Question on returns - OnePlus 5 Questions & Answers

I have a question for those that have returned their OP 5. Was there any fee or shipping associated with returning or did you get 100% back what you spent? I bought my OP 5 on launch day and all the accessories were out of stock. Now they are back in stock but they want to charge like $24 shipping and I cannot use my $20 vouchers since I'm not buying them with the phone. I was considering returning the one I just got and ordering a new one with accessories included. Any downside to doing this?

I've just started the process in the US. I'm paying for shipping to their processing center. Accessories can only be returned if unopened.
Sent from my HTC U11 using Tapatalk

Shipping back to them should only cost $6 or so usps priority plus insurance.

What is the address of their processing center?

I was in same situation and returned phone I bought on early drop....I had to pay $9 as shipping fee to Temple, TX and should get 100% return. They said they accept only FedEx though...not sure if that is entirely correct...but I heard if you claim in PayPal, you will get the refund for return shipping also...

You get a full refund if you return the phone within 15 days after receiving it. At least that's what it shows on their website. I had to pay for return shipping and hopefully i get a refund for that. I sent mine back as soon it arrived. I didn't even open the box. It took two days to arrive at Oneplus location in Texas. I got an email saying they received my phone and wait for 2 days to inspect and get processed. Good luck!

Uk buyers YOU WILL get a VAT invoice

I know there is another thread on this and in it i said that if the box isnt opened you wont get a bill. Well that is wrong.
I know now different from lots of sites ive read.
I have had my Nexus One 3 weeks and only just got my bill!
The worst thing is i bought my phone from ebay because the guy said he would send it as a gift. He sent it direct from Google the T**T.
So not only did i pay over the odds i now get a vat bill, plus i oredered a dock the other day thinking i wont have to pay tax on that!!!
Yup, this is correct, my invoice from DHL arrived over the weekend.
I ordered my Nexus One on the 8th of January (from Google).
Whats the damage on the import/VAT bill for you guys? How long (roughly) is it taking for the N1 to arrive after ordering?
Cheers
£60ish, took about a week for my N1 to arrive.
£61.40

first of all why would you buy from ebay, when you can buy direct from google? ebay's just not worth the hassle and risk, and even more so going through a middle man when you need a receipt/warranty replacement. I very doubt you paid less than I did buying direct from Google. So there is no reason to buy from ebay unless you tried to skip the VAT, which IMO WILL be added obviously if the guy is selling the device for so cheap. If it wasnt cheap then no reason to not get it from google.
as for the box unopened - you wont recieve a bill for VAT.... i never knew Google put a spy inside the box.
I've had my device now for almost a month. Still no sign of invoice so heres hoping.

I bought from ebay as it cost me £390 delivered.
Now if he had sent it as a gift like he said i would have saved on paying the VAT. Thats the only reason i got it from ebay.
My warranty is still covered as i have had to send it away for repair for the dust under screen issue.
The part about the box was intended for an earlier post where someone said if the box wasnt opened you wouldnt get a bill, he was wrong.
I've had mine for a month now. I haven't had the VAT invoice yet, but I always knew it was coming. The whole "depends on whether the box is opened or not" is BS. DHL do a declaration for each unit based on the info from google. The only way you wouldn't get an invoice is if DHL stuff up and don't send one - but that is not likely.

Just wondering if anyone have been charged an extra 5% duty on top of the VAT? I thought mobile phones and PDAs were exempt from customs duty charge? I've tried calling DHL but their line is always busy.

If you want to avoid it you can use a US based company where you pay them and they send it as a gift, theres a thread on here somewhere cant find it now,.

Well it's too late now, the DHL invoice is right on my table. I've been charged 5% duty on top of the VAT which is why I'm asking in the first place.
The DHL helpline was too busy so I'll try calling again on monday. If I can't get through I'll pull a lolittle and wait for them to call me instead. There is no way I am paying an extra 5% (about £18) on top of the VAT (£60, so totalling £78) to the greedy taxman.

