Instagram push notifications - Moto G5 Plus Questions & Answers

Hi everybody.
I am not able to turn off the push notifications on Instagram. Everytime I try the check mark goes back to everyone. It is annoying. I have uninstalled the app several times and logged out from Facebook as well.
Don't know if anyone here has the same issue or had, if so, how did you get rid of it?
Thanks

I find even when I stop the notifications it still runs its notification service in the back like the resource hog it is.. Alternatively you can use androids inbuilt notification blocker.. Go to app info and block all notifications

You can also Greenify the app if you are rooted. Personally, I stay away from social media because of its psychological effects and impact on battery life.

Facebook notifications aren't working

Hello everyone.
So first of all I love this phone, the speed, the capabilities and especially the battery life.
What I don't feel is tied to just this phone is me not being able to get facebook notifications. I get a notification if I receive a new message but that's all.
This happened on my Note 3 as well. I have logged in on a friends phone into my facebook account and the same thing. I do not get any notifications. I even used the old method of trying to log in on a blackberry and that didn't work either.
What I have noticed in Facebook Account settings is that I can not check on "group post or comments" under my notification settings.
I'm thinking it's some old app that I used on another phone that stopped this from working but I could be wrong. I have tried to turn off app on the platform setting and still nothing works.
All I receive now is the number of notifications "number" on the Facebook app icon. Don't shoot me but I like getting the actual notifications from Facebook to my phone to alert me.
Does any of you kind souls have an idea to how I can fix this? Or something you have tried that got your notifications working again.
I know about some third party apps but that's not what i'm looking for if I can help it.
Any help or ideas help.
Thank you

Late or Missing Notifications (S7 edge)

Is anybody with the S7 or S7 edge on Sprint having problems with various apps delivering push notifications late or not at all? I've noticed this specifically with apps like CNN and Reuters but also with a neighborhood app called "Nextdoor" that I use. I will get a notification about a message 10-15 minutes after I already received and checked it on the web version on my computer. I came from an S5 and never had anything like this before. Is this perhaps the power saving feature that suppresses background app activity? I would think it wouldn't do that for apps I very frequently use. No issues with text messaging notifications or anything directly related to the carrier.
Also - these have all been while on WiFi vs mobile data. It's really the only negative thing I've found so far. I am getting great battery life and standby drain.
Thanks!
I've noticed this only very rarely. For the most part push notifications come through instantly for me.
I think it has something to do with power saving feature, when enabled.
I was missing my Gmail notifications.

It's happening really frequently for me. I will have to try adjusting my power saving functions.

Happening with a lot of apps for me - but mainly FB Messenger and Gmail. With FB Messenger the orange notification number on the app itself will display but I never get a sound/vibrate or notification bar notification. With Gmail it's like my email is not syncing but once every few hours instead of pushing notifications (my notification settings are fine).
I will have to try to mess around with the power saving function.
Having the same issue S7. No notifications from WhatsApp, FB messenger etc. It seems like when the screen goes off it also turns internet off as each time I open the FB messenger it displays a message that it's connecting... not sure how to go from here :/ tried application manager options already
Yep, quite a few apps for me are affected. Using the stock settings for power settings, but I guess I'll have to play around to find which setting is causing this.
I checked and I have all power saving options disabled, so that can't be it...
If I have Power Saving on I miss all notifications until I open the specific app. Samsung changed it, hate it now I have to use my phone without Power Saving!

HELP! Message Notification dissapears

If I receive a text message, I get a notification in the top bar. If i receive a second text the notification disappears from the top bar and I have no way of knowing that I have messages until I open the app. This is extremely frustrating especially since I am away from my phone often at work.
Anyone have any ideas ?
Sounds like an app causing a conflict... does it do it in Safe Mode?
To enter Safe Mode, press power until the Shutdown confirmation pops up, then long press the notification and acknowledge Safe Mode... the next boot will not load any user applications in memory, just basic Android services, test it there and see if it is still a problem, if not you have an app that is conflicting, if it is still there I would try a factory reset and test again.
It does not occur in safe mode. How would I go about figuring out which app is causing the conflict

This is a carrier SMS (text message) issue? Remove any app you can that deals with SMS or texting except the stock app, that is where I would start. Or any app that monitors notifications. Unfortunately, this is a trial and error process. Do you have a lot of apps installed?
Either that or factory reset, then add apps one at a time until it breaks.
Yes, unfortunately, I do have a lot of apps installed. How would I go about seeing what apps deal with notifications or SMS. Thanks

Honestly, I don't know... Do you have lots of texting apps?
Just whatsapp
Any other ideas anyone ? It is extremely frustrating.
Test to see if WhatsApp is your conflict. Uninstall it long enough to see if it is the culprit. If it is and you want to keep using it, I don't know how to fix it, but at least you know more precisely where to start.
It is not WhatsApp causing the issue. Any other ideas ? I'm surprised no one else has had this issue. It is extremely frustrating.
I am still having this problem. I also get "unfortunately messaging has stopped." When receiving messages from one particular contact.
There are other apps that can do texting and act as a messaging app...I.e Facebook messenger, Hangouts, Skype, etc. The are also apps with access to messaging which you can find on permissions. As stated by acejavelin, you will have to start doing trial and error as this appears to be an app conflict if safe mode works. The easiest first step is to deny permissions to messaging and see if you can find the culprit.
Are you rooted by chance? I'm not asking you to root if you are not and I'm not claiming root is the issue. Try denying messaging app permissions first one by one. You can find this in Settings, Apps, tap the gear icon in top right, App permissions, SMS. If toggling one doesn't fix the issue, toggle the next one off. Just make sure to leave the stock messaging app on. If the text notifications problem persists, report back.
I'm not rooted. I am going to try this today. Thank you.
So I tried this and went through each app and denied permission of SMS to each one, one by one. The same thing happened everytime no matter what.

