we have copies of the ODIN files for that version. I checked and we can still go back. Dont worry about updating.

I still have the original out of the box version file on my computer. I have updated my phone to the DE version. This is way different than the Note 5 firmware. I think I'm going to play with it this weekend to see if I can revert back to original stock though I'm not expecting a miracle. I'm hearing people can revert back but I'm not that interested in it until I need to be. I'm kind of disappointed that we don't have root and unlocked bootloader just yet but oh well. . it happens.

Bluetooth issues
I use my S8 with LG HBS1100 bluetooth headset and sometimes they disconnect... SOmetimes I can talk through whatsapp with the phone/speaker but not through bluetooth.
I also have the S8 connected to my Civic 2016 and it disconnect sometimes.
Tmobile signal/network is also very poor in some areas were I know are low but more noticeable.
I'm comparing these with my previous iphone 7+ S7 Edge and S8+.
I hope it improves with the update

I noticed my bluetooth acts wonky when I have any other wifi/bluetooth device active nearby. I did some testing with my work Iphone 7 and i get bad hickups in audio when its bluetooth or wifi is on in my car, when i turn it off, everything works fine.

I got the update and installed it. Hated it with a passion so i decided to flash the unlocked firmware onto my phone so i can avoid the stupid navbar 'improvement' and before i did flash it, i did make sure my phone was perm. Unlocked through t-mobiles network unlock so im set.

Yeah i did. I tried it out with someone's cricket SIM card and it worked on cricket like a charm. So in my opinion, it's worth flashing to unlock firmware after network unlock through the app.

Easiest Root for N915G

So, I was going to use Cf-Auroroot like I have for every other Samsung device I've got but apparently there's an issue with it for the N915G.
What I did was put the latest super su file (i used v2.40) on my external SD card and then in Odin flash the latest TWRP recovery from here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-edge/general/easy-steps-stock-odin-n915tuvu1anjl-sm-t2943993 (you can also use the sd card fix from here too, flash in TWRP, just install supersu, then add another flash file and install the sd card fix).
Go to recovery mode and flash super su.
I found it had an error flashing cache but a factory reset fixed this so best done BEFORE setting everything up.
Let phone reset, set it up and you now have root access with a clean install of stock rom.
Happy days.
This worked fine for me and left out the step of flashing CF-Autoroot which wasn't needed.
You will still trip Knox.
I don't know if this will work flawlessly for you or for all models, especially if the bootloader is locked, but theoretically it should.
Good luck guys, happy flashing.
And HAPPY NEW YEAR...

Exactly the same method... I believe Twrp 2.8.5.0 and Supersu 2.4.6 were what I used to root Lollipop...

If it didn't I don't know why.

You should not have many issues with 5.0.1. What you need to do after flashing the 5.0.1...you need to reset to factory setting. Im sure by now you know when upgrading..you still keep data from the kitkat. This may cause conflict and issues. At the moment the only issue i had is sometime i get that contact closed notifications. I have google this issue...seem like it happen to other phones to with early 5.0.1. For me im ok...cause it only happen very rarely...i hope a much later lollipop will fix this issues.

Aussie 915G is unlocked. As far as I know so are all others...
Mentioned locked bootloaders as this will work on other models too...
Got my SM-915G, and got it rooted and TWRP installed following you method. It is working with AT&T and I am getting LTE data speeds, but it is struggling on voice network. hardly any bars are visible on the signal strength icon.
Is there any solution?

Possibly flashing the modem and non-HLOS.bin for AT&T.
I can't really say as I live in Oz and have no problems with voice calls...
I do find that my bars don't tend to go over 3 or more than halfway but that could be due to where I live and the crappy coverage we get here... No problem with voice calls though...
I am not sure if I can install SM-N915A modem on 915G.
Can someone confirm if that is possible, if so, what version?
tell me one thing is xposed framework and freedom app now working on note edge 915G lollipop
Nope. Better stick with Kitkat if you intend to use Freedom and Xposed.

Sprint S7 unlocked: Is there a way to update it safely?

Long time reader...first time poster
I bought an unlocked sprint s7 from ebay and it works like a dream and i was wondering if there was a safe method to update the phone WITHOUT ruining the unlock that the seller put on the phone.
Current software is update PC5 and i would love to benefit from security and bug fixes in new releases.
Thanks in advance!

Most likely not a carrier unlock do to a unlocked padlock during boot animation as well as samsung pay not working due to software mods that im guessing made it unlocked in the first place. Thanks for the reply!

Bootloader unlock and sim unlock are two different things. You said it has an unlock pad on boot up screen. That means it's bootloader is unlocked. Which means if I am correct if it has a custom recovery you are unable to do future ota updates. Can and possibly brick your phone. You can flash a ton that has the new update no issues developers are usually fairly quick to update there rom on the latest ota.

I can confirm that updating over OTA will NOT screw with the unlock of the device. If your samsung pay does not work i would disable knox with a package disabler app to receive samsung pay in you new updated state.
OTA update from PC5 to PH7 on unlocked phone went smoothly.
Thanks
I have a unlocked Sprint S7 but im outside of America, is there any way i can update without losing the unlock? i don't want to end with an expensive brick.

