Screen stops working sometimes please help - Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo Questions & Answers

A friend of mine has a samsung s5 neo and the screen just goes black sometimes and wont turn back on unless its turned off and on by pulling the battery and sometimes there have been blue horizontel lines going across the screen but other times the screen is working perfectly.
Software is up to date and will be trying a new battery tomorrow but id like to know some professional opinions here in the forums.

Hardware fault

Hi all,
Wished that, for a first post in this forum, I would post something useful. But no, what I'm posting is probably the first user having a screen gone bad.
In the beginning, it happened when the battery went below around 50% and the brightness started going higher and higher to the point where the screen was completely white washed. Recently, the screen went to some kind of green colour taking over the whole screen (see pic attached).
The other phone functions work fine: sound, buttons, happtic feedback. Only the screen decided to die on me.
After multiple FW restores using different versions and only getting worse, I finally decided to call it a day and I will send it to Samsung Belgium for repair.
Hope that I just caught a bad one and that the Super AMOLED technology can survive time.
that is a weird problem, from the first description it sounded like if it got wet and it got damaged by the moisture trapped inside.
but it could simply be a defective screen.
when the screen is off, does it goes back to full BLACK?
or does it stays in that LCD like green/greyish colour?
Phone never went near water or humidity.
Yes, it goes to full black when off and the more it's off, the longer the screen hangs to its original "colours". Well, it used to but now it's worse.
Hi There,
I have problem with the i9000 screen too. Yesterday the screen brigtness suddenly gone up and the main problem is a lot of obvious color banding where things should gradient out smoothly. It looks like it is not having enough color depth, just like lowering your graphic card setting in Windows to 8 bit color or something.
Searching for stock ROM to flash back before I take it for replacement. Don't have much luck with the ROM so far.
Good luck with yours by the way.
Cheers,
It seems that you have the same symptoms that I have.
The only problem I'm having now is that the phone went back to normal after not using it for the last few days. Let's see how Samsung deals with this...
I've had a similar problem and sent it back for repair, as it became permanent after 2 weeks from the time I first noticed it.
Please look at my post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7652167&postcount=8
and see if it is similar to your issue.
It's now in samsung's lab or something, so in the coming days they should tell me what's the matter with it and how it should be fixed.
Sent mine to Samsung a couple of days ago for repair.
Any news on yours?
So I finally received my phone back from the repair shop and after glancing over the repair report, I came to the conclusion that I had lost the first fight with warranty claims: they did a firmware upgrade !! They upgraded my "old" firmware to a mind-blowing future one: JM2 !!!
After two days, the phone decided to act up again showing the same symptoms as before. In order not to loose the second fight, I decided to go there myself instead of sending it through mail. Being a 45 minutes car hike, I decided first to make sure that the phone was indeed showing the problems initially reported. After some minutes playing with it in front of the desk clerk, he finally admitted that it had to be a hardware problem.
So now the waiting game begins...In the meanwhile, I'm using a Nokia E71 which, while competent enough for my basic needs, it is NOT a Galaxy S. Crap !
To finally close this chapter I received my phone 2 days ago and after a Lcd screen replacement it seems now that the problem is finally solved.

glad to hear everything checked out correctly, I presume everything fell under your warranty?, i got the same outlines around the circle but they are very very faint as I can only see them when i hold the device in direct sunlight at a certain angle so I suppose you're not the only one.
When you say LCD screen are you merely making a mistake or did they actually replace your AMOLED screen with an LCD?
If they actually did that, it doesn't seem like a very good deal...

Just took the Dutch description on the repair report. To my knowledge, Galaxy S phones only come with AMOLED screens.

Help - Screen Black

Good night ... I bought my nexus 04/01/2013 4 days and yesterday I noticed that when I make or receive a call the screen turns completely black it ... when the connection is closed it back up and running, it is not a matter of sensor because I do not take the device to the ear.
Has anyone had a similar problem? I'm from Brazil and I am sending the device back for warranty ... If anyone knows what might be available to get.
Remove your screen protector.

I test without the film that was recently placed ... worked perfectly.
Thank you.
You're welcome

Do you get screen interference using GSM data on white webpages?

