Well first of all, WHY DID YOU TRY TO UPDATE WITH LOW BATTERY?!?! I'm pretty sure you get warned EVERYWHERE to have AT LEAST 70-80% in every update ever to avoid problems like this. I'd honestly take it to a non-official repair center. I once had this problem on a Note 1, tried searching everywhere on the net but no luck. Just took it to this one person that specialized on repairing phones and he did it for about $5 dollars. Every fix I found on the web involved having a backup of you /EFS which I didn't have. Mistakes are for you to learn, hopefully you know better in the future.

okey.. thank you for respond

[Q] SM-N900 (The Americas) Region-Lock

Hello,
I post this thread, helpless finding a solution..I hope it is not a duplicate..
My uncle bought me a SM-N900 Unlocked Note 3 from Bestbuy Florida, USA. He did not touch the phone till he brings it here, Turkey. When he deliver me the phone i could not use it with my Turkish sim card and i was shocked of course.. I searched for solutions on the net and found some answers about it. Here is (actually are) what i did to overcome;
1) Firstly i rooted the phone and tried the Region Lock Away app from Chainfire, unluckily the app doesnt support my model, i found out from the forums (or it was what i understood)
2) Next i communicated with Samsung Turkey and deliver the phone to Technical Support. After 10 days they gave me the phone back telling that they tried a code to unlock it, but it didn't work so they gave back the phone unfixed.
3) I searched for reliable unlocking sites, tried 4 of them but no result. Now i am also coping with refunds..
4) I take the risk and tried custom ROMs hoping that it would help but it also did not solve my problem as i found out that region lock is not a security system that is bound with the firmware..(as my understanding it is a whitelist that is embedded with the baseband (?) (bios?))
5) The last thing i tried was changing the firmware, i removed the TTT (Trinidad&Tobago) firmware and installed Saudi Arabia Firmware.. But no solution..
Now i have a 800$ phone (not even including the extra fees to register the phone in Turkey…) and not working as a phone...HOW NICE!!
Regards,
P.S. HELP MEEEEE!!!! (((
Gosh it should be working.

Wrong IMEI

Hi,
I have a SAmsung Galaxy S5 SM-900F (the european/international LTE version)
and i can't make calls or send messages, checked my IMEI and it was wrong, not the same as the one in the back of the phone.
So the EFS partition is messed up, any help please to restore the original IMEI?

Sorry to hear about your difficulties. If you have a backup, then that will resolve your issue. Or if your phone is under warranty, then a warranty claim will aid you.
However, as a quick search would have shown you, this forum doesn't allow discussions about manipulating IMEI numbers as that is often abused. Google will locate the information you need on some other site.

I guess you bought it second hand for a very `good` price, if so it seems you got scammed.
no luck for me then
is anyone kind to PM me with the steps to repair it, if it's allowed in the forums of course.
anyway i'm trying different methods found in google for other galaxy phones.

Sim card not working.. modem required ?

i9500 Build no. LRX22C.I9500XXUH0A7....
I managed to screw up my modem by flashing a custom rom's modem since then I can't find the one for my current stock based russian lollipop rom.
Plz plz help me, My sim card isn't working anymore. What are possible sollutions now ?
Thanks in advance.
There are no custom ROM modems.
All modems are extracted from official Samsung ROMs.
Your options are to flash modems until you find a working one or flash the stock ROM altogether.

what? That's already a stock one, ain't it ? what do you mean by altogether ?
I had this exact issue a month after purchasing the device. In my case, it turned out that the issue was the SIM card tray failing. You'll need to open up the device and replace the SIM card tray, a job which takes about ten minutes.
Finally found out it's problem with IMEI no / EFS?? Anyway to recover that ?
If you don't have a backup of your EFS, you're screwed. The device will have to be serviced.
Try flashing a stock rom to the phone. Sometimes, this will restore the imei.

Unfortunately EFS contains sensitive data from a device. If you lost your IMEI you may want to bring over your phone to a phone service.

I hope it was possible.but let me make u understand my points:-
1.There is no service center which is accepting an old phone like s4,they all are saying we can't serve this phone anymore.
2.Its out of warranty so even if it was possible it would cost around 40$ here which i don't think is a possible amount to be paid for(considering point 3).
3. The only hope i get is go out and find some local service center who could repair this but I've searched the whole city and the situation is the best guy i found said it cant be done I could replace your motherboard for 40$.
So the only option i get is get someone's s4 efs backup and restore it manually by editing through hex editor and restoring my stock imei. So please help me.
@vaibhav.2kumar: Restating your request isn't going to help you any. The EFS partition contains the IMEI of the phone, although nv_data.bin is now stored elsewhere. If one of the forum members were to offer their EFS, they would be committing an illegal act. This site is hosted in the United States, and in the United States cloning an IMEI is illegal. Period. The person offering the EFS would at best be banned, and at worst open up XDA to legal action. Thus no one can provide you a copy of their EFS partition.
I seriously cannot believe that Samsung service centers are unwilling to service the S4. Especially as in the United States they were still available for purchase through prepaid carriers such as Straight Talk up until the end of last year and possibly into the early portion of this year. So I have to question whether you truly tried to get this device serviced, which is what you need to do, or are trying to con someone out of their IMEI so a blacklisted phone can be used again.

