Question on GPU - Huawei P10 Lite Questions & Answers

As regards the P10 Lite my other worry also is the GPU which is the MaliT830MP2. Comparing it with the Adreno 506 (Moto G5 Plus) or Samsung's equivalent do you guys think....
....is the 830 more than sufficient for 3D games, near-heavy multitasking and with game emulators?

It's good but I don't know comparing it to other phones

Games like what ? Need for Speed No Limits runs without lag on my P10 Lite. PES 2016 the same. No problems. What games do you play ? Maybe I can test them and see how is the experience.

The games I'm talking about is the emulator type such as a PSP or PS1 emulators.
A "game" such as Epic Citadel would also be another one that I would be interested to know in terms of fps, etc.

Epic Citadel is around 35 FPS. Sometimes 40 sometimes 60 depending on the scene. I will try now a PSP emulator with SEGA Rally.
It works pretty good with around 30-40 FPS but the sund sometimes lags and graphics not

Epic CItadel on 35fps is low for me. If on normal/medium/average settings if at all reaches 40fps then pease let me know?
So, any thoughts on emulators like PPSSPP or PSX/PS1 emulators?

I already said that PSP with SEGA Rally runs about 30-40 FPS.
You can't expect high-end performance from a mid-range device. It's A53 at 1.7 and 2.36 GHz so it's not quite powerful.
Epic Citadel on ultra high quality runs at 35 FPS but on high quality is like 60 FPS all the time.

Are you satisfied with those numbers?

im talking about "graphics processing unit"
not "greatest penis usage"
The GPU in the Droid is the same as the one in the iPhone 3GS and the iPod touch third-gen (PowerVR SGX 535), and it is marginally faster and more capable than the one in the Nexus, from what I gather. The Nexus makes up for it by crushing the TI OMAP CPU with its Snapdragon.
There are a few graphics benchmarking sites and apps around. The Qualcomm-specific app that lots of people use will give you 35FPS on a Nexus and around 23 on a Droid / Milestone, all at stock clocks, with no JIT. however, that app is NOT written for the OMAP architecture, and, for example, a ROM'd Hero will also apparently beat a Droid / Milestone, scoring about 25, from what I've heard.
That last point is important - any app written / compiled specifically for a certain architecture, and then ported or forced onto another will typically show much better performance on one or the other, regardless of which processor is "faster". Just look at console gaming. Some games are better on the XBox 360, some are better on the PS3 (more and more, they are better on PS3 as devs are exploiting the BluRay advantage and the 6/7 core CPU, but I digress...).
From what I've read, the new Samsung architecture is meant to be much better than both, however, you are stuck with Sammy's dev and support history. Ugh.
Nexus One processes 22 million triangles/sec.
Droid processes 7 millions triangles/sec.
iPhone 3gs processes 28 million triangles/sec.
Samsung Galaxy S processes 90 million triangles/sec.
This is what I read somewhere....
Asphalt 5 runs smooth on the droid, and laggy on the nexus.
For games (opengl) i'd say droid is better. For general use it's the nexus. Maybe if theres gonna be an update for asphalt it runs smooth on the nexus, but untill that it doesn't

The nexus has very poor fillrate. Just displaying a 2D image of it's screen size uses 75% of graphics processing power hence lagging in most 3D games. Raging thunder 2 and exzeus does not have better graphics and perhaps "sh1t" graphics compared to asphalt 5. PowerVR on the droid can do 14million/polyi but underclocked so it does 7million/poly and 250m/fill rate. The fill rate is already 2 times more than Adreno 200 on paper hence Asphalt 5 running much smoother on Adreno 205, PowerVR 530/535 and 540.
My galaxy s has PowerVR SGX 540 with 40million/poly with 1000m/fill rate. I underclocked the CPU to 400mhz and game still ran smoothly. This proves nexus one was lagging in asphalt 5 because fill rate was poor on the GPU
It's known that the GPU on Nexus is sub-par, as it is a weak point of 8x50 Snapdragon. All the newer device families, based on 8x55 and above, don't suffer from that weakness. You didn't have to revive almost 2 year old thread to say that

HTC Legend .. Intensive 3D Gaming ?

