US Tablet User - Can I get to Nougat? - Huawei Mediapad M3 Questions & Answers

Hi all, I'm a US user with W09 and would like to get it to Nougat - I have read the entire "Update to EMUI 5.0" thread and there appeared to be several possible routes, but most were regarding the European version.
I have a US Wi-Fi model and have no allegiance in keeping it a US one, if there's a way to remove the regional aspect to gain access to the update (BETA or otherwise).
I would greatly appreciate if someone who has some experience with or is very confident of the correct path would shed some light for me.
Thank you!

Have you tried update via Firmware Finder? Witch firmware version do you have now?

I've just finished reading the entire thread linked above that mentions that method a number of times, so I'm certainly familiar with it, but haven't tried it because sprinkled throughout that thread are plenty of issues encountered. Also, there's no mention of US hardware/firmware specific instructions.
I'm on W09 as mentioned in the OP - thanks for the reply!

Install Firmware Finder from Playstore and post a screenshot with firmwares that appear there.

I'm away from my tablet at the moment but will do later on when I get home.

We will see after that what we can do. I have updated my tablet to Nougat, but I have BTV-DL09 (4G European version).
To change region I think you have to unlock bootloader.

Here's what's in firmware finder @33adi

What's the advantage to switching from US to EU roms? I unlocked, rooted, enabled 5ghz band for wifi, and now only need nougurt but much like the original poster not sure the best route.

The advantage of removing the US stock rom is that the European one has a beta available that is very stable. My thread is seeking someone who's confident of the steps to 1st going European & 2nd installing nougat once there, as there was some debate of complexity to doing even that.

I've been through exactly what you are wanting to do @dutchdoggs54 . Unfortunately I can't tell you step by step how I got to where I'm at.
I was on W09128BXXX out of the box . Read the topic that you have linked in your first post and decided to do it using firmware finder to force the update to Nougat as they described. It actually went very well and Nougat worked great with the exception of Bluetooth not working.
I have to say during the upgrade when it booted into recovery and it was TWRP I was concerned. Believe it had an error but it worked and replaced TWRP as I recall with a stock recovery.
So after all that I decided I wanted my tablet branded as a BTV-W09C100B006. Below is the topic where a member thought they bricked their tablet.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mediapad-m3/how-to/bricked-m3-btv-w09-t3612699
They were given directions to download the Full update package for the version I just mentioned.
This member got their tablet working again and in the process found that 5Ghz wifi is enabled on C100B006 by default.
That was the main reason I rooted my tablet.
I followed the directions knowing I force install a different version of Nougat from your link.
Downloaded the full version software and dropped it in the dload folder on my US tablet and did the upgrade.
Tablet rebooted and shortly after it rebooted again going to recovery (I tried may times to boot). Don't recall the error but after I unlocked my bootloader again it reset the tablet and I was able to access it again. I did relock the bootloader so I can see updates without any problems after that.
In the end I got what I was after. My tablet shows as a BTV-W09C100B006 and can check for updates.
5Ghz wifi is enabled by default. As I said I relocked the bootloader so I'm not rooted. Overall it's works so well I'll wait for Nougat to get released and then do the official upgrade. After the scare of booting to recovery it was worth every nervous minute of it.

Try to talk to OP from this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9/...-root-t3374068
Maybe he can make this app available to Mediapad M3, then changing OEMINFO will be easy.
I posted a question there.

No luck
Ok, so I tried following @Samavb's great instructions and guidance in the other thread last night. Made it all the way to the point where he says to install 009 from the Huawei website - got it downloaded and loaded up on the tablet only to find that it wouldn't install because the 009 file on the website is BTV-DL09 not the BTV-W09 version a US tablet would need.
So I got frustrated and tried installing the B301 build that appeared on firmware finder when I was on the W09-006 build...this was nougat and was cool but no keyboard and the play store wouldn't install anything, so I was forced to revert back to 006.
So, long story short, hours of work have confirmed that there doesn't appear to be a way to get a US tablet to fully functional Nougat at the moment. If there was a 009 or 010 build like Samavb mentions for the US model, maybe it would work, but those aren't anywhere to be found - firmware finder, russian site he mentions or otherwise.
So, I'll happily sit on 006 and wait for a US OTA update. That is unless anyone can tell me exactly how to make this US model into a European model.

