Common issues and how to test for them? - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

Off the top of your head, what are some issues that are common with the Axon 7 and how can one test for these issues? I just ordered a new Axon 7 and I want to be sure to check for all issues before my 30 day return window ends. So far I know about signal strength issues, WiFi connectivity issues, slow charging issues and battery life issues.

Issues I have had (on two different Axon 7 devices):
1. microphone does not work at the start of a phone call, until you turn speakerphone on and off.
2. Videos you record (in just 4k on the first phone, but in all resolutions on the second one), have a clicking noise in the background, even in a very quiet room, even in different locations. It's some internal sound the phone generates and is present in recorded videos. I just checked, and it's also there on recorded audio. Basically, this phone has great speakers and total junk for microphones.

OIS, use the camera while moving the device a bit. If it does weird noises then return it

The capacitive buttons can be hard to trigger - they have a small hit box. Once I turned on "vibrate on touch" I was able to use them a lot better. Some people complain that they don't work at all though.
Android Pay might not work - you could get an error like:
Android Pay can't be used on this device. This may be because your device is rooted, has an unlocked bootloader, or is running a custom ROM. As a result, Google can't confirm that your device meets Android Pay's security standards.
I'm in the process of trying to update to the latest system version to see if that resolves the issue.

So far I have only tested for the OIS problem and the ticking in recorded video. No problem with OIS but it DOES have an occasional tick sound in recorded video. I suspect that this is the case with virtually all A7s and not worth doing an RMA over. Luckily it's not too bad and I never record video anyway.

I was able to resolve the android pay issue by doing an sdcard update to bring my phone to the most current version - B25. Here's a link to the thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/help/stuck-a2017uv1-0-0b17-sd-card-update-to-t3624389

The reception results from my app have bee very odd, it's either -1 dbm or around -100 using network monitor at my house. Obviously this reading is erroneous. When I look at the KLWP live reading it tends to stay just below 100. I have 5 bars but -100 signal, it does make me think that they fudged the signal strength indicator to give a better impression. To be fair, my previous phone was consistently around -97 so the difference is minor, but at least it gave an indication that reception was low. The old phone also had the excuse of not picking up band 12 (T-Mobile). Time to witch providers for sure. I don't guess there are any ways to improve this? Oh, I also only received the N 7.1.1 B15, not sure what I can do about that.

It's not like an RMA will magically fix the signal strength issue so that's not really something you should focus on. I usually get 70% LTE coverage on a daily 30km trip in the almost 3rd world country that I live in anyways...
To update, you have to download the official ZIP from the ZTE support page (search "zte usa support" on Google, select the axon 7 unlocked), download it, unzip it if there's another zip inside, put the zip on the root of the internal storage of your phone, go to settings --> Updates

[30/09/11] [Q] [DEV] Reception problems during movement and in general

Hello everyone,
Since the beginning of the Android period, I've been experiencing reception problems, as well as a few friends of mine. The phone is continually searching for signal and losses it quickly, jumps from HSDPA to other means, and also has the problem of regaining the signal after going through a tunnel etc.
I am not a developer myself, but was wondering if anyone else was experiencing the same problems and if there is anything to be done about it.
I know there was a slight fix introduced not too long ago in Tytungs kernel, but for me things still pretty suck.
If you have something to say about this, please do. Otherwise, a mod can handle the positioning of this thread. No need to start flaming if you have nothing to say.
All Hail XDA!!
Cheers,
Chovav
Thread reported to forum mod, Why don't you realise even after placing [Q] in the heading that you need the Q&A forums.
As for your concerned problem, i havn't faced that till now except for the fact i have data drops seldomly.
I have the same problem. I've tested several ROM, radios, Magldr clk...
I always use the *#*#4636#*#* trick. But I always have to return to 2G only.
I think that there must be different kind of hardware that avoid getting a decent signal level.
I tried the Probable Hardware Fix For HD2 Poor Signal too. I have better reception but no as solid as with 2G
I love the phone but when I use only 2G I want to cry (almost everytime).
Thanks in advance, Paco
Just something I would like to throw out there, I also have reception issues on ANY rom, but its occurrence seems to be like the original iPhone 4 came out, terrible reception if you squeeze the whole phone with your hand. I prove that theory by doing that in my room, if i dont touch the phone (just the screen) and browse the web, I do it with full bars. But as soon as I pick up the phone and browse, it will drop very quickly to 1 or no bars (from 4). See if you can trial this yourself, put phone down and browse web, and then hold the phone and try it. See if that makes a difference. Does for me.
There was a thread a while back about this and it showed a screen that you can get to that shows how long you have had signal and I remember looking at it in mine and it showed that I was without signal at least a third of the time the phone was powered on. I don't remember how to get to it any more or I would show you a screen shot of it. I have constant full bars of H where I am and even not moving the phone still shows this same behavior of dropping connection to the towers.

