
I did not try the second post as it seemed to be very specific to a couple of carriers so any other ideas?

I suspect there are some firmware files missing which it needs to use wifi calling, you could do an adb log cat to a file whilst making. a call (you have to be tethered to your pc) so you can post the logs here to see if anyone can help.

You could try using Hangouts as it uses wifi for calling etc

I'm on AT&T and I got my phone a few days before I actually switched to it. When I went through the settings without a sim inserted, I know I saw an option for wifi calling and enabled it. Now with the sim card in there, there is no trace of this option. I will be watching this thread now, as I've been pondering paying for a microclimate, but if this gets figured out, then I'm good to go.

Non Verizon Nexus 6 Verizon Users VOLTE

I did some extended research and also noticed there is nothing posted on here about this so I figured I post my results. This has been confirmed with two users that this method does work.
For anyone that is having issues not getting volte/HD calling to work here are the steps provided below:
Before you continue you have to make sure your line is provisioned to work with Volte/HD calling. Most of us bought the device away from Verizon. This wont provision it just by sticking the sim in (I have seen a few that have claim this). To provision your line you need to activate the HD calling on verizon account with a verizon compatable HD device (Droid Turbo, S5 ect) The link below provides compatable devices. This is only for Nexus 6 devices not bought from verizon.
http://www.verizonwireless.com/landingpages/advanced-calling-devices/
Stick the sim in one of these devices. Activate HD calling and make sure it works. Then Transfer the sim back over to the nexus 6 .
Dial *#*#4636#*#* and go to phone information and click to turn on volte provisioned flag. (if it wont let u turn on flash the bootloader/radio from here thanks to @scrosler for this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/development/bootloader-radio-boot-img-boot-loader-t3052425
Reboot twice and then go to settings more, cellular networks, switch preferred type to lte/cdma
and then tick the 4g lte mode. before u make a test call to confirm volte works turn wifi completely off and that ur on lte service.
Reboot and then ur good. You only have to do this one with the provisioning of another device. once the provision is done your account is good this day forward. Unless u get another sim card you will have to do this again.
Again this is only for non verizon nexus 6 users.
Please make sure ur on the 5.1 radio else this wont work.

I had a user @madAdam6LOVE who i helped with. We did the steps with out the extra device wouldnt work. We did this with his s5 and his volte works. I followed the other threads and none of them showed getting the sim provisioned. He had the s5 before the nexus 6 and never activated the volte. He activated it which provisioned and now it works flawlessly.

Is that the same outcome as running the bootloader command: fastboot oem config carrier vzw ?
CyanogenMod installer makes it clear this command is required, but doesn't go into more detail, and haven't seen it discussed much on this forum.

That i honestly do not know. After spending all day with one of the XDA who couldnt get it to work we did the method with take the sim and putting it in s5 activating and making sure volte works on that device and then putting the sim back into the nexus 6.

I have read the threads, and I called out a few that stated that they did it and later found out they activated the sim with another device.
Verizon even stated to activate the sim they have to do it with another device since it comes up as unsupported device.

I was able to log into the VZW account management site and activate advanced calling / VOLTE.;
My Account --> Manage Products & Apps --> Get Products --> Free Products --> Activate Advanced Calling.
Even though I activated my N6 after ordering from Motorola back in December, VZW did recognize that the N6 supported VOLTE. The N6 is using a sim activated through a G1 Moto X.

This option isn't displayed in my phone. Is this something that'll appear once I bring the SIM back into my phone after doing the steps above in a Verizon compatible phone? I'm on CM12.1-20150531-NIGHTLY-shamu and the closest thing I can find is: Settings>Wireless & networks>Mobile networks>Preferred network type: which lists options: LTE(recommended), 3G, 1x, and Global. Activate WiFi Calling/ Encryption, Honor 8 Nougat (No Root)

So I've always thought WiFi Calling was interesting and when I bought this phone I knew there was no WiFi calling. Here is a method to activate WiFi calling. not sure if it works though as I have international data plans + calling.
You do this at your own risk.
1. Download Nova Launcher from the Play store.
2. Once installed add the activities widget to whatever home screen you like.
3. A window will open. Scroll all the way down to settings open it.
4. From there start scrolling until you see WiFi Calling with WiFi Calling settings right under it and long press either of them.
5. Congrats you have made it to the WiFi calling screen all you do now is hit that switch!
Encryption-
1. Do the same up until number 3.
2. click on settings and scroll until you find Encrypt Phone.
3. Do a long click and a screen will pop up and it will say something like make sure you're at 80 percent with the charger plugged in...etc
NOTE- I have not tested this option so proceed with caution.
I'll put some screenshots for those who want to see it first.
This also works to get encryption surprisingly.
If this helps you make sure to hit Thanks!
I take no responsibility if you choose to do this and end up damaging your device. You do this at your own risk!

If the carrier supports WiFi calling then it should work. I'm not too sure. Give it a try and see if it works if it doesn't then you can just turn it off. It should also work on any model but I only have FRD-L14 to test it with.
Just curious, have you tried to use the default launcher after you enabled wifi-calling in Nova? Will this feature still work in that case? This sounds really interesting...

