[MOD] Hide Navigation bar and/or Notification bar [ROOT not required] - Huawei P9 Themes, Apps, and Mods

After looking for this till the moment I bought my P9, a year and a month ago... I successfully found how to hide those bars(in my case I just wanted to hide navbar). I already tried it on rooted and unrooted devices.
Hide Status Bar only type:
adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.status=*
Hide Navigation Bar only type:
adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.navigation=*
Hide Both Bars type:
adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.full=*
Back to normal/default state:
adb shell settings put global policy_control null*
Quick navbar hide
Hide navbar on Nova Launcher
adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.navigation=null,com.teslacoilsw.launcher
Hide navbar and notification bar on Nova Launcher
adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.full=null,com.teslacoilsw.launcher
F.A.Q.
If you want to hide just the navbar use:
policy_control immersive.navigation
If you want to hide navbar and notification bar:
policy_control immersive.full
If you want to hide just the notification bar:
policy_control immersive.status
If you want to make exceptions
Exclude apps (notice "full" apply for nav and notif bar)
immersive.full=apps,-"app location",-"another app location"
Include/woks only in specific apps (notice "navigation" apply for nav only)
immersive.navigation=null,com.teslacoilsw.launcher
If you want to include/exclude an app you need the system name for that package, an easy way is to go to the Play Store through your browser and copy de id= in the URL, for e.g the package name of ADW Launcher 2 is "org.adw.launcher"
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.adw.launcher&hl=en
Note: This commands also works on Nexus 6P:

Keyboard works, the only kind of issue i found was replying from the notification bar on home screen sometimes don't leave me press the space bar, 'cuz the home, back, menu button overlay the key; but there is not any other issue.
I tried GMD onces, likes 1 year ago, but I experienced weirds behaviors; also take note that this is a native command, so there is not other app running and consuming resources, battery for example.

Excellent solution! Thank you!

Also i check it, working perfectly in non-root device

Immersive Mode still ok?

I am not an S8 user yet, will be soon enough.
I use this command via ADB to permanently hide the status/notification bar on my S6 Edge+.
adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.full=*
My question is, will doing this also remove the Navigation bar?

Navigation Bar gone, now I have a gap

So I used GMD in the play store to disable the navigation bar on my S8+ to further enjoy the infinity screen but now I have a gap at the bottom of my dock where it used to be. (See image) I am using nova prime as my launcher. Anyway to get rid of this gap?
try setting Nova launcher as Full screen in phone Settings > Display > Fullscreen apps
Thanks for the suggestion but didn't work.
Android is still trying to take into account the navbar even if it isn't there. I'd image it some systemUI app setting or something else within the OS.
I have mine setup to be immersive all the time and all launchers I've tried act the same. Not much of an issue for me.

Best to use the manual ADB way. No gaps
Use Shortcutter, which has an Immersive Mode switch that goes in the quick settings.
Then enable it to write settings via adb command:
Code:
adb shell pm grant com.leedroid.shortcutter android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS
Then, in the Configure Services/Tiles tab, in the Immersive Mode section, select "Show Mode Selector". This makes it so every time you select Immersive Mode, it will allow you to pick between hiding nav bar only, hiding status bar only, or hiding both. The benefit of using Shortcutter is that you get that switch in quick settings, so you can switch between having both bars, either one, or neither at any time (such as when you hand the phone to a friend and they can't figure out how to use the phone ).
Personally, I select to hide both, and use a notifications widget on my desktop to look at notifications, and enjoy a huuuge display for everything I want to read or chat.
Examples:
desktop - notifications go in the blank space in the middle

