How to add exFat Driver for Yoga Book Android? - Lenovo Yoga Book Questions & Answers

Hi. I bought Yoga book last week. I was looking for the 10-inch Android tablet that has the almost latest processor, and not from Huawei or Samsung. But I couldn`t find anything better than Yoga book. (Asus 3S was nominated but it has too bad reviews)
I`m wondering how to add exFat Driver to use exFat format micro sd memory. I heard that in order to use exFat memory, I need to do rooting first then add exFat Driver.
Here are questions.
1. Is there any instruction or success case to rooting for Yoga Book? Can you guys give me a link for it?
2. Let's say I succeed to add exFat driver, then if yoga book firmware updated, then do I need to add exFat driver again?
Thank you in advance.

You don't have to root your Yoga Book to have exFat capabilities. It's build-in... Format your SD card on a Windows PC or straight on your Yoga Book.
Setting > Storage > SD Card > Use the three "Dots Menu" on the upper right corner > Choose Format

I'm fairly sure that formats the card as FAT32, which is fine, unless you have files greater than 4GB.
There are root intstructions for the Yoga Book available on here. In short:
-Unlock bootloader
-Boot (don't flash) TWRP
-Flash Magisk.
I've tried flashing a exfat and NTFS package developed for the Yoga Tab 3 Pro which has a similar Intel Atom chipset. The package script relies on SuperSU which Magisk doesn't have. Someone might be able to modify it to work with Magisk/Systemless Root, but it's beyond me.

It is for Fat32.
Thank you for your answer!

Does Yoga book don`t let the flash TWRP?
I saw that don`t flash TWRP many times.

Boo! I want to use my Yoga Book for work but I need the Yoga Book to be able to read multiple formatted USB Drives. When a client has information on a USB drive and we need to access it I cannot because it is formatted as exFat. Please Lenovo if you read this, please allow the Yoga Book to be able to read multiple formats The recent update makes this a completely new machine. Thank you for not giving up. Also any ideas on how to make this book read formats other than just fat32, please let me know

[Q] Considering A500 for purchase, couple of questions.

I did do a search under all of A500, which was related to this but did not get an exact answer.( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1085361&highlight=FAT32 )
I am considering buying the Iconia Tab A500. Trying to do as much research as possible, as my step #1 with any tablet would be rooting. I have been reading reviews and was very surprised to see this on a http://reviews.cnet.com/tablets/acer-iconia-tab-a500/4864-3126_7-34644168-18.html?tag=userReviews;summaryList.
Where the guy says:
The Iconia works great with USB wireless mouse and keyboards, detects all flash drives or drives (formatted as FAT or FAT32 - limitation of Honeycomb)

This i very surprising to hear on a linux kernel and I would think this is very limiting.
Is this true even on a rooted machine?
Is this just a matter of fact with Honeycomb?
Please teach me of wise one(s)..
Thanks.
Honeycomb unrooted will support keyboards, mice, and FAT/FAT32 flash drives without a problem. You can also gain NTFS support by rooting.
Its a kernel limitation. With that, however, there are several roms and kernels in the development section that add ext4, hfs, ntfs support.
If this post was helpful, give thanks
I guess the two downfalls I see with FAT32
1) File size
2) Will file transfer from my linux box be in only one direction (from the linux box to the tab) because the tab cannot read the file structure of the other machine? (In my case I have a dual boot machine with 2 NTFS partitions, 1 ext4 and 1 swap)

These guys talk back and forth between their Linux boxes and their tabs I believe.
I think you'll get a quicker response to your question there?

When you plug the tab to a computer (Linux or Windows, maybe Mac? not sure), your OS will mount what it sees. For me, my Win7 laptop mounts the internal SD card of the tab, and so does my Ubuntu box. When the card is mounted, I just copy files to it or from it by dragging and dropping. This is what I do with large fiels.
This is of course not practical for very large files, but for smaller files (like music albums, etc.) you of course have the option of using samba (SMB) or ftp/scp for moving files back and forth between your Linux box and the tab on your wlan. What I've done is that I mostly just copy stuff from my Linux box through samba, just share a folder, set it to copy. Sometimes I plug in the tab and transfer files over the cable. I have a pretty elaborate home network setup with bunch of stuff shared there, so it's usually easier for me to just copy things straight off of the network shares than to go unplugging usb drives from the server they're normally at and plugging them straight to the tab. So that's why I haven't really missed the option of mounting more other file systems, I just generally tend to use the tools (smb / ftp) that don't require actual mounting, just connecting.