Anyone manage to avoid UK import tax?

Has anyone managed to get away with UK Import tax on the Nexus One?
If you haven't got your tax bill, when did you order your phone?
I got mine on 13th...picked up from DHL depot myself with 3 identical white paper slips in pouch and haven't received any VAT bill yet. You?

Got mine four weeks after the phone was delivered.
Got mine on the 8th Feb. Not got tax yet.
Curious if DHL do open all packages or does some slip through customs.
Been reading threads on other boards about this and what appears to happen is Customs opened them, DHL pays the VAT so you can get the item, and then you are billed for the VAT on DHL's behalf and are required to pay it.
Consensus seems to show that it takes 3-4 weeks (maybe more) to get your VAT bill, but it will happen.
i got my nexus one 6 days after it came out. still no vat
now that ive said this though...mayb ill get a letter on monday lol. but for now, i have nearly doubled the '3-4weeks' timeline.

I thought most people were getting a separate invoice *after* delivery of the phone, but when I ordered I had tracked the parcel to East Midlands Airport, then wondered why it didn't go out on a van for delivery ... I found out when I received a phone call (from a company called Sutherlands rather than DHL themselves) asking for the VAT payment upfront, then they'd arrange delivery next day ... I paid but mentioned I was a bit annoyed they had done it that way round, they said collection was not possible.
I phoned DHL direct and asked if I could collect it, they said Sutherlands generally didn't send through payment confirmation for several hours and they wouldn't release it until they had, I gave them the payment reference for them to chase up.
As it happened I was travelling past East Midlands Airport anyway, so I popped in, explained and they they were fairly decent about it, checked the parcel number, and payment number and fetched my N1 from round the back.
£65.03 for an N1 + UK charger + desktop dock
I phoned DHL while my parcel was still over in the US and the customer service section already know that I would have to pay £60 VAT on it before it had even arrived in the UK. I can only assume then that google must make a declaration as to the value of the goods before they ship
Bought on 18th Feb, received a bill for £58 this morning.

You aren't a hero you know. This is simply VAT. Every (non-basic) product sold in this country is subject to it and anything imported is also subject to it. By not paying you are evading tax. That, my friend, is a serious crime and you aren't gonna somehow convince them to just 'let you off'
Just pay it now and save yourself a lot of bother/further expense later.

G2 $99 for upgrades or new lines at Costco.

Saw this over at SD. Costco in store and online is offering the G2 for $99 ($150 - 50 rebate) for contract upgrades/renewals as well as new contracts. Comes with an accessory pack (mostly junk but does have a car charger). You can keep your old data plan, from the thread it sounds like it must be a smart phone data plan or you have to get the $30 data plan.
link to the deal

yeah this is a good deal i work at costco they might tell you you have to change your data plan but just call customer service to change it back after jump on this great offer
I was going to wait until the phone was rooted, but this price is too good to pass up since I'll be a contract extension.
Does anyone know if there's a 14-day return period when you buy online, or if Costco's normal 90-day return period applies? When I spoke to the phone kiosk representative in my local Costco, he said it would be 14 days. But at the Costco wireless website, the FAQ says 90-days.

from what I understand both are in place. You can return the contract extension for 14days, you can return the phone for a refund for 90days. 90 day refund is great if you have an issue with the phone and want to swap it out for a new one.

Yep, I believe this is what I was looking for. Originally I was going to wait for the G2 to go BoGo at t-mobile before switching but with this deal I think I'm gonna be there Saturday. Costco Membership just saved me more money!
I'll call customer service tomorrow and tell them I am thinking about returning my G2 and going to Costco to upgrade and see if Tmo will price match costco.
One of my buddies called me tonite, asked about how good the g2 is and he was sold.
He was ready to buy it at Tmob store at 200, I told him about this deal and walmart.
He took off from Tmob and went to Costco and got it asap, Thx to OP and slickdeals!
Just picked this up at the Costco at Pentagon City, VA. Price was 125 after tax (or rather 175, since I haven't sent the $50 rebate in yet). Really the best deal out there for upgraders. I'm glad I waited. Thanks to the op!