Denying permissions was an idea to try and make as painless as possible. The only options left for you to try are the most painful. However, as was asked once already, could this be something to do with your carrier (or your friends). While you could start uninstalling apps one by one, I would recommend doing a factory reset and start fresh when prompted (don't let Google automatically restore your apps). If upon a fresh install and update of system apps your message notifications don't work correctly, then it is a carrier issue most likely which you would need to take up with them. If message notifications work properly, then start installing apps one by one and testing as you go. Whether you uninstall or install one by one, it is not a quick process, but with a factory reset, you get a refreshed phone.

Oreo update - not showing notifications

Hi all
I have searched everywhere and I can't find anybody else with this issue... I surely can't be the only one...?
Since updating my Nexus 6P to Oreo I appear to have some apps not show a notification icon or anything in my notification drop down menu. My phone will vibrate as normal but my screen will not show any notifications...
This happens for Outlook (I will receive a normal notification and email preview on my Huawei watch running 2.0 but nothing at all on phone apart from its vibration), FotMob (a goal alert service if anyone is unfamiliar with it) and even push notifications on Facebook (to name a few). WhatsApp and text messages, for example, are working as normal.
I have reset all my notification and permissions settings TNA and even uninstalled and reinstalled the troublesome apps. Same result
Is this just apps not being fully supported for 8.0 or is this a different issue?
I really don't want to resort to a factory reset...
Thanks in advance
The most important thing i hate about Oreo .. is that Power notification control is missing the is so important for me!!

How were the apps installed? If you restored them through Titanium Backup, the device id for GCM push notifications will be wrong.
Uninstall, clear cache, then install the app from the play store.
Hi krs360
The apps were installed through play store. I am running fully stock, unrooted Android 8.0
Thanks
I have the same problem. Gmail is set to blink the notification light - but it doesn't! Argh!

There is something sketchy about oreo notification. Sometimes the LED simply doesn't blink at all , sometimes it simply blink very very slow.
Aquamail works fine
Gmail also doesn't pop up with a notification when the screen is off. But aqua mail does, and the notification light also works.
I think I found the answer to this. Basically it's a change in the SDK that requires the app author to fix. (I know, I just discovered the same problem in apps I wrote.)

Nothing quite so heartbreaking than to find a singular post/thread on the internet from someone having the same issue as you, only to discover that no solution has been posted and that it's old.
For what it's worth, having the same exact issue. Phone updated OTA a few weeks ago, and at first I was having the battery drain issue but that seemed to get fixed during the patch update, but now I've noticed that Outlook Calendar reminders, as well as Facebook Messenger App Notifications (new messages) no longer make a sound and/or show up as a notification on my phone. This is extremely annoying/difficult especially with Outlook as I have a really terrible time keeping things straight or organized, so I rely pretty heavily on the calendar reminders I set in it for daily/weekly/monthly things.
I could be wrong but I think it's related to notification lights.I wasn't getting anything until I turned it on and suddenly I was.
Hi,
Has anyone come across the solution for this issue? I have had it for over a month now and I really don't understand what the issue could be.
same issue with OREO (ZUK Z2 PRO)
also cannot edit permissions because it doesn't handle a device with plenty apps installed (+800) it hangs and crash / go back to main menu without letting you edit anything in options

Facebook notification problem Samsung S8

Hello Lads Looking for some advice and help if possible please.
I have a problem that I cant find an answer to. I have an S8 with facebook installed and I dont get a notification sound or a popup on the lock screen showing I have a notification? I do get a red number on the apk shortcut showing how many notifications I have.
I've deleted cache and data, uninstalled the app and reinstalled it, logged in and out. changed settings within the apk and on my desktop facebook within my browser. still nothing. Ive tried default facebook sound and custom facebook sound and still get nothing.
I need to get this working as I use it daily and Im missing out on some important group messages
Is it a S8 problem or a facebook problem. Phone on latest firmware (EE) and latest facebook apk installed
Can anyone help me please.
Thank you.
Hey did you find a fix?
No Pal still the same problem. No notification sounds , no notification icon on lock screen although I get the red 1 or another number depending on how many new notications I have on facebook apk shortcut, But thats it. NO sounds. Uninstalled reinstalled, cleared data and cache, Logged in an out , restarted phone. checked all settings on desktop
Ah well cheers for the reply mate, been through all those steps myself too. Here's hoping they actually fix this in an update!
I am having the same issues. Not much help but you are not alone.
still no fix for this.? Can anyone help?
Same problem
I'm having this same problem on my S8+. It's super annoying. No sounds, no pop up notifications, just the little red badge number on the app icon to let me know there are notifications. I've done all of the stuff you guys have done. Has anyone seen a way to fix this yet?
No fix yet hopefully when we get oreo it wlll sort it?
Have you attempted to install an older version of Facebook. Maybe it's the Apk itself and not your phone. A recent update probably caused a bug.
Here is what I recommend
Uninstall your current Facebook app
Download and install this version of Facebook
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/faceb...1-0-0-44-205-4-android-apk-download/download/
If not then try to download the latest beta.
Tell me if it solved your issue.

Uninstall Facebook? ?
In all seriousness the Facebook is a bloated battery hogging mobile privacy violation. There are several 3rd party apps that do a great job at Facebook while being efficient and not beaming your every move to Facebook hq for ad analysis
Dont think its the apk as it hasnt worked for months and there have been numerous updates to facebook , ive installed reinstalled etc loads of times but Ill try again later, Thanks on way out