[Q] ext3 as an alternative for ntfs

I have portable hard disk which doesn't get detected on my stock a500 if I format it as ntfs. I was thinking why should I use ntfs if I can use ext3 on my acer a500 and windows 7.
My problem with fat32 is that I can't copy files larger the 8gb.
Can anyone help me get started by answering below quetions.
How do I format my hard drive to ext3?
Will iconia a500 can read the drive natively?
How to enable windows 7 to read and write to ext3?
If you're running 3.2 it should, had no problem on mine...
There are apps out there that will format to ext3, Easius partition manager is a free one, but windows does NOT recognise the linux file structure. There might be apps that allow it to be read but since I don't need I haven't looked....
Just remember that its fairly easy to format to ext3 but might be harder trying to format back to fat32 or ntfs....
thanks for your quick reply. I will search for available software for windows 7.
The software exists for Windows 7 but it isn't the most glamorous. I used an app called ext2explore. My AV on windoze sees it as a virus but it isn't. It works with ext3 and ext4 formatted hard drives too.
If your tab is rooted you can install drivemount from the market. It allows your tab to read NTFS files, as well there are custom ROMS that allow it too. That might actually be easier than getting Windoze to read your ext partitions.
You are rite hardslog. After Googling and finding softwares that would not enable me to work the way I want I finaly came to the conclusion it's best to leave it as is. I think it's bit simpler to root it and get ntfs mount, then trying to get windows 7 to recognize ext3.
Thanks for the reply.

Anytime! Or you could format your Windoze computer and put something like Ubuntu on it!

Tutorial: how to use a nfts microsd in your p6800

I confirm it!
1 format your mocro sd on nfts using wimdows 7
2 insert the card in your 7.7 and dont care of the tablet says that the card is invalid
3 launc mount drive that is free on android market
4 unchek device filtering
5 select the last bottom drive that is the only one nfts drive avaiable
6 tap the upper right button, the one that have the icon of a drive
7 now you should see in the right colum your drive with a bar thar rapresents the free space, if you cant see this, reselect the nfts drive on the left colum and retap the mount drive icon (upper right) until you can see the drive mounted on the right colum.
8 when your drive is mounted you can find the drive folder with a root enable file manager like honeycom fm hd, the folder is under the system folder named mnt
Tht is all it works fine amd you cam close the app drive mount, the tablet comtinue to recognize the nfts micro sd wothout the app running. Now i can put my hd movies larger than 4 gb inside my micro sd and play them with my 7.7
The only problem is that tje sistem apps are setted to save thinks in mnt/externaldevice, so if you want save you movies or photos taked with the 7.7 camera inside your microsd you cant do it, you have to move them from your tablet memory to your microsd nfts using a file manager, but this is a little problem nothing of big
If any brave user is able to tweak the camera app to save the moviesnor photo inside the path mnt/nftsdrive please do it, after this all is perfect. Thanks
thanks!
btw, it's called NTFS, not nfts
Yes you are right, i do ever this mistake xD
Do you need to root your tab ?
Yes root is needed
Thanks.
I got it to work.
But there is a problem.
How can I transfer a 6 GB file to my 64 GB SD card using usb cable connected from my desktop to the Tab 7.7 ?
Currently I have to take out my SD card from my tab and using an adapter to transfer the movie to it (from my desktop to the SD card).
This is a tedious process and I don't want to keep taking the SD card in and out of my tab. I want to transfer my big movie file straight from my PC to the tab when it is connected via USB cable.
Currently, when I connect the tab to my desktop, I only see the internal storage of the tab and not the external NFTS sd card.
yes i know, this is a big problem, but unfortunatly i am unable to solve it, becouse the sd is mounted in a different place,in the origins the card id in mnt/externalstorage, but with the app drive mount tha parh is different..

perhaps softlinking the path may help?
it can help, but how to do this?
Maybe by transfering from your desktop to the tab using Samba through your local network (ie wifi instead of USB) and a SAMBA app on the GTAB ?

