S8/S8+ DLNA Support? - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

I got in the Unlocked S8+ last week (returning it for the Unlocked S8) and was wondering what happened to DLNA support? All my past Samsung phones (S3/4/5, Note2/3/4/5) and LG G5 have supported DLNA in some form, which allows the phone's Gallery app to view content on my Windows 7 PC.
But with the Unlocked S8+ that I have now, I don't see this anywhere on the phone.
I found this on the Verizon site:
https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-210974/
But doesn't seem to work on Unlocked S8+ that I have.

Maybe you need to install an app?
I installed bubbleUPNP and MediaHouse, both let me read from my computer running serviio or cast it to my DLNA TV as well. I'd not tried it with my S6, so don't know how it used to be done, but with either of those apps it works fine.

I know with my other Samsung phones, no additional app was needed, as the included Samsung Gallery app was able to connect to my Windows 7 PC via DLNA to view images/videos.
I would of thought the S8 Gallery app would do the same thing.

Use Samsung Connect.
Share the video/image whatever and use the "view content on tv" or whatever suits your needs.

I had tried Samsung Connect, but that doesn't work when wanting to stream from PC to the Phone, only from Phone to a Samsung Smart TV.

DLNA

Hi
Does new Galaxy 10.1 WiFi only 16GB come with DLNA connectivity (like Tab 7.0) or not? Not able to understand it even on samsung.com site...
the 10.1 comes with stock android 3.1 so.. no, it does not have dlna support out of the box.
Here you go: http://www.samsung.de/de/Privatkund...T-P7500UWDDBT/detail.aspx?atab=specifications
DivX support Yes (This feature is available in Q3 with a software update.)
And I think I saw it somewhere associated with DLNA.

as far as I remember DLNA was going to come later (probably when they push TouchWiz)

DLNA comes with the Allshare app, which is part of TW afaik.
I plan to use it to both send and recieve media from my XBMC box. Saves me from buying a HDMI adapter
I'm using imediashare to stream videos from tab/youtube to TV through xbox/NMT player. Not sure how it connects (uPnP or DLNA) but it works
I downloaded the imediashare app and it works like a dream with my PS3. 1080p? No lag, no problems whatsoever.
maybe try to install the Allshare apk from the SGS 2 ?
Anybody else try out imediashare?
It tells me it is not compatible with the GT 10.1.
I've tried netFront connect
I've tried the following so far:
ALLSHARE - does not even start!
AMEDIA CONTROL - can reach the dlna server and browse the directories but video don't start.
SKIFTA - reach the server, browse directories but video don't play. Just images if paused.
NETFRONT - reach the server but more often than not it freezes.
It seems DLNA compatibility is not possible so far.
BubbleUPnP works everytime - content from Host (Ubuntu) or USB stick in the back of the router.
try plex for android and imediashare

Allshare and DLNA?

I want to stream a few movies from my tablet to my Samsung LED t.v like I can with my SGS2, but it seems as if the tab 10.1 doesn't have allshare.
I've googled it and found that it's supposed to have DLNA and allshare. What can I do?
Think it's a waiting game. Should get it from Samsung as an update. Eventually.
That's what I've heard anyway...

The gtab 10.1 came with stock HC3.1. Allshare/Dnla is a sammy product that requires the Touchwiz libraries. Expect to see it once TW4 officially drops for the tablet.

Well, just to keep this thread alive, where is AllShare? Now, even after the official release of TouchWiz, still no AllShare.
The iMediaShare app will do the same, although it's not tablet-ready. I've been using it to send TED videos to my TV this afternoon. Free.
i use skifta. it works like allshare and will stream mkv files too so long as there is a player capable of playing mkv files on your tablet.

I'm not sure about the permissions with that app?
READ PHONE STATE AND IDENTITYAllows the application to access the phone features of the device. An application with this permission can determine the phone number and serial number of this phone, whether a call is active, the number that call is connected to and the like.

So long as your tablet isn't a phone I wouldn't worry about it. I've got it installed mine, and although the UI doesn't stretch to fill the big screen, the media lists do. When Allshare shows up, and if it works with my LG TV then I'll delete imediashare. Only suggested it as a placeholder until Samsung gets around to providing a solution.
Still have no idea about the suggestion by a salesclerk who stated that the Tablet could play your TV's content. The only way I get that done is if I'm lucky enough to find the same show on the network's web site and play it from there.
Media players need to know when the phone is in use so you aren't hearing asain midget porn in the background while talking to grandma..

I didn't have any trouble downloading and running it, but it isn't written for tablets as the small app UI will attest. It works though, at least between my LG smart TV and my Tab.
Allshare.apk
Here you go - put it in the system/apps folder.

Allshare
Hi all!
My comes with Allshare, but it works only with laptop/pc. Unfortunatelly, it could not communicate with my Asus o!play mini plus media player.
Any idea?
Thanks,

For streaming movies, photos from your PC along with several Tab resident services, (YouTube, Shoutcast Flickr, Picasa and others), check out ZappoTV. The Android version is new and a work in progress but the iOS version is pretty solid.
You will need a compatible device attached to your TV or AV Receiver. I use the WDTV Live Plus but there are a number of others that work very well. You will also need a media server installed on your PC, (I use Tversity).
With this setup, I can fire up the Tab, turn my AV receiver to the appropriate input and control everything from my comfy leather chair. I am not sure if this app will stream content stored on the Tab itself but just about anything on the PC is available.
For playing music on a stereo system connected to a media server, the Android version of ZappoTV is not as good as it needs to be. A better app if you just want to use the Tab to manage and play your PC-based music library is 2Player.
Now if someone would figure out a way to control Pandora with the Tab and send the output to a media device like my WDTV, I would be a really happy camper.

