Can't record 60FPS or 24FPS video on Open Camera and other camera apps (ZE520KL) - Asus ZenFone 3 Questions & Answers

I'm having trouble recording 60FPS full HD video on Open Camera. Every time I set it to record at 60FPS or 24FPS, it records video but only at 30FPS. I'm getting the same issue with Filmic Pro. It's not a hardware issue since I can record 60FPS with the stock camera app. I've also noticed that when using the Cinema 4K app, the flat profile option just crashes the app every time. Is Asus doing this on purpose? It would be pretty ****ty of them if they did. The stock camera app doesn't give me a lot of options when it comes to recording video like Open Camera does. If I installed a custom ROM on it, can I get other apps to record at 60FPS?

I think it is the api, its a shame really as the API is not supported fully, Lineage OS might give you some luck but there is no guarantee, make sure you backup files b4 any mods

I have same problem and i don't think that any camera app can give you 60FPS full HD option.
I think that an api problem because i try 5 or 6 camera app and it just crash or show 60FPS but when i check video file, it's only 30FPS.
Install a custom ROM may be (just maybe) give you some luck but no one can guarantee that.

Lineage OS flat out doesnt support 60fps recording, not even with stock app

CM13 - 60fps video recording ?

Hi everyone,
I'm using a G900F with CM13 and my S5 cannot record video at 60fps, when selected, it still records at 30 fps.
I have tried "A better Camera" and "Open Camera", but even with 60fps selected, the framerate remains at 30 fps no matter if I choose 720p or 1080p.
I have read that certain camera-features are only available when using the stock rom and the stock camera-app because certain camera-features cannot be done using Android's standard APIs. Is this true ?
If anyone knows how to make the phone record at 60fps, I'd be grateful.
Thanks.
is universal app for all cm 13 if its not work its not ready get another app like snap
snap camera hdr supports 720p 60fps hfr recording when advanced settings, hfr mode, video snapshots, and 60fps hfr is enabled.

Yeah, you cannot image how long I was locking for this. I've tested it with 1080p although and it works great. 120fps seems not working but never mind.
You sir, made my day

Video recording does not work on Android 9.0 pie stable

I used the vpn trick to update to android pie and have magisk installed. Everything works fine, 4g wifi etc. However, I noticed in the stock camera app video recording does not work. I can take pictures both on front and rear cam. When I enabled hyperlapse or slowmo, it can record video but never when those features are not enabled. I tried installing Open Camera from playstore (an opensource camera software) and tried to record video with that app but still nothing. It says "Failed to record video". I recently also enabled camera2api and installed gcam and it can take pictures but not record video. Weird thing is that I tried capturing video on Facebook Messenger and it worked. Video recording works on messenger but not on camera apps?? Did anyone experience this or is it just me?
Try to record video without audio in Open camera. If it works, download Cinema FV camera app and try different audio codec. It happened to me on Oreo, I couldn't find the reason. Once the full ROM has been released by Xiaomi, I reflashed it and video started to work in all apps again. Maybe something went wrong during OTA update, hard to tell. All I know is that it messed up with audio codecs and I had to use another as the default one to be able to record video with sound.

Hmm you're right the problem is with the audio. I tried open camera and disabled audio and it worked. I also followed your suggestion and installed cinema fv camera app and tried all the different codecs but it still doesn't work. It works though if I disable audio completely. Maybe I'll just wait for the new security patch to come.
I just found my old post, this codec in Cinema FV worked for me when I had the recording issue - "AAC-ELD".

What camera app for video recording

Oneplus 6t has bad camera app for photos but for recording movies it's even worse.
What app for recording videos do you use?
I'm looking for an app that will have manual options like: manual focus, 24fps, exposure lock, iso, flat video recording.
I have tried Opencamera but its so bugged. It cant record 24fps on our phone and the interface is uncomfortable.
I found HedgeCam 2. It's a fork of Opencamera. It has much better interface but it also has bugs from Opencamera (no 24fps).
Is there any working app?
I really like the gcam port, also for video recording. It's smoothness during zoom in/out is very good, almost as iphone.

Possible to record 1080p at 60fps?

I recently found out that the videos I'd thought I was recording (through a GCam port) at 60fps weren't even hitting 25fps. I was using a Pie-based ROM (Validus) at the time, and since all the GCam ports have been focused on Android 10 for a while, I went ahead and flashed crdroid 6.9 along with a fairly minimal opengapps install.
On crdroid, trcamera again only hits 25fps when selecting 60fps. Same story with Open Camera under default settings. But when I switched the camera API from "original" to "Camera2," two things happened:
1. The max resolution I could set for video was now 720p
2. Videos I told it to record at 60fps would actually get captured at 76fps
So has anyone had any luck recording at 1080p/60fps on Potter (using any ROM / any app / any settings)?

Use 4K recording mode with other apps like Open Camera

I am trying to figure out if there is a way to use the 4k video recording mode with other apps like for example Open Camera.
I like this app because it has some nice features like manual focusing or locking the focus, changing some other things.
The app does have the option to enable 4k by enabling
"Force 4k UHD video(only works on some devices)" - Enable 3840x2160 resolution for video recording on back camera - this options is a hack that may allow 4K devices on 4K cameras that don't expose the option to 3rd party camera apps. This isn't guaranteed to work, please test before working

But sadly when I press record I get a message
Sorry, 4k UHD not supported on your device

Hopefully theres a workaround to use the 4K with 3rd party apps.
If anyone knows how, please let us all know.
So far I learned that many manufactures make their phones so if you use the stock app you get the best quality and everything.
But if you use third party apps, you get basic features and quality is always worse.
I was wondering if maybe rooting the phone would unlock the full capability of the camera to be used with third party apps.
So I rooted the phone finally with locked bootloader.
Sadly, still Open Camera is unable to use 4K UHD video recording.
I think for this to work you need Camera2 Api which Xperia Z2 does not have.
But there's another thing.
Cyberian camera mod 8.0 for Xperia Z2.
I installed it after rooting the phone and now I can open regular camera app and I have 4K option, and I don't even have to choose the 4K app.
Awesome.
Also, Cyberian comes with few other focusing features, maybe I can use those with 4K recordings because normal focus on 4K app is awful, constantly looks to refocus itself.
Sadly Cyberian can't lock focus but it does have single and multi auto focus, face detection, object tracking and infinity.
Will report back how those work now.
