ENG Boot + Root

Here is the Eng Boot for the SM-G950U. I did not get this, @unitz0mbie posted it. I am just posting it here. I will write a tutorial to root with this after it is done. We should have root at some point.
G950U1 firmware is the US firmware. It has the CSC info of each carrier but does NOT have any of the bloat or boot logos. For T-Mobile it has WiFi Calling and VoLTE. Verizon texting works with data and WiFi calling. All those carrier features work. AND It changes depending on the SIM card in your phone. So you don't need to keep flashing firmwares.

How to flash G950U1:
1. Download G950U1 for your device and patched Odin.
2. Turn off phone
3. Hold down on Bixby button + power + volume down
4. open patched Odin
5. add the firmware to the AP, CSC, CP, and BL sections of Odin.
6. Plug your phone into your computer (NEEDS TO BE WINDOWS) with Odin open
7. Make sure your device is connected and recognized by Odin.
8. Click start.
9. Enjoy G950U1

How to change carrier:
1. Download Factory Binary, G950U, and the G950W firmware.
2. Turn off phone
3. Hold down on Bixby button + power + volume down
4. open Odin v3.12.7
5. add the Factory Binary to the AP section of Odin.
6. Plug your phone into your computer (NEEDS TO BE WINDOWS) with Odin open
7. Make sure your device is connected and recognized by Odin.
8. Click start.
9. One the phone reboots run the ADB command, adb reboot bootloader
10-12: Deleted because if redundence
13. Put the HOME_CSC of the G950W firmware into the CSC part of Odin (modded)
14. Click start
15. Open IME setting on Factory Binary
16. Type in *#243203855#
17. Select XAC
18. Click install
19. Wait for phone to reboot
20. Once it does open terminal and type in adb shell
21. Then type in echo "XXX" > /efs/imei/mps_code.dat
22. Type in exit into adb shell
23. Type in adb reboot bootloader
24. Flash the G950U firmware of your choosing without Userdata. Also make sure to flash the non-home CSC
25. Enjoy your new carrier!

USC US Cellular
ACG C Spire
TMK MetroPCS
VMU Virgin Mobile

we still need to get root for the S8. We have permissive SELinux status but still cant get a system mount. We have some people working on it currently. We are also waiting for another kernel from JUSMEJOSE.

Oh I understand that. I've been following that thread. But I know it will be posted here when it happens. I've been helping, but my knowledge in that area is still in the infancy, so I know someone will get it before I do

We have jusmejose files already and they're the same exact one's 3 ppl posted already which is same as what we already had essentially

Why? The eng boots that 3 or more ppl posted are the same ones we've had this whole time lol..
But to let you and everyone else know again none of them have root access at all.. all they have is permissive and that is it.. the s7 root bat does nothing, does not work

Let me get this straight. Root for Snapdragon in a couple days? I thought we were still waiting for stuff..?

we have engboot and we are waiting for people to get root on it.

Still no root? Thought all we needed was eng-boot. Guess Samsung patched to S7 method??

No we are not.. 5 ppl posted the same "ENG boots" and none of them have root lol..they are only permissive which is the same as what we already had so nothing has changed

We've always had ENG boots since the combination firmware.. the ones ppl just posted didnt bother to check it and turns out its the same exact ones... it is a newer build but only permissive

Carrier Switch Snapdragon

Here is the Eng Boot for the SM-G955U. I did not get this, @unitz0mbie posted it. I am just posting it here. This is instructions for how to switch carriers.
G955U1 firmware is the US firmware. It has the CSC info of each carrier but does NOT have any of the bloat or boot logos. For T-Mobile it has WiFi Calling and VoLTE. Verizon texting works with data and WiFi calling. All those carrier features work. AND It changes depending on the SIM card in your phone. So you don't need to keep flashing firmwares. I don't know for what device the G955U1 would come on. The US unlocked device has a model number of SM-G955UZKAXAA and a carrier SW version of XAA/XAA/XAA. I think this firmware is the one that they give reviewers. Gear VR doesn't work.

After you do this, you can flash the EngBoot then run the command to any carrier then just reflash the original system.

@mweinbach so I'm assuming since you mentioned root, this is the Engineering Boot we've been waiting for with write permission??

No. I need to rewrite that. I just copied this from my S8 thread.

Wait, I flashed the unlocked firmware last week. I have zero bloat so it definitely appears I'm running the firmware but my CSC shows as TMB (originally on T-Mobile firmware.) So let's say I purchased an unlocked US model and popped my T-Mobile SIM in it. Should the CSC say XAA or TMB? If XAA, I can use your guide to switch over to XAA right?