Hey
i'm really consedoring buying the legend , just wondering since the CPU is 600MHz , will it be good with intensive 3D gaming like Asphalt 5 , Raging Thunder and Deliverace ?
or should i get the Samsung Wave instead ? cause i won't buy a phone that don't game well
Unlike the HTC hero, the legend has a dedicated GPU so will be better for games.

then why do they say that the legend is only a slight upgrade from the hero in terms of tech?
it runs 3d games smooth, that is the 3d games out now and support tilt control, and that are not a lot of games.
Asphalt, smooth but no tilt control
Raging thunder, smooth for 98%
Google Earth (almost a game) no support doesn´t boot up
simply said, if you want to go for a mobile that supports hardcore 3d games and thatw really important to you in the long term, then get the desire or nexus or iphone. Sure the Legend support and runs the current gen of games perfect. There will come a time in next couple of month when increasing spec demand on a mobile will get the Legend a step back.
But who knows, the Hero getting an upgrade to 2.1 and it performs 100% better then on 1.6 android.

The MSM7200 SoC in the Hero does have a GPU based on ATI Imageon technology. It's not a particularly capable unit, but it is there.

Apparently it supports OpenGL 2.0 whereas the Hero's dedicated GPU only suppors OpenGL 1.0. So it should perform better, but so far there are hardly any Android apps that make use of a dedicated GPU so it's hard to actually say how big the difference is.

Asphalt does work and so does tilt control. You have to enable accelerometer in the game options. The game seemed incredibly fast though. But maybe that's how it's supposed to play.

3D Gaming Tests
I have tested some 3d games from the market place. Some of them only in a lite version, but the graphics should be the same... ^^
There is a rating system om smoothness from 1-5
Speedx 3D
http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-beepstreet-speedx-wFnn.aspx
Its product specification tells the truth. It delivers stunning 3D accelerometer controlled tunnel experience without any lags.
5
Armageddon Squadron
http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-polarbit-asquadron-pmqD.aspx
By stopping all tasks with my advanced task manager it runs quiet well. But not as smooth as Speedx 3D. Looks like 20 FPS. Anyway its playable and its still fun...
4
Raging Thunder 2 Lite
http://www.androlib.com/android.screenshot.app.nwtE-tEiE.u.aspx
Wow! Amazing 3d graphics! But you reckognize that HTC maybe doesn´t use the full CPU capacity of the legend as it could use. Starting a Race it lags and after some seconds it becomes much smoother, but still a bit laggy. 15-20 FPS therefore you can play it,
3.5
Speed Forge 3D Demo
http://www.androlib.com/android.application.mag3dlite-speedforgedemo-qCmp.aspx
Perfect! Super smooth!
5
Magnetic Sports Soccer
http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-revo-proto-tiqp.aspx
Runs very smooth with an occasional appearance of lags... Very seldom
4.5
ToonWarz - LITE
http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-polarbit-toonwarzlite-pqtB.aspx
Oh my godness! At first I thougt hey it runs not bad. But then the first enemies appeared and the FPS crashed totally! Unplayable³!
1
Kwaak3 - Quake 3 Arena for Android
http://code.google.com/p/kwaak3/
Very nice! After change the lightning from "Lightning maps" to "vertex" and the texture quality to 50% it runs very smooth with only one enemy and quiet okay with 3 enemies...
4.5
For shortness of this post i will only name the game and put a number behind it.
Homerun battle 3D demo- 5
Wave Blazer - 4
Quake 2&1 - 2
Mystique Chapter 1 - 5
My Paper - 5
Lybyrinth - 5
Dice 3D - 5
Friday Escape Lite - 3.5
Armadillo Roll Demo - 5
Vacuum - 5
Raging Thunder 1 - 5
NO ASPHALT 5!!!!!!!!
Upcoming tests after putting money aside
Exzeus Arcade - unfortunately no lite version out there
Deliverace - Omg! trailers look amazing! Hopefully it will be quiet smooth (not available at the moment)
Light Racer 3d - But maybe you can test these games??
Super G Stunt
SpaceTracks
Welcome to Hell 3D (not available at the moment)
Crusade of Destiny (not available at the moment)
AVERAGE RATING: 4,27777
After the devs have some clues to upgrade legends performance it could be nearly 5.
i know this thread is pretty old but i would like to add Dungeon Hunter.
the only game from gameloft that seems to work nearly perfect on the legend (no display resolution problems).
so, without overclocking version 3.11 runs pretty well. some buttons are deformed thats all.
the game doesn´t run perfect, but its playable.
version 3.5.7 (HD) works, too. but the graphics are deformed and youll get errors instead of videos.
Version 3.1.1 = 4.7/5
Version 3.5.7 = 4.2/5
so from all 3d gameloft games just dungen hunter will work well ?
i havent tested all games sofar, i m not that interessted in racing games or football managers and stuff.
but from the games ive tested (assassins creed, sandstorm, nova, hero of sparta and some other i forgot) only dungeon hunter works with the right resolution, nova was basicly playable, too (for example). but playing wouldnt be fun.
Just an aside 'cos I don't think it's been mentioned in this thread, the MSM7227 has the same Adreno 200 GPU that is used in the 1GHz Snapdragon phones like the Desire. Not sure about the clock speed, but I'd imagine it bears at least some relation to the main CPU clock.
Remember though that the Legend has a lot less screen to fill up so the lower fillrate is not so much of an issue, if at all. In fact, when you look at the Neocore benchmarks, the Legend holds up pretty well.
This link* shows Neocore benchmark scores for various devices and although the Legend is not tested, the MyTouch Slide has the same MSM7227 so results are comparable.
A lot of the 3D games for Android look like fairly lazy ports of older iPhone apps (Gameloft, I'm looking at you!) and may not be particularly suited to one Android GPU or another. That's Android fragmentation and an immature market though, eh?
Having said that, if 3D performance is important then something like Galaxy S would surely be the choice handset. The 1+GHz high-resolution devices will be the target devices for any serious game development so you may find that 320x480 and lower handsets are ignored to a great extent. Whether a burgeoning budget market keeps these lower-end device on developers' minds remains to be seen.
Edit to add: The only 3D game I have and play regularly is Carrom 3D (great pool/snooker game) and this is smooth enough even with all the detail turned up. A lot of other apps 'running' in the background will cause occasional lag, but then this is the price we pay for a multi-tasking environment!
* Search for "high end android gpu showdown" to get link at Android&Me (can't link as I'm a new account)
The only game (that I tried) that lags on my legend is caligo chaser
FIFA10 lags too.
the legend isnt a real lower-end device (the wildfire is xD).
if google would optimize android and htc would optimize sense the cpu and gpu would have much more power to for example to play games more fluedly.
if coders would even try to optimize theyr games for legend (and it would be very easy for gameloft for example, htc legend is comparable to the iphone 3gs and most of there games are coded for exactly that device), they would work just perfect.
the lower cpu rate and the lack of ram isnt the real problem: compare the hardware of the phones to a pc 10 years ago, the snapdragon should reach better performance than an pentium 3/1ghz cause of the architectur, the gpu is far away from the power of a geforce 2mx, but still pretty good.
based on the better architecture (n45; arm) the 600mhz msm7227 should be comparable to a 800mhz pentium 3.
this hardware has to work with a smaller screen with a fixed resolution. they could reach so much better performance, graphics etc. they are just too lazy.
(ps: i know that smartphone hardware isnt really comparable to hardware that was in pcs back then, but mhz is mhz)