Same boat as original poster. US w09 on build c128b003. Firmware finder just finds the same version. Anyone know when there might be a us version update released. I thought it was supposed to be may so have been waiting patiently.....but may is over.

In Firmware Finder select the menu in the top left corner. (3 bars)
Right below your model number, select change model and enter BTV-W09C100 and then search.
You should see B301 and it's a full OTA. However, as I understand it this is just a beta/test release.
Only issue I had with it, bluetooth didn't work. Seeing as how I don't use it, didn't bother me.
I highly recommend you fall back to the other topic about forcing the upgrade to Nougat.
Only difference from my tablet and yours. I was on C128B002. I had already rooted and couldn't get that update.

Also US 64gb version here and hoping for an update to Nougat and EM5. Would love to see it!
Huawei have been quite attentive for updates in other markets which is great. Too bad the non-LTE version in US doesn't get the same love.
Buying this tablet was a roll of the dice for me, banking on the hope that Huawei would be attentive to software updates (for all markets) and custom ROMs could serve as back up/enjoyment. This tablet has solid hardware and with another launcher it is decent.
Sadly, my experiment to try out a non-Nexus device without the latest (or close to pure) Android version is coming to an end. The last M3 sold on Swappa went for around $300.

Too anyone in this thread, I want to install the latest version available in Firmware Finder.
When I select download, I get 3 file choices. Which should I pick to download then what are the steps to update? Please point me to the best post to reference as there are a few.

from what i gather. if you're going from MM to Nougat, you need to install the Full OTA. for that, there are 2 files, you will need both of them. from there, i'm not sure.

MT7-TL10 B121 International Firmware

Ne firmware from Huawei Ru
http://consumer.huawei.com/ru/suppo...x.htm?id=36521&pname=MT7-TL10&pcode=Jazz-TL10
Release date 26/01
Should be for international TL10
No chance log
Has someone tested?
Just did the update. It went well, no problem, I'm yet to find any difference from the previous ones.
Does the phone, with it's very large screen, still show LESS information than a smaller phone? C'mon, the software on this thing totally sucks. I have a giant screen with such ridiculous font spacing, meaning I get less information on my 6-inch screen than I can get on a 5-inch model such as a P6. What kind of sad joke is this?
Does the new software fix this problem? If not, I have a mint Mate 7 for sale, used only long enough to see Huawei has made no progress with their software.

I'm from the Philippines and I downloaded the B121 firmware from the link above and flashed it on my phone, I extracted and put the dload folder in my external SD card and did a local update via the updater under menu options, nothing was erased after except for root, so I rooted my phone again via CWM.
By the way, I also have the MT7-TL10 32gb/3gb version and did not get any updates from the updater, i was also in B120 SP04 before I flashed the B121.

I'm running Chinese version MT7-TL10 V100 R001 CHN C00 B122 SP06 and could not "downgrade" to this international version. I just get an "update failed". Any ideas how to go back a step so I can get the international version?

Why do you want to downgrade? I was having some thought on updating my firmware to that of the Chinese version.
You can flash the firmware manually through adb, you'll need to extract the firmware. There are other threads in here that discusses about that.
My Italian Mt7 TL10 failed b121 update
I tried locL update, from recovery and by Hisuite
All failed, didnt even start

I want to downgrade because the Chinese version has issues. I have owned many HW phones and running a Chinese load is always a PITA. I want a normal international load that does not perpetually harass me with Huawei store stuff, that does not provide its own broken Calendar and Mail app, and that lets me manage my SIM cards correctly since I need dual SIM support to work in a specific way.
Unfortunately, I read the instructions for installing an international load over top of a Chinese load. I don't want to root my device, have never rooted a device, don't know how, don't want to know how, etc. It seems I am stuck. Even if I changed my mind, the instructions are not newbie level, so I very much doubt I could follow instructions that are not step-by-step "press this", "type that", unless I devote a lot of research. I could buy a new phone for cheaper than the time I would invest in this.
Gimme instructions

