review of the xiaomi mi 6 screen - Xiaomi Mi 6 Guides, News, & Discussion

I have been using the phone for 2 weeks now and just finish travel.. I have to say the screen is amazing. My background is in home theaters hobby so I know how an accurate screen looks like.
Xiaomi mi 6 screen is so good that I was watching Netflix throughout my plane journey and my Uber ride at midnight. The lighting 4000+ levels of adjustment is perfectly tuned and had great auto brightness throughout. It's a real joy to look at the screen. The feeling is similar to my nexus 5.
Having the full rgb matrix helps everything be sharp.
Colors so accurate yet vivid!
The back light is very even and uniform
The white point accuracy is near 6500k which is near perfect grey point (colors on standard mode)
Sunlight view is so convenient at 600nits +
Touch response.. Well not one plus 5 fast but similar to nexus 5 after some comparison
10/10 for the screen.. The best 1080p panel I've ever seen on a phone

Not only does it look so good... The feel is sooooo smooth and so fast, it's like gliding.
It's beautiful.

B4 this Mi6 I had a OPX wich had a awsome AMOLED screen. And when I bought this Phone I was afraid to get unhappy with the screen but no! It is very good Indeed! I still feel the differnce when things get darker, ofc.

I noticed that if you put your phone on a pillow or on the bed and then use touch screen test app you can notice that if you try putting more than 3 or 4 fingers it doesn't register them very well and it's hard for the phone to keep track of them but when you hold the phone in your hand everything works fine.

Thats fully normal. Modern touchscreens, are capacitive rather than resistive, so that means that you should be able to interact with it as long as you can bring a small current to the screen where you want to touch. So hold it with your hand and the circuit is closed, otherwise the touches will not be registered properly.

But it doesn't happen with other phones.
I also have the LG g3 and xiaomi redmi note 4 and they don't have this problem.

I got the same thing.. No big deal. Tho never have more than 3 finger hahah

No, it's a problem and it shouldn't be that way and it doesn't matter if we use or don't use more than 3 fingers.

Near 6500k perfect white point

Loving the phone.
The battery is astonishing, the sound is excellent, the camera is good and the screen is super smooth!
What is NOT pretty is the micro scratches.
I have the Blue Ceramic and even though I've been Ultra careful, there are tiny scratches appearing on the back.
I've NEVER used cases and this phone feels so good in the hand BUT I'm Going to have to start using one here.... And I can't stand it.

Visibility of screen under sunshine

Hi all guys!
Anyone has tested the screen visibility under sunshine?
I have an HTC Touch and it's horrible...
Thanks!
It is visible but I won't say it is terrific. If it is not too good, I just need to tilt it a little and the screen will contrast and brighten.
Its horrible sometimes i think my phone is off..
I can barely make out the time in huge numbers
Actually this is another area that impresses me... I tried this out when I first got the phone and it is very readable/seeable... even in full sunlight I can see the screen... much better than my Kaiser/MDA Vario III

What screen settings are you using -- this thread includes responses that range from 0 to 10 and I suspect there are differences in settings. For exampled, have you turned off your screen autodimming feature?

I have left it on the Auto feature... at first I thought my phone had a glitch as the screen kept going dim... but it works really well... I also tried it in full light (by trying to reflect the indoor light to make the screen as obscure as possible, had to be indoors as its raining like a mother here) and even though the screen did become less readable I could still read the book I had in ubook... a plus for me...

maybe with a nice screen protector you may see something
I have the anti-glare one and I don't expect to see a bright screen in the afternoon
but maybe some screen protectors may help although I doubt it
it is really visible (if I'm not putting my sunglasses on), i was really impressed when i first got the phone. just make sure you set the auto dimming on.

I use martin fields screen protector and its great, so maybe that does have something to it...
uh, did you guys set the backlight to auto adjust? I mean at first I knew to save battery life I had to manually adjust the backlight 2nd to the dimmest. but I coudln't see anything while under direct sun. but somehow, on auto adjust, the backlight seem to work under it. I think the device has light sensor.

