OP5 worth rooting? - OnePlus 5 Questions & Answers

Hi guys, ill be getting my OP5 soon and i had been hesitating whether i should oem unlock and root the device, rom modding is a sure thing to do if i did root the phone but is there a way to totally flash back the phone to the original state? E.g. factory rom, factory bootloader and recovery...
Thanks

there is a switch in advanced settings which enables otg, so i presume it natively supports otg without the need of an external app..
(though i have not tested otg function myself yet..)
thus defeating your need to root?

with a custom recovery (like TWRP) and root solution (SuperSU or MagiskSU), the recovery sticks across reboots..
and the bootloader stays unlocked after flashing the official rom..

Thanks bro, appreciate ur help

hmm you guys think it is to early to flash custom Roms and wait a bit for stable builds/TWRP ?
Since alot of software updates are being pushed at OP5 the upcoming time i think

i fully agree with your suggestion...till explore the power of 1+5

OTG works just fine without root once the option is turned on in the settings. I have used it last week to transfer my SD contents to the phone.
I have tested a cheap £2 USB C OTG adaptor from ebay that works just fine and i have also tested using a Micro USB to USB C adaptor along with a USB to Micro USB adaptor that works also.

I was thinking about it just then, maybe i wont root and flash when i receive the phone, i never had an op5 before so i am eager to know what performance it has, i just hope that their tweaks for the andoid711 is what i wanted

I rooted right away so I could use some of my root apps, but I'm staying on the stock ROM for a while. They're pushing out tons of updates recently, so until the stock ROM gets most of the quirks sorted out, I'll be staying there.

Hi guys,
I come from a Nexus 5 and I've a nooby question...
If the bootloader is unlocked, the OTA updates are still ok ?
I mean, on my Nexus, with an unlocked bootloader I need to flash manualy the last update every time.
Is it the same with OnePlus ?
Thanks for your reply =)

I decided I was not going to root at first, thinking why bother, but then I got to thinking about data loss.
Let's say the phone bricks, my friend's OP3T did just that (he got it replaced no big deal). I want to be able to restore my phone to exactly the way it was either via titanium backup or nandroid backup.

NO ntfs/exfat support on SGP321

I talked with the Support to Sony, because the SGP321 formates every sdcard into the fat32 format
answer from sony:
In the LTE version is currently in effect so that only the FAT32 format is detected. But this should be changed in the future with an update.
so what can i do that other formats works?
cheers
yes pretty sad, I just got my tablet today after playing with it a few hours its pretty disappointing. Screen mirroring will disconnect wifi which make it pretty useless since i want to stream stuff online off my tablet thru Tv. Don't know if its sony's buggy software or hardware limitation. The os is pretty choppy compare to my note 2 and all this problem, wifi direct (can't transfer big files), no exfat, bad miracast support (wifi disconnect when in miracast mode), codec support pretty poor and no sub support, dunno what other problem i will find. Nice design but poor software should have stick with samsung poor design but better software right out of the box.
is theire a possibility to use xfat or nfts?
a script or so?

Won't there be a problem with the warranty after rooting the device? Will I still be able to get the firmware updates from sony? I'm not sure that I'm ready to do this when it's something that should be possible from the beginning.

Rooting won't affect your warranty, as it can be undone. What affects your warranty is unlocking the bootloader, which is something you do when you want to install a custom kernel, and an unlocked bootloader stays that way for good.

I understand, might just do that instead of returning it then. Is it safe to root the device and is the process simple? Can i update the device over the air just as i do with my unrooted galaxy s 3 phone?
Is unlocked bootloader the same as unrestricted concerning network operators? I have bought a version that works with all operators. Guess i don't need to unlock the bootloader and that i won't affect the warranty by rooting?
Thanks a lot for the help!

You can keep getting OTA updates after you root the device. Rooting it is as simple as connecting the tablet to your computer via USB and executing a file in your PC.
For further instructions you can go to DooMLoRD's Rooting Kit.

One way of unrooting is to flash a stock firmware using Flashtool. Stock firmwares can be found in the Development section, and for the Flashtool, Google will give you the link to get it. This procedore doesn't require unlocking the bootloader either.

Android 6 on Nexus 4, without pc

Hi Guys,
I've been always rooting my devices and flashing the latest roms, but since I had my nexus 4 I didn't needed to because it had the latest android already.
But now that Android 6 comes I really want it on my Nexus 4, there is just one problem; the usb connector is broken.
I've tried Kingroot, Towelroot & Framaroot, but non of them worked. Do you have any suggestions how to bring Android 6 for my devices without having to connect it to my pc?
My device:
Nexus 4, android 5.1.1
Thanks in advance,
Bas

Yeah, as you can see the parts aren't really expensive and you can easily get the screwdriver set on Amazon, there's also a lot of breakdown videos on YouTube showing you how.
e.g.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUVSmsFLqQg
Although, to be honest if you manage to get your phone rooted you can actually apply a recovery using the Flashify app.

Yes getting root is the problem. The apps that could root my device need recovery and the apps that could flash a recovery need root access.

Custom-ish ROM (Possible TWRP/ROOT) for J327T1(?)

I have compiled for you an Odin-Flashable downgrade to original Nougat ROM.
Does NOT have Google FRP in this version (the ROM came stock this way; unmodified), this is useful if you forgot your Google email.
Download Odin3 and the .tar file HERE
- Open Odin v3.12.7
- Plug in phone to PC
- Simply boot into download mode (Powered off- Hold HOME+POWER+VOLUME DOWN)
- Click AP
- Select J327T1.tar
- Click Start
Once it finished it will reboot and update. It is going to get stuck on 32%, do not worry.
It will take a second, but the recovery menu will pop up. Select Reboot System and it will take some time to get to the OS but you will eventually have Nougat pop up and ready to go!
Enjoy!
*UPDATE*
In the download links I have the "Factory Binary" Custom ROM. It's pretty useful in messing with the phone software, although I do not know the specific use. Use the same method above to install the ROM.
Also, I do believe you can edit the .tar and add TWRP by downloading the recovery.img from my link and replacing it in the .tar and following the same steps. I have not tested because I was helping my brother access his phone because he forgot his Google account after he reset his phone.

