I have S7 Edge Exynos, planning to upgrade to S8+, worth it? - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Guides, News, & Discussion

Hey guys, i have owned S7e for a year now, i won aj auction on Ebay for Arcric Silver S8+, guess how much?, $755!!, I haven't paid for it just yet, thought i should take some opinions first. So from S7e to S8+, is it worth the upgrade? Especially in terms of Battery life?

I have both, so is it worth it?:
from battery POV: a little
from a Design POV: yes
from a performance POV: a little (CPU is absolutely the same, GPU is a lot better->I am talking about the Exynos variant here, the RAM in my s8 is slower than the one in my s7!, but UFS 2.1 storage is noticeably faster in s8)
from a camera POV: just minimally better
from a Software POV: looks better, but lags\skipped frames as in s7 software (plus you can flash s8 rom in s7 so that's not a reason)
Note: Most protective cases for the s8 make it impossibly unpractical for you to use the fingerprint reader (placement which is very annoying anyway, much, much worse than s7)

Always had that in mind, buy the S8+ and sell S7E, especially because my S7e is Single SIM

I just upgraded the same scenario as you. I say go for it and sell the other. It's worth it. But if you plan to root make sure it's not the Snapdragon model.

Defenetly worth it. I had the s7 edge Exynos. The s8+ is by far the best device I have had. Get your money spent lol

Yes its a much better device and it would be worth updating if just for the bigger screen.
Just make sure you get the exynos S8 NOT the crappy locked down snapdragon.

Coming from a Nexus 6

I'm coming from a Nexus 6, I'm not sure how I'll readjust to the "small" screen, I'm currently debating between the S7 Edge and the LG G5.
Got any advice on which phone to chose?
I'd go with a note but they won't be announcing one for another year, and I don't want to wait for the S7 Edge+
Thanks!

I have the V10 and I like it, but the S7 Edge is gorgeous, so I'm thinking of taking the plunge. The G5, while innovative, will require many subsequent investments I would think, which is kind of a deal breaker for me, since I upgrade every 6 months or so. No point in buying a phone and then plunking down a lot of money on the add-ons if I'm only going to keep it a short while. Plus, it sounds like an accessory bag may be needed for the G5!! :silly:

I have a Nexus 6 too atm and also seriously considering the Galaxy S7 ha ha. From the few hands-on video`s and reports i saw i think that atm the S7 is the overall better phone of the two. Maybe wait a few weeks and wait for real reviews so you have more info to base an opinion on. The S7 screen is a bit bigger (5,5 vs 5,3 inch for the G5). But both are great phones and i don`t know if the SD 820 is better or worse then the Exynos 8890 (at least used in Europe).
LG G5 looks ugly compared to Galaxy S7.
LG G5 no app's drawer. so think about it.
i will go for galaxy S7 becauase of water proof, and bigger battery. and looks alot better especially the Gold color. edge is the most sexy phone ever.
if i wanted to go for LG then i will go for LG V10 instead. if you like big phones.

No app drawer is a non-issue with android. Simply use a 3rd party launcher - most of which are better than stock anyway.

I'm an LG fan - have had the G3, G4 and V10 and I've loved the rear volume and power buttons. I'm probably not the best person to ask because I change phones almost as much as I change my underwear :silly:, but to me, there is a much larger investment than just the phone. If you are anything like me, you'll want most, if not all of the add-ons. While I don't know what they will cost, I doubt they will be cheap. That, combined with the fact that there probably won't be 3rd party versions of those add-ons, means several hundred dollars more to pour into the G5. Considering how long I keep a phone, it makes no sense for me, but if you plan on keeping if for a long time, it might be a great device! I am about 90% sure I'll pre-order the S7 Edge tonight after midnight. It's flat-out gorgeous, and now that it's waterproof and has a micro-sd slot (why only a max of 200gb is beyond me, but it's enough for me), and a huge battery, it might be the perfect phone!
Hope this helps a little....

The S7 Edge's screen is 5.5, right? That's only .2 smaller than my V10 (current phone). I am only 5'7", and my hands are pretty small. I use a strap on the V10 to keep from dropping it, so no, I won't lose sleep over -.2". The 5C is much smaller than the S7 E.
Nexus 6 is much bigger, so yeah you will have some significant adjustments to make. I love the nexus 6 keyboard space and the fact that i dont reach for a tablet nearly as much when using it is a plus. Any phone over 5 inches is a two hander for typing or using quickly to me, especially the slippery ones. So why not go big, but thats just my opinion. Next time your out hold your nexus next to an iphone 6s plus and you will see the screen size difference. My mental block about the s7 edge is the 32gb only offering. If they only offer one size why not make it the medium 64gb of last years offerings. They want to push gaming on us but then give us a very limited 32gb phone. Makes no sense to me. What will make me really mad is if they offer a 64gb version about 3 months later after all the initial buyers and hype subside.

