Anyone used XtremeSkins before? - OnePlus 5 Questions & Answers

I am thinking of getting a skin for my OP5 (black is kind of boring...) I looked at dbrand, but then come across xtremeskins - I like their color better... (I am planning for an Eva-01 color scheme from Neo Evangelion, sorry anime fans...) Any one has experience with Xtremeskins? Good/Bad?
Thanks!

I've used them loads of times they have great customer service and fast dispatch times. The skins themselves I can't fault at all they could use some new ones but thats just my issue of how many I bought lol
Oh and I will say the one major issue with them compared to the likes of Dbrand is you have to pop out all the cut out ports yourself. they're cut into the skin already but not taken out for you and it can be a little annoying at times.

Yeah - used a few times. Decent skins. Price has slowly come up tho :~(

Its all the same stuff. 3M car vinyls with no grip. Some have the ability to print custom designs on them (like car wraps). Really it all comes down to how precise the cut is, or how forgiving per say, from manufacturer to manufacturer.
This Affriction guy I keep hearing about though... got mad at all of those guys and created one himself that offers grip. I think he put post up in this section. He even discounted for xda peeps... cause he is also one of them.
Shameless plug,
Affriction.

Yup used them twice now, can't really fault the quality nor the ship time. Especially for me since I'm UK based and their a UK based company. Far quicker than getting anything from dBrand or Slickwraps. If it helps here's my most recent video of the S8 skin I had from them:

Yep used them one time, were definitely of high quality! Had a slight issue with mine where the skin was slightly torn, contacted support and they went above and beyond to help me out. New skin they sent out was perfect! Definitely my go to skin company

I've just ordered one 30% discount with code ONEPLUS30

Yep got one on my phone now. Not as good as dbrand but not far off and much quicker if you're in the UK. Cheeper too.

Seen them around. Look good. Can't comment on how long they last though.

I took mine off, dbrand lasted ok on a very tight case, this one did not..great they're in the UK but man wish I'd not bothered.
Also Im quite used to fitting these, have done hundreds of them. Fitting was perfect, heat was taken from hairdryer quite well (Dyson) just couldn't take a case.
Shame.

Thanks for letting us know, one of my first times hearing about Xtremeskins quality since I got the op5 so pretty interested to see if they kept it up or not

I'm using matte black back skin. Was really easy to apply, fits perfectly. Feels like really good quality

Out of curiosity, what's the point of applying a skin when you have a case? I mean, I've ordered an Xtremeskin and a DBrand skin (Leather and Dragon) but now that I received the Karbon Bumper case, I find it so lovely and classy and beautiful and... that I don't see why I would not keep my phone in it... I think my O+5 is safe in the case, so...

Well if you have a case that covers 100 percent then the only reason would be so you can take it off and retain some protection.
Or if you don't have 100 percent cover, like the rhinoshield, the back of your phone will be open.
This set up sees to that.

but it's just a skin, it doesn't protect the phone, except from scratches, right? I mean, skin or no skin, the phone falls, either you're lucky or you're not, correct? The case adds a little to your lucky spirit, that's my point.

You've misunderstood me..
I'm extremely careful with my devices, so if I'm the office then I will mostly just use the skin as the chances of dropping it are pretty much zero.
But, if I'm going on a night out or I'm out doing something more active then I'll use a case.
The benefit to having a skin is cosmetic yes, it'll offer little to no protection against drops.
But in the case of bumpers it will save the back of the device against scratches.

Once my phone is in a case I like, then I don't see the point of removing it. The Karbon Bumper case looks so cool, totally in love with it now
I might try one of the skin I have, but...
Damn, I also really like the matte black one from Xtremes.