[Q] Cell signal graphic on "CM9 by elginsk8r"

Just wondering if the appearance of the cell network signal is normal (shows its like half full)
I've flashed a few different radios and none seem to get the signal higher than what looks likes about 50% (as measured by the graphic)
Is this just how the graphic appears?
i can't link because i'm new but the picture is at

Are you losing signal or having reception problems?
Be careful flashing radios too often. A bad flash equals a bricked phone.

Same issue. I use WiFi so much I hadn't noticed it. I am able to get full WiFi bars though. Maybe the software isn't coding to report a high signal even when it's available? I'll have to test this again while standing/driving next to a cell tower.
If the signal is reporting the same at all times no matter what, it's probably b/c he forgot to add a line to the build.prop
I spotted this in zips' older builds and he fixed it when I told him what it was and what he needed to do

I have the same issue. Im guessing its because the build isnt finished yet. Also, do any of you have the wifi calling feature on this rom? When i first got the phone, i can use the wifi calling whenever I am not in range of a signal or something, like in my basement, but now that i flashed my phone I dont have it, and i dont know where to get it from.
Any help would be appreciated
edit system/build.prop and add

[Q] My S5 is slow, and the Data and Wifi rate absolutely suck. Please help me out.

So I've had my S5 for a few months now. It's basically been a dream for the time being.
Now the phone is pissing me off the same way the S4 pissed me off...
Battery life is totally fine, absolutely no complaints at all. My phone lasts for ages except for when I play tons of games on it.
Performance however is quite slow (probably due to lack of RAM).. despite running fstrim, cleaning cache on a weekly basis and using apps like Greenify etc.
The worst thing however is the ridiculous issues I am having with 3G/Data.
I am unsure if it is just my carrier (The largest network in Finland (SONERA)) or if it is my phone.
I made a video here of the EXACT SAME issue with Wifi (data is even WORSE):
http://youtu.be/2zNBV63Dk0U
Basically you see the first 2 pages load up pretty fast. Then what's with the wait on the rest of those pages whilst they are loading?
The speed of my network is 10MB/s up and down. It's a symmetric connection. It shouldn't be slow at all, and ping times are tiny. So why is it taking so long for my phone to resolve the website, regardless of the browser and method of connection (data or wifi) that I use?
Basically my phone will just switch between 3G and H/H+ continuously without actually being connected, or loading pages etc.
So basically I'll be in the middle of the capital city, on Finland's LARGEST network connected to 3G with FULL bars and not have a connection. Yet all around me, people are using their phones without remotely any issue at all on the same network..
Some information about my phone:
Galaxy S 5 (SM-G900F). Stock ROM, never flashed. Towelrooted.
4.4.2. - Baseband G900FXXU1ANE2
Build - KOT49H.G900FXXU1ANE4
Stock Kernel
80+ User Apps installed
Xposed Framework installed
The biggest issue I have is the fact that the Data connection just sucks in 2G or 3G. There's just this huge lag between loading any webpage, where there is literally ZERO data being transferred (I have the speed indicator xposed app), yet the icon just flashes back and forth from 3G to H to H+ and back. No matter what browser I use, and even often on Wi-Fi it's just terrible and there is STILL a huge wait time between pages actually loading. However apps at least seem to download totally fine.
I have my Buffalo N300 router on Wireless N. I am NOT running at 5Ghz, because it drains more battery. My 3G plan is set to 21Mbps, and I should have no throttling or cap. However I RARELY seem to see speeds over 250KB/s and in the centre of Helsinki or anywhere in the outlying (2-3km areas) there's just no data transfer at all. Full bars, but in some cases the entire network will just cut out and say that it is unavailable.
Could it be an issue with my phone's Modem? Could I just flash a newer modem over the current one that I have? The phone is running stock and it shouldn't be so slow, no matter what.