A while back others have tried that with the vibrant and tmob tells them they will lose their upgrade status if they return it. When costco pulls up your info, the system will show you're not upgradable.
However, if you didnt buy it yet and ask tmob to price match they wont, they will tell you to go ahead and buy it at costco.

Considering that you got the phone for a steep subsidy discount, what does "returning it for a refund" mean here?
You get your $99 back, but then a new phone will cost you full price because you already used your upgrade?
They can switch you to another phone they sell, 1 for 1, for the difference of the subsidized upgrade price? (But only if you do it through them?)
They will refund $449 (their full price for the phone) since they already get their $350 from T-Mobile?
What gets refunded, and what happens to your upgrade status?
Stupid question:
do you have to be a costco member for this deal?
I purchased the phone through a t-mo store and was eligible for an upgrade price. Then I saw this post regarding a cheaper price @ costco. I immediately returned the phone after having it for 3 days. Went to costco and tried purchasing it there and was suprised to find out that I was no longer eligible for the upgrade. I called t-mo rep (Shad) and was informed that I can no longer purchase the phone at a discounted price since I went through the purchase the first time. I tried debating with him as to why I am no longer eligible since I returned the phone and didn't get my full refund if this was the case? I understand not being refunded for the $18.00 upgrade fee for their cost and all but if I lose my eligibility then that is not fair. I challenged him to send me in black & white this rule of theirs and he wouldn't comply. I hung up and called corporate office and was directed to customer loyalty department and explained the issue to Wency and everything went thru perfectly. All she did was price match what costco had and will be shipping it out.
Sorry for the long story (I hope I don't get flamed for this). Just an advice for those who purchased the phone and wanting to return it and call corporate so you bypass the BS you will be going thru like I did.

[Venting] T-Mobile's Return Policy

Okay, I'm mad. So I decided I did not like the G2 and wanted to hold out for a better phone in the future. I pre-ordered it and called up the local T-Mobile store to ask if I could return my phone. They happily said sure come on in. The closest T-Mobile store is about 20 min away, but it beat shipping the damn phone.
Well, when I got there, they saw I had the G2 and quickly said ohhh nooo sorry sir but you have to ship that back. We can't take it. WTF. I told them they just told me over the phone I could return it and they just kept apologizing.
Then I called T-Mobile on the way home (speaker phone) and told them I needed to return the G2. The rep I got started going on about how come I don't want to keep it. I literally had to argue with this douche before he agreed to let me return it. He also said they would not cover any shipping charges. WTF.
So I finally shipped it off about 2 weeks ago and put $500 insurance on it. Well, I called T-Mobile yesterday to see if they had received my phone yet so I could get the credit put back on my EIP (So I can buy a new phone possibly the HD7.) They said they don't have it and to call USPS. I called USPS and they can't find any info on it except that it *should* be at the T-Mobile warehouse by now. WTF.
So I have both companies telling me to call the other company. I'm really pissed off. I don't know what to do next. :\
tl;dr version : T-Mobile and USPS say they both don't have my phone!
This is why you should NOT send anything USPS but first class mail. THEY LOSE THINGS! UPS and FEDEX are the only way to go when it comes to returning items. Sorry that you have had bad luck. But NEVER have faith in the postal service...
Well if USPS can't prove that was delivered you have insurance on the package file a claim and get the money for it.

I shipped mine back FedEx Ground with $500 worth of insurance. I have the signature of the person who signed for it. Call me paranoid, but I don't trust USPS for squat either. It cost me a total of $11, including the box and filler.
Did you fill out the return sheet and provide T-Mobile the tracking number (as instructed) *before* they received it?

Nobody gives you insurance by default. You have to ask for it *and* pay for it. Even then, you have to prove to them that it wasn't delivered, which requires tracking and signature confirmation.
Sucks, but USPS has always been like this.