Yeah, but MHz to MHz rarely mean much, even in the same architecture. For example: The new Qualcomm CPU's, found in the Desire-Z (T-Mobile G2, 800MHz) outperform the 1GHz (1000MHz) CPU found in the Dersire by a long way (these are both ARM). If you look at AMD CPUs vs Intel CPUs then AMD almost always outperform Intel, even on a lower clock-speed. (Both the x86-64 architecture). MHz to MHz only has a real, measurable, bearing when applied to 2 of the same CPUs at to different clock speeds (overclocking)
Having said all that, I do agree with your post. The Legend is capable of so much more, if only people would take the time to code properly. Part of the problem is that people rely on the Dalvik VM (fairly phone-independent), so they rarely have to code on a "per-phone-model" basis. With the iPhone, as it's only ever 1 set of hardware, programmers can easily optimise it for the iPhone. It's much harder to optimise for Android, as it exists on so many phones, each with different specs. But that's the price you pay for choice...
Suprisingly the Legends GPU outperforms the Desire in 3D benchmarks. The CPU is certainly weaker in the Legend, but the comparison below is not quite far because the Legend is still on 2.1 and the desire benchmark was 2.2
Hopefully soon they can be compared like for like...

Think the Adreno GPU on Evo Sucks? Check this out!

The Adreno GPU on the evo does not suck. Games just need to be adapted to it. Here's a video I just made showing a game made specifically for the Snapdragon GPU. Now if all companies did this...
Update: New video ,video and sound quality are slightly less crappy and image is not mirrored (Recorded using my iSight cam since I dont have my flip ATM). Notice how I pan around a lot to show how smooth it runs.
And yes, the version up on gameloft's mobile site is the updated version for Snapdragon. I paid $4.99 for it. The game itself is quite fun ;D
------
The quality of the video is not the best, but you can tell the game runs VERY smooth and the graphics are the best i've seen on any cell phone, bar none. The game looks better than it did on my iPhone 3GS. Textures are crisp and the game has an HD feel to it. Also controls are very good, the huge screen on the evo really helps.