Anker Glaze Minimalistic Case

I just wanted to make a quick post to show some pictures of the new case that I got in today. I just couldn't find a whole lot of post about cases and none about this one specifically.
I'll use it for a few days to go into further detail about day to day use.
First impressions are great due to the overall look and feel of the case.
It has an awesome texture that feels like very fine sandpaper that's been used and is now smooth if that makes any sense. It also fits perfectly with a very durable and tight fit. It doesn't feel like its going to fall off or wear and lose form but only time will tell.
It also has an open top and bottom which I love simply because I can use my Audio Technica headphones again without having to take my case off every time I want to listen to music. I would love to have a closed top and bottom that also fits the headohone jack but that wishful thinking as I've yet to come across one that does.
The color is great but not the same as the picture on Amazon. It's much darker in person which isn't a bad thing just not what I expected. Even still I'm glad that I got to get a colorful case as I missed out on the Cyber Monday Moto Maker deal and had to settle for a woven white TMO Moto X. Not complaining, just kind of bummed I didn't get my custom paint job. This case is a nice alternative.
I also like that the Anker branding on the back isn't tacky and huge. Most case makers need to take a note and not slap their ugly logo or lame name all over the case and if they want too then at least make it small like Anker did. Keep it simple.
That's all I can really say at this point but will update later after a few days of use.
Here's the link in case you want to snag on for yourself:

Yeah the color looks nothing like yours. I have a case just like it but mine is from bear motion. It had more colors to choose from. I bought a gray and red/brown. I will probably get a green one soon. Very nice cases.
Yeah, I saw the Bear Motion cases after I had already placed my order. No big deal though because I love the blue color of the Anker. How have the cases held up over time? They seem really durable.

Just got my black BearMotion case which is pretty much the same thing as this, and the feel is great. I have a White Woven back and it was hella slippery. This case helps a ton, is very minimal, thin, and feels great in the hands.

I actually just got them yesterday, so unsure how they will hold up. The blue looks great, I will probably purchase one in that color too. Well as long as my wife lets me. lol
These are available on ebay with no branding. I've got a black one it's nice. There's also a frosted clear case, with same form factor, which is the best case ever. Love how slim these are, and how they don't interfere with front of phone at all. Do wish they covered top and bottom though.

New Galaxy S6 Edge Renders

looks much better in black than in white, not sure about the protruding home button and camera though

This one looks way better than the white one we've seen so far!
As for the camera and homebutton ... this is a piece you shouldn't carry around without a case, so that will be no problem to me.

I'll never understand this logic. Why do you are what it'll look like if you'll stick it in a case anyway?

kind of like those people that buy those cases like otter box,etc that increase the phone size by 3-5 times. i can understand if you work in construction and the like, but most people aren't construction workers.
only good thing about these kind of users is they preserve it for the person that buys them used lol.. they never really get to enjoy the full glorious phone. on my S4 i have a spigen neo hybrid, that's as far as i will go with a case, and i often go through periods where i remove the case just to really enjoy the phone's feel. typically i am pretty careful with my gadgets, but there are MANY dumb careless users like those that put their phone in their back pocket and crack the screen on day 1.
wait for release day, i guarantee there will be multiple threads how cheap the phone is because they either dropped it or sat on it.

I have an HTC One M7 and while for the most part I don't use a case every once in a while I do just throw one on. It's normally one of those snap on jobs that just covers the back. I don't know if people who use cases more always have a case on? I guess if you want to protect it in case you want to sell it on later?
The thing that worries me most with cameras that stick out is the glass getting scratched