[ADB, no root] How to hide the navigation bar AND status bar on all apps

First of all, it's important that this mod isn't for everybody, because it hides the status bar as well, to fill the entire 18.5:9 screen with content. It looks very immersive, as if the entire front side of the phone is display, because the top bezel is about as thick as the status bar would be, and the bottom bezel is about as thick as the navigation bar would be. I don't find the status bar to contain any info that I need to view all the time, if I want to view the time, battery percentage or notifications, I'll just slide down from the top to show the status bar.
I've added the TouchWiz launcher as an exception, because even if the status bar and navigation bar are hidden, the empty area where they would be stays there. View attached screenshot 1 to see what this mod looks like in-app, and screenshot 2 to see what it looks like on the home screen.
Steps:
1.Install ADB, and open the ADB terminal. Steps to install are here: https://www.howtogeek.com/125769/how-to-install-and-use-abd-the-android-debug-bridge-utility/
2. When you have opened the terminal and connected your phone in USB debug mode, enter this code to the terminal, and press enter:
Code:
adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.full=*
3. After this, you will notice, that the navigation bar and status bar will disappear on your phone on all apps. Now enter this code to the ADB terminal, to re-enable them on the TouchWiz launcher:
Code:
adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.full=apps,-com.sec.android.app.launcher
If you're using a third party launcher, it most probably won't need the navigation and status bar, because it will probably adapt to the changes by stretching. But if you want to show the bars on a custom launcher, just replace "com.sec.android.app.launcher" in the piece of code above with the package name of the application where you want to show the bars in.
To disable the mod, just enter this code to the ADB terminal:
Code:
adb shell settings put global policy_control null*
Additional tip to ease navigation when the navigation bar is gone, use an app called All in one gestures, found here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.phoenixstudios.aiogestures&hl=en
You can see how I set up the app in attached screenshots 3-6, I set up the left edge swipe to act as a press of the recent apps button, and the right edge swipe to act as a press of the back button. I'm using the pressure-sensitive home button as a home button, because a hard press of the place where the home button would be acts as a press of it. Navigating with edge swipes is super easy on the S8 because the edge is very comfortable to swipe from, I find it even more intuitive than using the navigation bar to navigate. I hope that you enjoy this mod as much as I do, I've been using it for weeks now. :good:
thank you
Hi there,
i recently got my new phone - sgs8. The display format is not allways that usefull since most apps will left a black bar because they where made for 16:9 and not 18,5:9.
Anyway there is a way where it could be very useful - multiwindow.
Well its a nice function especially with that long screen. Sadly there is the Navigation bar which eats up about 0,4inc/1cm of the screen.
By now i have tried all the steps @ gadgethacks and above.
I was able to remove the Navigation bar on homescreen (where i actually don't need it to be gone - so i reactivated it for the specific launcher)
but not in multiwindow. Whatever i do, whatever launcher i use (nova, apex, standard) the white bar (not allowed yet to post link/picture) wont disappear.
Is there a way to get rid of it as well?
thx

status bar hidden

I have Oneplus 5 and latest OOS OB5
Today i noticed that status bar gets automatically hidden and can be enabled only with swiping down.
I had Nova launcher installed, but in settings status bar is enabled like it has always been.
Just to make sure i cleaned Nova Launcher`s data and cache and disabled launcher.
But still status bar gets hidden and i have tried to find setting to get is back without success.
ps. As my phone is rooted i tried already dirty flash latest Beta OS and cleaned caches from recovery
If anyone is able to help that is greatly appreciated because I have no idea what can cause this or what should be done.
I don't use OOS but it sounds like a setting for expanded desktop is enabled. Search the settings for expanded desktop and if it's on disable it.

I have search immersive and expanded desktop, but unfortunately there is no such settings.
Also even if I enable navigation bar from settings they wont show up
I was able to bring status bar back with adb command
"adb shell settings put global policy_control null"
But still I don't have no idea how it got hidden

Block notification bar on lock screen?

I realized that, even if the Mi (in Oreo Stock Rom) is blocked, it allows you to display the notification bar and deactivate the mobile data or activate the airplane mode. Is there any way to change that?
I think that if the device is blocked, it should not be able to interact with the notification bar ...
I have not seen a solution. So, I open the thread to see if you can help me.
Thanks in advance!

It's possible to remove Quick Settings Tiles in lockscreen but you need root access to do that.
I'm using Tasker to set Quick Settings Tiles when device locked and reset it when device unlocked.
Example 1: shell command to get current Quick Settings Tiles
Code:
settings get secure sysui_qs_tiles
Example 2: shell command to set Quick Settings Tiles to Flashlight only
Code:
settings put secure sysui_qs_tiles "flashlight"

I appreciate the contribution, mate
It's funny have to root the device to apply a basic security measure ...