Unfortunate Dark Side of Screen :(

I have used the Note for a few days, but it became obvious that the screen at the right side is a bit darker than the rest of the screen... (see attached picture) (its my own picture, no gradients in the original)
I went back to the store in Den Haag, Netherlands where I bought it, hoping to get an exchange, but no Now its in repair )
When the screen is at its brightest, it not really shows, but if its at half brightness its pretty obvious...
So, I am back to my iny tiny S2 again, fortunately I didn't sell it yet...
!!
i don't see anything abnormal it looks fine to me

And just to prove it:
This is simply done in MSPaint. Ive taken a sample of colour from the left of the screen and the right of the screen and put them side by side to show even the hard of sight that the right side is definitely darker than the left.
Vinokirk, thanks!

So is this a problem with all Notes, or just the one which is mentioned in OP?

I don't see anything.
We need a more standardized test though.
If you run the facebook applications, is the right side darker?
The blue banners, or the white background? Mine looks fine, and I keep my screen pretty dim to save battery.

Anything.
Good that yours is ok.
It is very possible. My S2 exhibits noticable brightness difference when brightness is set to too high and this difference is only detectable when viewing all white web pages. But for normal use, the lowest brightness settable is too high for me and hence I use app called "Screen Filter". I set it down to as much low as 20% during night or when bed lamp is on. The scariest part I saw one night is a faint unmistakable circle of around 1.5cm diameter only visible in white background while "screen filter" is dimming it further by 50% to 20%.
I tried to capture with my DSLR but couldn't get anything better than I've attached. To naked eye, this circle is distinctly visible. If you do not see circle in the attached image, please ignore coz I frankly couldn't capture better.
Hint: the circle is on the top left of the picture.

GT 7.7 AMOLED producing similar issues as the SGS2 and SGN

Here we go again, looks like Samsung hasn't really fixed any of the 'issues' with the AMOLED display.
I can clearly see the bottom half of my 7.7 has a heavy yellow tint compared to the top half which is whiteish.
Anyone else noticing the same?

This being my first amoled display - I was blissfully unaware of "limitations" of this new technology. So I had mine on full brightness ( 70 -90%) for the first week I would say
Then I read some other posts like ths - then realised this was not a good thing to be doing. Its like plasma technology (although much better than lcd/led in terms of picture quality) it still suffers with the "image burn in" with static content. It took about 9 generations of plasmas to "cope" with this issue.
SO i would not recommend high brightness for the first week to two weeks to allow the screen to "bed-in" but I am not sure of how oleds function or they even need this.
I do have a very faint yellow hue that matches exactly with the system bar at the bottom. But off course the system bar is static and hides this all together. The problem is when you change oreintations - mine is 99% in landscape so not noticeable for my use.
However in portrait, this again is only really visible on a minimum brightness setting and against dull grey background. If I put up the brightness up to 25% it is really difficult to make out & any brighter I cant see it.
If it bothers you enough then to minimise static content:
1) Screen timeout from 1 - 15 minutes
2) I also now use "hidebar.apk" to hide the system bar. Can be a bit buggy but works on the whole and is free. Use it mainly when browsing for a long periods of time.
3) in the default browser you can change to full screen mode, in settings go to Labs -> select quick controls. This gets rid of the bar at the top.
Finally, full screen web browsing !! Also the quick controls are slick, once you get the hang of it. Just press on the extreme edges of the screen to bring it up.
Or just get a replacement. In your case it sounds bad enough.
For me I cant notice any issue 99% of the time. Even If I knew about the issue beforehand, I think the screen is just way better than anything out there for at least a year or two. You cant fault the rest of the tab - its pretty mint
just so people are aware, this screens "issues" are only for the neat pickers, they are not visible under normal usage condition when the screen is set to auto or manual
the only way to see those is when you set the brightness all the way to Zero
as long as you keep brightness at 20% or more you wont see any of that
Is this the same issue with the Galaxy S1?
On the bottom half I have an area that is yellowish on white pages. And when you look at a black image in a dark room the black on that area is more dark.
When you turn the display off and look against the sun or similar bright light source at a shallow angle you can see that the golden mesh is not flat in this area. it is bumpy