TMB because the way it works is that it enables carrier CSC settings without the bloat. Switching to the XAA does nothing. It will just switch back to TMB when you put in your sim card.

Don't quote me but G955U1 might work. You might still need to have it unlocked through your carrier.

A person on ebay did something and sim unlocked it with 00000000
I'm on xmobile and now it takes a Verizon sim which rejected it before the unlock

interesting... usually u needa go through the unlock app on tmo devices

Just flashed this on my unlocked T Mobile S8+, everything is working Wifi Calling and etc. I will have to wait until next week to try a Verizon SIM to see if that works.

Help Me Convert 950U to AT&T 950A Please

OK I see there are a few threads on this but would someone please point me to the correct post to convert the unlocked US S8 to the AT&T version so I can get VOLTE and wifi calling? TIA for your help!

I have the same phone.
But what is so special about volte?

1st only works with other AT&T users with VOLTE capable devices but the audio is very strangely clear. For me this is about my entire family, plus I want wifi calling

Umm I have 950U that I Preordered direct from Samsung as an AT&T phone. I don't think there is an S8 950A model. I have VoLTE and wifi calling.

All model numbers are 950U, but to get to the at&t specific firmware, follow directions here:

Yes my mistake, I'm stuck in the past where every AT&T version is the A. I found the AT&T firmware for the 950U on SamMobile (G950U1UEU1AQE3_G950U1OYM1AQE3_ATT.zip) and was thinking I would need the CSC from that firmware but it seems not, Anyway thanks for the link and I'll give it a shot.

That's not att firmware that's unlocked us firmware since it's compatible with all major us carriers. I have that software version on my Factory unlocked US model S8.

Wow that post is all over the place. Can any kind soul that has an US unlocked and set it up as an AT&T device can help set me strait please? I'm thinking I need to flash the Engboot (never did this in ODIN so I don't what block it is?) and then Launch IMEI factory dialer and put in code ( *#243203855#). Not sure how to do this either unless they mean the phone's dialer app. Thank you sooo much for your help!

Follow the directions in the link I posted step by step... That's what I did and it worked to change mine from a Cricket phone to an AT&T phone.

I'm using an S8 unlocked version on AT&T postpaid account and I would not use AT&T's Firmware it's all full of junk apps that are not Useful at all.The S8 without all that blot where is much snappier lt is fantastic everywhere I go I even get LTE+

so I need every step for an unlocked as would be a locked phone?

You could try flashing the userdata section from an att firmware, some have said that worked too.

OK so I need all these steps at the bottom, still doesn't click to me why I need Canadian CSC to get AT&T features but ok. Can I get help with the following steps, Thanks,

flash engboot w/mod ODIN
Boot phone, enable usb debugging
adb shell echo "ATT" > /efs/imei/mps_code.dat
flash full stock firmware (any carrier) in stock ODIN w/non-home CSC
upon reboot, you'll boot with att features

Thanks for the reply, I flashed Engboot with PrinceComsey ODIN and it erased my data and reboot me to setup (hope this is normal). I open ADB and type adb shell then echo "ATT" > /efs/imei/mps_code.dat but get the error permission denied. If I paste your whole line "adb shell echo "ATT" > /efs/imei/mps_code.dat" I get The system cannot find the path specified. USB degging is on. Thank you

Doesn't the unlocked version have different bands than the att version? It is my understanding that if you have att service that att branded version has wifi calling, volte, and virtual voicemail. Correct?

All S8 use the same hardware, the software/firmware dictates which bands/features are active.

Since you have unlocked phone, you may need to flash carrier firmware before getting access to /efs/IMEI
Although, the unlocked one may not have that file either. Not sure...

If you compare them side by side at Samsung.com, the unlocked version has less bands than the att version.

A question for bit a of clarification:
I understand that you flash full stock with the Non-Home CSC, but which Non-CSC, the one containing Cache, PIT, and OMR or the other with Cache, and UserData?