Yes i know this method, but this is only wifi , it is more slow than usb. To do this just install astromanager and configure a spb network with the ip of your computer, after this share a folder from your pc and then you can copy files from your pc to your tab microsd via wifi
I've just made an app to mount NTFS sdcard.
It allows you to use it like normal FAT32 sdcards,
working with Stock camera app or MTP file transfer.
Could anyone try this?
I'm going to put this to android market
and I've already purchased a developer account,
but it seems to take some time to be able to upload my app...
My English is not good, I know
If there are any weird wording, let me know.
** alpha version **
** only for root users **
** only for Galaxy Tab 7.7 ... for now **
This app is to mount SD Card using NTFS.
/mnt/sdcard/extStorages/SdCard is the root of sdcard.
Auto-mount when the Android OS starts.
Or you can mount/unmount it manually.
** Not Bug **
- If you don't do "Safely Remove Hardware"
when you take your sdcard from PC,
it takes some time to mount it.
** Confirmed Issues **
- Only NTFS sdcard use assumed.
This app may prevent using FAT sdcard.
- Once unmounted, even after you mount again manually,
Android OS don't detect the sdcard.
You can access it with file managers or other apps,
but stock camera and settings app don't.
(Let me know if you know any solutions for this.)
- At the first attempt to mount (and get permission for su),
Android OS could fail to detect the sdcard.
It may be caused by delay of Superuser asking if it's ok or not.
- No error handling

Perfect app!! it works fine.
For this point

It is not enought to restart the device in order to let android and camera/gallery to recognize the ntfs card ? This will solve the problem?

Thank you!
Of course, after rebooting the device,
sdcard can be mounted and Android OS detect it as usual.
It seems initial booting and inserting sdcard trigger detecting process,
but I don't know how to let the os to do it by my app.
dont worry your app is awesome as it is it is not a big problem to reset for make it functional after the unmount, just specify it when you sell in android market. Thanks so much for the app
Pretty great app to bad i left my 7.7 at home once i get home this will be the first thing i try. Btw any plan for galaxy note ver too?

I think it's possible to improve this app to work on galaxy note,
I don't have one though.
All I need is sdcard's mount point ( "/mnt/sdcard/external_sd" ? maybe ) and
device name which is like "/dev/block/mmcblkxxx".
If you can get these info, please pm me.
Thanks.
Thanks for awesome apk~
If you have any plan put it on the market, plz let us know.
We will support it!!
please hurry up if you want to gain money, becouse the huawei media pad woth ics of my girls can read ntfs micro sd, i think that with the ics update the p6800 will read the ntfs from defoult.

[Q] External SD card problems

I have spent over 8 hours yesterday researching, reading posts, trying to partition my SD card for an A500 with:
1. 2 Partitions
2. FAT32
3. Primary
I don't have an andriod phone so it is not an option to format it by connecting the phone to the computer. I have rooted my tablet and installed Titanium backup, android assistant, superuser and link2sd. The problem that I am having is the tablet is not recognizing either the first or second partition because it does not have a drive letter. When I assisgn it a drive letter and set up all the specs listed above and click apply, the program tells me it has successfully completed but then immediately replaces the second primary partition drive letter with an *. From my hours of reading yesterday I understand that my computer does not recognize a second primary partition so therefore replaces the drive letter with an *. I have tried mini tool partition wizard and easeus and both produce the same results. PLEASE HELP. Thanks in advance
i'm fairly sure your card MUST be formatted using android....
u could try SDformatter but it didnt work for me,
not sure if it can be done thru linux, maybe someone who knows more about these things can advise you
what is it you are trying to achieve with the 2 partitions - there maybe other options available to you

How solve sd card not recognized after adb-partitioning?

Using ADB, I successfully added a 32GB sc-card to the internal storage of my Galaxy Tab S5e tablet.
Then I realized that it is not big enough.
Unfortunately, I removed the sd-card without converting it back to an external memory card.
Then I put in a 64GB sd-card and did the procedure again with ADB.
But now neither the old nor the new card is recognized.
"No existing sd-card"
On the net I have already found posts that only a hardreset is possible to fix this.
I still hope that it also works with certain ADB commands.
With the command `mount` I unfortunately can't find the inserted sc-card either.
Does anyone know advice?
Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version)
Yes, a Factory Reset is recommended.
I did the reset. And after I made the basic settings I found out that the sd-card still isn't recognized.
Even a new formatting using the Win10 tool didn't help at all.
Then I switched to my Linux that I prefer for daily work and with using gParted I saw that there was a small partition in it in exfat plus an allocated one. I deleted the first one and then
I could use the sd-card with formatting it inside the tablet.
Although I can't find it out I asked myself if the formatting with a linux tool would have helped solving my issue before, without having to do a hardreset.
Anyway, it is working now, and I avoid using adb again for trying to make the card part of internal storage.