For me there is a huge difference between not having any of those screen issues and saying 'its only visible when X is done'. I prefer to have a flawless screen If I decide to purchase, the money back guarantee / refunds are there for a reason.
I use autobrightness as well and it does drop to 0% when Im using my device in the bed room with the lights off. of course I dont have a Tab 7.7 yet but this is how its been since my Galaxy S days and I've never had to do certain things to prevent flaws from surfacing, it was just flawless to begin with aside from the Pentile limitations on the text.
Then again your opinion, my opinion. I hope to see a flawless screen on the Tab 7.7 though but Im not expecting much.
But we shall see once its locally available.

Dude, the 7.0+ is probably better option for you. Save some money and headache because the technology is samoled+ not ++ or whatever the next generation is going to be called in 12 months.
I would say "normal" usage patterns and many will have flawless screens. Blast it at 100% brightness with a static image for a week - you will not be a happy bunny

Many will have flawless screens but you advise against it
I'll just have to wait for one that is flawless and purchase it, putting the stock keyboard in landscape mode easily shows this issue. For what its worth this yellow tint no matter how slight will show up in HD movies
Even with my phones Im more of an indoors user so my brightness stays either auto or probably fixed at 20% and I usally drop to 0% when web browsing in bed.
But I'll have to see it in person.. or its another refund process.
EDIT:
Believe it or not some review reviews on the Galaxy S2 and Galaxy Note in HD format actually shows a noticeable hint of yellow tinting.. I've seen 2 HD reviews/previews so far and it looks good. Hopefully it translates well in real life.

dont get me wrong. all i am saying that for me i have to go through the following to see something.
1) reduce brightness to 0%.
2) use third party app to dim screen below normal brightness threshold.
3) use third party app to remove system bar
4) change background to a dull grey
so it all depends on ur definition of flawless.
as i say under normal circumstances it is a non issue.

For me its just a 3 step process
1.) set the brightness to 0%
2.) pop out the stock keyboard which is already grey
3.) check for color uniformity
Heres an example on my Galaxy Note: I've cropped the pictures and its a little misaligned be the judge if Im nitpicking or not.
My 'normal' conditions involve using the tab at 0% brightness in about 85% of the time. But I'll have to see it in person to judge but going with that you said then maybe the RGB stripe handles discolorations a bit better.
What am I supposed to see?
I can see that the left part looks "normal" and the right half has yellowish gray colors.

[Q] So those who have one, what are your first impressions?

Surprised that hardly anyone who has got one is letting on how they feel about it and what first impressions are, unless you are all treading carefully so as not to incite rage and indignation at the (ahem) less than smooth ordering process that has left the rest of us wondering whether tablets will be a thing of the past by the time ours arrive.
So far the only review/feedback I've seen is the poor guy who got a developer ROM and had to return it.

Did you have a Nexus 7 before the 10? Are the colors washed out as badly on the Nexus 10 as the Nexus 7? I was fairly disappointed with the Nexus 7, but am hopeful for the Nexus 10 resolving the color saturation problems.
How is the screen compared to the Ipad retina? Is it comparable? The backlight bleed is noticeable in any condition?

Got mine today morning ( France ), it was really a fast delivery ( got expedition mail yesterday )
After unboxing I've got 45 min to play with it ( then work... and I'll be back home in few hours tonight ^^ ), first impressions, overall quality of materials are impressive, the "plastic" on the back is really made for the skin of your hand, and doesn't feel like plastic, the upper part of the back is also very nice to see and touch.
I've noticed the upper part was starting to become warm after 30 min of use, not too much, just enough to enjoy having it in your hand in winter
The screen...gorgeous...that's all. I've seen lots of tablet screen recently, the N10 screen is perfect, didn't notice any bleeding for the moment.
The reactivity is also near perfect ( "Near" because I experienced some little little little slowdown sometimes, especially with firefox, I've also got app crash with it )
The negative point would be the destktop of jelly 4.2, I've found that a lot of borders space on the desk is not usable for widgets or shortcuts.
This is the best toy I've ever purchased
I'm looking forward for tonight to install more apps and start my test of PC control throught the tablet.