Maybe if i cant get your s4's efs. But i can demand help from you I'll show you my s4's bill my id proof and my s4's box and you can compare all those imei's and thus help me in restoring my imei by changing your efs backup at least and by the way i dont live in us. I live in india for your details. If you could, please help me get my phone's imei back with legal actions i would really be helpful of you.
PS. Yes I've tried all the service centers in my city.period.
Clearly you are not quite comprehending what is being said. I'll try and simplify things for you.
1. Demanding help only makes readers not want to help you.
2. If none of the Samsung authorized service centers in your home city are willing to do the work, start looking outside the city.
3. The only legal option is to send your device to a service center.
If the service centers are truly unwilling to service the S4 (highly doubtful), then you're going to be purchasing a newer device.

Was I scammed or is this a "real" phone?

Context: Bought a an s8 for cheap, model number comes up as g950fd, went about installing stuff then went to get a sim card the next day.
Aaaannddd I can't connect to my network, and upon checking i have no imei number, and my baseband is uknown. Only thing I have is a serial # that comes up "clean" upon checking on sndeep.info
I casually browse/lurk this forum so I'm not gonna ask for IMEI advice. Rather I'd like to know if I should be going after this dude (who has about 2 days head start I guess), or I can take this somewhere to have it "fixed"?
p.s. I'm in the philipines so IMEI services aren't illegal (I think?)
Thanks!
Best thing to do is to reinstall firmware with smart switch software. If after that it still says no imei and no baseband then whoever you bought the phone off, they messed up the efs possibly.

The only thing i would say about that, is this phone was locked to a network, and someone used a software to unlock it. But the issue with unlocked phone from their network, is that you might lose the IMEI, and i you lose that, you might not be able to use the phone properly. My only suggestion is to go to sammobile.com and download one of the ROMs from there, yet you need to know which network it was in before the happen to it. I think you need to speak with the buyer and ask about the name of the network.
You're basically scammed.
because the previous owner did rootings and stuffs i guess, (check if warranty is 0x0 instead of 0x1.)
If you've rooted and played around system files, wipes etc. You will probably lose your imei @ 10% chance possibility?
Unless you have a EFS Partition backed up before hand from this phone from TWRP. You're basically screwed?

I would follow this advice. This is about the same options i would do my self.Sometimes IEMIs can get messed up with basebands and such so no harm in trying stock restores but most def contact seller and return it if possible
Thanks for all the feedback guys. I'll try and get my money back but if this was done with prior knowledge that the phone was wonky my bet is he's gone.
As for the technical advice, will definitely look into it as I'm a complete novice. Will update when something comes up.

Don't panic just yet! I'm actually super new back into the android game, ditched iphone a few weeks ago and got myself an s8. I started looking into rooting my phone since the last time I rooted an android phone was back when T-mobile had their G1's. So, I thought I had to really re-educate myself upon what android now has to offer. Well, going through different sites, and the different models, versions, variants, etc about the s8, I did come across the G950FD. It's a legit phone. I believe (and feel free to correct me if i'm wrong) they were only sold in India, unlocked, and dual sim! The sim tray in the phone can either hold 2 sim cards, (1 nano sim, 1 micro sim) or if you preferred to extend the capacity instead, the slot for the micro sim, can hold a micro SD card instead, since they're the same size, give or take. The reason it doesn't have an IMEI nor baseband is because the dual-sim capability, thus why the serial number comes back clean. You weren't scammed, you're actually quite lucky since those versions of the s8 were sold in India, and you managed to come into possession of one, for cheap, yet alone a phone everyone here thought was a scam as well. I wish I could have one! But unfortunately, here in the states, I have a CDMA carrier and dual-sim phones don't support it. But heres a link to the source of your awesome new phone! Now you can relax! You not only got an s8, you have a rare one! Enjoy it!
EDIT: I tried to link you to the source, but being a new member I couldn't. However, if you search for Samsung g950fd, it should link you to the Samsung website, where your phone is it. Hope this has helped you feel more at ease with your phone!
G950fd is an international version. I believe the FD has an unlockable bootloader, which makes it sought after. Somebody probably wiped efs In Recovery by accident.

