Lost IMEI, EFS Folder, really messed up - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Hi guys, im in a very deep trouble since yesterday, i was testing trying to flash Renovate Rom on my S8 Plus SM-955F, unbranded exynos version, Ive test before almost 5 o 6 roms without any trouble, but suddenly I got a bootloop, so i decide to restore the backup I made before i was start to flashing any rom, along tow days ago. The backup apparently restores well, but it last only about 15 or 20 seconds, I rebooted and doesnt get pass from galaxy s8 logo at startup; so Ive restarted again , got to thw twrp and tried to flash again another rom, BatStock in this case, phones starts without a problema, but now network doesnt work, and Ive lost my IMEI , baseband, and i guess all EFS folder.
Apparently the backup on the sd is corrupt , and I tought when i tried to restore the backup, It get all erased and messed up.
Does anybody have some idea to solve the problem, Ive tried to restore the efs backup from the backup alone, apparently it restores, but i continue without imei.
Please someone help me, Im getting crazy aboyt that, ive buy the phone trough and Internet page, so I dont have warranty in my country Argentina.
Thanks in advance.

Any idea?
Please Help me folks

Try this way via Smart Switch

Hi, search in S7 edge forum, you have a guide to recover the IMEI. Are you using an external SD for nand backup?

If you are sure that your backup was properly created, you can omit the md5 check.
There's an option in the TWRP settings.

I think that was the beggining of the problem ,when i tried to restore without md5 check, twrp restores thebackup, but im sure its corrupt ,because it only takes 15 seconds, but phone get stuck at startup galaxy s8 screen.
Im getting this screen when restoring with twrp.

From the screenshot it looks like you are trying to restore the cache.
Can you try without it, and restore /efs ?

Restore the backup and then wipe the cache?

Always whenevr we restore, we should wipe cache/dalvik cache then reboot.
Or try smart switch after putting phone into download mode and it does it's job well.
Some files have gone corrupt but majority Looks fine. Wipe cache n reboot n let us know

Guys, do you know If it's possible to extract the efs partition or efs folder from the twrp backup, it's maybe posible?
And how I can check if the backup is allright or if it's damaged.?

Extract twrp backup via 7zip

Won't boot in what way? Can you get into fastboot and/or recovery? Since you're asking about CWM, I'm assuming you can get into it.
If you did a Nandroid backup (the main point of CWM for me), you could try just restoring it. If you didn't, I'd try a wipe all settings and then reboot. You should be able to get back to a virgin state on the main OS that way.
I can get into it, the problem is i erase all data on my phone. Thanks in advance!

I'm still confused what your problem is.
You say the phone won't boot, but then you talk about erased data.
What exactly did you do to the phone? What was the last few things you did before you "broke" it?
What happens when you try to boot the phone (ie., it's powered off and you press the power button)? How far in the boot process does it go?
If your problem is that the phone boots but all your data is gone, there's no way to get back unless it auto-syncs down from Google, or you used a backup program like Titanium, or you made a nandroid backup in CWM.
If you made a nandroid, you should just be able to boot into CWM, select backup and restore and then restore your backup.
This is what happened....
I tried to replace my fonts in system that are supposed to work on a different phone. Then when i tried to boot up the phone was stuck on the silver google logo. Now, after that i went into clock work recovery and formated everything in the mounts and storage menu. After reinstalling the phones boot img, my phone freezes at the google logo. I can still get into the clockworkmod recovery. I never backed it up, but tried to use a nandroid someone posted online but i get a md5 mismatch.
Again, thank you for all your help!

Known issue. There is a thread in the Development section(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884499). The OTA "broke root."
Ouch. Now I understand.
In the future, always make a nandroid backup before messing around with things, easiest way to recover.
I see you're looking for help in this thread. Maybe they can help you.
You could also try flashing Doc's or Paul's roms also in that section.

Did you wipe/factory reset before attempting to install? I realize that you're pretty much wiped at the moment, but always best to start with that.

You've tried another NAND backup, besides the one that MD5 mismatched, yar? Be careful not to rename it, as that can cause the mismatch.

The custom rom? No, you just go into recovery, wipe/factory reset, install from SD card, then navigate to where you put the .zip on the SD card.
I see you did try the 2.3.1 NAND backup in the development section. Try downloading it again on your PC, unzip it, then place the new folder on the clockworkmod's backup folder on your SD card. Again, do not rename it.

Be warned that if you do get the NAND to restore, you may lose clockwork recovery. I know I did when I first tried to use it.
Don't panic though, because you can fastboot flash clockwork back on from the bootloader.

Bootloop after cwm restore

Hey guys! I am a bit of a noob on installing roms. I have a rooted s4 then I installed cwm. I restored touchwiz first just in case then flashed cm11. I liked touchwiz better so I restored it and its always stuck in a bootloop. I dont really know what information to give you since I'm a noob at this. My phone isn't with me right now but I'll be getting it soon. Also I flashed cm11 again so its usable. I haven't seen any thread that has this problem with the same phone.