I bought a russian version of the phone and after many times of ROM's flashing I ended up with chinise B122. Now I also want to migrate to European version and do not know how. It's not a problem for me to get a root and I also can try to dig dipper to figure out how to make the downgrade. Can you be so kind and provide me with a link for instructions you read, please, so I can try it myself. Thank you.
how to know wihch reason your phone is i have the mt7 lt10 gold 32gb/3gb

6.0 and emui 4 please

Well I just got my honor 5 and wanted to upgrade the software, emui says it's 3.1 and when I put the check for updates it says there are no available. Nether when I check my lollipop 5.1.1 to got to Marshmallow. No upgrade available.
My cellphone was one of the Prime Day 120 bucks, KIW-L24c56.
Is there something I should do? I know very few of cellphones, but at least my moto g2 asked me itself to upgrade to Marshmallow which I did, apparently this has Marshmallow upgrade also but nowhere to be found.
Than you.
Wait for it its not fully out yet.. it takes some time.

im checking the hihonor website and there is no 6.0 upgrade
Is it just me or no one else can see it ?

Well... so far no luck upgrading.
I'm new in this subforum (just got my KIW-L24 last night) and have no idea what the "-c56" on your model number is so hopefully I'm not wasting your time, but
I was able to update mine to marshmallow using this update package that was provided in this thread.
Just make a "dload" folder on your internal storage and extract the update file from the zip to it. Then in system update on the phone, hit menu and local update... should walk you through from there.
Hope this helps!
well apparently Huawei pulled out the update because there were some issues with the phones, they are gonna work on it and put the update on L24 with Marshmallow 6 and Emui 4 back when everything is resolved.

Did you hear this from Huawei? I'm thinking the same thing and posted this in another thread, but was wandering if it was officially a problem.
See below:
They have removed marshmallow from the site. It's not official, but I believe they are doing some work to it. It was extremely laggy and had poor battery life and performance compared to lollipop. I reverted back after running it.
You guys would be better off waiting to see what repairs are done to it.
When you click on the support site, look to the right under manuals

You will see how to rollback officially from Marshmallow, if there were no problems, I'm pretty sure that would NOT be listed the same day marshmallow was removed from the site

Yea, I wrote to them and they replied me that there were some issues regarding the update. One day there was the update and the other it wasnt, so I asked them and they said their engineers are looking into it and as soon as possible its gonna be back posted on the website.
amazing how these buggy updates make it through testing to get released, beyond belief & biggest drawback with current phones is crappy firmware & apps , programming, testing & design rules needs massive improvement ...
Android itself is big part of problem ...
Funny how CM has a better software compared yo such big brand Honor/Huawei

well I got 6.0.1 and new Emui in my cellphone OTA. Just this morning I got an update and after downloading and installing it was the new version.
Phone seems a bit laggy and not as fast as 5.0, is this normal for 6.0? Or just me?

Honor USA: EMUI 5.0 is officially rolling out starting on Feb 11th

Just for the purpose of tracking the rolling out process in the north America region, let's try collecting some date information when you receive the rollout. The process of this upgrade could become a helpful guideline for future upgrade events in the region! Models L04 and L14 might be involved. Let's also comment on your state, wireless service provider, if you are in the beta group and when you got the phone to see if anything is correlated. Now, on the official Honor_USA social account, https://twitter.com/Honor_USA, N is coming on Feb 11th. Period.
Update: from Rox_honor, it's officially released on Feb 10th in the US. Some people have had this update already.
To force the update, you can check the method posted on Page 2, #16: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=70992090&postcount=16.

So far it seems that only T-Mobile users are getting the update. Just tried to update my Mom's phone, we are on Cricket (AT&T) and there was no update for her. Tried putting it on airplane and restarting but still nothing. I'll probably try again tomorrow.