My stupid provider just suggested that I change to a more expensive 4G plan (yeah right, 3G on other providers was never remotely laggy)
Any ideas guys? I'll give you any information that you need to help me out...
..
Well what info do you want from me?
I posted a video of how the pages load so slowly even on Wifi. I told you my router. It's a Buffalo N300. I don't have 5Ghz mode on. It's set to Wireless N. My internet speed is 100/100mbps. I think that is plenty of information.
I also gave my complete phone specs. My knox is 1x1 yes. I gave my baseband etc. above.
What exactly do you need to know about my configuration? It's set to use 3G always. I always seem to have bars of 3G (even if it won't connect) but there is NO data transfer at all. You can see in the video that the speed indicator in the taskbar doesn't show any data being transferred. There's just this large amount of time that it does nothing. The page loading/connection stalls and I have to wait. I've tried multiple browsers too like I said, and more than 1 Wi-Fi network.
If I swap back to 3G or 2G (WCDMA/2G) mode. Then the phone still stays on 3G 99.99% of the time, but there's still NO data transfer. On 2G it will work just slow enough that I can send a whatsapp message. But it won't load a webpage, not even slowly.
My carrier I also explained.. Sonera, the biggest carrier here in Finland, I also even explained the data plan I am on. 3G, 21mbps, no throttling, etc.
P.S. The speedtest in my signature, is my HOME WIFI connection. It has NOTHING to do with my data connection. I'm not talking about my DL speed or throughput, besides those are the speeds I get on my COMPUTER. I get slower speeds on my phone. I am talking about the LAG that I get when I try to open a page. I.E. Why does my phone just stall loading something and make me wait for ages for it to finish? Why does my connection just stop, and page loading just stop 40%-60% or whatever through loading something?
What extra info do you need? You keep saying 'phone congifuration' but I just gave you basically everything. What specific 'phone configuration' info do you need to know?
You know what phone I have, exactly what version, how it is rooted, etc. You know my data provider, my wifi and data speeds. You know the issue that I am explaining that I am experiencing and how it happens. Plus a bunch of other information, what is installed on my phone, my router and its set up. etc. etc. etc.
What more do you need?
Thanks for your reply but. Frankly I think I provided more information than most people do about their problems here.
P.S. Here's another video which shows me getting 12.5x slower speeds than I should be:
http://youtu.be/N0aTikEPbPM
Excuse the exasperation and that accompanies my Australian accent
I got some data issues too.in H+ data just won't move like it should.
I'm using saunalahti.
When i open a web page my 3g turns to h+ . I think that's the way i should work
because nothing happens with 3g.
Nothing mostly happens with my 3G either, it has to be on H to do anything. I am starting to think it's an issue with 'Fast Dormancy' and I might go ahead and disable that.

Yes, you provided considerably more information than most people. Kudos if that makes you feel any better. However as I explained at length it still isn't nearly enough to effectively troubleshoot much. I also spelt out what would be useful to have. Having 60% of the details doesn't complete a puzzle significantly more than 40% would. It narrows things down a bit but you're still in the land of guessing and throwing out common issues hoping that one of them will turn out to be the problem at hand.
There are lots of people who will be happy to pseudo-randomly guess at the problem. And you can try each suggestion in turn until you hopefully hit upon the right one. I'm more interested in methodical troubleshooting which requires much more detailed information. As I described what would facilitate that and you still ask what do I want, I can only assume that you missed reading part of my earlier reply.
Regardless you can either post the details I requested or wait for others to point out how to address commonplace issues that may or may not help your situation.