Turns out, this doesn't work on my phone (FRD-L04) with T-mobile. I followed your instructions to enable the Wifi-calling setting with Nova launcher and then restarted the phone to make sure everything resets as the setting defined. Then I put the phone in the Airplane mode with only wifi signal available. Called a number for a quick test, but it asked me to connect to a cellular signal or turn off the Airplane mode first. T-mobile should have the Wifi-calling enabled on their end, and I am using their prepaid plan right now. I guess the only reason why it didn't work is Huawei has other hidden settings disabled this function at the root (not sure on the software or hardware level, though).
Let me know if anyone can make it work truly. Thanks!

You can't use WiFi calling while in airplane mode as long as you have bars it should work.
Ex. Say you're in Mexico and you got WiFi then you turn on WiFi and you should technically be able to get calls like if you where in the US.

Gotcha. Your method is similar to what OnePlus One people did before, and yields similar result--not really working. I guess we have to wait for Huawei to implement some function in their future EMUI release. They claimed they had a plan for EMUI 5 but not in this release in reality. Seems Huawei people are not in a hurry, possibly because the Chinese market doesn't have the demand for wifi calling.

That's true. I kinda didn't expect much from it but it will most likely be coming in a future update anyways
Using FDR-L14 with TMobile and enabling the WiFi Calling doesn't seem to do anything here as well.
That said, I am super excited to see that Huawei/Honor working on this!!!!!
My understanding is that Wi-Fi calling functionality is a combination of the radio + kernel. It's why AOSP-based ROMs have never been able to get Wi-Fi calling or SMS working, they don't have the closed-source drivers needed to make it happen. So in essence enabling it via a Menu item is simply toggling a UI switch with no back-end code to actually make the calling work.

1.) I bought Honor 8 with Nougat
2.) Called my service provider Ultra Mobile (piggy backs on T-Mobile) to enable WIFI calling, they took my E911 address and enabled it.
3.) Installed Nova
4.) Turned the WIFI calling switch to ON
5.) It didnt work in Airplane mode, it didn't work when I have WIFI and no cell reception. Not able to make calls.
This was already discussed in another thread a few weeks ago and no it definitely does not work it's just a toggle switch in settings Wi-Fi calling is not enabled on this phone. I personally tested it on AT&T sim using wifi in my basement where I can't receive a signal and multiple people tested it on T-MOBILE.

I hope that I'm wrong but I'm about 100% sure that this will not work for AT&T. AT&T actually requires a Specialized or particular APK to work. In my previous phone Galaxy S7 Edge these apps were installed during flashing of the CSC
Does not work on Sprint Note 8.

These features will work out of the box on T-Mobile including WiFi Calling as long as you have the correct plan provisioned on your account.

Yup! ?
when i do the toggle provisioning in the self provisioning it keeps going back to disable, it wont stay enable. Any idea? Verizon, unlocked note 8
I wanted to add: For me, the Video calling option in settings wasnt there till a hard reboot. After that is exactly like the OP demo'd. Wish I had somebody to call to test lol.
Thanks OP.

I was on stock until root was made available and been on that.
I tried this, but when i go to IMS Information everything is false and can't be changed. It also doesn't have the VZW VoLTE registration information at the bottom of that screen like you have. I see the VZW VoLTE profile under "IMS Profile", but forcing a manual register doesn't seem to do anything

If it is false call carrier to have imei whitelisted and reprovisioned, say it's for connectivity issues...bought from Samsung...afterwards you can see it change to true....you may have to ##SCRTN# to provision on your end...you may just need to update profile and prl...
I wonder if this will get wifi calling once I root. The rooting process uses a method of mixing boot files and essentially makes it a U1 rom with a Verizon csc but wifi calling isn't available. I'm going to give this a go to see if it'll enable it. If anyone has tried let me know. Thanks to the OP for this one.

Interested to know if this fixes wifi calling, if so that's the only reason I haven't checked out root - I get 0 signal at work, and depend on wifi calling for my primary cell number. Google voice works over wifi of course!

When I make a call, it just shows up for a second and turns off. Does anyone have this issue?

Wifi Calling on PH-1

I have enabled Wifi Calling on my PH-1 and I know for a fact that my carrier supports it. It works fine too, but it's set to "Mobile Preferred". I chose this setting because my Wifi isn't too reliable. However, whenever I call, it uses Wifi even though I am getting LTE+? Is there any way to fix this?
Does anyone have any idea? I have looked all over the internet but have not found any solution? Could it possibly be my carrier?
When I try to enable wifi calling, my launcher crashes. So you are one step ahead of me

I'm not sure. I have seen 3 Sprint system apps though under "Apps and Notifications", but I don't know if that counts. I got it straight from Amazon, if that helps.

Not that I know of. I don't think they would look at your WiFi calling settings if sent out for repairs. Once you install Oreo open market firmware just relock the bootloader, setup your phone including TMobile WiFi calling settings. Once you update to Pie they shouldn't be able to tell anything because all different variants use the same firmware and your bootloader will be locked encase you send your phone out for repairs.
The other option is to use Google Voice. WiFi calling works great on it.