[How to] VoLTE on Jio India Carrier with USA snapdragon S8 or s8+

NEW Instructions: Dated July 10th 2018
Should work on all Snapdragon USA/Canada models (ATT , verizon, sprint, tmobile tc) Tested on S8+ and S8, should work on Note 8 if you have right files. S9 switched to a different CSC format, so it's not possible to use this method for S9 models.
Keep your Jio/Any other VoLTE enabled indian carrier SIM in the phone all along.
Check your Bootloader version first (Download matching files only)
(Identify your bootloader version > Go to Settings > About phone > Baseband version under software info should show something like G955USQU4CRE9 The fourth number from right is your bootloader version. If you try to flash any lower version (BL 3 to BL 2), ODIN will fail and phone will show Fused 3 binary 2 error. So, choose the file versions matching your bootloader. You can go higher but not lower. Means BL 2 can be flashed with BL 3 or 4 but not with 1 (most of the times).
1.Back up your data using Samsung smart switch or any other means (save whatsapp chats to google in settings)
2.Flash matching stock firmware (On unzipping stock FW, you'll get AP, CP,BL and CSC files. Use Odin to flash them) (Don't flash User data file if it's there in extracted files)

3. Download sec_omc.zip specific to your model
INS OMC Dec 2018 version for s8+ or For Note 8 or For S8
4. Download and unzip combination rom (You'll get a file ending in tar.md5) (Matching file only)
For s8+ models or Mirror, Another mirror with BL5 files
Another for BL5
For s8 Models or
another mirror for S8
Note 8 combination files or Mirror or BL 4 version BL5 version
If you want updated combination files of the same models, search on xda or shell.boxwares.com or firmware.gem-flash.com yourself before asking others.
5. Open Odin (princecomsy version) and click on AP, choose the file you extracted in step 4
6. Put your phone in download mode (hold the Power button, Volume Down button, and the Bixby button until Download mode screen is seen. Press Vol up to confirm).
7.Connect your phone to PC. You should see "Added" in log of Odin and see a com port appearing on top left.
8) Click on start tab. If everything goes well, you'll see "PASS" on top left. Let it boot to Factory binary once.
9) Boot your phone to recovery mode (hold the Power button, Volume up button, and the Bixby button until samsung screen is seen).
10) Install "minimal ADB fastboot" program on PC, Copy the sec_omc.zip to your minimal ADB folder on computer (under program files on C drive).
Double click cmd-here.exe in that folder.
11) Connect your phone to your computer with your USB cable and in phone select Apply update via ADB in recovery screen (Navigate with vol bottons and select with Power btn).
12) On ADB window on PC type "adb devices" without quotes. Next line should show a device attached
If seen, type "adb sideload sec_omc.zip" without qoutes. It'll start transferring the file.. check mobile screen it'll install itself. (you might see some errors)
13) Once your phone reboots, you will see an "IME" button on the bottom). Tap on it and type *#243203855#
14) On resulting window, if you see INS in the list, click over it and click install and select full customisation.
15 Your phone will reboot to the 'factory binary homescreen', go to ADB on your computer and type in "adb shell".
16) Type in echo "INS" > /efs/imei/mps_code.dat (Please make note of the space between " and > and /)
You won't get any confirmation.
17) Now flash the full Stock firmware matching your bootloader via ODIN (BL, AP, CP, CSC files (not home csc)
18) After the flashing, phone will reboot. Don't setup any accounts yet. Boot to recovery and select "apply update via ADB" (Like step 11)
19) Sideload the CSC zip (similar to step 12) and let it reboot.
20) On reboot, you should see INS/INS/xxx under software info (xxx is your factory csc version) and VoLTE icon should appear.
Possible glitches
1. Phone app force closing
Reflash AP BL CP only excluding CSC
Install OMC zip via adb
2. Messaging app FC
Install S9 sms app or google messaging
2. Sprint OMADM app needs to be removed to avoid annoying notification or change notifications to low priority
To remove via ADB, turn on usb debugging
type in adb shell
you should see a dollar sign.
next type in pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.sec.omadmspr
it should say success.

No rooting involved with new method.. so no battery issues.

Isn't there any multi csc rom available for snapdragon variants
So we could stick to stock nd get indian csc on it

Update: now Possible to stick to stock with INS CSC.
No. There are no custom roms for US models. Soon we might get modified stock versions but all will involve Rooting first then every rom will be flashed via Flashfire only.
So we have to give up Spay etc that depend on Knox.

Mine is 8+.
Make sure you have a jio sim inserted during the process.
Anyway.. try this zip with Only INS CSC in it (previous one had XAA-usa unlocked CSC also) and report.
If that does not work, try the attached zip (Worked with s7/note 5).
Let me know which one worked.

There's a chance once devs get a way of flashing custom builds of stock and then flash normal boot instead of engg boot after unrooting (like s7 edge).
They are still working on it. If they come up with a method... I'll try to provide an updated zip that supports such rom.(they'll be stock modified roms)

It might take a few seconds to acquire signal. if not, try toggling aeroplane mode off and on, then see.
VoLTE is working for me. (I have a sprint version of s8+)
If still fails, make sure you have Jio Sim in the phone while you are doing this procedure.

