Doesn't work - give us information like where you downloaded it from. Are you sure you were not on Fire OS 5.3.1?

I dunno then. I probably am on 5.3.1

This might explain why kingroot has been telling me for nearly a day I have root. I've forced stopped it, cleared cache and data, uninstalled and sometimes it still tells me I have root. However, I haven't connected to the PC to try that way since the new release. BTW no I don't have root...yet.
EDIT: Just tried. No root via PC. Did they do another update in the last 12 or so hours?

See...this is what I have been seeing for pretty much the last 24 hours or so:

Right. Let's just assume everyone is a troll. He very well could've rooted an older version. Maybe not. Everyone here had 4 posts at one point.

well the topic states he found root for FireOs 5.3.3.0 but he did not deliver any proof, also serveral people tested (me including) and cant confirm. so in this instance its probably safe to say OP is a troll.

Really? OP got a little excited and posted what he believed to be a 'win'. A day later he acknowledged the error (kinda). The following sums it up nicely:

Question...does anyone know what signatures the bootloader accepts on Amazon tablets? I know they are supposed to be official. But what is defined as such...example: Would it accept a signature from Google?

Modify an APK. Run an exploit that way. Trick the CPU into installing an app it still thinks is 'official.' not sure how to gain root that way, but maybe we could modify an APK to be able to reinstall on /sdcard/ so it can uninstall itself. It's not root, but would at least get rid of the apps for a period.

You can't modify the apk without it modifying Amazon's signature. You can't reinstall system apps either in Fire OS 5.3.3 and above. Although you might be able to for one app, but I am not holding my breath.

If we can read the signature from a stock rom and apply it to SuperSU.zip we could flash it through stock recovery

[Q] System update downloaded - what's in this?

Just got a message on my phone that says "System update downloaded; Touch to install".
Is this a Samsung or a Sprint thing?
Any ideas what is in this update?
Will this undo the root privileges I currently have?

If you're rooted, it definitely isn't a Samsung thing because you can't get OTA updates if you're rooted.

Rubbish! You can root your phone and still have a status of Official and counter of zero which will give you the updates (update will in most cases remove root). Just check some of the stickies in the dev section.

Does anybody know of a quick workaround of this problem?

Does you S4 show "custom" status and the unlock icon? Or does it show "official"?
Could always decompile and remove the check from the code, but that is kinda hardcore, would need to find a smali badass to do it.

Just a thought, but if you can get the phone back to saying "official" without the padlock maybe it will work. There are a bunch of threads about regaining official status floating around the forums. Some methods work for some and other methods work for others. It might be worth trying though.
Most importantly: did you grant this application root rights? I once had an authenticator for an online game that asked for root rights. If granted, it complained about the risks of using the authenticator on a rooted system. It was interesting.
Now, otherwise I can't see how DirecTV is checking your device to see if it's been compromised, or "security-tampered" ... Unless it has rights to check that "device status - custom" that the others here are referring to?
If that's the case, it should be easy enough to get rid of the "custom" status by using SuperSU instead of SuperUser. It involves downloading/installing SuperSU, updating it and the SU binary, and then uninstalling SuperUser (the app that comes with Motochopper). A reboot or two is usually necessary.
If you've uninstalled bloatware or installed a custom kernel or rom, you're pretty much stuck with "custom" until we find another way around this.

As mentioned, it is most likely either directly checking for known superuser apks or binaries or it is checking the "status" to determine if root has been achieved. If it is only checking for "status", then maintaining an "official" status should be enough to get it to run. If it actually checks for root, then the APK will need modifying to remove the check or return a reverse false positive or root will need to be removed.

I did more research on the matter, and some people said it was the kernel which could be fixed by placing a code somewhere. I don't know how lol.
Also the guy I did research on was saying that his MAC address started with 00:90:4c then random string every reboot!
I tried the factory wipe, and the same thing keeps happening.
How do I do a re-install of the OS? I think that will do it.
This actually should not be possible, given the MAC address is a physical attribute (although ofc you could use software to mask it). Guess your kernel must be reading it wrong. To my knowledge, it's not like 2.4GHz/5GHz have separate MACs.

Depends. Nothing stock should be acting up like that, so you could try a backup/factory reset, or if you're en route to root, then flashing a different kernel would probably help.

The first link in that post really is just saying to make sure you have the most recent updates to the drivers and SDK, as these are the tools with which to perform the task. Some people had old versions already installed, so its also a reminder to make sure they are updated. Some aspects of the SDK prompt people to update, but running the SDK manager to force the update check is the best bet.
Then yeah, the second link has most of the true steps/content to do the re-install.