You do have to use your GV number. In my case it's irrelevant because I ported my number over to GV some time ago.

No, your carrier number will change. The port to GV takes approximately 24 hours. So you have to deal with a GV assigned number for a day. After that though you have your regular old number. I barely even know my new Verizon number as I don't give it to anybody. I figure this way, I'll never have to worry about WiFi calling or who my carrier is again.

I have the same issue. It was working fine on Oreo. I tried flash.all fastboot using the stock firmware without success. Let me know if you have a solution. Ty
Edit: I got it fixed by flashing flashall back to stock Oreo 8.1 open market from Essential website then let it updated OTA to Pie and my WiFi calling still working fine.
Updated 10/22
My WiFi stopped working again after I turned it off but I can't turn it back on just like before. Any time I tried to turn it on the phone app forced close.
Considering thanks to T-Mobile's wonderful coverage (says I have good signal strength, but it's not) I have Wi-Fi calling enabled all the time and it works well on the 5Ghz ac side of the router...not so well on the 2.4Ghz b/g which is fine. Again something carrier specific. I went to Pie and kept the WiFi calling running.

OnePlus 8 Pro & 5G Support in Canada

Hi All,
For those Canadians using either the OP8 or OP8 Pro, are you getting 5G with your carriers? I see that all the big three (Rogers/Bell/Telus) have launched 5G networks in various cities across Canada. I'm with Telus using the OP 8 Pro in Vancouver but cannot seem to get 5G downtown. According to Telus' map, I should have 5G coverage but the phone only shows 4G.
What variant of the OP8 do you own?, the only ones that work with North American 5G are the IN2015 and IN2025,
IN2020, 2021, and2023
and
IN2010, 2015, and 2013
All lack NA 5G bands

I've got the NA (IN2025) version which has B66 - Telus' 5G is deployed on that band.

It may not have the ENDCs for Telus n66, submit a bug report on OnePlus community and maybe they can add support in a future update:
https://forums.oneplus.com/feedback/?node_id=230
It also may just not be enabled in the band combos, follow this guide to see if you need to add them:
https://mt-tech.fi/en/modify-oneplus-7-pro-5g-8-and-8-pro-nr-lte-a-band-combos/
I'm in Surrey, close to Vancouver but I don't think close enough to be around 5G towers. Maybe I'll make a drive downtown to test but my bigger issue is trying to get VoWiFi to work with Telus!

Done. I have logged a bug report! It still sucks that 5G is not enabled out of the box. No 5G support out of the box, no dual SIM support for IN2025 model even now- I can understand the frustrations with the device.

You'll know if volte works if you get simultaneous voice and data, it'll also show a VoLTE icon in the status bar.
You can also try to force that on with this app:
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/onepl...ase/onepluslogkit-1-0-2-android-apk-download/
Install it, dial *#800#, enter logkit, Function Switch, tick volte and vowifi and then reboot.

I don't get any status bar icon but that may be because I have it turned off in settings.
I did go into the logkit (had to install the OnePlus 7 Pro version to see the settings) to turn on both VoWiFi and VoLTE.
On my previous Pixel device, I would see an icon saying "HD" next to the call duration and I see the same thing on this phone, which leads me to believe it is working. I can also tell by the call quality as well. I haven't noticed if I have simultaneous voice and data but I'll check that the next call I'm on.
As for VoWiFi, I think the function switch settings just show the toggles in settings but it doesn't do anything. Just ends up being a dummy switch.
I called Telus to activate/register the device IMS and the first rep had no idea what I was talking about. Second rep gave an indirect answer by saying "everything is fine on our end so your device may just be incompatible".
Strange because I called to register my Pixel's IMS and VoWiFi and VoLTE immediately worked afterwards. Maybe I just got lucky with a more knowledgeable rep back then.
I'm going to try and reach out to live chat support to see if they can provide any more answers because it would be nice to have both features working rather than just the one.
Hey, I have been unable to get it to work for me, I must have some mistake in my carrier policy edit. Would you be able to send me a copy of yours so I can compare?

I had to do the same but I also had to run QPST and change the profile to get it to work. I used to get the VOLTE icon but after the last firmware update, it seems to have disappeared. But I still get the HD icon when on calls, so I assume it is still working.
I'm kind of disappointed with OnePlus here - no VOLTE, 5G or dual-SIM working out of the box, even after three months of owning the device. For a US$1000 phone, this is pretty unacceptable. And having to muck around in the settings to get VoLTE or 5G working (and doing this on every firmware update) is not something I want to keep doing.

I think for VoLTE and 5G, all of the responsibility lies on OnePlus. The fact that these can be (temporarily)enabled manually after mucking around in the config files clearly points to OnePlus needing to do work to support this. Why advertise 5G and then create a blacklist for it?

Thanks for sharing! Will test it tonight and hopefully get 5G to work.
To your knowledge, will this get VoLTE also?
Bell is continuing to restrict 5g unless it is a phone they have sold