Are you for real? Practically all of your replies here are "You haven't given us enough information"
You practically know my phone and my data and Wi-Fi as well as I do, from what I have explained.
Now your reply is just paragraphs of you blabbering on about how I still haven't given you enough information for you to help me. If you think you're being constructive here or something replying like this to other people, you really aren't mate. Yes you did explain at length, three times that I didn't give you enough information. Yet you failed, to explain even ONCE exactly what information you want. Except to say "phone configuration" I mean seriously what? That's the most broad term you could possibly use on the forums here. I've explained my phone config, and- actually you know what, I won't do it again. I've explained everything so much and posted TWO VIDEOS of the issues that I am facing. If you seriously don't know enough about my problem then, with all due respect you are of absolutely no help to me what-so-ever.
The worst thing is, I'm usually a patient person and I am grateful for the help I get from other people in the forums here and anywhere else. But every-so-often someone like you comes around and I can't, for the life of me, even fathom as to how to even communicate with you. All of the information is right there in front of you to provide a second opinion or give your personal advice. Yet you're sticking with "You haven't provided enough information". There's nothing else I can do buddy, save actually giving you my phone and letting you look at it.
Also the way at which you seem to post in that I only seem to have 2 options here is really quite ridiculous. That I can either choose to give you more information (What information EXACTLY?) or basically just wait for other people to guesstimate what the issue could be (which I was totally fine with).
If you mean this information:
Or do any testing that might have revealed patterns in your data and wifi rates e.g. speed and latency tests at different times of the day
- What's the point? I explained here and in the videos that this has been happening all the time, for the past month.
with different providers
- I don't have another data provider to test with, I'm not made of money
direct comparisons to other phones on the same connection
- How the f*ck can I get stuff like this? I'm one person on my own, do you suppose I go stand out on the side of the road with a sign on a highway?
ping plots, service menu details about which bands are active and actual signal strengths or anything like that
- Do I look like a scientist to you? How am I supposed to know, and the phone doesn't give me any sort of way natively to even know any of this information
did you do any searches of forums dealing with specific providers e.g. BBR, Hofo, to see if anyone else is having provider issues?
- Yes and lots of people are having the same issues, even someone else replied to this thread stating he had the same issue

That is a ridiculous amount of stuff to ask from someone and I have either given you the details already, or you're asking something that isn't physically possible for me to do.
Personally, I think you're going about this whole 'helping people' thing the wrong way. Like there is some choice between getting your 'professional' advice or something or basically just taking hints and suggestions here and there. I don't remotely agree with the way you post on the forums here. I've provided umpteen times more information than just about anyone else on the forum here, and no, that isn't a compliment to myself. It's a fact.
Ugh, this whole situation is just absolutely ridiculous. It's one thing to wrestle with a phone that isn't working correctly, but then when I come to the forums here for advice, I get replies like yours. Supposed helpful replies that are really just basically spam, constant reiteration of a moot point with equally absolutely no clear, or distinct point, subject or purpose to them at all.
Maybe you should take your own advice and be more specific with what information you want from people if you are going to bother to reply to them at all. Rather than just responding continuously with "We need more information". You represent 1 person on the forum here, and your ideas or advice are no more important or relevant than anyone else's. If you're going to try and help someone, don't confuse a person into thinking that they only have 1 source from which they can receive assistance and that they must first comply with your vague requests before they can get any assistance.
As for this now failure of a thread and my now wasted time replying and taking videos perfectly illustrating the problems I am facing with my phone. I am subsequently going to abandon this thread, unsubscribe from future replies and leave it here as both a documented source that there is an on-going issue (as many others have stated) with data and wifi lag and that for anyone else to perhaps understand your methods of posting better. Because I sure as day don't.
Thanks anyway I guess.
As for anyone else with the same issue. I am going to disable 'Fast Dormancy' and see if that solves my problem. Good luck to others facing the same issue.
..
ignore fffft he has issues.
have you tried your sim in other phones? do they get good data speeds? if i were you i'd flash a modem update and see if that fixed anything. maybe try a prepaid carrier on your phone and see how its network speeds are.
Happened to me too - could be an app on your phone. Check settings to see which apps or using most battery and background services.
Or do what I did, and get an uninstaller to uninstall 70% of your apps you don't use - could make a massive difference!

