Developer Ghost Town??? - Sprint LG G6 Questions & Answers

Is it just my perception or are there no developers and very few users for the Sprint G6. The entire Sprint G6 forum looks like a ghost town.
I sure hope that user adoption picks up and we get some developers. If you are active here post a reply!

I too am concerned about this. I always loved the Samsung Galaxy phones but they are making them more difficult to ROOT. I'm going with the LG G6 (Sprint) because I am hopeful that there will be ROOT access for this phone soon.

I purchased the LG G6 nearly a month ago and so far I love it. The design is perfect and the display is beautiful. I also get great battery life. I can leave my GPS on all day, have LG Health running to track steps, Avast!, Lookout, radio, and still have battery life at the end of the day. The current Android version allows a great deal of flexibility to stop apps from running in the background or prevent notifications. I still want root access. It is the best phone I've owned to date.

hahaha. Helloooooooooooooooooooooo. Lg g6 ghost town version (sprint)

Right, great phone and nothing. At this point I don't even care about ROMs. Just basic root.

Good News for people in the USA....

I just wanted to let everyone know in the USA that Sprint is releasing the new HTC Evo which is basically an HTC HD2 with a few upgrades and runs Android instead of Windows Mobile. I personally have the Telstra HD2 running on AT&T and love it and I would have got the T-Mobile version except that the T-Mobile coverage is horrible where I live and in many other parts of the country it is extremely poor as well. The Telstra HD2 also doesnt support some 3G bands that AT&T uses, I was lucky enough to live in an area which it does.
I am only mentioning this because its another option for people here in the USA to get a device like the HD2 with a few upgrades and running Android if thats something you want. I am thinking about switching because I am a tech Junky. I swear I am never satisfied!!!
I think everyone is aware of this
I doubt everyone because I just found out a few days ago and I tend to keep myself fairly up to date on stuff like this.

Maybe you need better sources that don't display 2-3months old news. BTW, there's a big thread on the EVO 4G a couple pages back
Lol, I just came to this topic just to see if anyone would slam you, I was right.
It happens though it is reasonable enough to note that you are probably right, there are people that would still not know about it. Thank you for notifying us!
The second poster is right.
Everyone knows.
You lucky bastards.. i live in europe.. and we will never get the EVO4
I just love the fact that people come in here just to bash me... I expected people to bash me but its not like I care; I personally have better things to do than lurk around looking for people to pick on for no reason. I just wanted to point it out for anyone that didn't already know. I am sure there will be a few people who were happy to be informed about it.

Don't bother, EVO4 has nothing much in general than HD2 ! Even Sprint doesn't have that 4G network yet
maybe work will start on porting winmo to evo

Pretty much this. I have a sprint overdrive (3g/4g) from work and use it when im going off-site and being that I'm in SoCal (pretty big market), I'll be lucky if it even locks on to 4G. It's a good marketing tool, but to ask people to pay an extra $10/mo for 4G when the coverage is minuscule at best..is a bit outlandish. But hey, in a year or so, 4G has to compete with HSPA+ and LTE, so don't lose sleep over data speed if you're one of those people.

Yeah, I'm sure most people on this forum are well aware of the EVO. Most people on xda keep pretty up to date. I don't know how the OP just found out... even my brother, who has no real interest in phones or gadgets, knows about it. Plus this is the HD2 section... there's no reason to post about this in the HD2 section. There is already an EVO section on xda, I believe.
people.. tone down.. keep it clean and friendly.. the man was sharing some info.. let it be.. no harm no foul..

g2 root--impossible?

i don't even have a g2 and in no way intend to disrespect any of the hard working devs. but, how many people are pissed off that there is no root yet? not pissed at the devs, but at the measures htc has taken to lock us out. maybe it really is a bug in the chip. what if it never gets rooted? how many people would be extremely mad and sell their g2? like i stated, i don't even own one,but have been into the scene for quite a few years. so i read the g2 thinktank everyday. part of me is always hoping i'll see that it was permanently rooted. but it just doesn't look good. i check everyday because i'll eventually be upgrading my phone soon. and i'd like to rest assured that if these measures are taken on future phones, that the devs will know how to hack it sooner.
anyone think it's never gonna happen? i hope it does. i'm just not used to seeing this being such a huge problem.
It will happen. Give it time. The world was not built in a day.
The phone is still very good even though it isn't rooted yet, and will become a better phone when it is.
I'm pretty much like you, I check the root thread multiple times a day. I really respect those guys.