Nova.......its one of those gamesloft games. its only 4.99 too
The game looks good, but it wasn't made with Snapdragon nor the Adreno GPU initially, it's a port of an iPhone game originally created with the PowerVR GPU found on that processor.
It's a good port, yes, but I think your point is a bit lost.
I would love to see a game built for the Snapdragon and Adreno in mind, if a port can work this well, I can only imagine a game being built-from the ground up with the Adreno in mind would look and run even better.
All of the hd games from gameloft are amazing i currently own nova... gangstar which is similar to grand thieft auto.. and asphalt which is the best racing game for android there is most of thier games arent in the market you have to go to thier mobile site however you can try the asphalt hd demo that is in the market if you go to thier site you can get thier lets golf game for free. It is a golf game with amazing graphics dont really play it alot but its free so i have it.
Yes any game that's optomized for a perticular GPU will excell, but here's the problem the world doesn't revolve around the Snapdragon. So the better fix would be for the GPU to adapt to the game and not the other way around, the GPU isn't complete garbage but it could be a hell of alot better with proper coding and better drivers.

+1 gameloft is making some great games
I have:
Nova
Gangstar
Lets Golf
Asphalt5
H.A.W.X
They all runn really well. I have had some trouble with touch points freezing if for example I'm steering in Gangstar and pressing the gas and let up on the gas the steering gets stuck until I hit the gas again or let go and retouch the steering wheel.
All in all though I'm thoroughly impressed with the games
Yea i have that problem with gangstar to also with asphalt it glitches during the end of races or high speeds nova online multiplayer is the sh**
Does NOVA let you play mutiplayer cross system, evo <> iphone?
Im not sure but there is alway alot of people playing online unlike toonwars or any other multiplayer ive came across
Man, looking at the gameloft catalog, they definitely need to port driver over from the palm pre. That would make me a very, very, happy person

Well, while that is true, there are literally millions of Snapdragon phones being released and sold as we speak. Yet I had to jump through hoops to get this game, as it's not available through Android Market. Then you wonder why Gameloft goes on record to complain that their Android games don't sell as well as they do on the iPhone. It's like they want to have their cake and eat it, too....Ridiculous. Also, it's NOT hard to adapt games to the Adreno GPU from PowerVR(Hint: Fill Rate.)....Especially when there's a huge market, with huge demand, with millions of people just waiting to buy games that perform well on their phones.
It's Nova, and it was made for the iPhone... and it lags on the HTC EVO, 20-30fps...
Games that do run well are something like Raging Thunder 2.
Also fix the audio, ear rape.

Which GPU is more powerful PSP or Galaxy S?

Just curious if we know our phone's GPU is more powerful or not. I heard the Iphone 3gs were , and ares is way better than those so Idk. Just want bragging rights.
WELL THE 3GS was faster gpu than the psp I forgot where I saw it but this smashes the 3gs so I'm gonna say yes by a long shot ...

there is already a Playstation emulator, a ps2 emulator might not be far off, but as will all emulation you tend to need hardware thats a LOT better than the system your emulating.

How positive are we that this can handle dream cast/sega saturn?

Considering the GPU..there is no reason why it should not be able to handle it...As I stated the Dreamcast uses the PowerVR 2 chip..and Galaxy S has a PowerVR 5 chip >.>
@Berserk87 - PS2 may take time as the snapdragons can't handle it..if any will be able to handle it, it would be the Galaxy S..the only issue is with emulating is a penalty...the Galaxy S is only slightly superior to a PS2 so it may be tough :/
I think someone needs to find a way to use a ps3 controller with the phone before it will be truly amazing to have these advanced emulators since you can only play the simple games.

