Lumia 950 XL Dual sim Glance screen too dim - Microsoft Lumia 950/950 XL

Hi,
After the latest insider preview my glance screen goes too dark. I can't even see it on my screen.
Decided to go back and restore the phone to its factory configuration but the problem persist. Did a full firmware reinstall but the result is the same.
My ambient sensor works fine because the screen automatically brighten itself when it is sunny . Any ideas ?

Did you try to go settings System Display? Disable the automatic function and set the Display light to what you need. It might be tricky with dark display, maybe use a flash light on the sensor. I think I needed to do this my own, since then the auto function is disabled.

[Q] Nexus 7 Not booting (Flashes google screen (2-3sec) and then black screen)

Hi,
So my missus dropped her tablet (again) and this time she managed to smash the digitzer. So I went to replace it along with a new screen...
6 months later I get around to changing the parts. I reassemble and try to fire it up.
The Google logo flashes up and stay for about 2-3 sec and the disappears. Then nothing happens.
I tried plugging it in for 10 hrs and retried. No luck.
I can boot into the boot loader and the buttons work.
When I "power off" the device, suprise, it shuts down, on power up the logo flashes again and nothing.
Next I try "start" logo flash and nothing
When I tried Recovery the same again, then after about 60 sec it flashed the funny colored Nexus logo (very quick flash) then nothing again
When I select "Reboot Bootloader" it restarts the boot loader.
I'v been crawling the internet for hours now and have only found repeated attempts of loading the bootloader and trying recovery mode.
I did connect the tablet to the pc for a minute and could see a file structure but haven't been able to do that again.
Can someone please help.
Thanks
Matt
I'm beginning to think that the memory with the os has been lost, I might try unlocking the boatloader and refreshing the oem Rom. Any thoughts?

So I unlocked the bootloader and flashed the newest stock rom to the tablet and still wont boot.
Same as before, Google flashes up and then black screen.
So, I figured it out. It was working the whole time, only the backlight went off after the Google logo disappeared. Its not the brightness sensor as its reading correctly in GPS status. It seams to be a software issue.
I've set the brightness to a fixed level and it is working OK, when I set it back to auto adjust it turns the backlight off again, when I shine a torch on the sensor I goes bright again.

I am having the same problem as you have described above. After changing the digitizer/ lcd, the tablet boots up and google logo shows up for few seconds and the screen goes blank. It goes into recovery fine. How did you fix it?
Turns out it's the lux sensor. Turn it on wait for the Google logo to disappear and grab a bright torch and hold it over the lux sensor it's right beside the camera the screen should go bright once it gets to the lock screen. If not use the torch to see what's on the display and once you've unlocked the tablet set the brightness to constantly on full instead of automatic brightness and this will override the lux sensor.

Thank you so much. I followed your suggestions and now Nexus 7 is back up and running.
But I am afraid of rebooting it because I wasn't able to replicate your instructions once I had to reboot for system update. I had to flash factory image through fastboot and had to redo the initial setup and then the screen turned on welcome screen. So, it is hit and miss. Sometimes screen does turn on after few minutes of booting and sometimes it takes several hours for the screen to turn on.
I have my screen brightness setup to full. Will this override the lux sensor permanently or only until the next reboot? What is your experience with the tablet since you discovered this solution? Again, thank you so much for your help. I almost gave up on it and was ready to trash it.
Setting it to full with auto off should kick in after boot. When mine boots up it doesn't show the swirling dots but once it's done loading it pops up with the lock screen. I read somewhere that YouTube overrides the brightness setting and defaults back to using the lux sensor. I downloaded and paid for lux auto brightness that can override all app brightness settings permanently and it worked a charm for me. Maybe give to lite version a go and see how you get on.

strange brightness intensity

Hello all,
Sometimes when I am on web page or simply surfing facebook and my Note 3 dimms after 15 seconds as set, when I touch the screen, brightness will go lower as it has been set..Than I wait untill it dimms again, touch the screen and it goes to set level.. It happens either when on autobrightness (i am not moving phones position) or when all features controlling screen brightness are off (screen mode auto adapt, automatic tone adjustment, auto brightness, power saving options etc..) No third party app controlling brightness is installed.
Anyone can help?
It didnt disappear after hard reset..
Basically, once again - when screen dimms, sometimes after I touch it, it doesnt go back to the brightness I set manually, but stays dimmer..
Then, after 15 seconds (interval I have set for dimming) it goes slighty dimmer, than I touch the screen, and it goes back to the brightness it should be
Thanks
Maybe your Device ist to hot?
the Software dimm the Display to prevent for overheating.

I thought also that, but hard reset, no other extra apps installed, and It happens when I am browsing the I-net or chatting on Facebook for example..
It doesnt feel hot at all.. I have plastic case on it, thats all..
Hi, it feels like it has something to do with auto adjust screen tone.
For me it looks like, that even if its switched off, it is working when the screen dimms and i navigate to settings and click on it, screen goes back to brightness where it was immediately...strange..
Maybe some stock app is always using it? Hmmm
Do you have the problem from beginning or after long time surfing?
Try it in cold condition.
My Note reduces the brightness if it's really warm on top of backside, not really hot!
If you charging it at the same time, the overheating comes faster.
Surfing the web is a intensiv work for the CPU

Auto brightness not working correctly

When I'm in a light room the screen goes brighter but if I walk into a darker room, the screen doesn't dim unless I lock and then unlock the screen.
Anyone else having similar issues?
Yep got the same here. Thought I had a faulty ambient light sensor but obviously not.
Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
Just tried it by covering the light sensor to make sure, no problem here (G935F). My only concern related to brightness is that the s7 just has auto brightness, but no adaptive brightness.
Uncheck the auto box and recheck. Then don't touch the slider. It's usually because in marshmallow the slider moves with the auto bright and most people touch it which makes it hold position.

