not use default app - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

So when I came to the s8, I came from lollipop straight to 7.0. I use autoremote a lot to open things on my computer from my phone and vice versa. I noticed in 7.0, at least on the s8, that clicking a link in Google requires you to select an app to use as default from then on out, whereas on 5.1 it always asked if I didn't select the use by default option...
I haven't looked to heavily because I have a lot going on today, but is there any way to turn off use of default browser app on the S8? Because I'd rather click a link and have it ask me if I want to use the browser or autoremote

Don't think so, you'd have to clear defaults every time.

Thanks for this mate! I didn't realize they finally added this feature back. Thank god, it was sorely missed on my S6E and S7E. I had to use apps like "Better Open With" as a workaround previously.

I searched for it for about 5 minutes last night. It is disappointing that it isn't where it normally is in the Samsung stock browser. I was unable to find it also. I'm not too bummed about it since it is my wife's device, and I doubt she will open multiple tabs often.

I'm loving the phone so far but there's been a few things that just make me think they were to worried about packing in all the "new innovative" software tricks that they forgot some basic things. Ex no open as background tab, no macro in camera and no autocorrection on the keyboard

Long press on any link and a pop up should open that asks if you want to open, open in new tab, open in background tab. The S4 is missing the last option. Also if you go in to the settings on your S3 there's another option to open all tabs as background tabs which is also missing from the S4

Go to settings advanced it should be the 2nd or 3rd option that says open tabs in background. The default jelly bean browser has it as well as chrome and a plethora of other 3rd party browser. Why Samsung would leave it out baffles me. I also looked on my girlfriends S3 and its where I described it to be.
As for auto correct it doesn't work, it will suggest the correction but does not actually fix it if you hit space it just leaves what you typed. To correct it you have to hit the actual word suggestion it gives you.

You must have an ota or something then because everyone complains the keyboard doesn't auto correct and the S3 must have a newer firmware. What software version is your S4? Mines JDQ39.I337MVLUAMDJ

Im gonna need proof before I believe you...or you could tell us how you got it working...because your the first person to report working auto correct....take a video if you can
I have searched high and low....and there is not a single place in the keyboard settings for auto correct...just predicrive text and even that doesnt have auto input.
Suprisingly its easier to do the built in "swype"/handwriting feature on the samsung keyboard (not the actual swype input)...now that thing is pretty good at getting the correct word

Smart screen

So if anybody else like me is coming from the G2 and 3 you might be missing smart screen.. That little feature that detects your face while looking at the screen to keep the screen awake instead of fading out. I personally felt it a real convenience. I would like to get it back, I pulled the app from my G3 titled wise screen. I installed it like a normal app with success. I used activity launcher to try and launch it, but it fc's. So I'm guessing we'll need root to get it functional. When we do get root is there anyone else interested in joining me on this quest? I would really like to get this one up and running. I can't for the life of me understand why they left it off. I feel like I'm back on ics or jb with out it..
Try kinScreen from the playstore

I have to agree with you. I am so surprised they took it out. I spent 30 min on the phone trying to find it. I tried the app the other post recommended, not as good, it will never turn the phone off in the car when the phone is mounted and the car is moving.
I, too, was looking for the smartscreen settings. Was surprised that LG decided to remove it. Will try the above mentioned kinscreen later
Anyone know if Samsung removed it from the S6? They started the feature and it was one of the more useful features they added to Touchwiz. I was glad when LG copied it. Most of the other stuff was junk, but that was actually useful.
That sucks. I wonder if they removed smart screen to keep the screen from running down the battery.

What's really weird is that the Smart Screen app is installed on the phone. Go to app manager, and check out the "All" list and there's Smart Screen. There's just no way to activate it.

Here it is on the Verizon variant. Wow... this is the first time the Verizon version actually has something the others don't!
It's on the phone but doesn't seem to work. I don't see any place to enable it and creating an activity to open the app causes it to crash.
Never really worked for me on G2/3.
I miss this and have found an app on the play store that mimics it. It worked well for me on the G3.
Verizon has this. I disabled it though. It worked great on my G2 for the time I tested it. For me, I am typically using my phone while in the middle of doing something else. So it is a waste.

