Need guidance regarding compiling a rom - LG V20 Questions & Answers

Good afternoon ladies and gents,
I am here today seeking your guidance on compiling the stock rom for the lg v20 h910 (AT&T) variant. I was able to grab the rom source and the kernel source from here .... as far as that being the right rom is beyond me lol... but it matches the model number so i thought i would give it a try. and i am wondering if anyone can show me the right direction in do so myself. i have a desktop pc running win10 64 pro build 1607 ( redstone 2 ), but i also have a macbook pro if i cannot use my pc. if i have to install linux i will do so. any guidance would be much appreciated.
I want to lock the bootloader after the dirty santa exploit and also return the device to at&t for an upgrade, i want to get the s8+ . The reason i want to lock it and unroot ( stock it basically ) is because i am afraid of at&t coming after me for the full price of the device, especially that i have the NATF mega rom with the static boot screen and i am also afraid that they would think the device is not functional. The extrior of the device is flawless, no scratches nor dents or anything of that sort.

Nothing?

Can you not use google to search the forums for the answers on using LGUP to maybe restore your phone to stock, thus negating the need to possibly install multiple operating systems, or compile code?
I do not use your variant of this device (i am on the LS997) so my answer should be immediately discarded, but by and large more devices can be restored to factory utiluzing LGUP than can not be restored.
Good night, and good luck.

If there was an available kdz for my variant I would have used lg flash tool. Or lgup. Thats why i asked for a guide in the right direction when it came to compiling. Because the source code is available for h910 which is the at&t variant but no available kdz. So i was simply asking to learn how to compile a kdz from source code.

{v20 ls997 sprint} unclock code for stock sprint rom {for non-sprint sim}

1st I checked for any posts or threads for my question no results so here we go
I have 3x ls997 one bricked (100% my fault I did something stupid to brick it), one (my 1st one) santa rooted & custom rom (sim-unlocked) today I got 3rd one (again ls997 still full stock out of the box) as replacement for my bricked one. Thing is I want to sim-unlock the stock sprint rom as is out of the box by paying for the service. Tried androidsimunlock but they got me "unavalable unlock code" and refunded me (attached photo). Any suggestions will be welocmed. Phone is sprint bad esn but I live in Europe that's why I bought bad esn since it doesn't matter for international use once you got it unlocked somehow. Thank you for reading. :good:

that's what I did successfully on my 1 of 3 lg v20 the one I use for myself actually. the thing is after 2 months with us996 rom (used us996 original deodexed rom the original file from december not us996 .kdz which I tried and changes the modem therefore I loose all connections (no service)) the phone becomes more and more super slow. I mean really slow. I have zero to non apps installed. I don't even play games. Also not heavy user in all aspects. ALso there are no OTA you must download new custom rom every time and flash using the existing already twrp since santa rooted.
I love how stock sprint rom works. Fast, reliable, don't mind the bloatware. Also awesome to have hard reset working from the menu not only using fastboot commands. also OTA updates working is great because this phone is getting android 8 (yes a lot of time until that happened)

Ota will never work once you dirty santa. Have to patch the ota after it is dl or boot loop. But i understand wanting the rom to run faster. You may be able to flash a dif. Boot.img and get it to run quicker on us996. And yeah i wouldnt recommend restoring a ls997 with the us996 kdz.
You can SIM unlock your LS997 using Octoplus LG unlock.
It is up to you to decide will you do it by yourself or use help here's how it looks.
There are a lot of re-sellers also on eBay, for example this one
P.S.: As far as the problem is with the kernel and alot of system garbage for this device you'll get same lags in several months of usage of course even using stock Sprint FW...

LS990 need instructions for root please

Hi,
My D852 board failed from WiFi issue. While traveling replaced mobo with LS990 Sprint board. It won’t connect to data now because of cdma issue with gsm sim.
I’ve been reading on here for a week or more trying to sort out what I need to do.
Therefore, my goal is to get gsm data and sim working in the simplest way possible.
Please help:
1. Instructions to root it. It’s a LS990ZVE build with 5.01. I can’t find info on zve rooting. I google and find very little if anything. Do I have to downgrade or upgrade the system to root it?
2. Once I root I will install the TWRP app and make a NANDroid copy so I don’t get into trouble. I would like to install LineageOs 16 (or otherwise based on your opinions) for Android 9.0 and Gapps. Will this work on my motherboard and build?
3. Will the LineageOs 16 rom also fix the cdma to gsm problem? Or do I have to use a patch on top of lineageos16?
4. Can I perform all of these changes without using a pc? Using apps and the storage on the phone or sd card? I’m trying to keep it simple.
5. The board is clean right now without my old LG backup restored yet. At what point can I restore this LG backup to the new board? Before rooting? Or after flashing with LineageOs 16. The problem for me is I did the backup with the lg installed software and the file likely won’t be compatible once I flash with a new rom?
Please help.
Thank you.

