Samsung Galaxy J3 Emerge-". . . the process com.android.phone has stopped." - Samsung Galaxy J3 (2016) Questions & Answers

Hello:
I am really, hoping you can help me out here. The title says pretty much all of it, or at least that is what the pop-up notification tells me, constantly, "Unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped.". This is my daughter's phone (she is 13), and I have no idea what she did, if anything. I, do know attempting to update the PRL offers these instructions to, "Power off and insert the UICC that came with the device, and then Power on."
Does this mean to unlock the UICC card, remove and reinstall it? I am not sure if that little white (?) card next to the battery is the right card. The phone started acting strange about 3-4 days ago, connectivity problems, battery not holding a charge, and then the ever-persistent pop-up. I am hard wired, and would think the much faster Wi-fi she has access to at home, or her unlimited 4G (LTE) would prevent connectivity problems especially, since everything is working fine for me. Long story, longer the phone is useless at this point.
What simple fix am I missing, or is there one? Please, do not tell me to I have to call Sprint Tech Support. . . "I don' wanna." It ends up being time consuming, helpful, but time consuming, nonetheless.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Me, again. I was just wondering if receiving no replies after four days is an indication of me doing something wrong, my issue is not, really, an issue, does not make sense, unknown, or a matter of me being impatient. I am clueless, here, and do not know what to do. I am going to rely on my "common sense," and conclude it is a battery issue possibly, shorting out causing the system to not recognize the UICC card. Whether, or not it is the problem hopes insurance covers the battery (if the warranty does not), and let Sprint resolve it at the least amount of cost (to them). Heavy sigh, but it is what it is.
Thanks for having this site. I found out some information about Androids not known before reading other posts. :good:

HTC Elf crashes when accessing the SIM

Hi there,
I have this strange problem with my HTC Elf. The problem existed with the original ROM (5.0) and after my upgrade to 6.5 as well.
It started once a Month, but now it's twice a day.
If i receive or make a call, receive or send a SMS the device just shuts down immediately. (like a hard reset).
The device then automatically starts up, i get the "Smart mobility" screen and then it starts over again. The boot cycle runs endless, until i remove the battery and start again. Sometimes i need to remove/replace the battery 3 or 4 times to get it booting up again. (Doing this booting drains a lot of battery power)
If i remove the SIM Card, everything works fine for hours and booting isn't a problem at all. So I believe accessing the SIM Card somehow craps the device out. The boot-cycle seems to happen in the last stage of booting, when the device first tries to access the SIM card. (That's something i have to suspect, cause there is no way to log the booting).
I don't believe that it's connected to the ROM Upgrade to 6.5 i did, as the problem happened in 5.0 as well... (btw. everything is much faster and more light-weight since the 6.5 upgrade. It's just great.)
Here are my questions:
- Is there something, I could log the boot process, to see what's the last action when it starts over again?
- Is there something like an event log in windows, where I see the last action or even failure / exception, before the device restarts while doing a call / writing an SMS?
- Did anyone see this happen before?
Thanks for any input!
Hi
Have you tried to change the Sim card or use another one just in case the sim is the problem?
Hi Tito,
I plan to swap SIM's next weekend. But i don't get how a SIM can crash the whole thing. I would understand getting errors like "Can't read SIM" but auto-resetting the whole device?
Anyhow, I'll post an update after trying another SIM. The whole thing is, that it's not reproducible by a specific action one could take. So if the device keeps up even for 2 days with a spare SIM - that doesn't mean the SIM's chip is the problem. Just an indication...
Thanks,
mc
Hi
Please do post the result
I had the same problem (endless reboot) on my Elf. I solved it by replacing the battery.
Hi,
well it's like always. If you need the problem, you cannot reproduce it.
The device wasn't crashing even once on the weekend.. Either with my own SIM or with another one.
The battery thing is interesting. As soon, as the problems start reoccurring, I've got now a spare SIM card to test. If this fails, I'm able to test with another battery in march.
I'll post any results.
thanks,
mc
I have the same problem...and also struggles to find a signal. Did you solve the problem yet?
same problem
I have the same problem and !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
well, the thing is i upgraded to the HD2 and didn't use my elf pretty much lately.
I changed my provider and got a new SIM but that didn't solve the issue. So I can exclude the fault being in the ROM or the SIM card.
When the elf was crashing I couldn't start it up. It was booting, and as soon as it tried to register itself in the Network, it crashed again. However, when connecting it to a power source (charger or pc) and booting it up, it went fine through and was able to register in the network.
That brings me to the idea, the even if the battery is full at 100% it might have a flaw and doesn't bring enough energy, when the device is scanning for the available networks.
So next time, I'm in china, I'll get a new battery pack for my elf - however, it's no more that important as my HD2 is running pretty fine.
Hope it's something which can help you.
cheers,
mc