I sent mine back via UPS, as soon as I left the store I called T-Mo and they put the tracking info in their system, checked the status and since it showed up they went ahead and credited my account as if they already received it.
Victor
I also believe that when you talked to them, they more than likely said to ship it back via UPS or FedEx to insure you have a tracking number. At least they have told me that every time I have sent a phone back to them over the years.
You'll be alright. Make sure to save your receipt from USPS and a tracking number. Call tmobile until you speak with a supervisor. You may need to wait for them to call you back. Tell em your story, give them your numbers and they'll track it down. They have a way of tracing packages. You'll get your money back if you have proof you sent it and you push hard.
Good luck.

Yeah I still have the receipt with the tracking. The problem with the tracking is that when I try to search for it, it says this:
"Delivery status information is not available for your item via this web site. A return receipt after mailing may be available through your local Post Office."
So, yeah, I won't be using USPS again. As for whether or not T-Mobile said I could use USPS, they did.
I'll try getting a hold of a supervisor tomorrow. Hopefully they can get this resolved for me. Luckily, I'm in CA, so I have 30 days to return it.
I'm confused....did you order delivery confirmation on the package? Because the only way you can track a package with USPS is if you order delivery confirmation (or if you send it via registered mail...but I think that's only for envelopes).
Btw I sent my G2 back to TMO and they credited my account $10 for the shipping.
Big mistake sending it USPS... should have sent it UPS or FedEx.

what everyone else has said about USPS - and it can take 6 months + to resolve a loss claim with them - biggest joke in the world.
I had an experience with them over a $505 COD pmt that never came back to me and it took over six months to resolve and the only reason it got resolved then was that i knew someone high up in the Postal system that pointed me at the right person to talk to. Without that pointer, i'd still be waiting for that pmt to show up
UPS or Fedex aren't the greatest, but at least losses are resolved in short order (2-3 weeks at the outside) - we ship a lot with UPS so we've had some experience with them. And their tracking svc actually shows where something is in the system - postal shows "in transit", sometimes 3 weeks after it's been delivered

I preordered the G2 and was fully aware that I'd have to pay for shipping if I returned it during the buyer's remorse period. Too bad someone from the tmo store gave you wrong info - but that is to be expected. I never rely on the store workers for information.
Chances are they will find your phone so don't sweat it!

So who do you recommend besides Fedex or UPS? For small packages of high value Fedex is better. For heavier / larger stuff UPS is the best - as far as price goes at least. This is true of 3 day / ground type service insured.

Remember, this is USPS.
When the recipient signs for the package, they return mail you the little yellow card (also via USPS, and also just as likely to be "lost" by them.)
In any event, you'll have to go through USPS and file a claim. They might make you wait a few more weeks, so the return card has time to arrive.

FedEx vs UPS - It really doesn't matter anymore. Both are comparable for most packages. Just don't use USPS for anything important.

[Q] Amazon return policy

Has anyone delt with Amazon returns for a device they just do not want anymore?
I am really liking the Transformer, but am wanting to return it for a 3G Honeycomb.
Thanks
As long as you bought it from Amazon, not a 3rd paty reseller, you have 30 days to get a full refund. You pay return shipping (they deduct it from your refund total), unless your item is defective; they pay the return shopping then.
I wonder if the battery draining thing counts as defective? I also wonder what Amazon does if you return something "because you don't like it" and then rebuy it at a later date -- which is what I'm thinking about doing with my dock and waiting until they fix the charging.

Actually you pay return shipping if the item is not defective and then they credit you the shipping. I just returned an LG LED TV to them, and emailed them thru amazon.com website the amount I spent for shipping. The credit was issued to me right away.
But the item has to be ordered and fulfilled by Amazon.

I'm pretty sure that Amazon's return policy for TVs is different from most electronics. Amazon currently has a hassle-free no questions asked 30 day return policy on TVs. This is to combat B&Ms.
I don't think the same applies to other electronics. Last time I checked, you did have to pay for return shipping and there might also be a restocking fee but it may have changed.