Here are the specs for consoles: (Galaxy S is at around 90 million/sec with memory bus at I think 4.2GB/s)
Note: We're unable to accurately compare the specifications for the below consoles because the method the companies
used to measure performance are so different. Sony and Microsoft's numbers are unrealistic and denote the raw (read:
not real) performance of their respective systems, while Nintendo's and Sega's numbers are based on real performance
during gameplay. With that said, the figures you see are just smoke and numbers. We refer you to compare the actual
games.
GameCube: 6 to 12 million polygons per second (conservative, but realistic estimate)
PlayStation 2: 75 million polygons per second (realistically first-gen games are more like 3-5 million)
Xbox: 150 million polygons per second (does not consider real gameplay environments)
Dreamcast: Roughly 3 million polygons per second
Nintendo 64: Around 150,000 polygons per second
PlayStation: Around 360,000 polygons per second (lacks comparable effects)
Main Clock Speed
GameCube: 485MHz
PlayStation 2: 300MHz
Xbox: 733MHz
Dreamcast: 200MHz
Nintendo 64: 93.75MHz
PlayStation: 33.86MHz
Memory
GameCube: 24MB of 1T-SRAM (main), 16MB of 81MHz DRAM (main),
and 3MB of embedded 1T-SRAM in the graphics chip
PlayStation 2: 32MB Direct Rambus RAM (main), 4MB of embedded DRAM on the graphics chip
Xbox: 64MB of RAM (unified memory architecture)
Dreamcast: 16MB (plus 8MB Video RAM, 2MB Sound RAM)
Nintendo 64: 4MB (+parity) Rambus D-RAM (expandable to 8MB)
PlayStation: 2MB (plus 1MB Video RAM, 512kb Sound RAM)
Memory Bus Bandwidth
GameCube: 2.6 GB/s (Gigabytes per second)
PlayStation 2: 3.2 GB/s (Gigabytes per second)
Xbox: 6.4GB/s (Gigabytes per second)
Dreamcast: 800 MB/s (Megabytes per second)
Nintendo 64: 500 MB/s (Megabytes per second) or about 0.5 GB/s
PlayStation: 132 MB/s (Megabytes per second)

how about some ps3 games

Games running slow

hi there, i have a rooted Samsung Galaxy 3 as most of you too.
here's the thing, i've rooted my phone, installed 3d chainfire and updated all of my drivers (of chainfire that is) installed setcpu and set it on perfromance base on 1300MHz. after that i thought to myself well a everything is done i can start downloading games now, i first downloaded PES 2011 and felt really excited when it booted and expected some good gaming and fun when traveling but when i started the game it was just horrid...the game is running approximately at 20% of it's usual game speed which kills it off entirely it feels like i'm playing the game with VSync enabled all the time.
So i was hoping if i could get some feedback from you guys to inform me what i did/am doing wrong or to give your impressions on the way things are shaping up for you.
thx in advance.
Hi
Did you tried different configurations specific to the game?
Did you installed plugins?
well, different games needs different configurations and each of them works good with a specific plugin.
Here is some examples:
For Nfs Shift you only need to select "Reduce texture quality and Qualcomm plugin.
For Modern Combat: Sandstorm you have to select both "Reduce texture quality" and "Reduce texture size" and choose Qualcomm plugin.
So the best way to play a lag free game is to try different settings.
Good Luck
trust me i've installed the plugins and have all 3 updated to the newest version i have tested all possible configurations and plugins even reducing texture and size settings still i can't get the game to run at more then 20-30% of it's potential...it's kinda sad as i saw that many of you are playing games smoothly on the SG3
Try using on of g3mod OC bus kernels.

em, could you please provide a link (with possible explanations) as i'm kinda new to this stuff, i got my SG3 a few months back and never had an android before.
this topic Must be very useful to you:
[How to]Play "HD" games on SG3 (NOVA, Shift, Asphalt5, AC, PES11 and more!)
PES 2011 working slow on every G3. You can't do anything with that but games like Nova, Nfs Shift and many others working great. You can try Psx emulator also, Fpse is the best I think and then you can play with psx games like Tekken 3, Gran Turismo, Civilization or Mortal Kombat.

So, overclocked processor even to 1300 Mhz doesn't provide performance in 3D games. (Neocore benchmark @ 667 Mhz - 13 FPS, Neocore benchmark @ 1200 Mhz - 14 FPS). Practically zero growth in performance of 3D.
Fpse emulator? The same situation. gran Turismo (time trial, only Your car on the track - 30-42 FPS - playable) Gran turismo (race, 6 cars - slow, not playable)
I5800 is not for games and emulation.
well, G3 is not good for 3D games, that's just how it is. There are awesome 2d games for android though. Refraction, rope cut, mx mayhem-a bit slow but fun and playable, angry birds all run fine. believe me if you had high end 3d games on g3 they would become boring in a week. better to just stick to your pc or console for real games