Can we tone the FUD down a bit? "Rootings and stuffs" does not equate a 10% chance of losing your imei. There is a 0% chance of that happening. There is a 100% chance of that happening if you mess up and explicitly do it yourself, but even that is pretty hard to accomplish.
There are more than enough legitimate cautionary tales and lessons to be learned from this to spread around. Let's not ad not only unnecessary (and incorrect) information needlessly
So spent the last couple of days on a wild goose chase. Long story short, guy's gone.
So, novive me is gonna follow the guides on here. I've skimmed a through a few and would like some clarification before i end up messing this phone up even more.
What "stock rom" should i be looking for?
And for what model in the sense that the phone's model number is G950fd, but the Google play store tags it as g950f. Is that one letter difference important? Did this guy change the model name? Is there a way to double check?
Sorry if I'm coming off as paranoid. I've never done a flash before, nor have i ever been in this kind of situation.
Thanks!
Well, there's still hope. The seller had to possibly tampered with the firmware before giving it away towards you. Advice given before hand about re-flashing the firmware is strongly recommended to double check if everything is correct. You can either use sammobile.com or updato.com whichever you would prefer. since you have the SM-G950FD version, put that model number in the search bar and get the most up-to-date fw you can get. Use ODIN to re-flash the firmware back onto your phone and wait a couple of minutes to see if everything is back to normal. If the baseband and IMEI is still unknown, then we'll have to see another method to get it back to normal. But for now, re-flash the stock firmware.
Edit: Tell me what carrier you're using and i'll supply you with a link to the firmware you need, for now, download ODIN from here if you don't have it yet: https://samsungodin.com/

Ok so I'm going through the available firmwares in the Philippines and they have ones available for the g950fd. They do not have any available for the g950f.
Now, I'm scared bec the Google play store says my phone is NOT a g950fd, and is in fact a g950f. I also don't have a sim2 label on my sim card tray.
Is there a way to double check what model i actually have?

The only way to find out for sure what phone model you have is to put your phone in download mode. There you'll see your phone number. That's the only accurate way. Anything else it's useless. What Google play store show, what phone number is shown on settings it's irrelevant. The phone model listed by Google play store or on your phone settings can be changed very easy but editing a simple line on build.prop.
Now about your phone. From what you described it's obvious that you have your EFS partition corrupted. Without a backup of your EFS partition you're screwed. You can download and flash whatever firmware you want. It's just a waste of time. Flashing another firmware will not going to fix it. You have a backup of EFS partition? If yes, then it's great. Search for a guide for restoring EFS partition. If not, stop wasting your time. The result can be only one: a very expensive paperweight.
Ah thanks, so according to download mode I indeed have a g950f and not aG950fd - efs professional also shows the same thing
How screwed am I now that:
a. i'm apparently running on firmware that tags the unit as G950fd
b. sammobile doesn't show any G950f firmware for the philippines
c. i have no idea where this phone has been prior to my purchasing it
thanks

Doing some research, there isn't any philippine fw for the g950f, hence the firmware being g950fd. I'll try to edit more with more info to find.
I am disappointed by all the FUD and paranoid advice in this thread so far.

Install the following app from playstore - Samsung Phone Info
And then post screenshot of each tab. MAKE SURE to hide IMEI and Serial number if visible in any screenshot.
If you are not sure how to do that, then you can PM me the screenshots or your telegram handle to take this conversation private.
There is no need to panic when there are ways to ascertain.

When I buy a device I expect it to have A IEMI also I dont expect to have to fix it myself....
Please next time take this into consideration with your disappointment As Most of the advice in this thread is legitimately correct AS no one should have to Fix it contacting the orig seller and then reflash correct firmware is proper steps.Just because you do not feel it is Does not make it "disappointing"

HELP NEEDED - Restore original EFS / IMEI & Baseband for Galaxy S8+

So by complete freak accident I copied over a TWRP backup of my mom's Galaxy S6 which was running an S8+ port ROM, and I restored it to my S8+ by accident - TWRP restored that backup to my S8+ and obviously I was unable to boot, but also my EFS & baseband was ruined because it tried to restore the Galaxy S6 EFS and baseband to my S8+ :crying: :crying: so now after flashing back a normal Galaxy S8+ ROM I can't make any calls/etc as expected.
I do have an EFS backup of my phone but that backup is stored in a computer which is in another country, and I won't have access to it for another 3 months...
Anyways, I was hoping if there was anyone that could help me repair my S8+ IMEI. I only have $5 USD in my Paypal that I could pay, I know its not much but I would really appreciate any help with this. I also have some balance in an SMM panel that I could give as additional compensation if someone is interested in that too. Thanks
EDIT: Nevermind, fixed by @ZeroXO
Thanks and best regards

Imei are cert based on s8s. I'm not gonna give any sites. But imei repair is a Google search not here. Since you damaged the cert based imei possibly it will cost a lot more than 5 USD. Going rates I've seen are about 100 or so USD. So of some one could get you a copy of that efs sent to you your gold of not I would find a backup til you can repair it

Hello, I had a similar issue with a galaxy S8, I contacted Samsung, they told me to use the "galaxy-s-unlock" app, which requires Busybox. And for me it worked ! Maybe you can try on the s8 sd