My Omnia 7 keeps loosing it's 3G connection

My Omnia 7 keeps loosing it's 3G connection. To restore it I have to restart the phone. T-Mobile say that this happens from time to time, but it's happening every day now. It's annoying as it stops my push email from being up to date, and of course prevents the use of any internet based services until the phone is restarted.
Has anyone else noticed their phone has switching to GSM?
Had mine for 6 days.Been fine up until today, then I had the same problem.Only the once so far.
Confirm loosing 3G
Confirm loosing 3G connection, and also have phone call failures.
Factory reset did not solve the problem.
Bring it back to shop
Blackstone is back now!
At first this was occasional with my phone, then more frequent, and it's all the time. If I want to use the Internet I have to restart the phone. My house is covered by full HSPA, but the only way to get it is to take the battery out while the phone is switched on. I can sometimes get 3G by a simple restart, which I lasts about 40 minutes.
I like the phone, so I'm going to hold out for a software update. All it needs to do is check available networks and I think that, if this is a wide spread issue, Samsung/Microsoft will fix it. Hope so.
Please post here if you have this issue too.
I have also been having this issue... sometimes it doesnt come back straight away when i restart it but after about 10mins its back.
When I activated it with orange I was told to expect a few txt msg's that would need deleting and the phone restarting... I only got 1 msg, maybe this has something to do with it, maybe the phone hasnt been sent enough updates.
I also have this issue and have done for weeks. Orange couldn't solve it either.
It only happens overnight at home. I either need to reset the phone / rescan available networks or turn flight mode off and on again for the connection to restore.
I was thinking it may be an issue with t-mobile since it only happens at my home where orange signal is poor and i roam over to t-mobile.
If i stay in an area with good Orange signal i don't get the problem.
Good to know i'm not the only one with this problem. It's very annoying!
Hi y'all.
I had the same problem: 3G was lost every time. I was fed up restarting the phone every time, so I looked for another way to get 3G back. I found out that disabling and enabling SIM security (phone > setttings) got me 3G again... for a short while.
But: after disabling SIM security permanently, 3G kept on going (in fact for over a week now).
I think that changing the PIN to some other number, might cause this. I haven't yet tried changing it to the default PIN again, to see if using that for SIM security solves it. For the moment I'm too happy it works again.
I have suffered from poor reception issues ever since I got my Omnia 7.
It seems like the reception comes and goes. I will receive e-mails, which proves that the phone has been connected, but as soon as I try to use data myself, by visiting a web page or refreshing an app like facebook, the reception disappears and the "no reception" symbol drops down from the status bar.
Also, often when I try to send an SMS, it will appear to have been sent, yet 10 minutes later I will receive a "Can't send...try again" message. Once I have received this, the SMS will never successfully send. However, in the meantime I can receive SMS messages, which shows that the phone has been getting a signal.
This is SO frustrating and is ruining my experience with the phone.
I have posted requests on the Microsoft Answers forum and the only suggestions have been to reset the phone or turn WiFi off. Neither of these have had any effect. I have never enabled SIM lock.
I have heard that there is a firmware update due soon which includes a new radio stack. I am desperately hoping that this will improve the situation, as at the moment I cannot rely on my Omnia 7 as my only phone.
Alex.
Hi Loco,
You are right in saying that social answers doesn't really help much .
Luckily there IS a new firmware from a couple of days ago! Check out the Omnia 7 Dev section. There are only a few posts.
And here is also a good link for you. You are right to assume that it comes with a new radio stack which improves on performance.

Finally found a thread on this... I have been having a similar problem since I got my phone from Optus here in Australia. I took it back and they replaced it for me but the new phone is exactly the same. I don't lose the 3G icon but anything data related just ceases from loading. Right now I'm trying to refresh the Facebook app and it just comes up with 'Unable to connect', even though I have full 3G reception.
I flashed it to the newer leaked firmware and it hasn't changed anything, problem still persists unfortunately. This is a major problem that isn't getting enough attention! It seems quite widespread and Omnia 7 specific.
Had similar problems, but after I changed my provider ( O2-Germany), 3G is stable.
For the people having this problem, have you tried setting the phone to prefer 3g? Details of how to do this are here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=915813