You need experience in doing such stuff buddy. Not worth it if some thing goes wrong. If you can't follow the steps, i would say leave it.

Need help unbricking my Galaxy S7 edge SM-G935P phone

I flashed the firmware from here https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-s7-edge/how-to/6-8-t-mobile-935u-firmware-qe2-t3619151 along with the Tmobile radio via Odin 3.13.1, it failed in Odin and now the phone is stuck on the samsung logo. I used the BL and the AP from the zip, the CP I used from the separate tmobile download link. For the CSC I first tried the CSC that is in the package and when that failed I tried the HOME CSC even that failed. the User data I kept blank both times.. Then I tried it a third time same as above except in the CSC I put the CSC file from the zip and in Userdata I put the Home CSC file, it failed again. Am i doing something wrong ?
Update: I have been trying to flash the stock firmware from samobile, but I am unable to do even that. It keeps failing. I downloaded the firmware from here https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/...S5BRA1/206887/, extracted it, added just the AP and as per instructions went in to download mode, clicked on start and it keeps failing. In Options only auto reboot and f reset is clicked.
I would really appreciate any help to unbrick this device, it is stuck on an exclamation mark saying " An error has occurred while updating the device software. Use the emergency recovery function in the smart switch PC software". Smartswitch is not recognizing this device saying it's an unsupported device so emergency restore software wont work from there. I can get it into download mode but as I said flashing the firmware via Odin is not working. I can also get it into recovery mode but it keeps endlessly trying to update, fail and loop back to trying to update.

Firstly I would check your use cable, I have a bunch and not all of them work. Secondly, make sure that your phone is being recognized on PC, hence the cable check. and third, make sure you are flashing the correct firmware. You said TMB, but I see you are flashing 3 different company files. Hi back to full G935P firmware , you front need to flash TMB on t, it should be fine cause I have a g935p with TMB sim in it

just use files from one rom at a time. get good at that first. maybe you are careful but it really looks like you were guessing what goes where at the end of your post.

What is your APN settings ? With the sprint firmware I could either get LTE data or calls and text not both at the same time.

Im actually on the G935U rom from jrkruse. If you are on the latest firmware just skip the flashing of the stock U firmware. Just flash eng boot, root it, and follow his process in his t-mobile thread for flashing in flashfire. When aroma starts it asks you what kernel to flash just choose tmobile and it works instantly. But fo APN settings whatbi had was this:

I managed to flash back the Sprint firmware. I feel the problem is Sprint is probably the only one with an upgraded baseband due to their last update. Both the TMO and U firmwares are based on the 4 baseband G930TUVS4BRA1 and the last Sprint update put it on a 5 baseband G935PVPS5BRA1. That is what is causing for it to fail, I feel. Do you think if I follow the eng.boot method I should be able to overcome the problem ?

Okay the problem you are having is that you are actually on bootloader 5 not baseband 5. So that number represents the bootloader and there is no way of downgrading as of yet. Samsung does this thing with fuses on the phone being blown as the bootloader upgrades, well as far as i know from the s8&s8+. So your problem you are having is that you are trying to flash a previous bootloader which isn't going to happen. Flashing the QK5 or the BRA1 firmware will work. Cause it's on bootloader 5. I'd you do what I said a couple posts ago you'll be fine I'm still running the U series tom with tmo kernel installed and I have actually had 0 issues so far. It's been completely solid and everything works, data, sms, Wi-Fi calling, etc...... it works after flashing and boot. With the Sprint tom I got headache after headache and the activating thing is annoying. Just do what I said and you'll see a that what jrkruse then did is probably going to be the only best thing the Sprint variant gets. Try it

Thanks for your reply. If it is not too much can you please break down the steps a bit more because I don't want to guess and mess it up again and also if you could please kindly point me to the other thread as well so I can download the appropriate stuff from there and read a bit more about it. I am right now unable to use the phone with the sprint firmware on it on TMo, it's super annoying.

