[REQ]Samsung cloud appdata restore video - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

I have the verizon model of the s8 so i am unable to use samsung cloud(Thanks Verizon you jerks). I was wondering if someone would be willing to make a video showing samsung cloud restoring and app with appdata.
I found this feature still is available in my secure folder however it does not store appdata and am yet to see proof that it actually works with appdata.
Does samsung cloud really able to replace the need for titanium backup? How the F is this not built into android already. sigh....

Yes.
Everyone accept Verizon get an app called samsung cloud that backs up pretty much everything.

I want to see it specifically do appdata.

Bloatware Removal Thread

Now that the AT&T Galaxy S3 is rooted:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1726960
My favorite thing to do after a first root is to use Titanium Backup to delete all the bloatware. Here's the list of stuff I took off:
AT&T Messages
AT&T Navigator
ChatOn
DeviceHelp
Flipboard
Media Hub
Music Player
My Files
My AT&T
S Memo
S Suggest
Play Books
Play Movies
Yahoo Finance
Yahoo News
YP Mobile
My list is just from a quick glance. If anyone else knows of other bloatware items that can be safely removed please post and add them.
Flipboard will stay on mine. Love that app.

I agree. I would remove the entire list above except for Flipboard. If you set it up to just the things you're interested in, it works really well.
Can't you just disable it. Doesnt it do the same thing as removing it or freezing?

Settings/application manager/all then just choose the one you want to disable and click "disable" at the top. If it updated itself, click "uninstall updates" first, then "disable" will be available
First run around, give it time u will learn everything. Dont rush, read and understand the language spoken, the software and its uses.

With an att phone, u return it to att, not samsung. All newer Samsung phones have a flash counter that logs every time its been modified software wise so if it's been rooted, they can tell, the warranty is void, and if something is legitimately wrong with it, you get ****. In fact, you will still be on the hook for your contract so either cough up 550$ for a new phone or $350 to back out of the contract. Maybe they will catch it, maybe not but that's a pretty expensive gamble to take

Can someone clarify something for me? On my other rooted devices if you deleted bloat then you couldn't get OTA updates to either download or install. Is this the case with Samsung devices? I usually just freeze with Titanium and restore when an update rolls out.

There is no reason to delete with these phones anymore. Freezing is perfectly fine and achieves the same thing. Ota will probably work the same so better safe than sorry lol.

I have warrantied numerous phones to AT&T that were rooted.. I have NEVER had one denied or been charged.. That's not to say it can't or won't happen because I know they can but I have never seen or heard of anyone getting denied...
IMHO, disabling via the hone system is the better option simply because the disable sticks on reboot... I however still need root because I for one can't live without AdFree...

I'm getting better battery life than with any phone I've had before.

The flash counter was implemented on samsung phones since the tab so it's very new and AFAIK, only samsung does it. Up to now, someone who knew what they were doing would have to make a determination if the phones software was tampered with, this system does not need anyone to make that determination. It will be no different than the moisture sensor...

There is a flash counter on the SGS2 as well and Chainfire was able to figure out a way to reset it (Triangle Away app). I'm sure it will be possible with this phone too eventually.
According to the comments, it works on the international S3 already.

[Q] Dropbox promotion lost??

Hi,
When i received my new S5 (SM-G900F), i did the following in this order:
-CF-autoroot install
-TWRP 2.7.0.0 install
-titanium backup install
-Restored my apps (user apps ) from my S3 (I9300) Omnirom backup to my S5
Since that in the bunch I had dropbox, it seems that I have disrupted something because the promotions (50GB for 2 years) is not triggered:crying:
So I can access my files in dropbox but when I check my account, Dropbox doesn't mention my S5 space upgrade...
Did I blew my chance to get that free space??
Is it a way to repare that??
Thanks !!!
Did you already used samsung Dropbox deal on other device? If so, it's only once per account.

Yes, I used my dropbox account with samsung S3 promotion 2 years ago...
The promotions will end in a few days...
On dropbox site they say:
The first Dropbox account that signs in to the app on the device will get 48 GB of free space (assuming the other conditions are met). Each account is only able to claim this promotion once.