Review After Having the Phone for 6 Days

OK my short review from having the LG G4 for 6 days now! Just as background, I luckily got the phone through a workmate i know in South Korea so the one i have is the South Korean model. Also, the South Korean version gives you something that is a bloody lifesaver and just so useful and you wish you'd always had one: an extra battery. More on that later.
So I have been using the Nexus 6 since launch and love it. To me at least it's been great – big screen, big development on XDA (I love custom roms/kernels and flashing in general) and over all a phone that i have loved. The only issues i have had really are: the screen is ok but could be better, the camera is ok and could be better and it is heavy and hefty so I use it one-handed but only just. It's a monster!
So last few months have been looking for something not quite as big with a better camera and better screen. I tried both the S6 and S6 Edge and sold them within a few days. Mostly because i think they are just too small and poky or something. S6 Edge was too sharp for me.
Along comes the G4! And if you don't want to read the boring detail below then in short: I love it and haven't really seen any faults at all.
Boring Detail:
Battery:
Here's a tricky one as i have always had decent battery on all phones i get. And all i do is read the same thing over and again on battery threads everywhere: 'i get only 2 hours Screen on Time help!' and then 'i get 7 hours Screen on Time and i'm amazing!'. The problem is the same: every person's usage pattern and apps and mobile reception is different so this all accounts for differing Screen on Time. So – FOR ME – i am getting consistently around 5 to 5.5 hours Screen on Time which is perfectly fine. So i reckon on MOST of the current flag ships you'd be getting pretty similar SOT.
However the one big bloody glaring thing about the South Korean model is that extra battery and that right there should solve pretty much ALL battery issues. So I just have the extra battery in the charging case attached to a USB cable on my computer. If I have gotten low on a day where i have the used phone a lot then 38 seconds later i have swapped batteries for the new 100% one! How good is that! Do yourself a favour and get a spare battery! No doubt they will be available shortly.
Two things that reviews are singling out as ‘cons’ which I think is just silly.
Wireless charging. I love wireless charging and until you use it a lot you don’t realise how convenient it is. I also have two Tylt Vu chargers and they are expensive so i want a device that uses wireless charging! Ok so the G4 has wireless charging CAPABILITY meaning that you need a different back than the one that comes with it and it will work.
Already LG has said that the G4 circle case will have that. So all I will be doing is waiting for the inevitable Shenzen rip off sticker that you stick inside your case that gives me wireless charging. I will give it 4 weeks max before they are on Ebay for $5.
Quick charging. There’s this boring debate that the G4 did not include Quick Charging 2.0 even though Qualcom have it in their chip. Big deal! What you do get is the 1.8 Quick Charge which isn’t quite as good but is still perfectly acceptable! In my testing it charges a bit over 1% per minute. Which is just fine.
Feel:
Sorry about the pretentious term ‘feel’ but it’s the best way of describing a major kick ass thing this phone has! It is just the BEST weight, feel and hold of any phone i’ve owned. It’s not light, it’s not heavy. It’s not small and it’s not phablety big. It is juuuuuuuust right. Dunno what it exactly is – maybe the slight bend? But it’s great.
Leather. I would never in a squillion years think i would own a leather phone or that the leather would work. But it does. Looks good, feels great, is great. Photos do not do it justice. I got the black weather which i love but if i was to buy it again the brown/tan i think could be the pick. If you get the plastic to save a few bucks then, um, don’t!
Camera:
Not going to go into detail because every review already has and i am not a manual camera person. I am Mr Point and Shoot. Suffice to say it takes very good photos. Had it over the weekend at Adelaide with relatives and photos turned out great.
Lag/Stutter/UI Blah:
Ok so on EVERY phone i own i remove the stock launcher and install an aftermarket one because guess why? They’re better. Don’t understand why people cry about the OEM launcher when the aftermarket ones are installed within 16 seconds and are better anyway.
Stutter/lag – again this is another topic that i don’t understand. I really haven’t had a phone that suffered at all from this. I ALWAYS change the animation three options to 0.5 in Developer Options and this often is more than enough. Don’t need to be rooted and takes 14 seconds – why wouldn’t you do it? In general though, i have not had stutter or lag in this phone at all.
The Knock Code to turn on screen. Sorry but every phone that doesn’t have this should get that as a ‘con’. It is just soooo convenient. Love it.
Notification shade works well. Lots of options, lots of shortcuts to choose.
Notification light – a no brainer and dunno why the Nexus 6 didn’t have it and i had to install a custom ROM to get it. It works and works fine.
Ability to change nav bar buttons around and add a couple more. Love this as i always like my back button on the right not the left.
These little customisations are what really makes the UI i think. So handy.
Display:
Great. Bright and similar when i had the S6 as a stand out. Reviews have covered it pretty well too – is an excellent colourful display. LG got it right.
Sound:
Decent! I just don’t use my phone to listen to stuff except for headphones but is loud and ok. Not as good as HTC but good for a phone.
Weird big bloody LCD density:
Here’s a weird thing which no review has mentioned which is the only thing that really annoyed me: the density is 620! Meaning that things are huge! Everything looked like a huge fonted behemoth! And without root i wasn’t able to use the easy way of changing the density via build.prop and eventually had to do it via hooking it to the PC and using Android SDK tools and change it to 540.
Overall:
Found a phone that for me at least satisfied most of what i want in a phone very well. And i haven’t even missed using a custom rom because you can’t root it yet! Never thought i’d say that. So once everyone has it in a month then hopefully development will mean it is even better!
Oh and get the effin leather purlease!!
Thank you for this nice review! Really appreciate it
That was a bloody useful review. Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks. I'm on a GN4 but as usual itching for my 6 month change...
Q how is the speakerphone? GN4 is excellent. Is it loud? I was a little disappointed by the g3.
The.pixel density issue is interesting. I loved the g3, but for some reason I found it difficult to read text. Even when I changed the size. Partly it's my middle age eyesight but it's not an issue i suffer from with the galaxy note series or even s5. Could never figure out why I found the g3 difficult to read. Perhaps it's that pixel density.