There seems to be a bug somewhere still. I just tried to move the slider while auto brightness is ticked and to cover the light sensor afterwards again and it still worked and to my surprise it even took into account that I lowered the brightness and took also a lower brightness at the covered state and took my initial setting after uncovering, pretty nice, so there is indeed still adaptive brightness. After ticking und unticking auto it went back taking the default steps for brightness as before.
Having the same issue here
Definately not touched the slider.
Also, I have tested the light sensor and it appears to work fine so definately a software issue. Though I imagine we will see some software updates to fix bugs shortly after the official release date.
So you can adjust the slider with the box checked and get various levels of auto? Does it learn?

Yes.
I can't tell for sure, when I change further steps the previous seems to stick, at least to some extend so there is a logic behind it, but I can't tell for sure if it really is based on each step and sets it accordingly or if it's just changes the range it operates in. Anyways I'm a happy camper.
Also, I could reproduce the device not changing the brightness, when I put it to full at darkness it won't move anymore in auto. But as soon as I lower it again it will also change accordingly again, maybe at those with the stuck brightness the min brightness is only raised, but not lowered anymore, but just an assumption and doesn't help anyone atm unfortunately.

This is the first Galaxy phone I had, that Auto brightness actually works the way I like it.
It seems to be working fine now. It just takes a few seconds for the screen to dim (maybe I was being impatient).
After testing it further it's actually really good auto brightness.
It works, just takes some time to adjust to the lighting. Maybe the default settings are set to a certain time. Maybe with root we can adjust this..

It seems to only do it quickly when the device is lay down (as 954wrecker said). Maybe Samsung did that so it doesn't annoy you when using your phone.
this is definitely a bug imo... the auto brightness doesn't change for me either...

I also have an auto briteness issue, when I disable AutoBrite and set it manually about half my apps override the setting and enable AutoBriteness in the app's screen usually dimming the screen? SpadesFree one example and I do not see an override in the app.
Confimed that I'm having same issue, auto brightness not adjusting and slider not movingoing. Have to move it manually
Same issue. It needs to be fixed manually by editing services.jar (root needed)
Nothing else will work. None of google play apps will help with that issue. Does not matter what you do, it will always dimming if you don't fix it in framework.jar

Aggressive Auto Brightness Issue

My Oneplus 5 (128GB) seems to adjust the Auto Brightness to aggressively. It Sets the bat to Zero in dim lit rooms.
Anyone Else experiencing this issue??
Yup, seems to randomly set it to zero for me, probably a bug.
Same here. needs optimization
It's bugged for me too.
OK, thanks for the answers, Guys. Than it will be patched soon I think.
Edit:
When you enter *#808# in Phone App you can Test the light Sensor. It seems to Return the value 0 or 1 in dimly lit rooms. And when i Turn on roomlight it is 38-45. Strange

For me is the same.
The hw is ok because with Lux autobrightness work well
Bye
Maybe it will be fixed in the next update.
Not good for me either. Wish they had kept it how stock android works. I prefer being able to set a "bias" of dim, middle, or bright screen that adapts to any condition.
This is happening to me too. Need to toggle the auto brightness off and then on again to make it work. Pretty annoying.
Frustrating issue. Brightness suddenly jumps to too low in dark environments.
Always when I unlock my op5 outside the screen is black and it needs to adjust the brightness again for me to even see something. I hope they fix this too.
Same here...hope this will be fixed soon as it is annoying af.

Yep, same here, new update 4.5.5 broke this again! Ridiculous.
you guys sure you got auto brightness activate ?
Has anyone tried screen_auto_brightness_adj setting in AutoTools custom setting? I think this might be able to fix the problem but I have not tried yet.

Yep! It is blinking when the screen is on. (I'm on February Patch.)
I'm on February patch and not facing this behaviour. Maybe you have an app making phone work like this? Hope you solve it.

No, I don't have any application which does this. Check it by a camera ( I think it is infrared) and when the screen is ON.

I think it's a bug in new February Patch Stable Update
First of all, I can't reproduce it (used my work iPhone's camera, and yes iPhone sucks but it's for my job, no choice here ).
Second, are you sure it's a bug? Did you do similar check before Feb update?
I'm not a pro of phone hardware, but it seems normal to me that the sensor will be always working. I'm even using an app to wake the phone with the sensor (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jarsilio.android.waveup) so the sensor is working all the time, even with screen off.
It's not a bug, it's the same for a lot of phones, don't worry

thanks bro, I'm not sure it's a bug, however the sensor should only be activated for calls
It's not a bug. The proximity sensor is also used for auto brightness control.
When the proximity sensor is tripped, values from the light sensor is ignored, which means that screen brightness won't change even when the light sensor detects changes in ambient light.
This is useful for e.g. when you play a game or watching a movie in landscape and your hand covers the light sensor. The screen won't go dark, but stays at the same brightness. Without the proximity sensor activated, your screen would go dark every time you accidentally cover the light sensor with your hand.
Try turning off adaptive brightness and see if it's still on. It shouldn't be necessary to have the proximity sensor on all the time if you set the screen to a fixed brightness.