I bought unlocked sprint s7 that I'm using with metro PCS, but it's not letting me update the profile and because of that I'm not getting the wifi hotspot option. How do I get it to work?
@ThaDunder : You must initially do it manually over samsung smart switch then OTA will work @zirnitra : Sadly wifi tethering is not working for me either...no idea how to fix it =/ must be a symptom of the unlocking like wifi calling

Difficulties after switching to T-Mobile

Hey guys! Thanks in advance for any help or clarity you can provide.
I had to switch to T-Mobile from Verizon. My device isn't rooted, modified, or in any way different than factory. However because of the switch I've had some functionality that I've lost. Namely the ability to get software updates. This phone has been rooted before, and I'm very comfortable with the process of loading up different software. The question I can't find anything on is whether or not installing the T-Mobile firmware will brick/cripple the device. I know there are different chipsets so I'm trying to figure out the best way to keep my phone up to date without being on Verizon anymore.

I tried finding something about loading the T-Mobile firmware on a Verizon device but I haven't had any luck. Only guides on doing a regular firmware update on a T-Mobile device. Should I be worried about the Exynos/Snapdragon differences? I hate asking for something so simple, but could you please point me in the right direction? I'd LIKE to try and go that route, because the U firmware had poor battery life, a lot of heat generation, and requires a patch just to get wifi to work. Then again maybe I'm thinking of the eng boot we had for rooti. I do love my all day battery quite a bit.
Thanks in advance.

T-Mobile, Verizon, and the U phones all have snapdragon processors. No need to worry about that.
Read through this thread here as it pertains somewhat to what you're trying to accomplish. Read it from start to finish so you don't miss anything important.

@Outbreak444 Thanks for the help. Last night I threw G935U-PI3 on the phone and literally everything worked out of the box. Even wifi calling and (seemingly) VoLTE. It's taken care of all my issues. I can't get over the fact that it's now an out of the box solution and it works flawlessly.

Just look on the forums on flashing either the U firmware or T-Mobile firmware using Odin. It's a fairly easy process if you read through the steps thoroughly. And you don't need to worry about unlocking anything.

I'm familiar with flashing the U firmware, as I did this on my Sprint s7, but my understanding was that just flashing the U firmware didn't open up the bands. But are you saying that flashing the U firmware alone was enough to get TMobile fully working?

My understanding it does. The hardware between the phone's should be the same so it's software that's affecting it. But the U firmware won't allow wifi calling and other carrier specific things unless you're rooted. So pick and choose.

All Samsung's have multiple ways of backing up and restoring. All you have to do is back up using Samsung cloud and when you start your phone it will ask you if you want to restore your phone and then everything will automatically come back to your phone. Factory reset fixes boot loop and other issues

Great, I also found my signal to be better as far as staying connected is concerned. At one point my data kept going out on the atnt firmware and I had to keep restarting the phone or mess with the Wi-Fi calling. I haven't had any problems since I flashed this and plus 8 is faster than 7 so I'm excited to not have to mess with this phone anymore and just leave it up to ota updates.

If there was root before (there is), then I'm pretty sure it will soon be available for Oreo too. I don't see why there wouldn't be unless those individuals who created or found the engineering kernel for MM AND N, aren't around to help out again. If not, back to 6.0 it goes.
HI, Now I'm on a custom rom with Nougat. Sim's carrier is Orange(UE). If I flash this Official Oreo version the phone will become Locked, right? Any idea how to unlock it, no charges? Thanks!
Thanks for the upload. I was trying to see if SamMobile had this up yet but they did not have it up when I checked. I have the MetroPCS variant and it did have 8.0 available on SamMobile already. I am switching from MetroPCS to T-Mobile so this will be perfect to get my phone 100% ready.

It's locked? I have installed this many times on my TMo S8+ and never had this happen. Even when I had temporary unlocks, it would remain unlocked until the unlock expired. If you want the device unlock app to work again you'll need to go back to official TMo firmware.
Just by installing the unlocked software does not unlock the phone. was your phone unlocked previously and then you switched to U1 software? I am pretty sure you can request an unlock from the tmobile site. have you tried that? other than that y not just flash back to oreo and unlock from the stock tmobile rom. DRL7 is a terrible build anyway compared to whats out there and t-mobile is in the testing phase so official pie will be out soon. just a few ideas.

Yes you can just go ahead and downgrade. I do it all the time and haven't run into any issues. I also have a T-Mobile S8+.
Thanks I will try and let you know

tried odin on macos via java. downloaded tmobile official build. phone in download mode success. asking for PIT file. I extraced it from the CSC file and now it says the odin file corrupted. Suggestions? I tried a differente cable. I will now try to install via odin on pc and maybe downlod the build again. any other suggestion? I am worried the phone cannot write on the phone flash memory whihc might be the same issue why the tmobile unlock app does not work. yet the phone works perfectly for any other app and oS

I've never gotten Odin to work properly on my Mac. However, you can use VirtualBox and run Windows in there. That's how I use Odin. I'd download the build again and see if that fixes anything. Please try on a Windows machine (VM or PC).
Will do that then and let everyone know