A little confusion - the SDK is the software development kit, so its just the software you have on your PC. (Not related to the firmware or anything on your tablet its self.)
For example, if you never had it on your PC you'd get it at http://developer.android.com/sdk/
But then people don't realize you should still run the updater for that title, because it can have very recent updates.
You have to use a Windows executable in the process called fastboot.exe
Some old versions of fastboot.exe don't have all the features that the newer fastboot.exe's do...

So to be clear, it's 45 bucks total (Mofo+Sunshine) and if you're on 5.1 you're SOL?

The testing I did was done using KingRoot for temproot. Your mileage may very, but for the time being you need "some" form of root or temproot. If you have root via MoFo, that is fine too.

That's what it sounds like. Unless a temproot is created which wouldn't surprise me with the recent stagefright exploit. Just be patient! ?

Ugh the main reason I upgraded to 5.1 was due to the memory leak. Hopefully I can use this in the future.

MoFo doesn't work on 5.1 though, correct? So does KingRoot work on 5.1 then? Or did you use KingRoot on 5.0?
Will this do the trick?

Ah well. So no viable unlock for 5.1 at this point.
@jcase
Would it help to get a rooted system from a XT1095?

mediaserver runs as the media user, i dont think in our case it will bring us much if any closer to root. The IBM vuln may.

I didn't know if the users need a rooted system image pulled to flash. I'm rooted with no other mods to system

There are posts of it working for other devices. It will fail a couple of times and then just work. Also cases where the phone won't boot anymore. More of the latter now.
Not attempting and I suggest others dont either. Risk outweighs rewards with this being my main phone.

My shield is running 5.1..1. I tried kingroot 4.5, since others have reported success and now my tablet won't boot past the nvidia screen. Anyone else encountered this issue?

Android Pay works on unlocked, decrypted rooted 5X!!

Not sure the best thread to post this, so I figured I'd start a new one.
I just successfully used Android Pay on my unlocked, decrypted, rooted (with root temporarily disabled in SuperSU) Nexus 5X at Rite Aid!
I'll try to test at some more establishments.
I haven't seen anyone else test this yet, so hopefully this helps some of you on the fence who plan to use or already use AP extensively.

Dont know the exact reason. Just know that I have tried from experience and read here in the forums everyone runs into this after reboot.

Interesting. I haven't seen anyone post that (not that I was really looking). I'll give it a try again this week and report back. Sorry for the false alarm then.

All the testing ive done....reboot brings it back to not working again.....there has to be someone who can figure this out
Does rebooting cause SuperSU to re-enable root? If that's not the case I imagine rebooting probably runs a system check for modified boot loader or whatever, which then sets a flag that Android Pay checks.
I've received my 5x (nice size, light and personally I think build quality is nice, coming from a Galaxy S4 and compared to wife's Nexus 6). Have to wait for the USB type C to USB 3 cable to root and decrypt.
Rebooted multiple times since rooting, Android Pay has had no issues. Still offers to add cards and such. It doesn't block payment right? I assume the issue is the app not loading properly overall.

Try to pay for something and see if it works.
Alright, that's the part I didn't test yet. I remember wallet would just deny you for being rooted or something, or at least it would give a message. I've seen no message and apparently if you just go into SuperSU then disable root it's assured to work. There are also obviously apps that can block an app from seeing the root status.

Android Pay uses the SafetyNet API. Hiding root from Android Pay will not do anything at the moment. Paying for something will not work either, but adding cards will
met152
Do you have any update after reboot?
So I'll be trying to test this out tomorrow. I rooted and started Android Pay and tried to add a card, go the error that my hardware wasn't compatible, I hid/uninstalled SuperSU and reboot, then cleared all data from Android Pay, started it up again and it let me add my card and said everything is working.
When I get the chance to test I will report back my findings.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to try this out again. Hopefully sometime this weekend.
Does anyone know the scenario here? It works once and then once you reboot it never works again? Should I reboot with root enabled or disabled?
If you leave root disabled it will always work (At least in my case)...as soon as you add root back and reboot...no go

Wallet has always worked on rooted without a hitch this bs didn't start until android pay came out. Good thing I have a physical wallet card and primarily use wallet for wire transfers between family memebers...I switch to keytag/keyring (blue icon in play store) since the split of wallet/pay into separate apps and haven't had any problems.

So you can have an unencrypted phone and still have android pay working? Just can't have supersu flashed?
Yes, unencrypted and unlocked bootloader is fine. I have also been using chainfire's new systemless root method, and android pay works with it (for now)!