Yes the speaker is definitely loud. It is on the back of the phone though and is just one speaker. I wouldn't say quality is great but definitely loud.
Yes so weird about the LCD density! But yeah if you like big text then all good.
Great review, we are all hopeful we get root, bootloader unlock and Roms as well.
After installing the alternative home launcher, have you had any issues with the Knock On or Knock Off feature?

Nope knock on/off works great still with alternative launcher.
I have read in only 1 review the leather is kind of poorly attached to the plastic back. How nice is the leather attached? Does it wrap around the edges and conceal any plastic back? Clean install?

Seriously it's great. Photos don't do it justice though. It's hard leather but looks and feels really sturdy and just matches the phone.

So what does it do? I must wrap all the way around the edges of the plastic back it is attached it? if it does not, it would peel up. I am talking about wrapping around all of the edges of the plastic back so NO plastic back is seen along the edges. Not wrapping around the entire phones back

This is great news thank you for confirming this, appears that owners of the G3 and G2 were forced to use 3rd party apps to enable one or both of those features when using an alternative home launcher. Im assuming you are using Nova Launcher, I have also always installed that stable application on top of whatever manufacturer I buy.
What is something that has surprised you the most about the G4?
Any feature or something unique from that phone that reviewers or users have not thought of bringing up?

Ok yeah.... as I had expected and hoped.. it does wrap around the edges of the battery door. So, you do not see the leather end and then some plastic of the back battery door. And, agreed, and as expected, it does not wrap leather up around the edges of the phone, just the battery door - so it is a nice clean finish.

Can you expand a bit on how you addressed the density? I know you said "hooking it to the PC and using Android SDK tools and change it to 540.". I would modify in build.prop as you mentioned, but no root so no way so I am not so sure what you mean here how you accomplished this tweak.

Can the G4 turn Chrome into a free floating window?
Great review, very informative.
I passed on the G3 after really liking the G2 mostly due to the locked BL. I hope LG provides the ability to unlock it this time around like Sony and HTC do.
Or someone here cracks it much faster than it happened on the G3 which took what seemed like forever.

Thanks for the link. Do the dock and lock screen icons work on stock launcher using this method. On the G3 they didn't scale correctly?
What buttons can you change/add to the nav bar? Can you add a menu button?

Yeah, it's a great device, IF you get a good one! The same problems that bothered the OnePlus One, are coming back to the OnePlus 2.
SOFTWARE problems, then some potential problems with the touch sensor that is starting to crop up. If you remember some of the problems with ghost touches, that appear to be associated with grounding problems with the screen. People have noticed if they are gripping the oneplus2 with one hand, wrapped around the metal band, and try to use the touch sensor thingy, it may not work, or produce an unintended result. If you wear gloves, or have the phone placed on a table, the fingerprint thingy sensor works just fine.
If you have a problem, good luck with opening a ticket and returning it.
I'm of the opinion that OnePlus, is nothing more than a paper company, that does beta testing for Oppo, who owns them.

Well, at some points I'll have to disagree.
With me, finger print censor works great. It depends on you how you've set up fingerprint. Ie covering your fingerprint in almost every possible way that you may use.
But you'd ask me, native camera app UI could be much better than this. There is HUGE space for improvement here.
Also, I don't know if battery life is that great as they claim. But I stay most of the time at home or at office so don't have problems.
My thoughts (I've had a Xiaomi Note and an MX4):
1. Much better build quality than both - be sure to Swap the sandstone back for a Bamboo or Apricot to finish the job. Seriously night and day between those and the OnePlus One.
2. Camera is better than both but slower to shoot. This needs sorting out via software. I'm surprised at this because Oppo (chief investor/owner) have always excelled in camera software. My find 5, find 7, and R5s have always been instant shooters.
3. Oxygen OS is much better than Hydrogen, MIUI, and Flyme. It's no coincidence that Chinese market focused OSs are dumbed down and quite childish in appearance - that's how most of them are (ColorOS is another example). I don't mind them, and they're certainly usable, but prefer the more mature and light skins... Preferably as close to stock as possible like Oxygen.
4. Battery is good. Similar to OPO and Xiaomi Note.
5. Performance is great. Smooth and fluid with no app refreshing issues. The SD810 may be underclocked but you will not notice it. And it doesn't get hot.
There's more but you need to try it yourself. As a OnePlus One owner, I upgraded and recommend others do too.