Do you mean the Nexus 10 your about to receive, or have you already got one with backlight bleed?
It makes me laugh hearing you guys talk about light bleed...
You guys are aware that every fking display has some? I had two iPad 2 and both had light bleed, my iPad 3 with retina had light bleed too and two of my friends have the Transforme Prime TFT300 and BOTH have light bleed.
Its minor but in a dark room with dark images and britghness set at max, they all show but then again who puts their brithness at the max in a bright room string at the corners of the screen?!

Its minor but in a dark room with dark images and britghness set at max, they all show but then again who puts their brithness at the max in a bright room string at the corners of the screen?!

Fair point. It's only an issue if it's distracting during normal brightness & usage.

I agree with you. If consumers were THAT worried about light bleed, you would think they would wait to use one before they ordered it...
Hi,
does anyone else has a chirping sound? Especially when the display brightness is low.
Sounds like a frequency regulator.

Does usb otg on the nexus 10 supply enough power for a usb hard disk to be mounted? Can anyone try and report back?

Hmm, you shouldn't be able to actually hear circuit components. Definitely a defect.

New Pixel 2 XL

Dang the new XL is sweet. It's so much better than what we see in the photos. I think they hit it out of the park with this one. Love the always on, the vibration is way better, screen is great.

Edit, again picture shows now.
Your link doesn’t work
link works for me
He fixed it notice the edit. Ps phone looks great I don’t know why we’re hearing so much complaining about the bezels. They don’t look big at all
The link is working for me. Congrats on receiving your phone so early!
Congratulations..
Can you please check this out for me, it will be very helpful..
please can you check (when screen locked) if the notifications will show as ambient (screen black with notifications text only for a while) when receiving a new notification..? I know there is an always on display feature, but was wondering if still with it the new notifications texts will show on a black screen for a while like the ambient display feature in the old pixel..
Really appreciate if someone can answer..
Is there a way on Pixel phones to edit the nav bar buttons like on most other phones? I like the back button on the right.

We need more real world reviews on the screen from Avg Joe consumer. The screen is taking a beating online. Makes me weary. My 6p had that bluish rainbow effect viewing angle issue.
Can you comment more on how the display looks to you personally? So far the reviews are not good.

Screen looks great to me. I have it about 50%brightness. Even from angles I don't see what the issue is.
Very nice design but.. Screen looks dull as f..
Not just dull but inaccurate.

Don't think that would work anyway.

Actually colors are more accurate than any other OLED screen out there. They’re not over saturated like the galaxy phones

I don't believe so without root.

So far the screen is fine. I'm not the right guy to ask about screen this or that so I would defer to the big screen thread. The only thing I do notice is a blue tint when you tilt the screen 20 plus degrees like a lot of the other people have stated but it doesn't really bother me as I almost always look at the screen straight on
In the unboxing videos I've seen, I haven't seen the tool for removing the sim card tray.
Is there one included? I'm not sure I have mine still from my 6P. I'm sure I can use something else, but it would be nice if the new phone came with one.
Thanks in advance.
Edit: so funny. Not 60 seconds after typing this, I click on an unboxing video and the first thing shown is the sim card ejector, which is in with the manual packaging.
Oh well, I hope I get this bad boy soon. My ship date is scheduled for the 24th and I'm hoping for sooner.
Yeah got my phone yesterday as well, screen is different to say the least but the accuracy of color is really gorgeous. Google said they will be releasing a fix for the screen to adjust it or maybe disable SRGB as it's not for everyone but the phone works great, lightning fast, and take everything I throw at it. I have substratum themes running on it now (non rooted) and still the phone works great and looks great.

Is there an option in "Developer Options" to toggle sRGB? With it enabled on my 6P, the colors do look more muted, yet more natural. I was just wondering if the picture color mode can be changed.

The funny thing is if you go to settings and search for it, it says it's there in developer options, but when you look for it, it's not there lol