Gosh.... Can you tell us own many more phone are connected to the same cell as you? This is already a difficult issue to troubleshoot, I guess your videos and long posts are useless. How can you distinguish between a mobile provider problem and a s5 problem?
fffft warned you!
Did you tried the cleanmaster solution?
Having the exact same problems in the US with sprint, I can have 3 or 4 bars of signal and apps report network failures and no data connection, I do not usually have an issue on wifi, but it does happen from time to time.
Rooted with towel
no custom recovery
Multiple frozen system apps
Purchased launch day from Sam's club
Xposed installed, I've disabled most of the modules I installed as they don't seem to work, especially any listed as Samsung specific
Still using TW
Often when the data loss issue occurs the 3g or LTE icon in the notification bar completely disappears, but the signal bar stays in 3-6 bars.
Current battery life seems to have no effect on the issue.
Mine is not just data, there are times the entire phone freezes and becomes unresponsive, taking 20-120 seconds to respond to pressing back or home even, and I get no response to pulling down the notification bar.
I do not use any task killers or battery mods or apps, I did notice a significant increase in occurrences approximately 3 weeks ago and the only thing I recall that I did then was to install hangouts dialer.
The troubleshooting I've done makes me believe the device is "detecting" high temps and turning off or slowing the CPU /GPU cores, thereby causing the apparent 'Lag'.
One incident happened last night, where no part of the phone felt hot, my game did not lose connection, but was on Wi-Fi, but I was getting 1 frame every 2+ minutes for 6 or 7 minutes, then the phone rebooted.
I have started making it a habit of opening Rom toolbox and checking the CPU current settings, during these issues I have never seen the CPU max over 1728 MHz.
The only information I located in a cat log was that frames were dropped and how many. Nothing about temperatures, many lines about IP addresses failing to respond. I do not have a saved catlog handy, but attached are a couple screenshots of data fails with good signal.
If you look, you may notice the warning notifications, those are sync errors with Google photos wanting sign in information for alternate accounts I have on the phone and don't want duplicating my phot backup too (some of my games I play 3 or 4 different accounts).
I will be happy to do any testing suggested as soon as I can and provide additional requested info without insults.
Necropost... Still having this issue, I've been on MOAR, Pac ROM, and Slim. 4.1.1, 4.2, & 5.1.1 android versions. Same problem, on Wi-Fi and Sprint. Phone is about to hit 2yrs old in April. Will be my first and last Samsung I guess... I've had a lot, Nexus is next I think...

[Q] GPS suddenly almost non-functional? Is this possible/software fixes?

Hello,
Recently noticed my GPS barely works. If I'm out in an open field it can get medium strength locking from satellites in GPS Status. My wife has identical phone and gets the type of GPS signal I would expect to get. Side by side my phone simply cannot get much. Indoors forget about it. It use to be so good. I certainly have dropped this phone here and there but in the past it never influenced GPS. Is there any possible software/firmware side of things that could be causing it? I may have installed apps or updated apps but I didn't do any tinkering with the GPS specifically or with flashing roms or whatnot since this summer--and it worked fine then after any tinkering---this is a recent development.
Can anyone provide any ways to troubleshoot this? Possible the GPS chip is partially broken? I mean.. it can get signal.. just piss poor and struggles mightily. Almost can't get it in the car, loses GPS lock under tree cover, etc. Very temperamental.
Seems a little bit like 4G has also degraded but a little more unsure of that.
bump! Any help, methods to trouble-shoot between hardware/software. I tried to erase modemst1/2 see if that would jog anything, no effect.
thanks

