Rooting Asus Zenpad Z380M - newbie to Android looking for advice on apps to do this. - Asus Zenpad 8.0 Questions & Answers

I want to move various large apps onto the micro SD Card, something which was possible on my last Zenpad but no longer on this one running Android 7.0 and I've been advised I need to root it.
This is totally new territory to me and I'm looking for apps which will do this but ideally create a safe backup first on my PC in case I mess up.
I'd tried to load Kingroot onto my PC but the McAfee Virus Scanner prevented me from running the install exe file saying there was a virus.
Any advice appreciated...

Only one option, downgrade to MM, install TWRP, then install Magisk. All you needed info can be find in this forum, I rooted my own Asus Zenpad 8 (P00A)

[Q] NookColor Rooting questions

I am very interested in rooting my NC but have several questions that I cannot find answers to. Maybe you guys can help.
1. I know rooting voids the warranty. Can you restore to stock after rooting so they have no idea that you have rooted if a problem arises?
2. Can you still run BN apps after rooting? For example, I bought a Boynton book and still want to access and use it. Is that possible?
3. Does the software that I install with rooting update automatically or do I have to manually update the software every so often?
4. I have read that the Froyo option is best for NC. Is that true?
5. I am running software version 1.2.0 and my serial number begins with 2011. My model number is BNRV200. Is your Autonooter 3.0.0 for this version or is there another version?
Thanks for any and all help you can provide!!
1. Yes you can restore it to stock, have a look around for the answer. Rooting theoretically voids your warranty. Though don't think B&N can find out, at least the average shop assistant won't
2. Well if you just root your device then it will still run the Nook firmware so the only change will be that you can install non-Nook market apps and run apps as root.
Now if you go on the root of installing a custom build e.g. CM7 you can still install the Nook app--like you can do on any android device--and have your library there.
3. Nope you will most likely have to update manually.
4. Well since Nook's update 1.2 it runs Froyo natively. CM7 is based on Gingerbread, while there is also Honeycomb but that is based on an SDK... I know I must have confused you more... so better go to the Android development section and have a read.
5. I would recommend ManualNooter: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1054027
Nice reply sid
Sent from my Nexus S for Netflix but really a NC.
Thank You sibby!! So, if I root and then need to manually update the software, how do I know when an update is available? Do I just have to keep up with it? I will read the info you suggested. Thanks so much again!!
Another question. If I go with the manual root, then that isn't resetting the entire operating system (as it were) but just allowing me to install non market apps, correct? That is really all I want to do anyways.
One way to get more out of a Nook Color is to run Cyanogenmod 7 off of an SD card. This does not require rooting, does not change the stock install at all, and does not void your warranty.
Installing the latest stable CM7 version with the "Size Agnostic SD Card" method is not very difficult, although it requires a microSD card reader on your computer.
Just got a Nook Color bnrv200rb

I have that same model number and was wondering if this advice still applies or if there has been a new release for auto-nooter that works with it or something. Thanks

[Q] Newbie root question

I want to root my nexus 7 2014, 4.4.4, to run stickmount and to run "[EXPERIMENTAL] Enable Mirroring from any device". I have not rooted a device before.
1) can i take a full backup before rooting and then restore to save my apps and settings? i have lots of stuff loaded and do not want to spend a ton of time reloading.
2) I am not going to load another ROM. just that the two apps i want to run need root access. what is the easiest method for doing this - hopefully one with pictures and a single script.

Fire HD 8 [2016][6th Gen] 5.3.2.1 - What's Currently Possible?

Hi All,
I was very happy to see that root has been achieved for our device but unfortunately not for v5.3.2.1. The root thread says that any attempt to downgrade 5.3.2.1 by sideload will result in a hard brick.
1. Will a factory restore leave me at 5.3.2.1 or will I be downgraded to something that can be worked with?
2. Is there any way to prevent updates on the device itself? I don't want to hear that a root for 5.3.2.1 has become available only to find that I've been silently and automatically upgraded. I'm not really interested in trying to block addresses on the router, unless that's truly the only option.
3. When sideloading apps, what is the correct location for obb files? The two Android/obb folders have empty folders with the names of some working apps I've installed, but no actual obb files in the app subolders. (e.g. obb/appname/appname.obb -there's no appname.obb file. Does the Kindle put the obbs somewhere else)
4. Other than getting the playstore on the device, is there anything else we can do with 5.3.2.1?
My main reason for root is for AdAway. The others don't seem to block ads in apps...
Thanks for the help.

Unfortunately once on the latest, you're always on the latest. The only thing we can really do is install Google Apps and the Play Store. Also unfortunately, I cannot answer any of your other questions. I got my Kindle to put into my dashboard of my truck so not doing much with it other than play music.
Edit: Okay I take that back, I can answer the Update question. The only current way for us unrooted folks to not get updates automatically, is to factory reset, setup Kindle, NEVER OPEN THE UPDATE SETTING!!!! I thought that mine auto updated on it's own, but I found out that my wife was dicking around on it and went in the update section by accident. When she got done and put it to charge, it updated.

What apps can I safely move or remove?

Let me start by saying I am a new user (and, trying to be a responsible one...). I have spent several hours reading threads, etc., but I think I'm a little overwhelmed. I'm not totally sure where to start. Hopefully, I can get a little guidance to point me in the right direction. Thanks.
Here's my situation. My Nexus had become unusable, taking up to 30 seconds to respond to a touch. After considerable research, and realizing it was no longer supported, I decided root it and improve performance.
Recently, I added back one of the apps that I had purchased, only to find it was the free (restricted) version. After more searching, I decided to install a modded Google Play Store. It will not transfer to the sys partition. Apparently, because there is too little space there. Apps2Rom is reporting 7.04 MB free space. I have managed to get it to run, but it gives an error message saying "No internet connection", even though I am able to use my browser.
So, I am trying to delete unneeded apps from the sys partition, or move them to the SD partition. How do I know which ones can I safely move or delete? I have installed very few apps since I rooted it. Most of the ones listed came with the root installation. And, can I delete the odex files?
Here is my configuration:
Nexus 7 (2012) Wifi, Grouper.
Android 4.4.4
Kernel 3.1.10
Rooted A few weeks ago, I rooted my Nexus using TWRP.
Tools installed:
SuperSU
Root Explorer
ES File Explorer
Lucky Patcher
Freedom
Apps2Rom
I'd appreciate any leads or guidance. Thanks!

Delete SHIELD Experience Upgrade 7.0 (Oreo) update files?

My Shield TV is complaining about limited storage space. I see that it has downloaded the SHIELD Experience Upgrade 7.0 files however I do NOT want to update right now (possibly ever...)
How can I delete the SHIELD Experience Upgrade 7.0 files to free up that space and block them from re-downloading? (at least for now) My Shield TV "just works" and is currently enjoying record breaking WAF - I have no interest is ruining that by trying to upgrade.
Answering my own question. I found the upgrade file in the following folder: /data/data/com.nvidia.ota/files
I then cleared data for the "System upgrade" app so that it would realize the upgrade file was no longer there.
So you need root access for this..? Cos cant find any file/path, what File explorer to use etc. I am trying to delete the Shield Experience 7 Oreo update that I accidentally downloaded, dont want to upgrade now, and its messing up my Android system updates form the Play Store.. cant install them, probably because of space.