Samsung stated they only put 200gb because that's all the market has to offer right now. I'm sure the interface will still be the same for larger cards (1TB, 2TB), like LG G5 spec.
Read or saw it on a video somewhere, forgot.

Galaxy s7 edge or nexus 6p

I currently have the galaxy s7 edge and my friend has the nexus 6p. I was thinking about trading with him. Do you all think that would be a good trade for me or should I keep the s7 edge?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using Tapatalk
Assuming both are in good shape and you want the Nexus, I would sell the S7 Edge and buy a new Nexus 6P. Your model of the S7 in mint condition is selling for an average of $650 or so on Swappa and a brand new Nexus 6P starts at $450 for 32GB.
keep the s7 edge..

Money wise not worth it, you can sell your s7 and buy new 6p lol
Sell your S7Edge and buy the nexus 6p brand new and you will recoup 150$
I say 6p. I've used the s7 and it's just like the s6. The incremental processor upgrade is big on paper but unnoticeable in real life use. you could get a used s6 for cheaper. Not worth it IMO. The 6p gets updated monthly and will have N when it's released in Q3. The value of a Nexus device is undeniable.
Without question the S7 Edge imo.
If you like to tinker with your phone, the 6P is the only way to go. I'd sell the Galaxy, buy a 6p, and use the extra cash for some brewskis.
Get 6P only if You're Nexus die-hard fan, otherwise keep S7.
Nexus 6P is still very solid and capable device, but S7 has far better camera - both hardware and software - better battery, SD card support and superior screen witch is much brighter outdoors. Of course touchwiz can be a pain it the ass, but installing meterial theme from samsung apps and custom launcher will do the job.

Overdid it saying far better camera. Nexus 6p has just as good camera as many reviews already proved, even in low light you get pictures that are a bit darker compared to s7, but with way less noise. Agree on other points tho, battery, sd slot, dont know about screen, happy with mine no problems here. Overall s7e better device, but pricier.

Anyone jumping to the Note 7?

Is anyone jumping from their S7 Edge to the Note 7?
If so or if not, what are your reasons behind it?
Sent from my SM-G935F using XDA-Developers mobile app
The only way I would is if my S7 Edge was still within return policy. Otherwise I cannot see how anyone could logically justify paying the full price for a Note 7 if they already have an S7 Edge.
Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk
Nah, very happy with the S7 Edge, the best phone I've ever owned. I enjoyed the stylus on my Note 3, but not to the point where I'd bother with the extra expense of another upgrade only 4-5 months into a 24 month contract. Also, thanks to Vodafone messing me around at the start of the contract in March I have a deal I'd never get on the Note 7, paying only £75 a month for two S7 Edge phones (one for me and one for the wife) with unlimited mins/texts and 15gb of data a month per phone. With 2x Spotify premium accounts thrown in for free.
Besides, the differences in terms of hardware is negligible and this forum has already started introducing roms based upon the Note 7. From what I can see, the stylus and Type-C USB are the only real differences under the hood.
sounds like entering funny (sorry but I think iris scanning is funny and will not have health/radiation certificate for eyes) space station with low fuel (3500mah) and many other problems (possibly battery drain, bad firmwares, questionable IP68 and Gorilla Glass, camera problems -like pink dots in HDR on, bad front camera quality) by paying 850€ to the ticket. Definitely stay in S7 Edge and wait Nougat...
It has an iris scanner (wich needs you to swipe the screen first and then calibrate and then whatever the f..) (wich doesnt work in the dark) (fingerprint - max 2 seconds / iris scanner - 4-5 seconds *you need light.) and a stylus. Thats an s7 edge with those 2 things. The stylus is ok for drawing. Period. If you have a hand to hold it you have fingers.
Perfromance - s7 scored 140k benchmark points when it was first released. Note 7 scored 144k. It has a newer software but with android nougat we will have the same software with little changes.
Is note 7 better? Yes.
Do i feel the urge to change my s7 with a note 7?
No,because im not that guy wich films both phones at 240f/s to see that one is faster by 2 nanoseconds.
Phones should be changed at every 2 years. Maybe once a year if it really has "a gallaxy of possibilities" more than the older phone has.
Changing my phone from 5 to 5 months? For a stylus? NOPE.
If 1.2k $ were my lunch money yea i'd change it,but as it isn't..no.
I really dont feel the need for a better phone. I feel the need of 2k games and apps, wich actual gameplay and funny stuff i like. Even with my Grand Prime all the apps were buttery smooth...more or less. Grand prime has a 20k points on antutu,my personal s7 has 134k. If i dont feel that difference i wont feel a 10k points difference.
Again - note 7 is a beast. I'd buy it if i had a flip phone, but i have the s7 edge. It doesnt worth the upgrade.
Why change.
Same soc
Same ram size.
No performance improvement only more bloatware because of the pen.