tempting..and I will in a few months when my contract is up. But this was a spectacular GPS for navigating in the backcountry with downloaded maps. Would love to be able to retain that use after it is no longer a primary phone.
please, any troubleshooting suggestions would be appreciated!
I've had very few problems since switching to Waze and SlimKat. It was horrid under CyanogenMod no matter what I used.
I had been having similar problems under stock KitKat. Here's what I noticed, maybe something will help you:
Resetting aGPS data and re-downloading wouldn't help.
Sometimes GPS would never give a location with plenty of satellites locked to. I modified some build.prop stuff to give me a horribly inaccurate lock in these cases. It was also usually fixed with a reboot.
GPS status would show TONS of satellites overhead, but never be able to lock on to more than one of them. Making sure I had wifi turned on (even if I was in the middle of nowhere with no wifi signals) eliminated this problem.
Something would randomly disable the GPS while I was using it, when it turned it back on a short time later it wouldn't lock (usually due to one of the above issues). I eventually concluded it was how Google Maps and some of the new location stuff works these days. I assume it's trying to save GPS power, other programs were much better. Solution: F Google maps; I only use it as a fancy yellow pages these days. I had stuck with the old, old, version (that still supported Latitude), but had to update when I went to KK and that's when my problems started. This is just another thing that pisses me off about it. I use Waze for navigation now (though I miss lane guidance and using my own text to voice software).
Some GPS bugs can be resolved by flashing to stock firmware, getting a GPS lock and while locked on GPS, reboot straight to recovery and flash your new ROM. After doing that once I have flashed (too) many ROMs with no GPS locking or accuracy issues.
Also make sure your GPS is set to high accuracy and not battery saver.

ezdi and kronik.. thank you for suggestion. unfortunately to no avail even with full reset.
sometimes really seems like my general phone reception, wifi, gps, and data (1x/3G, 4G) are all haywire. Certainly they all work. But the data is never as strong as it should be. Often seems like it needs to be jogged (airplane mode on, then off)/dead areas--while my wife's phone is solid (same razr m but rooted with unlocked BL and stock rom). Likewise on the GPS. it can certainly find and lock satellites but in GPS Status only ever reach 'half bar' strength green.. they use to be able to lock multiple sats at max level.
It's odd...we are talking about the 'radios' of my phone, no? or mostly? I generally consider digital electronics to either function, or not. That they function at all--can receive pings from a satellite, can transmit data to and from towers... tells me the electronics are functional and this is software side. UNLESS there is some radio hardware component that is an amplifier of sorts. If that electronic was broken it would make sense why things function but appear weak/spotty.
thoughts?
aside from my contract being up in a month and what the hell next phone I should get from verizon... haha. But no I'd love to get my phone back to where it was and have a dedicated backcountry/hiking/skiing GPS... which it wouldn't be capable of now (it was..when it worked).
Cheers

My phone takes a lot of time getting a GPS fix, sometimes it doesn't succeed after minutes of waiting. I compared it to some Samsung phones, those connect within seconds...
The connection seems stable after getting a fix, but getting a fix is very hard for this phone...
Is anyone else experiencing this?
You're not the only one, mine's also broken. Looking around at the official Moto forums, it seems like this is a fairly common issue with the G4 Play.
So far stock was broken, CM 14.1 has been no better. If I use GPS Status & Toolbox it will eventually get a lock and maybe the accuracy will get down to +/-30m, but if any other app that calls for location (Google Maps, Pokemon Go, etc), if the GPS is turned on at all, it will almost never lock unless switch to GPS Status, but once it gets a lock, the accuracy will keep dropping till its greater than +/-300-400m before losing the lock and eventually the phone just shuts down GPS and stops trying. Literally not location or app settings make any difference, neither does factory reset.
I've had 2 G4 Plays so far. The first was the Amazon Prime version, it had no location issues at all and was totally rock solid, but boot loader could not be unlocked, so I sold it to a friend for his kids to use for Pokemon Go since it was a great device for that. This second one may as well not have came with GPS.
Edit: I've returned to stock and zero difference. I'm not messing with this anymore, 2.5 weeks was long enough trying to fix it, I'm replacing it through Amazon.
I was heaving issues too, changed my SIM to the second slot and it's quite better now. I even play PoGo.
Sent from my Moto G Play using XDA-Developers Legacy app
The problem is actually quite simple: The G4 Play cannot connect to Russian satellites (GLONASS). Under GPS Status and a few other apps, they are perma-greyed out. All of my LG phones connect to them just fine. What kills me is that the feature is listed under Motorola's website, and the phone knows they are there (even on CM14.1), but it simply refuses to use them.
I'm not sure of this. I used MapFactor and GPS Status & Toolbox, and the IDs of the satellites are also in the GLONASS range (https://github.com/mvglasow/satstat/wiki/NMEA-IDs). Do you have a US only version of G4 Play? I have the international version.