Same here man. On Optus and my reception sucks with this device. What the hell is samsung doing? FIX IT!
I have been having this problem with my Omnia 7. The frustrating thing is this is a replacement phone I had for an LG which I had replaced THREE TIMES due to random resets. So now I have a phone that I have to turn off and on EVERY MORNING in order for the data connection to start working again. Needless to say I am very frustrated. I am on Orange in the UK. I suspect it could be related to when being an a poor reception area and it tries to switch to tmobile. I am going to try turning roaming off. Please, if anyone finds a solution to this let me know.
Thanks

My problem got worse with the Mango update. I'm now on my 2nd handset after having a replacement from Orange warranty. This one still loses it's connection but much less frequently.
TBH i don't think it will ever get fixed. I started an MS Answers thread months ago and lots of people had the same problem but we never got a response from MS.
Conisdering the age of the model now I doubt Samsung care, well they didn't seem to care a year ago so they won't now... For this reason I will not buy another Samsung phone. It's infuriating.
Looks like I am stuck with it until December then when I can upgrade to a Nokia lumia. A long wait :-(
i have this issue, too.. but for me i only have to set airplane mode on and off. sometimes i deactivate data connection, go to a random website, get the 'no connection' error, then activate data connection back and it works.
however, after installing the latest drivers & firmware, i get this issue A LOT less frequent. like once in 2-3 days.
i hope ms or samsung will fix this because it can get really annoying. especially when you need eg. a quick google-search..
Just flicking the flight mode wouldn't be so bad but that doesn't work for me, I have to restart the phone each time. I love WP7 but this and the other problems with the LG is driving me nuts. Almost wondering whether I should have just followed the crowd and gone for an iPhone.

Same as me - Flicking flight mode on-off doesn't solve it, needs a soft-reset.
Like I say, there are quite a few with Omnias on Orange with this problem.
I'm in the same boat, I've had this for months now so I guess I'll just deal with it until I can upgrade the start of April and get a Lumia (hopefully the EU 900/910 will be here by then!). There is no way on this earth Samsung are getting any more of my money. Nokia seem fully commited so they can take my cash next time!
I have the same problem with the data stopping working on o2 in the UK. But I also sometimes cant receive calls even though the phone has service, then there are the times where it site there going GPRS/3G/3G+/No Service and you cant do anything with it apart from pull the battery.

Windowsbreak/interop unlock seems to have killed my phone

Ever since unlocking my phone, I have been experiencing very troublesome issues. It all started with picture messages not going through and giving me "Can't Send Message. Try Again." Then pictures that I received started coming in as "Media content in this message" that never downloads. I tried showing this to a friend of mine that also has WP7, but of course the image sent. That is literally the only picture I have been able to send in the past two weeks.
Nothing seems to affect it as far as battery percentage, signal strength, Wi-Fi connectivity, or anything.
Websites are also having a lot of trouble loading. Most won't load unless I let the loading bar get to about 90%, then re-enter the address. I also get a lot of "We're having trouble viewing this page right now" messages. Very frustrating.
The Marketplace has been having trouble loading at times as well.
Some apps and games that require internet connections are having spotty issues. Sometimes USA Today won't load any news. Words By Post gives me network connection errors. 4th and Mayor sometimes tells me I have no connection to location services.
All of this is really starting to frustrate me. I can't figure out what is going wrong. The only thing I can think of is that I Windowsbreak/interop unlocked my phone around the same time I started having issues. All I've installed is a battery percentage meter, a screenshot app, AdvancedConfig to change my themes and get rid of app dehydration, and WP7 Root Tools so I could get the 8107 update.
PLEASE, someone help me.
and for reference, I have a Samsung Focus with 8107 on it.
Oh and another issue, sometimes my phone goes through HUGE lag phases where scrolling through menus is incredibly choppy and slow. The only way to fix it is to lock the device and let it rest for a minute.
I may try and get video evidence of this.
I would do a hard reset and see how it works and then slowly proceed with unlocks/homebrews again one step at a time and make sure your phone works well before going the next step. And, make a back-up each time so you can go back one step if you find the one that messes up.
Never try to change and hack everything at once; errors can occur.
Ehh I'm really not trying to do a hard reset just yet...I'm hoping there is some magical solution to this.
SD Card?
Have you an SD Card installed and how much of it is used? Like you, I would do everything short of a hard reset to solve this problem.
No sir, no SD card has been installed into this phone. I learned my lesson after having to get a replacement when I got an irreversible card read error on my last Focus.
That being said, this is a refurbished device.