The right way, if you want touchwiz back, is this:
go to your recovery, select wipe data. Wipe it and after that restore your backup, than clean cache. This should work fine

Unable to save to Note 3 after restoring backup rooted rom

Hey Guys
On my SM-N900W8 Note 3, I've had it running a rooted stock rom.
Yesterday I decided to try out Gummy Rom....did a backup in TWRP.....I also backed up all my apps with Titanium just to be safe.. wiped data....installed Gummy Rom....it just wasn't for me.
Wiped data again......restored my stock rooted rom that I've been using this whole time........phone booted up without a problem...SUCCESS! At least I thought success....started to notice some errors with some of the apps I have...
Wasn't able to get any of my snapchats....swiftkey was giving me errors.....then I tired to save a picture and saw that it had failed....strange
I Have several gigs available on my internal and external SD card....
Opening up Titanium....I can see that all folders, internal AND external say "This folder is not writable."
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance
Update: I've installed SDFix, and I can now save to my external SD card.....however I still can't save to my internal memory.

Hi, I bricked my phone, I totally messed up... Now I can't make my computer or any computer to recognize it... It doesn´t turn on, in anyway... So, I have almost lost any hope to fix my UMI Zero... But while reading any possible way to bring it back, I found MTKDroid Tools....I'm not sure that it will work, but I think it's my last chance... But I indeed need a backup of any Umi Zero, 'cause of course, when you need it... Turns out that you had it on the internal memory... So PLEASE if anyone could help me with an MD5 file of your phones... I'd truly appreciate it...
Thanks in advance to anyone who's willing to help....

Thanks again!!!

I have exactly same issue, like timelord666. I'm unable to mount /system in TWRP. Did any of you guys come with some solution?
Had this problem on a VF-895N, i did factory reset and cache format a few times with reboots between them until it just went away!
But the best way to solve is to flash the stock rom back, has it will reinstall all partitions.
But I cannot do factory reset, because there is no system installed, somehow. And when I try to wipe it, I always get that partition error. I would like to install stock rom back, but how?
Here is a complete backup of TWRP 3.10.
https://mega.nz/#!uBRWzCxK!7y6qVYaESe1D2PnURLu70I4mkNuNLWwzMoVdwcr7-ec
Maybe my question is stupid, but what m I suppose to do with this zip file?
The zip belongs to the TWRP folder on the SD.
Path: TWRP / backups / umi_zero /
Card into the unit, then the Recovery and Restore. So you can restore your device.
Hi my question is more stupid... because I bricked the phone, How I TWRP? I went in the TWRP page but the device Vodafone VF-895N is not into the list....
Thank you....
Are you already aware of but that is about the Umi Zero here !?
Sorry but Umi3 write about my device and I supposed that Twrp image was for my device

Go to need rom and download the very first rom for umi zero.
The name is Y800.Flash it with sp flash tools. You don't have to have a rom installed first.
You will have your phone back working again.
Me too...
Hi everyone!!!
I I think also caused one softbrick on my smartphone. My Umi zero already been updated from the original firmware to version 3.09. Then I decided to try the other roms. I Installed Miui v6 Arcatarcs rom. It worked well with either common bug and everyone already knew he had. So I decided to try the EMUmizero (mouths later). To install the "EMU" used the RootJoy as Arcatarcs guides. I used it little and preferred to return to Miui but in version 7. I thought it best enjoy the RootJoy and downgrade by himself for the original rom (3:01) before.
After I downgraded Umi began shows various errors (I could not touch anything because it was opening pop ups of errors on the screen). Several pop ups appear followed ("com.android.phone stopped", "com.android.systemui stopped", "com.android.acore stopped"). Restarted the Umi, I entered the recovery of rootjoy, and tried to do a full wipe. But I think there also appeared a few mistakes. And currently it does not come out of the boot screen / logo-Umizero.
I tried to make a stock rom installation via FlashTool but the software does not even begin the installation. Sometimes back up to even enter the recovery image of rootjoy.
It also does not recognize the memory card "sdcard". Was recognized try to do the install the rom there.
Can anyone help me?!? Can I install the twrp on Umi for other software?? like odin or something??
thnks a lot
solved
yesterday sp flash tool dont work... today... bingo... full format and new install of the stock original rom umi zero...

The only partitions you should back up are Boot, Cache, System, Data and EFS. In my experience, trying to restore backed up System Image, Recovery and Firmware doesn't work.
Try restoring only Boot, Cache, System, Data and EFS and see if the restore completes.

Its just storing your imei adress ant stuff. Why restore it, if you cant even delete it? Do full wipe, efs is still there. And like every other memory type, with each re-write its wearing, and it can eventually **** up(ofcourse very little chance) and leave you with only media device(no sim service). So i dont really see a point in restoring efs. Just having a backup is fine