I can confirm my 1607 is US Retail. I tested multiple GPS apps (including GPS-S&T) and while I got signal from GLONASS satellites, it straight up refused to connect to a single one, even if the satellite had better signal than a comparable US satellite. I don't know if it's possible to flash a new modem for this model yet.
Try this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.android.gpstest
It gave me the best fix than all the others. I don't know what this guy do but it connects to more satellites and gets a fix faster.
I also have a Moto G4 Play mobile with the same problem.
You won't believe that touching to the gps device on the back side of the phone solved the problem to some extent. I go for running every morning and I use Runkeeper to track my moves. So how much distance I cover in a day is much important for me and thus gps accuracy also. But my location is tracked like a heart rate monitor of a hospital. But one day I was experimenting with my phone and found that if I remove the back cover of the phone and touch to the part where it was written Harpia GPS S01, the signal of the gps boosted and the radius of the blue circle became shorter to about 4-8 metres that means I was getting more accuracy than before. So from that day whenever I go to run, I remove the back cover and put a finger on the gps set and the problem somewhat solved. But this was only a part of the story. My father owns a Micromax Unite 3 mobile and he also used to run daily. What to say about the latter, it gives an accuracy of unbelievable 1 metre. On the latter, the runkeeper even tracks the change of lane or the side of the road. I am just jealous of the phone even though it costs 4000 rs less than mine.

Sounds like connector failed. Someone on the Lenovo forum had theirs repaired by moto and the antenna connector was what they fixed. Betting mine (and yours) are that. I replaced mine through Amazon, so far the replacement device has been working.
I'm wondering if it's a bad design on the antenna or just manufacturing defect and bad QA on some units.

Dumb question, but if the connection is exposed upon removal of the cover, isn't it possible to tear into and reconnect/solder without taking it to a manufacturer? I mean, what I see are two screws to the right of the headphone jack, a plastic cover that says "Harpia GPS S01," and what looks like some kind of antenna watermark.

Interesting. I've just checked mine (European XT1602) and it does that, too - the GLONASS satellites are showing up, but are not being used.
When I was in stock rom after some time the gps stopped working well, don't know why. Now with Aox 14.1 is working fine, I don't understand the satellites but the accuracy is pretty good

Not seeing any active Russians on that image. Your phone might still be having the same problem as everyone else.
I've bought a xt1602 yesterday. The GPS is excellent. I get a fix in few seconds with solid signals, but without glonass.
Update on the current replacement G4 Play: GPS is starting to fail on it as well. I've hardly even used it, maybe only a dozen times in the last several weeks. So far that's 3 of 3 that are defective. I think I'm going to return this one to Amazon too, not sure I want to try a 4th.

I see russian satellites on his picture. How do you know that they were not active?

Because the three that I see are missing values under the "Flags" column. That hints at the aGPS data being there but that the phone might not have interfaced with them. The UI says 12 of 22 sats are connected. Of the 13 US shown, 12 have all fields with information and the thirteenth is missing info in one column. Granted, all of this is conjecture.
I think u are right. Ive tested it today by myself. But ive to say that this mobile phone has got a VERY fast GPS fix, atleast where i live. (Germany)
I also have bad GPS, thing I've tried:
Reset to factory settings
Safe boot
GPS Toolbox
I will now try putting the sim card in the second slot, like suggested here on the forum. Keep you posted!
Unfortunately putting the SIM card in the second slot did not better the situation. Back to the shop...