People said this same thing about the cat and mouse games on the iPhones, Droid X, etc... See how long those lasted? A few weeks? A few months?
History has shown, given the time and determination, there is no consumer cell phone that cannot be hacked.
I hate that they lock us out of our devices, but they are appliances. This happens in the business world all the time. They do it to 'improve' the device by not allowing you to muff it up.
Either way, we will crack the protection mechanisms, or find overflow exploits, etc... to make it happen.
give it time. anything and everything can be cracked with enough time. plus temp root via visionary works great. We truly only need prem root for custom roms and themes

AFAIK, to date, the Droid X's recovery chip that prevents custom roms has yet to be defeated. Poor example there, I think.
True. The Droid X still can not load custom roms. I'm thinking we're probably going to be the same way. But there's no fun without Cyanogens mods. Ughhhh

Honestly, 80% of what CyanogenMod brings (aside from bugfixes and optimizations) can be accomplished with full root access to the system.
I think at least some of the Devs see this as a direct challenge to their authority. This is the G2 after all. Root will happen. Droid X comparison is apples and oranges, this is the sequel to the first android device ever! This is where we make our stand or all is lost.
Having stated the above I think HTC, G, and maybe even T-mo are watching this device. Maybe its just to slow down the Devs long enough to push 3.0 . G may try with 3.0 to stop Android fragmentation by offering a huge leap forward. I mean the G1 to G2 jump is mind blowing to me and it seems like a gift to us early adoptors of Android, I want root but the G2 is stunning to me even stock. Just thinking outloud.

People are seriously tripping here. If Android can be ported to the HD2 of all devices, then the G2 can get rooted. Even if it doesn't big deal, it may just be me, but this is the first time I've been satisfied with a phones performance on the stock rom. Its faster and more consistent than any phone I've owned.

This is the truth. I sat and thought hard about what really made me put CM6 on my G1 .. i came to the conclusion that my g1 just wasnt up to par with all of the newer androids. but now i am completely happy with my G2 even on stock. therefore i dont mind waiting for root or if it even happens.
I'm nervous.

CyanogenMod is here kinda

Well the good news is that they have CyanogenMod booting on a G3. Bad news is that it's only on the US T-Mobile variant. There's still a ton of work to be done but it's enough to get a little bit excited about.

Saturday, IFA in Berlin, i go to LG and make a little revolt.:good:

I tried the alpha build. fast as ****. smoother than butter. MELTED BUTTER. actually considering to use it tomorrow even without sound or good cell signal.
Great news. Many people I know (including me) are waiting for AOSP goodness on their G3.
It's a mater of time and hopefully someone can hack the boot loader

Dude. so fast. when this is optimized easily the fastest phone I've ever used BY FAR. right now it's miles faster than stock or any rom for g3 currently available. it actually makes you go wow. which this phone has yet to do for me. to say I am very excited is an understatement.
Honestly, my HTC One M8 was much smoother out of the box compared to my G3. Idk but I sure do hope that development for the G3 picks up soon.

I know this is about CyanogenMod on the G3, but for those of you that don't know, we had a guy put up an updated thread detailing his conversations with LG regarding the bootloader. They told him that they have no plans to unlock it, so we will have to wait and see if someone can unlock it themselves, probably voiding their warranty.
Hope LG will unlock the bootloader, we need roms man, the phone is lagging so much that i go back to my nexus 4. I cant wait to put cm on g3.
Bad news that it's for T-Mobile? Sounds like good news to me. Thanks for the info, I hardly ever use G+.

Just wanted to say thanks

Well, I'm off to greener unlocked pastures, I just ordered my Nexus 6 yesterday afternoon and will get it in on Monday. With that said, I wanted to thank everyone here for listening to my rants, and hope I contributed in some way to the conversation. The G4 is a great phone, but it's potential is simply wasted by organizations that love to stifle innovation. God forbid if dev's actually come up with a better ROM with better features than the OEM provides, maybe they don't want to be embarrassed. I hope those who are sticking with their G4 get it unlocked and rooted soon, and squeeze every bit the G4 is capable of out of it. Good luck everyone!