Your going to want to replace that board with a compatble gsm model or use the phone on sprint
Using a Sprint model board/G3 your gonna have nothing but problems and a bad time with it. Not worth the headache even if it was free

Hi Hyelton,
Thank you for responding.
I would still like to give this a try as I have nothing to lose and will use the phone only for another 4-6 months then I’m buying a new phone. I’ve been dealing with the WiFi issue on the original board for 12monhs on a weekly basis, taking it apart and repositioning the plastic credit card fix and/or heating the WiFi chip. I can always flash this Sprint cdma board back to the original Sprint code with the nandroid backup if it’s not working happily. Also, I’m in Canada and can’t use the Sprint network from here.
Therefore, please let me know what methods to use as I will greatly appreciate help. I’m interested in this realm of android as a hobby and learning something new.

What software is it currently running? If anything newer most likely won’t have any chances... there are several methods. But most involve software version ZV8. If it’s newer than that downgrading is prob not an option.
And you’ll need a windows PC you can’t do this from the phone itself

It has android 5.01 (lollipop?) and build is LS990ZVE
I had a hard time finding information on the differences of ZV_ line up of android so I don’t know if ZVE is newer or older than ZV8.
I have a laptop running Windows 7 and a pc running vista ( but vista pc not with me right now).

What version android is zve? I’d like to read about the levels of android using these letter versions.
What levels or build versions allow me to do what I’m trying to do?
Is there anyone else on our forum here that would also be able to help that you know of?

You stated that above. ZVE is 5.0.1. It’s newer than ZV8.
Your gonna need to pay someone with an oculus box most likely. And paying for a phone line that it would be cheaper to just buy a gsm one

LG G6 bootloader unlock is not possible anymore through LG

After succesfully flashing the wonderful LineageOS into my Samsung Galaxy Tab A i was so excited to do the same with my LG G6 H870. Today i set up the connection, wanted to get the bin file from LG developer site and realized they had shut down the site 31. december 2021. Now i am left with locked bootloader
And i believe many people will be sad because of this. Its unfair from LG to remove this option. If they will continue to support a few recent phones with SW updates they also had to leave the bootloader unlock service alive for a few years too.
I dont know if any developer is reading this but would it be possible to find an exploit if we are forced to because of no other options left? Like when devs are reverse engineering licence key validation and then building keygens, so to examine the bin file and the corresponding IMEI, device ID, possibly gather further bin files and IMEI, device ID from other forum members and find the logic behind it?
Could anybody give us hope?
Thank you for your opinions.
I'm in same boat with G5H850. Hope someones finds a solution beacause several LG support answered me they cannot perform the unlock anymore...
I feel so disappointed as it was an automated process that they do not support it anymore.
Is there any other way to flash trwp now? Would firehouse help?
Same to me, I wanted to upgrade an old G6 to LineageOS and got stopped out.
Thank you LG, I won't buy any **** from your company anymore.
So if anyone finds a workaround for this issue, please post a solution in this thread. Tyvm in advanced.

I highly doubt and i would be surprised.
I dont think G6 was such a popular model across the globe. Everybody has moved to the more recent versions and are unlocking them with a special method.
I think its not worth to waste development time on it. Maybe if there could be "keygen" type script to generate the files for every LG model globally.
I am sad btw. I have renewed my galaxy tab a tablet with a nice Lineage and i believe it would boost my G6 as well. I would pay a reasonable price if i could flash a custom ROM into it.

There most likely won't be a new method. The unofficial methods are used through EDL, and the EDL isn't accessable without shorting pins or test points. I'm glad i unlocked mine the day i got it last year.

But that EDL stuff method is for a few newer models only, right? I dont believe it would work on G6 as well. I did not dig into it deeper but as far as i remember its a specifix kernel for the EDL stuff method, chipset is different, partitioning is different, so it wont work on G6. But i might be wrong of course

Yeah, i ment that. Cuz the EDL is basically not made to be accessed on the G6 and lower, there won't be a method.
A responsible company should put out a bootloader unlock code generator while discontinuing its mobile business. Or change the unlocking method to Google pixel's standard way in the last system update, i.e. unlocking via command line
Code:
fastboot flashing unlock
.

Did I get the "wrong" V20 for rooting? H910 vs Other Variants.

Hi everyone, I decided to pick up a spare V20 as a walk around device (I won't use it as a phone, especially because you can't use HD voice on a custom Rom with the V20), just as a multi media player, camera, web browsing device, etc.
I picked up another V20 soely to root and put a custom rom on there to play with.
Any how, I saw this walk through for a recent walkthrough on rooting a V20, and apparently the H910 (at&t version) is harder/more tedious to root compared to the VS995 (verizon version):
Did I get the "wrong" V20 variant? Should I return it? Or is it still relatively easy to root the H910 and run a custom ROM in 2022?
TIA
No replies, has anyone bought a V20 lately and rooted? They still have a lot of them on ebay, though I question them, they seem to be refurbished but sold as "new".