Had I not got the 7Edge a few months back ... yes, I probably would buy the Note.
As is, there is minimal difference so I won't spend to much thought on it.
The phone I keep an eye out for now is the LG V20. - It's the only one of interest for me for now. Lack of weather proofing could be a deal breaker though.

cause I'm asking why u talk about a LG phone on the note 7 thread :v
I'm thinking about it. I got my s7e free. Reason I'm thinking about it besides the nice little improvements is
1: the screen size. I came from an LG V10
2: More internal memory
3: iris scanner actually sounds awesome. I'd mostly use the fingerprint sensor more for unlocking but Samsung is said to be working with banks to incorporate it with mobile banking.
I actually think the pen looks cool but not exactly sure how much I'd use it. USB type c also looks bad ass but could be a pain not having a ton of them laying around.
@QBerto I believe he was talking about LG in response to the comment above his.
@hello00 The G4 and V10 we're tons better. Don't know about the G5 but seemed like they were in the right direction.
Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
The screen size difference between the Note 7 and S7 Edge really isn't worth the upgrade. I came from a Note 3 (same screen size as the Note 7 at 5.7") and I barely noticed the difference.
If I didn't have JOD probably not. Since I do why not. The monthly price is a little more by a few dollars I think, and I get the pen back. Not to mention the blue color.

To tell you the truth:
My biggest mistake was selling my S6 Edge+
The S7 Edge display is - in my opinion - more disturbing than helping. Good phone yes but the curved display is making more mistakes than it is helpful.
Just my opinion. If the S7 - NOT EDGE - would be availibe in 5.5" or 5.7" I would change to asap.

might consider it if t-mobile throws in a BOGO on the notes, like with the s7 edges, where i got additional 2 gear vrs and 2 year of netflix.

Stay with note 5 or get s8

So now the s8 has been announced anyone getting it? I am not sure if i can wait for the next note to come out. My note 5 battery has been awful lately only lasting just over half a day. Been turning itself off too other day it went from 50% to turn it self to 10% battery.
But i also love the note series.
Got the note 5 which still in good condition and a brand new s7e so i think ill donate or sell them when the note 8 arrives .. besides i got other thoughts to leave samsung behind cuz of their fail to fast update their software (and release their source code to devs) to latest android and get 2nd gen of google pixel device ..

Well the only reason i got the s7e is the software, if you go to the s7e thread you'll see lot of roms have been out and most of them are AOSP with the latest android .. i do miss the spen i use the it almost in anything you gotta see me at work in meetings lol .. the good things note5 not offering is the water resistant and a larger battery somedays i get 6hrsSOT and a better camera and since i got AOSP on it the camera is currently bad compared to stock.
In your condition and since the s8 will release after a month with huge price tag i recommend to get the s7e in a low price or just wait till the s8 prices drop. you can check other phones like OP3T too on youtube and compare.

I personally am not going to get the S8 not even the Note 8 because the S8 already sounds bad to me since all it has is 4GB ram and a 3,000mah battery.. The battery totally killed that to me!! I thought Samsung would put a better longer lasting one in it and not the same thing as last year!! My Note 5's battery is still great with all the bloatware off and apps restricted from using any background internet and restricted from starting up until I need them I'm currently getting almost 8 hours SOT!! If the battery ever degrades I'll just replace it because it's super easy all you have to do is heat the back up around the sides and then it can be pulled off.

Maybe the screen is much more efficient? Idk.
Keep the note 5.
Because of s pen and finger print on the front. And it still has noughat.
Replace your battery and do not use fast charging so your battery would not die easily.
Go get it if u got extra money in ur future.

i will go for note 8.....life without stylus is hell.....i hope sammy will not drop stylus functionality in note 8.:good:
For me it all depends on if the bootloader is locked or not for the t mobile version.
My guess is that it will be locked unfortunately.
If that's the case then I'll keep my note5 until it completely dies and then get whatever pixel phone is out but only if it has an amoled display.

I don't like the screen ratio

I'll definitely wait for the Note 8

I picked up a Mate 9 to hold me over till the Note 8. Hopefully the aspect ratio isn't to weird. I hate how the S8 is so tall and skinny, hence the different aspect ratio. Wish certain phones would stay flat. Using my note 5 to type this and have a s7 edge brand new just sitting here. I thought I'd get used to it with the curved screen, but I didn't. Should have turned it back in within the 14 days, now I am stuck with it. Anybody want a mint n5 or brand new s7 edge.... Well like new.

From S6 to S8. Is it worth the upgrade?

