Possibly a serious camera issue - HTC U11 Guides, News, & Discussion

Basically, if you use digital zoom extensively (both with the slider and fingers) during video recording it corrupts the resulting file.
I think it is most likely a faulty unit or even fake because the YouTube channel the video is on prioritizes Sony phones.
There is already a video with a failed attempt to replicate the glitch:
But still, this can be a real issue and it would be great if someone else tries to replicate it.

I have no issue at all on my unit. I can't replicate it at all.

Thanks for trying, on the video there is an asian unit so, probably, it occurs on early firmware (the phone was released in Asia first).

Blurry video recording

I have noticed a problem with the video recording on my HD2 as of lately. When I get ready to record a video the image on the screen is sharp. As soon as I hit the record button the image goes out of focus and is no longer sharp. As soon as I stop recording the image on the screen is sharp again. I don't remember it doing this when I first got the phone. I'm not sure if I changed something in the registry to cause this problem or not. Has anyone else heard of this happening or know of a way to fix it? I searched, but it does not look like others have posted this issue before.
Thanks
P.S. Here are my video settings as of now.
Resolution VGA (640x480)
Review Duration: No Review
Capture Format: MPEG4
Sharpness +5
Sounds like the auto focus is some how messing up. Could be something on the lens that is making out of focus or something. Not sure what else would cause that. If you are running a cooked rom maybe try reflashing it.
The lens is clean and the camera focus is fine in camera mode. It will also focus fine in video mode until the second I hit the record button. The focus issue only occurs when I hit record to capture a video.
Am I really the only person with this problem?
I also have this problem but with the normal HD2, the camera for pictures works fine. The problem occurs when recording video, first its all clear..hit record...blurry...im not sure what to do :O
Glad to know I'm not alone in this problem. I tried to record a quick clip today at work, and the camera was actually able to stay in focus when I hit the record button. Here is the sample clip. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bB70tTDl1t0
This is the best quality I have been able to get out of it. I'm going to keep messing with it to see if anything changes.

HW mic issue - need to record mono

This is an unusual request. Is there a way to make the camera app record video with mono audio?
I have an international i9505, rooted, but my s4 seems to be affected with some kind of mic defect that makes one of the audio channels present a lot of pops and cracking sounds. This seems to be a hardware issue that affects some s4,specially the first ones sold in Europe.
The best workaround I found so far is to record stereo and discard the audio from the defective channel afterwards, in a painful process that includes transferring the files to a pc for processing...
I found some 3rd party camera apps that have this option (mono audio ), like "camera jb+" and "snap camera hdr". I bought both, but they generate 15fps files that are much worse than the 30fps files from the s4 default camera app.
So.. What I am wondering is if I could somehow change the way the camera app records audio (maybe changing some xml,... I don't know).
Or... Maybe someone could point me some nice 3rd party app that could solve my issue.
Why not Update the whole firmware ? You may solve this issue

I have the latest stock firmware. Android 4.3, rom MKE.
You may have to check the mic connector .... maybe you drop the phone and the connector got loose

I won't open the phone for that. I think it would give me more problems than benefits.
Besides, the issue is shared by a lot of people and seems to be a hw factory defect. I gave up a long time ago trying to fix it.

What I want now is a good workaround. Maybe a camera mod that allows me to record mono...

[Q] Rear camera filming

Hi
At one time I tried to record a video where zoom in and out was used. The problem was that the zoom out after zooming in for some minutes causes the video on display and the recorded file to become corrupted on the right side of the video.
Can any one verify this problem ?
That was the first trying to record a video on the new phone on a particular occasion and a surprising issue was on display.
Then I didn't use the camera at all for few weeks.
Then after a few week trying to replicate the issue and it was reproducible.
What do you think?
So no body is interested in this issue or is it just my phone?

[Q] constant autofocus?

I've not really used my Z2 for video much.
I was at my kids nativity play and tried to do so, but the camera was constantly autofocussing and the footage is unwatchable.
Nobody else with different phones had this issue.
I tried setting it to manual and also played with different focussing modes and it was just the same.
Has anyone else had this issue, is it hardware or software. I have a feeling it may be connected to the facial recognition, but like I say it produced awful footage and part of the reason for buying this phone was the superior camera.
Trying to work out if it is faulty and should be returned.
Thanks

A question - is this a video recording problem only or its the same with photo focusing. And second - try recording a video wothout video stabilisation option enabled / stead shot - off. Metering - Multi / centre. or spot - tap the screen where you want to get a focus. If this does not help - reinstall the firmware - and if this doesn't work aswell give it to repair.
Thanks.
I have only really noticed it on video. There were a lot of kids and i suspect yhe facial focus stuff was getting confused, but i turned off most of the stuff you suggested and it still did it.
I am struggling to reproduce this issue, so whether hardware or software it does appear to be that scenario that sets it off. Will maybe go somewhere busy and try and play.
Have downloaded the basic google camera to see if that does the same.
Thanks

Distorted audio on video capture

I have my Verizon S5 currently sitting on 4.4.4 NK7. I've noticed no matter what video recording app I use, whether it be Snapchat or the native camera app, that audio on video playback always seems a bit distorted if the video was captured in a loud environment. Yet I see friends with other newer android phones and iPhones that have recorded footage the same venues (concerts) where their audio is much more tolerable. Has anyone else experienced this? I've been holding off on updating to lollipop, but if that is a known fix I might go that route.
For example, even recording a video on my car with the audio at a normal volume results in distorted audio quality.
Lollipop won't change anything, cause that's a big problem to not fix immediately. Are you possibly covering a mic when recording? Are phone calls clear? I'm not sure how to fix your problem, I'm just throwing out ideas. A search didn't bring up anything.
Apparently it's a common problem within the Samsung phones:

Was hoping there was a software option to adjust the gain level it records at.

I saw the xda thread but wasn't sure if it was the same. Someone said disable the noise reduction option, and that should fix it.