Now I wonder, is promotion from samsung s3 and samsung s5 different or not?
I mean, when my s3 promotions is over , will the S5's one take over or am i out it for good???
The only way to get it, is to create a new Dropbox account I think.
You could try resetting to factory settings then trying dropbox to get the promotion then restore your titanium backup. Or if you did a nandroid backup of stock once you installed TWRP try restoring that, then try dropbox, once it's registered on your dropbox account restore your titanium backup.
This sounds like a con. Nowhere on any of Samsung's promotion does it say of you had a previous promotion you won't get this one for your S5. This needs reporting.
This also happened to me. After s4, s4 active, note 3 and now s5 none of them has bring me another 50 go. It's very very stupid. At least our time should be extended to another 2 years, I don't really need 150 or 200 go but the time is running away... what we should do?

i mean i understand they can't "stack" it...but at the very least..they should reset your 2 year expiratoin date from the last device using the promotion
Of I rememer right, I got from s2 and note 102 gb of space. By now 50 gb has gone....at least the time period should be extended.

As suggested, create a new account is the way to go..
I do think the time should be extended at least ( also, I was wondering why Samsung is not making more noise about it, like they brag alot on linkedin or wallstreet journal but not on dropbox).
Anyway, one word, disappointing...

Hancom office can finally be downloaded!

Was looking through samsung apps today and saw the individual Hancom apps were available to download. I checked the updater and all installs/updates were still grared out. I went back to the samsung app store and was able to install the files individually through it. In short, if you want hacom office today you need to install the individual apps through the samsung app store.

Sorry, that was a typo - I meant I cannot store documents to the external SD. I even tried creating a new document. Unlike other office apps, there are no settings to let you select the default directory to store data, documents.
They don't get very good reviews in the store. 2.5-3 stars.
Is it me or pdf files cannot be opened with the hancom apps from samsung app store? I had hancom sideloaded and used to be the best for viewing large pdf files, uninstalled and now I cant open @#"ยก

Sure, until you need to "Save As" and then you are out of luck.
Via my Note 3
So I could find the updater in Samsung apps. It said "update" as I installed the version posted months back. Update successful. But all other parts eg hword 2014, hcell 2014 and Hshow 2014 all say update but when I click on the update it comes up with an error saying product doesn't exist inthis store (4002).
Do you think that is becasue I am in Australia? Strange the updater updated though and can be searched for in the store. Nothing else shows in the store when searched.
---------- Post added at 03:17 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:02 PM ----------
Looks like its because I'm stuck on 4.3 here in Oz.
Worst thing is I don't want to update to 4.4 (not that its available here) as I will need to root to make it so MediaMonkey will sync to the SD card and for my large maps in Locus to be able to stay on the SD.... Time to root once I get the 4.4 update I think. Only for the SD Card restrictions which seems a bit stupid I need to do it just for a function I already have.. Anyway thats another thread.

Google Backup vs Samsung Backup

I am setting up by Tab 4 7.0 for first time and when logged in with my Google account it asked if I wanted to backup and restore and then when I logged in to my Samsung account it asked me the same thing. Is enabling both redundant and screw things up? Which should I do , Google, Samsung or both?
I use Google backup. Whenever you want a new tablet from another brand, Samsung backup doesn't do anything for you. However, when I did set up Google backup, it downloaded automatically all apps I have on my phone.

Verizon Galaxy S8 Delivered! 4/19

Just received my S8 today! Super stoked. Also, before I completely set up the phone, I didn't add any google accounts. I immediately went to disable all the bloatware and preinstalled apps I don't use. Not sure what Verizon did, but I was able to delete most of the bloatware that came on the device! The disable feature wasn't blocked out. Guess Verizon is finally giving the customers what they wanted. Was able to delete the following:
Verizon : Navigator, Caller ID, Cloud, Message+, NFL mobile, Slacker Radio & games
Google: Google Play/TV, Music, Hangouts ( I don't use any of these apps)
can you post a screenshot of what the settings menu looks like? i heard the verizon one looks different than the other carrier ones
Settings screenshots attached
Does the firmware still say it's a U model?

The model for the US versions are all the same except for Carrier specific S/W and bloat. Not much bloatware on VZW except noted in OP and a couple of games which I think are Samsung. There are a couple of Amazon apps which I use but otherwise its fairly clean.
Now to disable Bixby and remap the Bixby key.
Phone feels too narrow even to my smallish hands but very comfortable. No problems navigating so far.
my 2 cents

Only Verizon cloud is accessible. I tried using Samsung Cloud via nova shortcuts, but I can't get the backup button to work properly.
FYI, I had uninstalled all of the Verizon bloat I was allowed to right when I got the phone(12pm cst). Just a few minutes ago after opening voicemail (it downloaded visual) I noticed all of the bloat was back and couldn't be uninstalled...
I went ahead and did a factor reset which let me remove it again. I have now disabled DT Ignite which I assume is being used to push the bloat again.
