How to get rid of rainbow effect on 3D TGSP? - OnePlus 5 Questions & Answers

Is there a way to remove it? I have tried OnePlus version and Orzly version and they are all the same. Also Orzly has those weird dots in the glass.

Can you share some pics

i agree, almost all glass protectors got this effect... some more some less, thats why im not using any and enjoying without

I have rainbow effect even on that protective something (dont know word :| )
I thought it is because of Amoled but seems like it isn't that case then ..

It's because the screen is not designed to stick to the display like other tempered screen protectors. This is a 3d tempered which has adhesive around the corners that make it stick to the screen.

I didn't have it on my pre applied. I kept my pre applied on until it got scratched up and removed it.

I am using a Orzly tgsp and it's a little rainbowy, but the thing that bothers me the most is the insane reflection. In clear daylight it's hard to see the screen instead of my face..

Glass screen with/without a screen protector

As you know the Hero has a special coating on the screen, and through the first few days of use i found it awesome. Finger prints are never really much or a problem. But being afraid that the glass screen might get scratched i put on a screen protector but now sensitivity seems a little ( tiny ) bit less & the fingerprints are quite horrible. So just wondering who here uses it without the protector & does is scratch easily ? Comments welcomed
you do not need a screen protector for glass screen phones, such as the Hero or iPhone. My Hero has been getting a rough treatment for about 4 months now and not a scratch to be seen.
I got one from boxwave.com (Anti glare one)
http://www.boxwave.com/accessories/htc-hero-screen-protectors_3636.htm
It helps with smudges as well.
What screen coating are you talking about? White Hero has teflon coating on the casing which has nothing to do with screen, I believe.
I am not sure that Hero actually has got a glass screen. If so, I think that screen protector is just pointless.
If it actually has got a plastic screen, I would not ruine my phone with screen protectors. Phones are meant for us to use.

Anyway, a screen with very minor scratches is not only more sensitive than a screen with protector, but better looking too. Bigger scratches, well, a protector won't protect from those.
imo a screen protector is pointless...ive been treating my hero rly badly and theres not even a tiny scratch...i can even fall drunk on the road with ur hero in hand and it doesnt break (tested)

theres an anti-fingerprint coating on the hero. Makes smudges harder to get on it and makes it very easy to clean it of. Thanks for the comment btw

i tried it before but didn't like how it detorriate the brilliance of the screen.
I was gonna get a screen protector for mine. But all they had at the time were the universal kind. And I knew better then to fall into that. But its been a week and not a scratch on it. I try not to put other objects in the same pocket and take notice when I'm doing something that may put the phone in danger. Making sure to remove it from harms way. But yeah... I don't think ill fall into the screen protector money pit with this phone. That's my opinion though. I spent a lot of cash on those things. Prolly enough that I could've just used my insurance and got a refurbished .

Yup...more and more touchscreens are going to it!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oleophobic
i have the white hero and about the screen, i thought there was a screen protector on it already when it came out of the box? doesnt it?
i tried peeling the corners a bit but not too much cuz i didnt want the corners to curl up and not stick anymore, and eventually it'll bug me and i'll have to rip the whole thing off (happened before) so i just left it alone and assumed theres a screen protector on the screen

how does everyone find this concept in practice? In the last few weeks the phobic part of it seems to be failing, or I need to wash my hands more often... just seems to be more dirty finger smudges hanging around until I give it a good wipe with a screen chamoise

Oh the fingerprints will still show up but I just wipe it off with my hand (a firm swipe up the screen) and it's as good as new.
The idea is that the oils do sit on top, but they aren't sticking so you can just wipe them off again.
Yeah i always am able to see the fingerprints but a swift wipe and theyre gone. I also always find that when i bring the phone out of my pocket the screen is perfectly cleaned every time. I like it
Mine has a very small (5mm) scratch. No idea how it happened
I too have a small scratch, about 3mm, in the middle-upper-right. No big deal, but its there if you look for it. It's a white Hero, if it matters.
Those scratches, on the screen?!
I have a tiny scratch on my screen too! It's over the black part next to the branding though so it's not a problem. I purchased a screen protector after this happened though, just to be safe.
I use a screen protector on mine (and a gel case) and I haven't noticed any problems with it being less sensitive.
When I first got the phone (G2) before I put the protector on I noticed the screen looked rubbish because it had fingerprints all over it....
I'm happy to use a screen protector to protect against scratches.... I wouldn't risk without as I want this baby to stay pristine
I like naked gadgets.
To those who got scratches, what type of environment does your phone get exposed to? Keys and coins normally won't scratch hardened glass, but dirt with rocks and sand will.

Dropped my Evo now have a couple scuffs on my screen how should I fix?

Please hold back your remarks about screen protectors this was a replacement, only the second day I had it, didnt have a chance to purchase one.

Think you could post a pic of the damage? if it's not too deep, i've heard of people using this product called applesauce that is supposed to give really good results. Maybe try that out and see how it works. Good luck to you, hope you get the scuffs out
You could try rubbing compound which is used on watches and things.

Yeah, just thought of this after I read this post but you can also try the stuff that is used to fill in cracks for car windshields.
light scuffs
I've heard that white toothpaste can be used on light scuffs on plastic.
or perhaps Brasso polish?
The screen on the evo is made of gorilla glass, not plastic. Therefore acid based compounds such as applesauce or lcd scuff removers on the market would not work. The famous banana slice/peel trick doesn't work here either. Some compounds for watches only clean the surface of the glass and remove dirt from within the scratches, making the scratch less visible.
Your best bet is to clean the glass to remove all dirt then install a screen protector like invisibleshield to mask the scratches. This will work better since a liquid solution (usually 1 part soap and 9 parts water) is applied to the screen so you can squeegee out all the air during installation. The only downside to this is the texture feels like apple skin and screen clarity is affected...maybe 15-20%.

