http://asus.in/liveunplugged/ it's Zenfone Max
Yet another iteration of the ZF2. ASUS are crazy. How many are there now? The original three ZE (500, 550 and various configurations of 551), the various deluxe edition configurations of the ZE551, the ATT 2e, the Laser and the Selfie (numerous sizes and configurations thereof), the Max (now two versions), the Go, the Go with TV tuner, the Zoom... I've probably missed some, it's hard to keep up. What a circus.
Enough with the 2's let's see the 3!
Bugger that, lets see Marshmallow or N on the 550 and 551...
It's a refreshed zenfone max that was powered on for 7days to show off standby. ASUS is ****ing weird

Upgrade to note 7

So whose upgrading to note 7 from note 5? I feel note 5 is a great phone.... I might hang onto my note 5 for a while..

Pre-ordered from Samsung UK this morning. The Note 5 will go to my wife.
Ordered from cpw a week ago. Lets hope the battery is better than the note 5 - which is my biggest / only gripe.
The only disappointment is... the missing of action note... satisfied with others.

Isn't there a way of getting this back?
Note 7 ordered too - Black Onyx
The Note 5 is still worth it. Might upgrade next year whn the price has fallen off. The Iris Scanner isnt a game changer for me

Don't see any point in upgrading right this moment. Note 5 still serving me well and still a beast if a phone. Prefer the flat version over the curve edges and all.

Note 5 do anything i want for me in 2 or more years later... upgrade to note 7 is just a waste of money right now... i install note 7 Port rom and have almost all future of the note 7 except iris and AOD...

Which rom did you install? Any bugs in daily use?

It's also worth remembering that's it the note 7 is anything like the s7 family (which it is) there won't be a legitimate roots so no more custom roms unless you hold on to the note 5 which I will.
Well to be honest.. this is the first time (since note 3, I think I kept note 2 the longest) I am not rushed to change my phone. Last yr when note 5 came out I cudnt wait to update my note 4.
But this yr.. m like "meh" maybe in January.. cuz note 5 has held up better than any other notes. And I've used all from note 2 onwards. Haven't even rooted or used custom roms. M happy with simple tw themes and nova launcher. Though if a stable note 7 ported rom for note 5 comes out I might give that a try

I really don't want a curved screen phone. It's so hard to get a good screen protector and videos look weird. I will keep my note 5 and my s7 till they die.

100%. I am with you and have same words. Note 7 is a good phone but there is no wow factor in it. Hence there is no need to rush. Right now if I sell my note 5, i will have to add somewhat $500 to get a new packed note 7. No way ever I am gonna do that. Samsung has priced it really higher this time.

I agree it's too expensive with mostly software added features. We know Samsung will never upgrade note 5 but it can easily be rooted and custom roms wud give u similar experience
But apart from that.. note 5 has kept up well. I don't remember last time it hanged or lagged. Probably it did but I don't remember cuz it doesn't happen often enough. So yeah I will wait till dec/Jan or later.. wait for it to be a lil cheaper and then upgrade.

Why?
What is wrong with the Note 7?
I always wait a couple months to read/hear about the issues. I'm still gonna get one though just for the micro SD card ability back.
I brought the dual sim model from dubai, and whilst i am keeping it, i actually prefer the Note 5. the curved screen is ok upto a point but there is very little performance benefits to be had, the screen itself in normal use is undistinguishable from the 5, the camera is a little better.
Chainfire also put out yesterday that the SU app is causing kernel panics when root priviledge is required and its baked in so he is having difficulty although not unsolvable and i saw @dr.ketan bricked his although that may be unrelated.
I am keeping my Note 5 for until they release a Curved Privacy Glass Protector for it.

I Just got an iphone 8 plus ?

20 minutes later my SIM is back again in my S8. Heading to the store to return the 8 plus. Would never make this mistake again.

Everyone is talking about the bionic a11 chip and really whats the point of having a speedy chip with slow animation and scrolling, .IOS 11 is really bad. when u use it u really appreciate android much more. Having the IOS slow stock animation in the 8 plus actually makes the S8 look/feel much faster. Apps open faster cause of this. Keeping my s8 maybe until S9
cool story bro
i did this mistake 3 times with iphones
i will not do it anymore
seriously: tried 3 times and 3 times completely disliked no customization of iphone at all
cannot even have "message delivered" confirmation on SMS
I am issues iphone5 For work. Cannot stand it.

I have a new Note 8 (Just sold the S8+) but bought an Apple Watch series 3 GPS only. I have an old iPhone 6+ to be able to setup the watch. I going to use this watch standalone.
I will not put my SIM back in the iPh6+ just to use the watch.
It was the Galaxy S7 Edge that drew me away from iPhone. I have both iPhone and Samsung phones over the years but remember how much I can't stand iOS and iphones now after using them for watch setup.
UGH! The Note 8 for me is now the best phone ever. My S8+ was fantastic too but I missed the stylus and features that went with it.