Ok so its not truly the factory binary, its an emulator of that, meaning any changes were not flashed over as in other devices. but i have been thinking and, i'll post this in the original as well, magisk....only works if you completely wipe the device first, same with custom roms, i never tried that when i had the j3, bricks be damned we got odin3 and i got scripts to get outta brick an into download.
if someone would be ao kind as to factory reset and tr installing twrp, that wuld be amazing, i have been working with the note 4 sprint variant and there are a few steps in installng custom roms that we were over looking

Only way I can help you is by telling you go buy yourself a PC if you're going to start routing and or developing the firmware on Android devices it is extremely hard nearly impossible these days with Android devices running version Android 6.0 and up to root without a PC the best and easiest way I've found to root a Android device is to First install a custom recovery like TWR p or ClockworkMod and have a unlocked bootloader then from there you can easily download SuperSU and Flash it with a firmware flashing application like ClockworkMod ROM manager that is downloadable on Play Store what I'm trying to say is if you are using kingroot or kingoroot you're going to be hitting that button 4 million years and nothing will happen either by an Android that has a lower version like any version below 5.0 or get yourself a computer and do some research because it is very easy to do the stuff as long as you know what you're doing if you don't it seems way more complicated than it actually is you're in the right place here on XDA to learn everything you need to know so you're off to a great start I hope this helps have a good one good luck
So is there no way we can downgrade further to a firmware that includes the developer option to oem unlock?... I'm about to try and flash what the op posted right now... I'll post results

Any developers still working on this device?

As the title says I am here looking to see if any developers are still working for this device? I am a wanna be developer tbh and I've decided to start on this device since there is little to no ROMs or Kernels for this device. If you are a developer that has this device please DM me! Looking forward to see what the future holds for this amazing device.
Please develop for this device. It's still relevant in in the tablet game in 2018 and is still being sold in the market.

USB debugging, yes. OEM unlock, greyed out.
I gave the wrong info. There is no OEM lock option on this sm-t378v. I was thinking of my pixel 2 xl... which is also still locked thanks to verizons mid cycle security patch. But, I digress, I'm working on my Galaxy Tab E Sm-t378v (verizon). I've tried using Odin but, I ran into this "secure download mode" which seems to prohibit Odin's communication. Any help would be appreciated.
I see by your signature that you own a SM-T560NU. That means you would only make roms for this model, right?

getting bootloader code hash?

Yes but don't know how to get the bootloader code
Downgrade as low as possible and give it a try.
haexhub/huaweiBootloaderHack: Huawei-unlock-bootloader (github.com)
Edit:
First Download This -> SkyEmie/huawei-honor-unlock-bootloader: A simple tool for managing Huawei/Honor devices to unlock bootloader (github.com)
then grab unlock.py from haexhub and replace it. Then its a 'All-in-One Package' - no need to install anything.

THANKS A LOT M8!!!!!!!!!!!
I've started the program but i am just curious how many different codes/how many attempts can there be in total?
Thats a good question, im sure u can find the answer in one of the 2 repos. One is endless (pure bruteforce) vs IMEI + HASH.
I'm still too lazy to Downgrade my Phone to give it a try (with out rebooting every 4 attempts), because no clue if its worth all the effort, as Huawei modding / hacking seems like almost dead.

Ok thanks I've started the brute force the day same as u shared the github links and it's still on attempt around 97k so I'am still trying...
But do u know if it's possible to copy the WHOLE boot partition without unlocking bootloader?
Oh wow! Didnt expect that it might take this long.
And no, sorry. But i doubt that its possible, otherwise some sneaky hackers would found that gloryhole already.

Only Paid atm, and only P20(Pro).
There is free method, your devices are on the list and can be unlocked. See my post.

I have just successfully unlocked the bootloader lock by the Taobao service CNY30. It is done by PC remote control. My P10 phone (VTR-AL00) was firstly downgraded from my EMUI 9.1 to EMUI 5. Then the operation was very fast (ROM firmware loading time was long) & I can't see clearly. At last it was successfully unlocked & the guy gave me the unlock code also. If you guys want to do this, you need to ask a friend who know Chinese writing to chat on the net. Then I upgraded the phone using Huawei official upgrade from the phone to EMUI 9.0. Then I flashed the openkirin ROMs successfully. I've tried all four ROMs (RR, OMNI, AOSP, AEX). All of them have some bugs. One important one is the phone can't be charged when powered off. It will go to bootloader mode when plugged with the charging cable. You need to charge when the phone is on.
Install testpoint drivers ( https://files.dc-unlocker.com/share.html?v=share/18B15B9D02C945A79B1967234CECB423 - these worked for my p10 lite), enter download mode via testpoints then use PotatoNV - https://github.com/mashed-potatoes/PotatoNV , i just did this two days ago then installed twrp and rooted with magisk, fairly simple and insanely useful, only drawback is you need to open up your phone back cover to do it. Works without downgrading on Emui 8
THANKS GUYS FOR ALL YOUR HELP AND SUPPORT <3
I've succesfully opened my phone with dc unlocker
You may want to try the testpoint method. Worked like charm for me. Check potatonv git and YouTube..
Once we find the code, bootlocker unlocking factory reset it?