Not on mine H810. I am wondering if maybe they built something into the package? As since I have had mine, and if I'm using it or just looking at it the screen doesn't shut off.

On Verizon, you can see the service - it is not an app - BUT there are no Settings I can find or know of that actually allow you to activate it or interact with it in anyway. So it is "there" but seems to do nothing and cannot be setup.
EDIT: I used the hidden Verizon menu and found this "smart screen" but when you click on it, it forecloses and crashes. So, it is as if that first part of the services is there BUT the actual functionality is not as using the hidden Verizon menu I cannot activate it and access settings or turn it on to work - and I would think from that hidden menu, we should.

Question about Smart View

Hi,
I just got a T-mobile S7 edge and love the phone. I was playing with the DLNA option called Smart View. Picked it from the the Gallery and it opened a new window for me to select where to stream the picture. Came up with 4 of my devices in the house. I picked one. Unfortunately, not the right one. However, I cant seem to find a way to change that setting. Everytime I go to a picture and click on Smart View, it auto selects the earlier selection of device. Any ideas where I can change this setting for Smart view?
Thanks

When you open smart view again, it isn't showing the rest of your available devices? It should scan again and you should see the other devices connected.

It does for 1/2 a millisecond and then autoselects the one I picked earlier. I even tried going through apps to see if I can remove data on something so this default will vanish but so far, can't seem to find the right app for this.

You might want to remove your default device from the network for a moment and see if it allows you to choose another then reconnect the first device.

Can We Enable System UI Tuner

Ive googled the hell out of LG G6 System UI Tuner, and searched all of the LG Specific forums on XDA, and came up with nothing.
Ive read that its possible to enable it on EMUI Devices, but havent found a way to enable it on the LG G6. Is this something we will have to wait until root/bootloader unlock is fully achieved, or something we can enable with ADB commands?
The main reason Id want access to the Tuner, is to disable these damned Peek/Heads Up notifications.
If the G6 is anything like the V20, LG has just removed the content of the activity altogether, which means short of recreating it in Smali, it's not going to work.
If you want, you can give my replica a shot: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-systemui-tuner-t3588675
You can edit what apps can show notifications by going to Settings>Apps and then edit each apps permissions and notifications
Sure can, but what a ballache
Is it possible through Nova launcher activities? I can access it on my htc m9 through that. I don't have a g6 yet, but looking to acquire one soon....

Works like a charm, I think. I get my notifications, without a stupid annoying ass popup!!
Cant actually change the notification level of individual apps though. But everything is on the level I wanted, I think its 2, where it allows all alerts, but doesnt allow peek or full screen notification, which is what I HATE!

If you reboot, the notification level control should work. You need to tap the "A" icon to turn it off auto mode.

Not OP, but I just tried your app, and it worked exactly as expected after granting the permissions via ADB. Finally got the clutter (BT, NFC, Alarm) hidden from my status bar. The only thing I noticed was that after reboot, the Bluetooth toggle reset to on, but the icon was still hidden (reseting blacklist restored it). I didn't try playing with the other options.

I should be uploading a build within the next hour that'll fix your problem. The method I was using was ignoring the first item in the blacklist string (ie the first switch you used).
I really can't understand why companies like LG find it necessary to remove these things...I mean, it's not like it's a feature that can confuse some people (which is the only good reason I've heard for this type of thing) cuz this is pretty hidden to begin with.

I can't figure it out either. I decompiled the V20 System UI and saw that they'd basically just removed all the code from the Tuner activity, like a second thought.
Nvm i got it to work. Just cant get rid of that battery icon it seems,. darn it
The app helped me as well, though I couldn't get it to hide the WiFi Calling indicator. Also, I'd love for a way to get a battery icon with the numbers inside the battery...wtf my first ever android phone from 2011 had that as an option, the heck LG?

I see. You can have it turned on through accessibility > vision > voice assistant (on). The implementation is really horrible though.
Did you try playstore to see if there are apps that can do what you're looking for?