Which phone would you buy after a Mate 8?

Hi
About 2 years ago I bought my mate 8 on a business trip in Guangzhou/China. I loved the phone, I did not rebrand it, because I liked it to get faster updates and could live with most of the chinese textes. In two weeks I travel again to china and it's time for a new phone. Not because my mate 8 is not good enough anymore, I still love it, but my son want's a phone and I planed to give him mine and I buy a new one for my self as a christmas gift.
Unfortuantely it's hard to decide which phone should be my next daily driver. The following phones are on my list:
- Mate 10 or Mate 10 pro
- Mi Mix 2
- Oneplus 5t
Each of this phones have advantages and disadvantages. I like MIUI, therefore the Mi Mix 2 would be a good choice, but the camera is not so good. I like the stability of the Mate series, but EMUI is not really my favorit, but the camera seams to be very good. The Oneplus 5t has a nice UI as well and also the camera seams not to bad.
Which phone would you choose?

Battery, battery, battery! screen size/resolution, update history, build quality, CPU/RAM, XDA support, price point.. probably in that order.
I'd never go backwards in terms of battery life. Everything else would then be considered.

mate 10 pro is best in battery, screen size and preinstalled software (oreo). however, it lacks a headphone jack and sd card slot and the 6" screen is actually smaller than the mate 8 due to different ratio (18:9 vs. 16:9). also, if the mate 8 is any indication, huaweis update policy is a bit lackluster...
mi mix 2 is king when it comes to small bezels, however screen size and battery capacity are not acceptable. no idea about miui, from what ive seen its quite similar to emui though. just hope that xiaomi is a bit better than huawei when it comes to android support of their phones.
OP5T would ne king in terms of pricing and xda dev support. however, since the OP left his mate 8 stock, this will probably not be a valued point in this regard...
out of the above, i would probably go for either mate 10 pro or OP5T. however, ive been eyeing the mi max 2 because of its humongous screen size and battery lets see what 2018 will bring to the table, ill keep my mate 8 until then...

LG V30!!
I bought the Mate 9 about 3 months ago. The 8, replaced my 2....
I'll probably get the 10, about this time next year. (I sell them after I buy a new one).
I was thinking about Xiaomi Mi Mix 1 not 2
SD 821 is still a beast , 6.4 inches in a 6 inch body is appealing , humongous battery , and I don't really care much about the camera , the only thing that worries me about the Mi Mix is the phone speaker which is impeded in the screen itself and has mixed reviews about it , some good some bad
Sorry for the bad English ...
i did it, made the plunge and got myself the mi max 2. not regretting it! already used to the huge phone size, the 6.44 inch screen is absolutely lovely and the battery life...insane. seriously.
i got lineage os 14.1 installed based on android 7.1.2 and my first battery charge is heading towards 24h sot (yep, you read correctly, thats twenty-four!!!! hours of screen on time ) currently, im at 42% battery and already have 14h8min sot tucked under my belt... so thats around 24.4h sot for 100% charge

Booooooo we will miss you around here.
I was also going to upgrade my phone this fall but mostly because I dropped my Mate 8 in water last spring. Battery and screen took some damage but after replacing the battery it has been running like a charm.
I actually went so far as to having the Mate 10 in the hand before my gf stole it from me so now I will wait for next year's flagships. Very curious about OnePlus 6 hopefully with fingerprintscanner under the screen and Treble. Also the new line from Sony, who is finally getting a new design looks very interesting, the leaked renders with front facing speaker looked exactly what I am looking for.

yep, its definitely about time that sony trimmed their HUGE bezels around the screen
btw, also keep an eye out for the xiaomi mi max 3, it will follow the new 18:9 display ratio trend, but sporting thin bezels, 7 inch (!!!) screen diagonal and a whopping 5500 mAh battery. could very well be the perfect successor phone for us mate 8 lovers plus, itll also sport upgrade performance with potential SD 630/660

Replacement for N4

It it time to switch to a newer model so I was thinking of getting Xiaomi Mi A1 but I'm not so sure about the size. I was thinking about a Xiaomi Redmi 4x as well. What do you guys think?
Nexus 4 can only replace another Nexus 4.

How is the device still usable to this day? The Nexus 5 only provides 2 hours SoT, I can't imagine the 4 does any better
Well the Nexus 4 still is usable if you get a new battery. I only want to change it because I will travel a lot and I need a better camera. I did order the Redmi 4x and will install Google pixel camera with HDR+.

I (used to) get 2.5 hours SOT on any day until I retired it after 5 years (in Nov 2017). I shifted to Pixel 2 XL and the size is huge compared to mako and I'm still getting used to it

Would it be worth it to buy it and replace the battery with a genuine new battery? I've looked into replacements for the Nexus 5 and a replacement would be the same age and just show the same wear

Are there batteries available that are genuine? From what I heard, SoT was 3-4 with the original battery and stock but 6-7 with custom kernels and ROMs