I noticed the other day when using my data and browsing the net that I get interference(screen flickering) on white webpages.
I first noticed on Google search page.
And it seems it's only on GSM.
Can people test this for me please so I can tell if I have a faulty unit.
Thank you

As it only happens for me on low signal I can't show the guy in the store as it doesn't happen!
So that's why Im turning to people on here to see if it is common.
Does no one else notice this problem?

that has been fixed on MEA build. i used to get that flickering too it actually happens when you calls up the keyboard on a white background at a lower brightness

No its completely different to that flickering.
I know you're talking about mine does that too.
But the issue I'm getting is the screen kind of flickering and shimmering for a few seconds on white Web page when 2G/GSM data is on. I can literally sit there watching it flickering away then as soon as I turn data off it stops.
It doesn't do it when using 3G or Wifi though, it's so weird!

hiii,
i am having this same issue.I have network mode on gsm only. My screen flickers after evry few minutes whenever i am using data network mode.I dont know if this is due to low signal. But when i switch to wifi or turnoff data network, the problem goes away. It is extremely noticeable on white bakcgrounds. When i noticed very carefully i saw the black screen which appears when we close the s view cover(the time and date screen).
This type of screen is flashed for only a fraction of second. this is really annoying

You have a faulty handset. I ended up taking mine back and getting a replacement, no more flicker on GSM!
I spoke to a technician about it and he said that when there is low signal the phone draws more from the battery to boost signal, if the screen is flickering he said that there isn't enough power getting to the screen.
I tried a new battery and it kept happening.
I would suggest taking your phone back for replacement as it shouldn't flicker and you have a faulty device .

hiii,
may i know how old was your device when you took it back for replacement. This was the last thing i had wanted to do.I have been there at the service centre already so many times earlier for screen replacement. They are not at all cooperative and doesnt even know the right thing to do.
They had installed a faulty lcd screen on my device.I dont know how will i be ever able to convince them about this problem!!
p.s. i noticed that this doesnt only happen when on low signals. it can happen anytime even on full signals.i mean it does take a few minutes before the next flicker but is very annoying

My S4 was 10 days old when I took it back for replacement.
I had also had many previous replacements before this one, all because of screen issues.
My current phone still has problems!! It has 2 grey stripes across the screen at low brightness, green tint down the left hand side and a broken power button!
I'm just sticking with this one now because Samsung, in my opinion, have really f***ed up on the S4. It was made cheaply, quickly and with only profit in mind. There's no such thing as a perfect S4, well I haven't been lucky anyway!

i share your opinion. their device has got so many faults which was really unexpexcted from samsung.
however today i went to the service centre once again...all the technicians were astonished to watch me there once again ...they couldnt understand the problem with the device and have submitted it for further testing by higher technician...i doubt their efficiency....they have asked me to wait for a day to hear a reply from them!!

[Q] Galaxy S4 completely dead?

The Galaxy S4 of a friend of mine fell some time ago, but still worked perfectly after the drop.
After a few days the phone died.
The S4 doesn't boot and doesn't show charging logo when connected to power.
I also tried putting another battery in it and I checked the insides. (nothing out of the ordinary)
Does someone know what's wrong with the phone or what steps I can take?

Samsung Galaxy S5 Screen-Malfunction?

Hello, I have a problem with my Samsung Galaxy S5 and hope someone can provide a decent answer.
So, I'm really clumsy and I dropped my phone on the floor, and then it started acting up. At first the screen would just be black when I pressed the home-button or the on/off-button, but it would still be "active" in the sense that I could touch the screen and feel the vibration of touching a letter or so. Then I switched it off and on again, and the screen would light up with the SAMSUNG Logo but then go dark, and when I kind of "pressed" the phone together, the screen came back, but then if I accidently pressed the on/off-button to lock the screen it wouldn't come back on again. And now the phone has gone to a whole new level of ****ed up, because now when I turn it on and given that the screen works, my phone is playing the Star Wars intro but a lot faster. Not literally the Star Wars intro, but the screen is kind of flowing upwards and then it duplicates from the bottom and it just keeps going faster and faster.
What can I do?

Get your screen repaired, sounds like a connector is broken or loose.
