What modifications would you recommend? - Moto G4 Questions & Answers

Hi, and thanx for the chance to introduce myself. My name is Tom and I've only just realized that anyone can make modifications to their Android phone. I found XDA when I googled a search for how to jailbreak my Verizon Moto Z Play, I take it from reading posts that unlocking it is not possible yet. (Hopefully soon).
For now I am using an XT1607 Moto G4 Play which I bought with the SIM unlocked and I've also Unlocked the bootloader. It has Android 6.0.1 I'm looking forward to learning how to develop my own apps, and maybe OS but for now I'm wondering what modifications would be recommended for the Moto G4 play? I'm not familiar with the various firmware and software modifications and though I've found some apps to add, I would welcome suggestions for those as well.
Thanx, and Semper Fi to any of my USMC brothers!
Tom

Anyone working on a Root?

I see theres but one root thread on this device and even that one is just for beta testing and not stable. Is there anyone working on getting this device rooted?
I haven't tested this so don't take my word on it, but a user on the Moto G4 Plus forums with a XT1622 (normal moto g4) used this guide and rooted their phone. This relies on the G4 Plus build on TWRP working on the G4 which I don't know if it does
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/root-systemless-rooting-supersu-2-74-2-t3405772
I've done it according to the indicated link and it works.
how many new features we can get after root?

New to "Moto X", is this the latest "Unbranded" Rom?

Just bought my New Moto X Style today (Im in UK).. Ive been looking around XDA and I just wanted to check that I am running the latest Rom and is it UInbranded as Ive never used a Moto X before, so I dont know their firmware names system, so:
Thanks all
Yes, this is the current official release.
Build number is the important piece... 18-4 is the 4th update/patch to the current build, the important piece is MPHS24.49-18-4 and that's what too look for.
Thanks for Rom info friend.. always keen to learn what Im using and what to look for when updating / flashing..
Appreciated

XT1626 + Custom ROM = NO Digital TV!

Hello guys! I have the MOTO G4 non Plus, Brazilian version xt1626 and comes with digital TV option.
When I install custom ROMS I lose the function of the TV because the app in the play store informs that it is not compatible. Is there any way around this?
Thank you!

An apk from apkmirror somewhere, there is an exclusive version for xt1626?
What I get until now:
For android 7.0 NPJS25.93 (in Motorola Moto G4 Dual TV XT1626), the app com.motorola.dtv (TV digital-com.motorola.dtv-1010162-v01.01.0162.apk) needs:
* com.motorola.dtvservice (Serviço TV digital-com.motorola.dtvservice-1010088-v01.01.0088.apk)
* com.motorola.fmplayer (FMRadioService.apk) to get the antenna
* some libs, like "libdtvhal.so" and "libdtvtuner.so"
* and a lot of permissions...
I decompile the com.motorola.dtv to find more things, but I lost until now a week to make this app to work and nothing...
Maybe someone with more time can use tracers, like appmon, to get this app working in custom rom...
Are there any custom roms that run the tv on xt1626?

After unlocking your device, one of the first things you'd want to do is install a Custom Recovery like TWRP or CMD. I use TWRP. You can search four your device and download the correct file here: https://twrp.me/Devices/
This will allow you to create backups of your system, install Custom Roms (modified OS), give you root access and install modified apps, to name some things.
So once you installed a custom recovery, you might want to try a cusrom rom. They offer some great extra features. Just make sure to create a full backup (also called "nandroid") in TWRP before, just in case something goes wrong.
One of the most popular, stable and fluid ones is LineageOS: https://download.lineageos.org . It hasn't got so many extra features but works great!
An other good rom for what I've heared is InvictaOS. It's a bit more customizable than lineage and works great as well.
An other good thing to do is root your phone. You can achieve this by installing magisk's zip it TWRP, and then installing the Magisk Manager .apk. You can download both from the magisk thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445
This will work on your stock rom as well as on custom roms.
Install Adaway to remove popup add like videos in games: https://adaway.org (root needed for this)
An other cool mod is this modified youtube app to remove all adds from videos and allow to play with the screen off or the app in the background: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-iytbp-injected-youtube-background-t3560900
All the information you need is in the first, second and third post.
I'd probably recomend the third post method, using the magisk module. It's the easiest one, you just have to download the file for you CPU architecture (arm for moto g4) and install it in the magisk manager, in the modules section pressing the "+" icon (Root also needed for this).
You can find guides to all of this on youtube, and always read all the instructions before trying anything.
Many of your questions will have most likely already been asked, so also search the threads before asking something.
Good luck!

Moto E4 Need to Install Android 9

Hi guys,
Totally out of the android world since years, however currently using Moto E4 and need to install a good Custom ROM to have Android 9 installed on this. Can anyone please check the screenshot and let me know if that's possible? If so, what process should I follow and which ROM should I go for?
Thanks in advance!
Not possible ATM. There is no pie roms to flash, your best bet is lineage os 14.1if you want up-to-date security patches.
Thanks for the response. I have heard that custom ROM can't be installed on Moto E4 Verizon. Is that true? I heard that it's bootloader cant be unlocked so how would I install the ROM? I'd highly appreciate if you could help me here.
Actually I use Slack and they have deprecated their app and it requires Android 8 or above. So, I'm stuck for now lol
Thanks!