Not sure if it's made of Gorilla glass-- not saying that it scratches easily (because it probably doesn't), but I found I had a two very, very slight surface scratches on the screen after babying it for a month (always put it in an empty pocket with no keys/coins/etc, never set it face down, etc).
In any case, I wouldn't try using toothpaste, brasso, or any other solution on the screen except for an eyeglass/electronic screen cleaner as you'll probably end up creating more noticable scratches. Just clean the screen as well as you can, and throw on a screen protector, and you'll probably never notice the scratch-- most very small scratches are only noticable when viewing the screen at a very oblique angle to catch a reflected light source, and the screen protector blocks this.
Also, I wouldn't recommend the ZAGG. I had never used a ZAGG screen protector before, but have heard great things about them, and I'm not particularly picky or sensitive about screen protectors. However, I found the Zagg protector had a horrible rubbery feel to it, and gave the screen a really bad and noticable orange peel effect (actually, the effect seemed more like the screen was behind a 1/4" layer of ice). I put on a cheapo $1.99 screen protector from Gizmo Dorks (on Amazon.com), and the difference was like night and day-- the screen was just as smooth and clear as the original glass.
I have a few too... Leave it be and after a couple weeks you'll forget you even have them.
Can we buy the glass yet for this phone? I replace iPhone 3G and 3GS glass on an almost daily basis at work.

He might... but I'm not sure a $100 deductible + limited further coverage is worth a few small scuffs. I guess it depends on how bad they are, but if they are anything like mine it totally would not be worth it.
You should be more carefull with your EVO.

Since the debate is going back n forth about the glass.....what is the difference between the two? Sure i could search but since there's a debate I think it should be explained this thread...
I looked all over and can't find anything confirming it's Gorilla Glass so I assume it's not. Plus I wouldn't find so many people with easily cracked screens if it was...

Scratches on my screen

Hi,
I put my phone in my gf's purse in a pocket just next to her earings (which I had not seen obviously) so my z2 screen got now a very obvious scratch that I would like to remove.
I can't feel it with my finger but it's still visually very annoying.
I tried the toothpaste but didn't do anything.
Would you have any product to recommend?
Thanks for your help!
Damn, thought the screen would be more resistant than that : ( Guess it's not as solid as Gorilla Glass.
Apply a screen protector, it normally helps hiding scratches
I highly recommend grabbing a glass screen protector (Nillkin on eBay is pretty good). It'll hide the scratch *and* feel great.

Yeap...
I'm using Nillkin tempered glass on all my devices and it's awesome.
First thing when I'm buying new device is ordering Nillkin TG.
I still have one I applied on Z1 and it's just like it was the first day.
I'm cleaning my devices by showering them and washing them in water so that's pretty awesome protector which could take all that and still stay proudly on screen

Metal should not scratch the screen.
Sand, glass or any other kind of silicon will though.
I had Nillkin Tempered glass, it couldn't apply/align properly. One edge was not good. Got angry and broke the glass lol. I'm totally OCD about screen protectors.
I generally do not use screen protectors, because even if they are immaculate when you put them on, they quickly become less so. The cure is worse than the disease. The only way I'd use one is if I was very very concerned about resale value and did not care if my display quality was impacted.

Screen protectors vs tempered glass is a world of a difference. Tempered glass does not show signs of scratches or air bubbles unlike normal screen protectors. They also dont hamper touch sensitivity and save the screen from the various damages we might inflict otherwise..

You can try Glass4M or iTop Tempered Glass.
iTop is quite hard to find but it's verry popular in my country. The screen protector fit perfectly and cost me about $10.

No fingerprints

One of the many things I like about this phone is I have no fingerprints on my screen. The phone I had before this one was terrible about fingerprints. I was always cleaning it. Thank you Nexus.

Some of us didn't make the mistake but it was the only option as carriers only offered the phone in midnight blue. It was either that or wait longer [emoji14]
Buy a case or if you prefer to not use a case then get a dbrand and you won't have any finger prints in the back. Win win.
By the way, tip for those getting screen protectors. Get a tempered glass, plastic screen protectors love fingerprints and oil smudges.

Have you found one with a good fit? The bevelled edge of the screen is really nice, not sure how a glass SP will interact with that. Also, I would hope that the glass screen protector isnt fully cut out for the speakers, i.e the glass completely surrounds the speakers from all sides. Does such a protector exist?

Tempered glass ones are also more likely (though it's not a guarantee) to save your screen in event of a fall. Usually if I see a broken screen with a glass screen protector on it, when I pull that off, the screen itself is fine. The plastic ones however... I see them with broken screens all the time.
@rootSU: Haven't specifically looked for any myself yet, as I use a rugged case. However, I would imagine the Otterbox Alpha glass will probably get it right. If not them, then zNitro.
I actually love my blue Nexus . As for the finger prints scotch tape removes them quite nicely. But most of the time my device is in a clear case.
I chose the Midnight Blue since I had the White 2013 Moto X.
My White Moto X got perma stained in many places from skin, dirt, oil and more. I had it in a case 70% of the time, but didn't help.
I like the way the Cloud White looks. But I'm in the minority for liking the Blue. Not only will I not get a perma stained back on my new Nexus. I actually prefure the looks of MB on this phone.
I also have a Supcase Hybrrid coming in the mail so prints and smudges on the MB will be moot.
TL;DR:
Owning a White phone isn't as cool as you think and has cons in the long run.
Agree, love my midnight blue. Fingerprints aren't an issue if you just care for it and wipe it down once in a while. :good:

It's real glass so it's easier to clean. Rainbow only visible under certain lights, halogen bulbs etc. 90% of the time it's not visible. Not visible in daylight.