Nothing on L04 AT&T yet. Purchased from NewEgg and first activated in December.
Got it 3 weeks ago. L04 from b&h.
Bought it unlocked at Frys a week ago and received the update yesterday. I just want to caution all rooted and unlocked users! I received the update yesterday and upgraded it like a fool. I cant get into twrp recovery and the stock recovery seems to be broken. I even installed a newer twrp thru fastboot but im still not able to go into recovery. Im looking through all the forums but no one seems to have this problems yet. Im still waiting on some help if anyone has a solution. So please be aware before updating. Hopefully Im the only one with this problem.

Ahh, I was an idiot and had the same thing.
What happened is that I was rooted, and installed via Charles app, and it bugged out.
The reason for that is that TWRP can't install the stock ROM.
You need to get into fastboot, and reflash the stock recovery, and use it to dload the emui 4.1 file. Make sure you get the full package version.
After that it will be all wiped. You might run into a few errors but let the recovery do its thing.
You'll eventually be able to boot into the OS and then run the update normally.
I want to root my honor 8 on nougat, but I'm waiting for a patch from Huawei first because of all the bugs, just because of this.
Also I don't think rooting the honour 8 on nougat works that we'll yet, hopefully someone comes up with a method that doesn't suck so hard.
Hopefully they'll do it quickly.
Do you mind pointing me to the right direction to find those files? stock recovery and the 4.1.
Ive seen the rollback files... is that what you're talking about?

I used the firmware finder tool for it. You can get it for Windows. It's somewhere around the forum, but you can probably Google it.
Once you get the full package you can extract the recovery.img from it.
Unlocked FRD-L04 bought from Amazon. Living in Argentina. Got update yesterday. Really happy with it.
Folks, if you are impatient, you can use the Firmware Finder to send the Firmware B360 (I am using the Jan 3 one) to your Updater for a full package update. More information can be found at https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/how-to/news-huawei-firmware-finder-team-mt-t3550882
A few notes here from my personal experience:
1. Once you set up the proxy from the Finder's proxy app which should be downloaded after you enabled the "send firmware to updater" (check notification afterward), you then click on the latest firmware # and "send firmware to updater".
2. On the Setting/Updater, click the menu and use "Download full update package", which should direct you to a 2.27Gb package (not the 1.28Gb package, or you will not be able to login!) and click on the "Quick update" button. You may need to wait for a while to see this option. Up to now, you may not be able to download anything yet.
3. Go back to the wifi setting and turn on proxy setting to "None" again and reconnect with the wifi network. Now you should pause the Updater and then resume it. You should now be able to download the full package and install it.
4. After all the update process, it could be helpful to charge your phone without the screen turning on. This is told to be useful to optimize the battery performance immediately after the update. The phone might be slow in a couple of hours as optimizations are going on in the background. But everything will become normal afterward
Good luck!
bought L04 from newegg using it in Pakistan no update for me as of yet
This is all bulls*it. Same update we got in january, and by the way, it's buggy.
L04 here, bought from Amazon about a month ago. Running on T-Mobile US. Still no update yet.

But i have an issue with updates. My version is MHA-L09C316B150. Im checking for updates but the update system says i have the latest version.. I checked on this thread that the oreo update is out. Will i be able to update my phone to the MHA-L09 version listed here?
Also can someone explain what the C316 is? I see there is C33, C632 etc
Just to add, my device has the last security update from Jan 2017.. Wtf.. Why has no further updates been done..
Value after C in build number is region/localization.
List of known regions is here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-9/how-to/regions-mate-9-region-codes-t3555086
But I didn't find C316.
Where are you from? Is your phone selling in stores or you got it from mobile operator by contract?
You can see available stock ROMs for your phone in Firmware Finder. Enter model MHA-L09C316 in search.
I did it, but FF did not find anything about your region. There are two options: stock ROMs for C316 are existing, but FF does not know where are they. Or Huawei did not post them to HiCloud.
If I have had phone with rare region, I will rebrand it to more popular region. It is too hard process for newbie. You have to read about unlock bootloader, TWRP, patched recovery, different models and regions. But staying on region C316 you may not receive any update even. By my experience, Huawei updates popular regions and does not care operator's versions.
As alternative you can ask provider (if phone by contract), write to Huawei or wait for update.
@ 5[Strogino] Thanks for feedback
Im from South Africa and yes the phone is on contract. Network is Vodacom which is part of Vodafone.. I dont understand why this stupid network didnt issue the international region as most phones come with European software installed or even middle east areas. I agree with you, i will have to rebrand my device. I have done flashing on samsung and LG phones but this is my first Huawei.. will read up on some posts and attempt.
was trying to update with Huawei updater 2.0 and hisuite, no luck.. gives me no internet connection error.. tried editing hosts file too but no luck
Finally managed to to install Android 8 and rebrand my device to europe firmware.. testing now.