Nah, has nothing to do with patience and everything to do with the OEM's and Carriers. I'm tired of locked down phones that they wont allow us to use as we please. Most of us know the consequence of a botched unlock/root so that point is a wash. It's about the control, and monetization, even after full purchase. If I buy a phone outright from T-Mobile, I should be able to do anything with the phone I want, to include throwing on a ROM, most of which are superior to the bloated crap put out by the OEM and carrier. While I love the camera on the G4, and no doubt the G4's overall experience is superior, I refuse to play their game anymore.

I came from the nexus 6. Great phone, already felt dated to me knowing 2 new variants around the corner.
Not being able to see whats on the screen in sunlight and issues with glass screen protectors had me looking.
Hopefully the huawei nexus 6 2015 will be affordable, more modern, legible in sunlight and have a better camera.

Although I think putting up a post about how you're bailing on the G4 is silly, (much like people who put up posts about how much they hate a forum and are leaving, what are we supposed to beg you to stay? ), I get where you're coming from with taking a stand against carrier oppression. I also will write a company off quick if I feel they have wronged me or have business practices I don't like. Precisely why I refuse to shop at Wal-Mart.
Good luck with your new phone dude. I can't fault you for having principles.

It was part rant/rage against the machine thing and a thanks to a really great community. I have nothing but respect for everyone here and I know everyone will get root-unlock-roms, thanks to talented dev's but I'm just so tired of the crap.
I thought a long time about this and simply made a personal choice not to support OEM's who lock down their phones, nothing more, nothing less. Yeah it sounds like a hissy fit but whatever, I dont live vicariously through xda so I'm not

I agree with you, I don't like how they lock down phones and try to control what you should do with it. Companies shouldn't release a phone if they want to control how you use it. Not the mention the huge amount of bugs this phone has. Makes LG seem quite pathetic.
I do like LG's other products though lol, their washing machines, microwaves, and fridges are pretty good!

Wait for root, unlock whatever, THEN get the phone. Why is that so hard to figure out for some people.
Wait for NEXT nexus model, then get it.
Obviously you have a problem with waiting.

When will Nougat 7.1.1. come to V20?

Ok V20 came with 7.0, but then when 7.1.1. will arrive OTA? Thanks.
No idea, but we may not even get it.
Think of what happened with Lollipop 5.1.1... a lot of phones skipped it, and jumped directly to 6.
I think I remember this happening with LG too in the past, with the G4 precisely.

Assuming the next version of Android is 8.0
It could very well be 7.4,5,6 etc.

We have 7.1.1 available for us if you are rooted. AOSP provides the latest 7.1.1 but we lose the second screen.
That's the only reason I stay on 7.0 stock ROMs right now.

Not possible on all variants. Very sad state of affairs.

Very true. ATT turned out to be a bastard to root.

This is one of the first phones I've owned that I cannot root, and it kills me! I knew what I was getting into, but I hoped... It was foolish of me. Thing is, I've either become too fussy with what I want from a phone, spec-wise, or the market is saturated with devices that manufacturers WANT us to buy / THINK they know what we want. Depends on your point of view I guess.

I get you. However, I have no reason to root because the phone is perfect to me. It's fast, it doesn't have some ****ty ass skin on it and honestly I just don't see the need to root at this point. I won't buy a Samsung because they suck and are a bad representation of Android.

There's a couple small things that annoy me about the V20, but I think it's variant specific to my model (H990DS). I agree with you on the Samsung comments!

I don't understand... I have the H910 and I don't have any issues (outside of the obvious that everyone suffers from) with rooting. I have full root and utilize Dual Boot Patcher with no problems.

i finally rooted my t-mobile v20 and took a bit. (not as easy as my Nexus 6p)... but twice already idk how it got stuck in twrp bootloop. I had to completely go back to stock. but cant' complain about stock rom. It's pretty smooth still.
PS: I always thought T-mobile and At&t variants were pretty easy to root. didn't realized at&t is near impossible..
Sprint used to be really easy to root. However since around the S6 the process has been a pain.