Hey guys.
I have the Galaxy S6 and I'm wondering if it is worth to upgrade from S6 to S8.
I've been using the S6 for quite some time, and now they launched Android Nougat (7.0) to the Galaxy S6, which I am currently using the official version.
But, I am wondering if I should upgrade to the Galaxy S8 (Non Plus) variant.
I'm in love with s8's screen.
If you can, please post a "reason" why I should or not be upgrading.
Thanks!

Better SOC, better graphics, better screen, more ram, more memory 64gb, sd card, better battery, better camera front and back, usb C, better performance overall......BUT if you didn't see all this already and you're still in doubt, might be that it doesn't worth the upgrade for you.
I did this. Battery almost 2x, Speed great, too.

Same here. Switched from S6 Edge. It is a major upgrade in every way, just like OP said. No regrets.

I upgraded from the S6 Edge to the S8
As the title says I upgraded from the s6 edge and let me tell you it is worth the upgrade! :good:
Not least of all the S8 is waterproof, having paid £250 to repair a water damaged s6 edge last year i think its worth upgrading for this reason alone.
I like the fact the finger print scanner is on the back - it never made sense to me that it was on the front in the first place.
Face unlocker is fast to react.
And I am just chumping at the bit to get a DEX like dock (however at this point not willing to pay £110 for it).
Interesting comments.
I am really tempted into upgrading it. Since my S6 sometimes struggle when I'm scrolling on Chrome or Facebook, and I'm too far down.
I think it is time for that upgrade!
Is the battery really enough? I mean.. 3000 mAH on the S8.

Battery life has been a mixed bag for me - I'm not quite seeing as good a result as I've seen many post but it's likely due to varying conditions. It definitely gets better life than my S6 - I wouldn't make it to Noon with that and I start my day, off the charger at 430am. With the S8, I get through the entire day, no problem but might need a hit from the fast charger if I do some browsing after dinner...

Well you can upgrade but i recommend waiting for another phone with the same SOC...
My dad bought the S8 and is pretty meh...Narrow design, same screen as the s6 just bigger and slightly higher res which makes it looks strange...camera is the same as an S6 on good light conditions and slightly better on dark conditions...Figerprint positioning is absurd...Battery is not that good...SOC is newer but you wont notice any difference unless you try hard...And the price is way too high for whats is worth...
I dont want to start a new thread but i am wondering the same but i am coming from a oneplus one.. again is their any bonus in upgrading.. and how is development for samsung devices
i went from s6 edge + to s8. Very happy so far. the form factor fits better in the hand, software is fine. I like the back being glass. good feel overall.
A BIG YES. I upgrade from a s7 edge and to me it was so worth it
If you like the S6 and want to stay with Samsung, I'd say yes. Otherwise, I'd say wait until more info is available on the Google Pixel 2.
It's such a large upgrade from the S6 it's silly to even have to talk about all the reasons why. For comparison, the S8+ made the S7 Edge seem very dated. There is no comparison, unless you like old, slow phones with far inferior displays, memory size, camera..... I could go on. Not even in the same ballpark. By far the best phone made to date - S8/S8+. That changes every 6 months or so with a new phone taking the crown, but right now this is the top dog.
Agree, S8&S8+ are top-of-the-foodchain!
How are the lags on the S8? Because on the S6 when I'm scrolling in chrome or facebook I get lags. Usual android thing. That's what making me wonder if I should wait iphone 8 or get the galaxy s8. Btw, I don't plan going to Google Pixel 2 because I like the Samsung devices. I've always had Samsung phones. Tried Nexus once but I'm not a fan of stock android.
Upgraded today to the Grey/silver version from S6.
Ordered awesome spigen case too.
Role on Friday.

Zero lag in anything I have done on my S8+. Smoothest, fastest phone I have ever used.
I went from s6 Edge to S8. I think it's worth it. The battery is much better. Bigger screen, not as wide so easier to hold. It's pretty better all around. If you got nougat on your s6 then the software experience will not feel drastically different. Haven't really tested the camera head to head yet.

I have to disagree with you on a few points:
"far inferior displays" - Just because the S8 has a more futuristic look with its smaller bezels and increased height over the S6 I don't see it being fair to consider the S6 to be far inferior. The S6 featured an incredible screen at its time, and compared to alot of flagships out there it still is an amazing screen anno 2017! (pixeldensity is still better on the S6 vs the S8 by the way)
"memory size" - Just because the S8 features 1GB more, it does not mean that you actually use it. Just because it looks better on paper does not make it essential in daily usage. 4GB future proof? Yes! Absolutely necessary at this moment? Probably not.
"camera" - If you are talking about the front facing camera, then yes probably you are right. The rear camera however is only marginaly improved over the S6.
Don't get me wrong, I agree with you that the S8 beats the S6 in all of those points, but I think its actual difference in daily usage is to be argued whether the TS needs to upgrade or not
From S6 Edge to S8 is a perfect upgrade at all levels. I gave S6 to dad and I am using S8