It's an official beta, but still a beta.
Oreo for Mate 9 should arrive in December or January for everyone.
Right now you can only install beta by applying in Huaweis beta app, or cheat and use Hwota as you did
It's a very stable beta.

Don't flash using hwota or rebrand. Use firmware finder and download the updated C316 android 8 firmware
Huawei finally updating phones from SA

Phone not updated since March security patch

My F5321 from Malaysia isn't receiving any of the new updates. Last one was 34.4.A.2.32.
Could anyone explain why?
You can check xpericheck.com if there's a newer version, but there's a good chance there isn't one. I'm stuck on 34.4.A.2.50 on the Central Europe version for example, the newest one is .85

Customised MY isn't even listed. :/
What now? Unlocking bootloader if you want latest security patches?
Is there another firmware variant that would be suitable for your location? There may be less difference between the variants than you might expect.

Can you just flash the firmware straight from xperifirm, or do you need an unlocked bootloader or sth?

According to xpericheck, singapore region firmware is also stuck in March. I guess both MY and SG are using the sme FW. I think you cn flsh other region FW without unlocking Bootloader.
Is there a way to flash security updates only, without upgrading to oreo?

Can anyone please confirm this? I'll unlock the bootloader if I have to, but it would be great if it is not needed.

I'm in USA, and I've flashed f'd from at least 10 different countries and never seen any affect on the phone operation.

If you want to retain the fingerprint sensor operation, don't flash to US. People here have in the past recommended either DE or UK, as they tend to be updated promptly. No unlocking of bootloader needed.
Okay guys. I'm ready to flash a new firmware, probably Customised UK. Is the guide on xperiablog up to date and accurate? Also, there is a flashtool by Androxyde on flashtool dot net, but there is also a flashtool on Sony Developer World. Which one should I use?
There is only one xperifirm so that's unambiguous, at least.
Edit: also, it doesn't affect user data or the OS in general, does it?
I can only speak from personal experience with the Androxyde flashtool. I've never tried (nor even known about) the Sony flash tool. In my experience, if you don't make any changes to the default settings, the existing user data is carried over into the newly installed firmware. I'm assuming here that you're flashing from one variant of Android 8.0 to another, not from Android 7 to 8, etc.
BTW, I would always advise backing up your data first, of course. If, for some reason, you are dissatisfied with the result, you can normally get a factory installation of your currently-installed firmware by using software restore from SONY (as part of Xperia Companion).
@pseudonym58 Thanks. Is the guide on Xperia blog the one to follow or is there a better one out there?
I don't recall which guide I used. It basically runs like this:
Run Xperiafirm from within flashtool; it will refresh available software. Choose particular phone model and download desired firmware. Back in flashtool proper, connect phone in flash mode. Select downloaded firmware, which is unpacked and prepared for flashing. As I mentioned above, you should not need to make any configuration changes to the default. Flashing can now begin (it might seem to pause temporarily from time to time but don't cancel process).
Don't worry about warnings of missing elements; I have never had a flashing procedure fail as a result of a claimed missing component.
This is just a general procedure; perhaps someone else can recommend the best full tutorial.
Ok so CE1 got the newest (.107) update right now so it can probably be used too.