Don't mind all the instructions there .
1. Download the flashfire zip file and place it in your phone.
2. Download the Ufirm_multi_carrier.zip and unzip it and place the AP or TaR on your phone(the file that's inside the zip)
3. Make sure to use the eng boot and the root provided in this thread and root your phone.(root is a pain but it's worth doing for this room.)
(Note, if you have flashfire stuck on enumerating partitions you can try rebooting or Google flashfire latest app or flashfire 0.73 app and download and install it)
4. In flashfire allow root permissions and select zip and choose flashfire flashable.zip and select mount system read/write,
5. In flashfire select firmware and select the AP or TaR that you downloaded and it should have all partitions checked. Leave it and press the check mark.
6. Make sure that SuperSU is not injected. MNow click on wipe and select dalvik/cache format cache .
7. The order should be firmware then zip then wipe in flashfire.
8. Click the flash tab at bottom in flashfire.
9. In aroma, select the wipe SuperSU image, I think it's selection 2, and the rest of it is entirely up to you for what carrier you are on and so forth.
There is no need to download the Ufirmware stock for Odin because it won't stick because if the new software you have on your phone. Please make sure you know what you are doing to apply these things. These instructions worked for me and if you choose to do otherwise that's on you. I claim no responsibility for bricked devices or what you create . Flashing is a risk that we all take and it's entirely up to you.

First up, thanks a lot for your help. After a lot of tries I managed to root the phone or so I thought and that's what the phone said after I ran the root.bat file on the computer and the phone rebooted. I downloaded the flashfire app but when I turned it on it says "root access could not be acquired, are you rooted ?".
After I ran the root.bat file and the phone rebooted the phone clearly said it was rooted. How do I go ahead now ?

Get the root from the thread in the link I provided .
In the file there should be something OS something flash the bat file in there it kills all Sprint stuff. Then do the root.batch file and don't worry when it removes all the SuperSU, flashfire, and so on, it's normal okay do on to the painful part......
In the command screen or terminal, it'll say to press a button when your phone has registered on the PC., this is probably where you are messing up. Watch your computer screen until the s7 pips up and watch your phone when it says Allow, MAKE SURE YOU TAP ALLOW! wait for your phone to click off on the PC and then click back on( it takes a while) then press whatever button you like and watch the terminal, if it has errors then it's not rooted if it is rooted then the terminal will close and your phone will reboot. Then proceed to flashfire and do it's thing. For good measure when your phone is booted open SuperSU app first and you'll know if your rooted. Let me know if you need more help

thats pretty interesting being on the binary 5 baseband and binary 4 rom. to clarify, you were on the binary 5 rom and reverted? or were you on the baseband 4 and upgraded just the baseband? thanks for the info.

I odined the AP_Nougat_S7_Edge_EngBoot.tar.md5 then ran the root.bat file from Nougat_S7_Root_2_82_All_Carriers_V2 , I chose the options to install the fingerprint fix and install the root without any gpu tweaks. I watched the whole process complete and the cmd prompt close, my phone never asked my permission to ALLOW anything, everything was on the computer. I ran the root.bat from cmd as an administrator and the program ran evidently because it asked me about the fingerprint fix and root with or without tweaks etc. I noticed the phone reboot and there was a notification, the phone was rooted but no SU and flashwire says no root access. I tried it back from square one a couple of tries more right back from flashing stock sprint firmware and trying the whole rooting process again, same results except the next two times the phone doesn't reboot after running the root.bat file. I notice now when the phone boots up there is a sign saying "CUSTOM" beneath the samsung logo on the screen. I don't know where I am going wrong in the process though. I don't know if it is because I am on the binary 5 however I also read somewhere that people have been successful in rooting their binary 5 sprint S7 edges. I have rooted many devices before and installed roms etc, this has been, by far, the most perplexing phone in every which way.

Fownt know what to say,but, you are saying that you are on binary 5 and have successfully downgraded bootloader's by flashing stock vzw firmware which is on binary 4? I don't think downgrading is possible yet?? The way I explained it to you is exactly how I did mine numerous times. I can no longer assist you though because, I kinda bricked my s7edge,
Here's something for everyone to note on a DONT DO!!!!
Do not flash the latest ENG_BOOT AND COMBO FIRMWARE.
I think it was the binary 5 QK1 eng boot and combo I forget, but after flashing back to stock firmware you will get a SBL ERROR in upload mode and let me tell you....... It is not fun at all. I had all the files necessary for unbricking, the complete restore files, I tried the z3x box, I tried octoplus, and I tried the uni-android tools and nothing flashes it over. It's insane. But I ended up sort of destroying the body of the phone but not the internal, so I now have a skeleton phone and no screen or mid frame.
So I wish you luck and probably a final goodbye to Samsung and their insaniy with phones.

Bummer about your phone. On a glad note I managed to root and flash my phone and everything works great now. I was taking the hard nerdy way to do it by running cmd as an administrator and having that run the root.bat file. I read somewhere else you could just double click the file and it worked for me . From there on the aroma part was pretty straightforward. I am grateful to you for pointing me in this direction and breaking it down for me, I seriously doubted me being able to achieve this on my binary 5 phone but it turned out to be smooth.