[Q] Looking for Allshare or similar app

I know AllShare is a Samsung application. I have it on my Galaxy S phone, and I have found it quite usefull for streaming music and video in my house to my phone. It is also on the Galaxy Tab, I believe, although I have never seen or used one. I would like to be able to use this sort of functionality for the A500.
Is there a pulled AllShare APK from the Galaxy Tab that works and is available for the A500? Or are there other good DLNA apps available? The only one I have found so far is DoubleTwist's AirTwist, which will share the music/video on the android device to other DLNA devices, but cannot play from other devices. Any suggestions?
check your app drawer
the acer tablet has dlna server built in..
I have used it but just to test to see if it works. and it does..
the app is acer clear.fi.. it should be in your app drawer.. it works with another app on your tablet called Media Server..
Search the android market for aVia.. its great and works with nearly all media types..
A like Bubble uPNP

I think he was looking for a client, not server.
To the OP: BubbleUPnP ( https://market.android.com/details?id=com.bubblesoft.android.bubbleupnp&feature=search_result ) is apparently a very capable DLNA-client. I have not tried it myself so I cannot say anything from personal experience.
I use BubbleUPnP, great app.

Clear.fi does both. it uses the media server to share files on the tab.. Clear.fi app will find all dlna servers running on the same network.. mine will see this Notebook i am typing on right now.. Bonnie's Desktop. Our Linux Server in the basement. My Desktop in bedroom Our Samsung Smart TV. But it does have some lag time each time you start it.. I guess it does not remember the devices or content. aVIA is quick.. I Looked at the bubble one as well it seems promising but aVia looks more sleek .

I cannot get it to see any DLNA servers on my network. Not that it really matters, DLNA is a horribly broken and limited framework and really needs a modern replacement. (Again a topic I've written about on Google+ before.)
Thank you all for your help and comments! I apologize for my delayed response, I've been busy.
I have tried both aVia and BubbleUPnP, and both meet my needs quite nicely, thank you. Clear.fi or whatever does not appear to be part of the ROM I am currently using, so I never saw it to try it. I think these other two options work better for me anyway.
Thanks again for the help!
That is what I use. I have not found anything better than that.

I've tried several client software for streaming videos from my home media server to my Android tablet/phone. I found that 'Qloud Media' is the best in relation to performance. You may download a free version from the Android Market.
To make it work, you will need to install 'Qloud Media Server' on a Windows PC, which is also free.

DLNA Working?

Is DLNA working on the Nexus 7?
Do you need additional software to use it?
i haven't seen DLNA mentioned anywhere in official specs or reviews so i don't think it has it.
as far as adding it, no idea, don't think it can be done.
All you should need is an DLNA enabled media player from the app store and access to/from network. DLNA is software certification not hardware. Or do you want to stream from the Nexus rather than to it. Try Bubble UPnP or there's Mediahouse and others.

What would be an example of a good DLNA enabled media player to access media files from the network?
The 2 files Bubble UPnP and Mediahouse would then only send my media from this tablet to a DLNA enabled device?
(I have a WD Live Plus DLNA device).
I assume until someone tests these software on the Nexus 7, there might me initial computability issues?
I would wait until you have your device in hand then try the free versions of them to see which is best suited to your needs. As I haven't received mine yet I can't say what works with it.
Install Skifta, that'll do DNLA Server or Client. Combined with MX Player I've never had a problem with using it on any of my Android devices.

Trying to find the same answer. I was pairing a bluetooth headset with my tablet and noticed my TV showed up...but when I click on it, it says something about an incorrect PIN even though there was no prompting for a PIN. Would love to stream to the TV...not sure why I see it under bluetooth either because I'm pretty sure bluetooth can't handle that much data.
DLNA works fine, I use the Plex DLNA server on my HTPC and BubbleUPNP client on my N7. Great combo.

[Q] AirPlay style streaming from Chrome/Browser

Hi all,
I was wondering if you could help me find if there was a way to stream content that's from the web (e.g. Chrome/Browser) over to a device that supports something like Airplay and similar services. I know TouchWiz on my S3 can do this already, but is there a way to get this on my N7?
I've searched on Google but find nothing.
Thanks!

I'm not sure about how Airplay works. But You can try AirDroid, Wifi File Transfer.
Let me know if it works for you.

I think these are for file transfer. I've actually used AirDrop to transfer files between my Mac and S3. What I'd like to be able to do is send audio/video I'm streaming from the web on my Nexus 7 onto say my Xbox 360 or a set of network enabled speakers.
My S3 can do this as TouchWiz has AllShare built in to it. So really I'm looking for an alternative to AllShare that will work with my N7.
Thanks

Why don't you just use something like Chrome to mobile or Dolphin connect and send share the link to your N7 and enjoy the music.
Check iMediaShare app. I guess this is what you are looking for
