S8 S8+ Marshmallow + xposed - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

I'm not a developer but would love to be able to install a 6.0.1 rom onto my S8. Maybe a custom rom could be made, or is there a way of downgrading the firmware?
Maybe I'm being backwards but I love Xposed so much I have given my S8+ to my partner until I can get Xposed working on it. Don't know how much longer I can cope with the s7e
Many thanks in advance

That's not possible. Well it might be possible but it's gonna take a lot. Samsung maybe released Nougat sources for the s8.Your best bet is to hope xposed comes to Nougat. I am also a S8 user and wishing I got xposed with all my favourite mods working.

Would it not be possible to take an s7 marshmallow build, and drop it into an s8 rom, basically replacing everything except the camera (there is a port of this already) and the kernel.
EDIT: we'd want to dl a tool to change the dpi(plenty on the play store).

Maybe if you could get aosp on the s8 and build android 6 for it, but it'll be a while before aosp is available, by then xposed will be available anyway.

What modules are you using that makes Xposed that important to you?

amplify and a couple of others.

Marshmallow and lollipop were both horrible! No matter what modules were used. I don't miss using xposed one bit the newer android is taking care of a lot of the problems that xposed was needed for on those versions of android

AT&T S6 & S6 Edge Update Released

not installed but downloaded
My phone downloaded it but encounter error installing and didn't actually perform the install. My s6 is rooted though. Anyone rooted get same issue? I'm personally waiting for a cynagen mod, so I could care less for samsungs updates

Yes, and that is to be expected, since root trips the custom flag.
I hope I'm wrong, but I suspect you'll be waiting a looong time for CM on the S6, given the exynos processor and locked Bootloader (on our ATT version).

I can wait. With removing a lot of bloat and junk crap my phone is much faster. I notice free ram is a lot more. Faster boots without having to auto start all the junk. I'm good for now.
Just the post I was looking for. Downloading the 235.96 MB update right now.
Lol CM? They cant even perfect or at least provide decent ROM for their 1+1 and Yureka phone what more on the latest hardware. By the way I own the 1+1 and its buggy even the official releases. Im not saying Sammy software isnt buggy its jusT CM is worst.

Is someone porting the MIUI rom?

Is anyone in the process of porting the MIUI rom? In that case, I would like to contribute so that we'll get it faster
We won't get it.

Why?
Exynos variants can only get TW roms due to the source not being open. Snapdragon variants could but they have locked bootloader so not possible at the moment.

People should be reverse engineering exynos as a time will come where samsung will only use exynos in the future. I'm actually amazed they haven't fully switched to tizen for phones but I'm sure that will also happen
Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
I have the Exynos version. Can someone please explain in detail, why I can't get it? I don't really understand, as I can see people making new roms for the s7. And, is there anyway to port/take the things and make a miui rom?
Making TouchWiz roms is just modding them.
Full custom roms like miui and cm need a source to work from to make drivers etc. No such source has been released from Samsung for the exynos. This is why there has always been cm on snapdragon as the source code is released for that as Sammy doesn't own snapdragon chips.
Hope this is clear. It's not hardout detail but it's the jist of it.

I had used a HTC One M7 three years back or so and fell absolutely in love with changing roms etc to suit my needs. Went back to my iPhone after that and have now shifted back to S7 Edge. I was unaware of all this source code etc and thought the modding scene would be the same. But here I am, stuck with a stupid TW od Sammy. Such a beautiful device and I cant unlock all its power. I feel like I am still using iOS as I cant modify my phone.
Planning on selling my S7E for something more open like a OP3.
I'd love this! Miui is far more pleasurable to use than the TW rom currently installed.. It makes me sad that the S7 is so locked up. Rip aosp && sammy <\3
hence why im selling the s7 and getting the alcatel idol 4s..cant beat the price and its gorgeous design
Even if it is fully unlocked.. MIUI patchrom only supports kitkat, S7 edge comes preloaded with Marshmallow so we have no drivers for kitkat.
Until they release MIUI 8 patchrom with MM base we can't do a lot. And even when they will do that, editing smali files + fixing bugs will take "some" time too.
Note 4 has MIUI patchrom cause it's first android was 4.4 which gave them kitkat bootloader.

Dual Booting on T350

I believe no one has asked this. Is dual Booting possible on this tablet with the DUAL patcher app? I know of it works on the s3 s6 and note 5, but is there a method to dual boot? Thanks, even if no one sees fhis?

Ok, there might be a way to do it, but I don't think it's possible for SM-T350 yet because of the new Marshmallow update. It will take a while for that to happen and plus there is no other custom OS for this device yet. (Only an unofficial version of EVERVOLV)
I have this device and you got to either choose Touchwiz or EVERVOLV.

I was planning on dual booting EVERVOLV that's why I asked but if it's not possible, yet, I guess I could try and see if there's a way. I forgot to mention I am on Lollipop, I didn't know there was marshmallow for the tablet since I left it on the desk for 3+ months.

I have tried the Evervolve build and if installed patiently, it actually runs pretty nice. I really think that a custom kernel is needed though. I really hope that someone ports CM13 over to this device.. I really think that this tablet would run great on CM.

Downgrading to Marshmallow

Hey I just got a T Mobile V20. Is it possible to downgrade to Marsh from Nougat? Reason is I'm looking to have Xposed.
Any responses are greatly appreciated

thanks!

You can't cause Marshmallow never existed for this phone. Since switching my G5 I feel the same way. Hate not having xposed but in reality xposed is going to be dead or done at some point. With a few tweaks here and there you miss less of xposed.
Nova Launcher has a few good settings in the absence of Xposed

You might be able to if you can make ROMs. Good luck talking a dev into doing it. They tend to look forward, not back.

[QUESTION][ROOT] Cydia like apk/place for Android.

I know this isn't iOS, but i was wondering if Android had something similar to Cydia on iOS. A place where i can find/download new/old(working) tweaks. Updated ones a well.
Any tips appreciated!
Xposed would be the closest thing.
But with that being said, most of the stuff that you would need Cydia for on the iphone can be done natively on android.

Ahh true. Since android is more "OPEN", then iOS's pain in the ass locked file system. But exposed, i see that on the XDA app. Is that the same thing? Or do i need to download it elsewhere?

Youll need an unlocked bootloader and root.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/xposed-android-nougat-sdk-25-arm64-t3639221
I wouldn't recommend doing this if you're unsure about what you're doing. A stable Xposed is going to be released soon enough according to the devs.

I recently switched from iOS to Android too, and was looking for the same thing. Xposed is very similar for Phantom and YouTube++ alternatives...
I have it installed on my SM-950U and it works just fine. Look up the new version of Xposed for Android Nougat (7.0 or 7.1) (it should be on XDA) by PurifyOS. The official download links for the frameworks are down, but if you go to page 241 or something someone has them reupped. Flash the framework .zip through FlashFire on your phone after rooting, and then install the .apk in the post.
And... voila! You're done! You should have Xposed working on your version of Nougat (7.0 or 7.1)
Hope this helps

When flashing in flashwire , do I select mount read/write?
Edit: nvm I got it. But when I try to install xposed thru the installer, it fails system update and goes to recovery

Yeah, you should mount as r/w. What s8 model do you have?

stock Android without unlocked bootloader and root is almost as bad as ios !!

Regular s8. But the xda app has a exposed section with tweaks. I guess that'll work correct?