Yeah you can Root the H910 and run a custom rom.
[ROOT] HOWTO: AT&T H910 up to v20g (FULLY TESTED)
Make a dump backup first before flashing the H915 KDZ file. Put it in a very safe place it has you EFS. That's what makes your phone work.
h910_root_pkg.zip "DirtySanta root package"
usb drivers for windows
Terminal Emulator for Android "f-droid Download APK at bottom of page"
LG V20 ROMs, Kernels, Recoveries, & Other Developm

Thanks for the insight and pointing me to the right direction @Darnrain1 !
On one of the H910's, I DEFINITELY want to put your custom rom on there and give it a run!
For now, I was trying to use one as a carry on device. However, with the way things are in my life right now, these projects will be in my backlog, haha... the main thing is, at least I have the hardware on hand.
I'll just leave them be for now. Slightly off topic, but I'd love to get my hands on a LG V50 as well one day. Nice camera, better speakers... though it still lacks the IR blaster, and most importantly, the ability to easily replace the battery. LG might have not been the best, but they certainly did some innovative/unique/great things in their tenure while in the smartphone space.

Google Android 9 Rom to ATT Android 10 Stock Rom

So back when I got my phone in Feb 2020, I did what most people do when they have a new device, update it. After some googling, I found plenty of threads about how great the google version of Android 9 is for the v35. Removing the ATT bloatware was my main reason for flashing to it.
I've read on a few different websites that if you flashed to the stock google android 9 rom, that there is no way to flash back to the ATT roms, or upgrade to the current android 10 att rom. My phone is unlocked and is of course, the ATT version.
Model: LM-V350AWM (doesn't show that it's google I guess)
Hardware: Rev 1.0
I have not bought an ATT sim card or gotten there service to upgrade because of what I read. Is it possible to flash back to stock ATT ROMs or to OTA with an ATT sim if I flashed to the google version? Anyway to go back (stock 8.0 even)? I really don't want to switch to a new phone since I got this baby for 190$ and finding something equally good or better in this price range is not happening. I'd appreciate any information you guys have on this.
Thanks!
It isn't clear from your note what you want to do. If your objective is to get to A10, I highly recommend following cloud's guide to localize the Korean A10 rom. That would require unlocking the bootloader. Everything on that rom works at least for me and my use cases. Browse around here in the v35 forums and you'll find the threads you need.
If your aim is simply stock A10 with ATT, there is one option. Someone posted a partition dump. You could try writing partitions one-by-one usind qfil. I haven't seem any reports of anyone doing that....
Okay. So is it confirmed that if you flashed the stock Google Fi Android 9 onto your att phone that you can't flash back to atts? Different partition sizes end up bricking the phone? I can't find any att kdz anyway. Not even the older android 8. I know att $oesnt release theirs but plenty of folks normally upload their stock kdz for the community.
Really confused with how dead the LG V30/35 community has been since day 1. I remember when I was learning how to root my viewsonic g tablet and galaxy 3 (2011-12) the forums were bursting with people and stock kdz loaded everywhere. And 30 different roms were being worked on for one device. I think the galaxy S5 community is still more active than this one. Smh
Thank you for the reply. I'll look for the post you mentioned. I haven't worked or played around with modifying android in 10 years. Only thing I've done is a quick flash of googlefi kdz back in 2020 which was brainless. Just looking at the tutorials to root this phone seems daunting now lol.

AT&T does not release kdz. Don't know why you think that needs to be confirmed. Partitions for AT&T A10 have been dumped. You can write them one by one by qfil.
As to why V30/V35 development is dead, a huge factor is that lg exited the mobile phone market. LG, despite making good hardware, was also not developer friendly. The V35 is 4 years old.
As for rooting a V35, just follow the instructions if that's what you want or move to newer models with 5G, more memory, and greater battery capacity.
I am still rocking my V35 Fi phone happily.

I thought people who were more tech savvy than me could pull a stock KDZ off their own ATT phone. That's what people did in the past anyway (I believe).
The phone is still great and I'm glad you are happy with it. I just wanted android 10 on my phone. Stock. English. I might try the Korean route since I'm less likely to brick my phone. Who knows, we'll find out. Thanks for the replys.
The localized A10 Korean rom has been fantastic for me. Everything works.
Make sure you backup ftm and efs partitions before starting. You will lose the S/N but it is easily restored. If you are in US, I suggest you flash the localized OP partition. Links are in the localization thread started by cloud.
