For those who want ROMs uploaded to Google Drive (and for others too) - Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Guides, News, & Discussion

So basically I've got cheap internet and it provides very low download speeds but the good thing is that my ISP is Google peered, which allows me to access Google services at high speeds, so to download the ROMs faster i was looking for a way to download them directly to my google drive first and then to my device through Google drive, and after a lot of search, i finally found a way
So here it is
1 download puffin browser from the play store
2 open the page where the download is located
3 when you press the link for download you'll be given an option to save to Google drive
4 sign in to Google account, give access to puffin
5 wait for half a minute for the transfer to complete
6 download from Google drive enjoying high bandwidth
Its amazing i jumped from 150 kbyte to 1.4-1.6 megabyte per second
Press the thanks button if this helped you

Store Google Maps locally

Hey guys,
wondering if there is a way to store the map data locally?
This way I dont need to always use the wireless connection to get maps on the run, and im sure it would speed up the application too.
Of course i dont expect to store the whole world, just my city. Is there a method to do this?

Click to collapse
I made myself a simple workaround - just make screenshots!
gpsVP
This is what the open source project gpsVP is all about.
http://code.google.com/p/gpsvp/
Code is free, and there is ateam working on enhancements.
I have had it running on the X1 for past week. Works great.
I have tried both Google and MS map caching. Not Openstreet yet.
In addition I created my own raster map using Mapcruncher to calibrate coords.
It take s a bit of getting used to, as user documentation is catching up.
You can seed the cache while connected to PC/Landline. Starting at the most zoomed-in level you want, the app will automatically download the higher levels maps.
Hi,
Nowadays I'm testing this one:
http://terracrosser.com/
This program has two parts:
- Mapper.exe
You have to copy it to the PC and it allow to select an area at gooblemaps or yahoomaps and tke zoom levels.
It dowloads the images with the size you have selected and at the end compress them in 1 file (that you have to copy to the PDA
- Terracrosser itself: for the PDA.
This is not a navigation program. It show in the photo or map image where you are.
The speed is not very fast, development is in progress. Also depends in how many maps have you download and the resolution of them.
Nice program and very, very nice downloader. Very simple.
I use NoniGPSPlot (http://aeguerre.free.fr/Public/PocketPC/NoniGPSPlot/EN/index.php) it's free (I donated though for the extra features & because it's awsome) and there's a free map downloading app that lets you cache maps from google, yahoo, live and openmap, builds the image (or slices to help with memory usage) at whatever zoom level you want. You just then load them into NoniGPSPlot and you've got the ultimate GPS tool, with no data connection required.
I mostly use it to log walks for Geotagging my photographs. I can download maps with footpaths on so I can plan in advance a route, the dog gets a good walk, I get some good shots and can geotag them later in lightroom, and we never get lost!

Filehosting

To begin with, I am not entirely sure that our mods will allow this kind of post....
As the title goes, this thread will be about filehosting(FREE OF COURSE),because I cannot help but notice that many of us will host files/images on a site that have so much of limitation if not paid...
And for those who actually benefit from paid filehosting, it is okay, you can go ahead with your method, but for those who with the intention of purely just want to help others, I think it is best if we share this so that hopefully we will experienced less dissapoinments in the future....
As for myself, I have all images that been displayed here been hosted on skydrive, I set a whole new account only for this purpose. The good thing about this is that all of the pictures I have displayed on this site will stay for as long as I live I guess...if not forever...because I also notice for those who have their images stored in Imageshack for an example, it will get expire after certain amount of time.
Besides, I also share all my mp3 files on this account with those I know and yet still I have a plenty of free space because skydrive is so kind and let me have 25gb of storage for free.....but you will have to set the files/folder for public view of course.
But the thing with skydrive is that there are file size limitations of 50mb per file...but you still can host a a small customization there if you want..
And recently, when google launches google drive, and when I tried to upload a file with size of 700mb, it has been uploaded without a hitch,(take note that I have never finishes uploading this file, but I assume it is okay because google never prompt me with anyhting).... it means if I am right, we could even host a custom cooked rom with google drive for free and without time limitations...and with a god speed download rate....heheh
So, I hope this would help others regarding file/image hosting and really wish that I could ease a burden on those who are trying to help others.
However, being a human we often make mistakes if not always, and please correct me I am somehow wrong about what I said earlier.
Thank you all for your opinion and have a nice day.
Skydrive takes 200MB and 500MB via desktop sync...
I use Minus.com for my images, they offer 11Gb, unlimited bandwith and direct links.
I think the upload speed for Skydrive is very slow, uploading a ROM to Mediafire takes less than half of the time.
I have quite a bunch of accounts made for file hosting servers. A few to be named(I'm not sure how much data can you upload at once though ) :
Google Drive 5GB free(Android app available)
Minus 10GB free(Android app available)
Box 5GB free(I have got 50GB, and didn't pay a cent. Just search Xda forums and you'll find different ways to get 50GB)(Android app available)
Wupload 750GB free! Found this from Xda. Unfortunately you can't share files, it's just for personal use...

AdMob Filters

Hi,
We recently released our first multi-player game, Word Cloud Social, day before yesterday. Its available on Google Play Store (can't provide direct external links yet so check it out by copy pasting it- play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aurictouch.play.wordcloud.social);
During testing we had AdMob test ads running. We have set all filters except Games in categories to off. Yet, we keep getting non-game ads. Mobogenie is a sneaky deceptive crap that Google continues to allow. I have the following settings:
1) Do not use keyword-targeted ads and Google certified ad networks (GCANs) to improve fill rates.
2) All categories except Games is disabled.
3) Searching for Mobogenie or other sneaky ads turns up 0 results.
Anyone else had trouble with Google filters? How id you manage to fix them or work around them ?

[Q] Google Play Books Issues

Hi Guys
Not entirly sure where this goes.
I love using Google play books as its the best close platform reader I can find.
The issue I have is that on my Note 3 when I select to download a book the size of the download is extremely large.
For example I tried to download a book which was 3mb and the total data for the appp shot up to 388mb. When I had download a slection of around 15 books the data was 7.2gb before I noticed. The downloads of boxes tend to fail alot its almost as if it fails then starts again without deleting the partial download previous.
I also noticed an issue today where the app downloaded over a gb for what I can see to be no reason, its also as it was downloading anytime it found wireless ran through the battery in around ten hours.
Has anyone came across this before and managed to get it resolved ?
Its a shame there is so many problems with it given how good a service it can be.
Cheers Guys

No more lag

hey all. i have nexus 7 wi-fi and on all of roms, just there is big lag. i found solution
make tablet to stock rom 5.1.1 and delete backup accounts. delete any accounts whatever you have
then do factory data reset, i mean erase everything.
after 5 minutes finish. at startup do no accept google programs, plus do not write google account ! just skip it
i mean do not sign in your account. that means your google aplications will not be updated from play store
so there is solution. on also youtube app you just don't need logg in, you can back and use youtube app normally without logg in
also there will be no lag on google chrome. you can download apk games from computer + usb cable
there was lag because of play store, i mean use waste programs of google and update them. that was lagging
but i don't know, if you write many apk games in tabltet, there will be lag or not, i don't know this, but without games i works 100% free