I don't have Kevlar yet but will probably order it next when I go for the Rosewood.
At the moment I just have Bamboo and Black Apricot. I prefer the Apricot's look as it matches the rest of the device. However, the Bamboo feels really great and doesn't show any fingerprints whatsoever and it looks good albeit in a different style.
The Kevlar will look awesome if you want to go ultra stealth.
To be honest, I think they all look good in their own way and want them to swap out depending on my mood. Before I saw and tried then I though they were a bit gimmicky and might feel cheap but it's the exact opposite.

The last two (Kevlar and Rosewood) are mid-delivery so will probably arrive tomorrow. I'll post a quick opinion when they land.

I've got about 12 hours before my invite runs out. Has anyone tested to see if both sims are capable of 4g service simultaneously. I know it's dual standby. Thanks for any info.

You mean use 4G (LTE) days on both SIMs at the same time? If so I'm afraid not. In the settings you have to choose s preferred SIM for data.

Sorry, no, not what I mean. Badly worded. I want both sims to be 4g active at the same time to receive calls / text. I do understand only one sim will be 4g active for data at anytime.

Arrived today. Must say the Kevlar is real nice. Slightly textured so it grips but not like the sandstone; matte finish so doesn't show prints to badly; and of course it looks stealthy and themes well with the rest of the phone.
If I was going to have one cover for appearance alone, Kevlar would be it.
Small note: I do recommend changing from the sandstone cover because all other covers are slightly thicker, thus making the camera area slightly inset. This means you can go caseless and not have the camera scrape across a surface when you lay the phone down. With the thinner sandstone, the camera area sticks out just enough to be the first point of contact.

Thanks a lot for your review of Kevlar. Wanted to know user review rather than a YouTube videos.
Also, about the camera going slightly inset after putting on a styleswap cover, I observed that in videos and they were also telling it made a device little hefty. But on a positive side, since I don't like to put on any covers on my smartphone, I thought kevlar would be the best one to protect it from any accidental physical damage.
Again, appreciate your time!

I prefer caseless too. With recent phones having protruding cameras it's almost been a necessity to protect it.
Kevlar + no case = best look and feel.
Got invite today a few hours left I have opo and happy with it is it worth getting three opo2 seems no much difference besides finger print scanner and no NFC. I keep changing my mind to buy one or not heard the battery life is 4 hours screen on time due to 810 CPU which is worse than opo what do you think

Stay away from dbrand

So yea i loved my phone a lot when I first got it dressed it up in a nice clear case for a week and then my dbrand skin showed up after an eternity. Paid 1 dollar for shipping i would say cant conplain, but 3 weeks later got me pissed. Especially with their no cancellation policy. And their return policy sucks as well. But this was some of the cheapest material ive ever seen. Just sitting on a table or in my pocket or in my hands, the skin decolorized and tore in 2 days. My front piece wasnt measured correctly at all and overall i paid 20 dollars for just a camera sticker. It's the only one that really didnt get in the way. Otherwise it was 20 wasted. Poor quality vinyls poor quality shipping poor quality customer service. Spend your money elsewhere. Just get a cool case or a thin clear one. The phone is beautiful on its own.
Don't have this experience at all. Maybe you should contact dBrand instead of posting a rant on the OnePlus 3t forum.
in regards to the tearing you might have applied it wrong. I've had a dbrand skin on this phone since day one of daily driver usage back in November. 0 issues with the skin coming off or being torn.
agreed with above too.
i'm using a back skin on my op3t from dbrand and i'm very satisfied with.
Go get your hair dryer and get it right is all I can say ?

Kamehamehaaaaaaaaaa!!!
Never had a problem with any of my dbrands.

I have to agree with others there. I have had my skin on since I got my 3T and I do not have any issues.
Just because you have issues, that does not mean everyone should avoid it - it could have been just one bad batch.
I bought skin for S6 from dbrand and its been on my phone half a year now and the skin holds perfectly well and has no issues you mentioned above.
I dunno. I've had my dbrand carbon since the Nexus 4 days and it's still holding up fine.