Some users were having data issues after windowbreaking. There is a fix in the thread and it's quite simple iirc. Ask in the thread.
edit: try this too

Well, after failed attempts at fixing this, and even working with Heathcliff on a solution, I decided to hard reset.
Re-unlocked my phone and installed AdvancedConfig. So far everything seems ok.
I know that it resets to release 5 instead of 6 which could lessen your data , but it is easily fixed in diagnostics :
*#32489#
back 1 time
NAS CONTROL
[5] RRC(HSPA) CONTROL
1 TO DISPLAY mine read release 5 after windowbreak
I then changed it back to release 6
you might also have dualmode turned off, turn it on for better perfomance
if you used heathcliffs interop did you also go to *#94765# auto sim config?
If all else fails talk Jax he made windowbreak!

[Q] SM-N900V Constant Reboots, Inconsistent Detecting Sim, Process System Errors, etc

Hello all,
I've read and searched through a few posts before posting this, and it seems there has not been one consistent solution offered that is a guaranteed fix. And no problems that have been solved like this in the past 6 months or more that I saw.
About 10 days ago my Note 3 started doing all kinds of crazy crap. It would:
Boot up with a yellow exclamation point and says Verizon Wireless had detected unauthorized software on my device. In the top corner it would say secure fail: modem. This almost always went away with just another reboot of the phone.
Boot up with a splash screen that normally just says Samsung Galaxy Note 3, but now also has an unlocked padlock and "Custom" on the screen.
Extremely intermittently recognize that I had a sim in my phone and provision my phone on the 4g network.
Not allowi a significant amount of internet activity even when connected to wifi.
Pop up an error box upon entering the OS saying that there was a process system error and ask me to wait or kill the process.
Random unrequested reboots of my phone without even touching it. (this has happened 7 times now through the course of typing this post)
Also a problem, though not a recent development, is a common complaint that there has been significant difficulty in placing clear phone calls even though signal strength looks good, sometimes resulting in attempts to dial timing out without making a connection.
As a bit of background: I've never rooted this phone. Years ago I sold smartphones for a living and I knew how much of bastards Verizon et. al. were when it came to providing hardware warranty coverage to people who had rooted their devices. Having said that, I have no idea why I just randomly started seeing an unlocked padlock and a callout for a custom OS on the boot up splash screen. Also, I've already gone to verizon and replaced the sim just in case it was a defective chip causing these problems. There have been no significant changes, though it does seem that the intermittent rate at which the phone actually finds the network happens a little more often with a new sim. Maybe that's just my wishful thinking that my situation has improved.
Other things I've tried for troubleshooting already:
Booted into recovery mode, wiped cache, rebooted.
Booted into recovery mode, wiped and factory reset the phone from the on board restore software.
Downloaded Kies and booted into download mode on the device and pushed the current OS image to my phone.
Tried some silly battery trick that some guy made a youtube video about where he suggests pulling the battery, pressing the power button for a few seconds, then putting the battery back in will fix the problem.
This phone is out of warranty now, so I'm not opposed to trying a rooting solution to fix it -- if that is even plausible. I also downloaded a 1.6GB zip that is supposed to contain an image of the LP OS (N900VVRUEOF1_N900VVZWEOF1_VZW.zip), but have not done anything with it yet. My only concern with trying to wipe out the stock OS is that I've never attempted it before and don't want to F it up, although at this point could it get much worse??
Cosmetically this phone is in perfect condition. I'm not a phone dropper, and it has been in an otterbox defender case since the day I got it. I bought this phone outright in 2013 so that I could preserve my unlimited data plan, so I'm really hoping there is a potential solution here that does not involve buying a new phone.
Any suggestions you can offer would be great. Like I said, I did some keyword searching on this form and read a few threads before posting, but it seemed like there were a bunch of different theories on how to fix this problem and no consistent solution.
Thanks!

Sim error - randomly losing connection

Hi, I've been looking through the forum and Googled for about a day and I'm still none the wiser, I have even contacted the Sim card provider in order to see what it is, I'm going in tomorrow to test my Sim to make sure it's not the Sim.
But I'm afraid it might be hardware failure. I'm just really really reaaaaally wishing that it's not. I just got this phone second hand because my other one was breaking.
I'm hoping that maybe, it's a software issue.
My problem is that every once in a while, at random it seems, I partially lose connectivity and it will only allow me to make emergency calls, then to suddenly, also at random, it reconnects as if nothing has happened. It'd be manageable and all that, even if it's a nuisance, but, it has started affecting my texts that I send and receive. I am losing a lot of texts, or getting them hours later and they're not at all in order.
It's incredibly frustrating and I'd love some help.
I'm running CM13 on it with the kernel that came with the ROM. I have TWRP on there too.
What could be wrong and how would I solve it?
I am attaching some screenshots on my system to show you more exactly what I'm running in terms of kernel and ROM.
If there's any more information I could provide to solve this, then please just say so.
