[HARDWARE] UART Cable time - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Guides, News, & Discussion

I've been reverse engineering the bootloader for the G955F in an attempt to find some sort of exploit to let us root our devices and not trip the KNOX flag. It now seems like the next step is to get in to the bootloader UART.
I've looked at guides such as: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901376 where they make a microUSB version of this cable and have attempted to replicate this with the USB-C connector by shorting the CC pins to ground with various resistances but have had no joy.
Looking at the kernel source, I can see this:
Code:
"-MHL:1K",
"-VZW Accessory:28.7K",
"-VZW Incompatible:34K",
"+RDU TA:40.2K",
"+HMT:49.9K",
"-Audiodock:64.9K",
"-USB LANHUB:80.07K",
"-Charging Cable:102K",
"+Game Pad:121K",
"+TYPE1 Charger:200K",
"+Jig USB Off:255K",
"+Jig USB On:301K",
"+Deskdock:365K",
"+TYPE2 Charger:442K",
"+Jig UART Off:523K",
"+Jig UART On:619K",
"+TA:eek:PEN",
"+USB:eek:PEN",
"+CDP:eek:PEN",
"+Undefined Charging:XXX";
Which definitely indicates that the known resistor values should work, but so far, I can not get any serial output at all. Is my assumption that USB-C cables actually have CC wires, rather than an internal resistor in the connector head correct?
UPDATE: I have attached the pinout for the UART cable.

Getting it would be amazing.

I believe This will take time

@Vatsal can you please move this to the right place?
As this forum place here is not how-to/guides/questions.
Thanks very much as always :good:

Thread moved Sir.
Next time, kindly use the report button.

This post, posts of my own, and others I've seen SCREAM that we need a Dev Discussion section like XDA used to have (least majority of the phones I had 3-4 years ago plus had them.) Would be dev discussion only where the OP is actually working on a dev issue (root, getting dex to run sans dock, etc.) and be able to get actual help.
Unfortunately these dev type threads get buried by non dev like questions and I imagine the people capable of helping won't come in here and dig for stuff to help with.

I would really like to get this working but could really do with some outside input. Having this in the more general section is going to make this vanish quickly.

look what I got
@jujusito @halo87 @nosympathy @dragunbayne @Harry44
Look what I just got in the mail...
...now just to reverse engineer it and make a schematic.

How would would this take?

@halo87 That sentence didn't make much sense...

You should ask this kind of questions on a proper EE forums because I don't think you'll have useful answers here. We're just a bunch of clueless dudes poking with firmware files.

Excited to see that someone is working (sort of) on exploiting the bootloader and thus avoiding the knox counter
Please let us know with your future progress :good:

Any progress on this? Trying to achieve UART myself, but so far nothing.

I actually made one and then lost it when formatting my laptop. I shall probably do it again in the next few days, possibly today. Heads up though, it is not a solution in itself. The resistor magic happens within the Anyway Jig and I think that only the S103 is compatible with USB C. In any case, watch this space. If you want to share any findings, please PM me!

Doesn't usb-c spec call for a 56k resistor in the cable? I remember there being a problem with incorrectly manufactured cable having 10k resistors.

I am using IDA Pro. I wish I also had hex-rays, but that is a little out of my budget.

I think so, but I am not 100% clear on the USB C spec. I can confirm that there are no resistors at all inside the cable though.

The pinout has now been uploaded. Happy hunting.
By the way, if anyone has an Anyway box and fancies sending it to me, I would be deeply grateful. Progress is getting slowed by how expensive it is to get hold of all of these secret Samsung parts.

someone succed to make uart cable ?

Need spares for LCD repair - coaxial cable

Hi,
my XDA Exec has got a dead screen - took the phone apart and found that the LCD coaxial has snaped.
Now i'm looking for XDA Exec spares - coaxial cable.
Where can I get such spare parts? Should I ask it from the HTC?
Thanks!
Told you this via eBay but you obviously didn't believe me eh?...
"You won't get one of those as a spare part other than from a broken handset unless you send your device directly to an authorised service centre for repair.
If you have opened your hinge too far and trapped the wires cutting them, it is possible to work out how to reconnect the broken wires in the hinge as I have previously done it myself."
Richard
Thanks for helping out!
The cable is fully snaped (twisted), because the screen has been rotated too much - all the wires are cut!
Is it really posible to connect all those tiny wires? How?
thanks again!

I wrote an answer detailing step by step how to do it with wiring diagram then realised it was you who outbid me for it on ebay so you're on your own. Sorry. Why should I help my competition?
Good Luck!
Richard
come on - this is ridiculous - I'm no competitor to you, I even don't make money with this.
I would never refuse to share my experience with people here, because we all have got something to share and we all sometimes need an advise!!
I'm not even form Uk... please give some advise if you can!
Thanks!

But you're buying MANY SPV / XDA faulty items from the UK site - if you're not making money then you're not very good at this eh?
You outbid me = you ARE my competitor.
You are buying faulty items and then asking for help to fix them to resell. No-one person could use all the devices you have bought recently, and you have to beg for help with basic repairs or fault finding for stuff that has not only been covered many times on this and other internet sites, but is also in some cases obvious.
I'll gladly help users with the odd problem or amateurs having a go at repairing friends / collegues devices etc etc but someone wanting my help with faulty devices they have bought has no chance.
I would rather help people who have problems with their existing devices. I do share my experiences, I have written many guides and how to's as well as answering questions, but when the question is from someone who is using my knowledge to profit in direct competition to me, hell yeah I'll keep it to myself.
You are not being honest. You say 'my XDA exec' when you received it in the post faulty 2 or 3 days ago at most.
My knowledge is from experience, I have experimented on many devices over the years breaking some of them in the process.
As for 'we all need advise' - feel free to check my posts here and on the other forums - I've NEVER asked for advice other than what colour phone to buy and even then I was joking....
What knowledge have you shared then? Today I wrote a stripdown manual for the new HTC StrTrk - it's on the internet
You are not the first with this problem, I have mentioned it several times, and if you would actually do a search rather than thinking you are so special and your issue so unique that your question demands a thread of it's own, you my find more info....
Richard
Good
Why such a hate!!!?
I'm not a liar - I have bought few phones and I'm looking only for cheap options such as buying faulty and trying to fix them - I now have sold all my phones - XV6600 can't be used in Europe, sold the old XDA 2i, bought a C500 as a present for my brother, still using the qtek 8020 and now just got the Exec...
you see - I'm not rich nor the people in my country - i can't afford to buy expensive phones in shops.
Ofcourse I'm a total beginer in this field and most of the time don't know what I'm doing, but still I have managed to find few solutions that nobody else had mentioned before - for example - you told me to get a new touchscreen for my XDA 2i due to screen align problem - but I found the old one to be good - i just made few experiments and I posted all the process in the forum...
And don't tell me you haven't asked for advice - look at your earlier posts year ago on modaco!!!
I don't know why are you so angry and full with hate - calling me competitor...
I was just considering to buy new housings for myself, for my brother and maybe in the future i would have bought some more parts from you if something would go wrong with my phones... but now - with such an attitude from you... I'm starting to reconsider it!!
Thanks for all the advices!!

They were never of the begging kind such as your questions like 'how do I do this' or 'can anyone please tell me' , they are always ' I have done this, here are pictures, how can I do it better?'
I explained my question thouroughly and then illustrated any answer I then came up with.

any progress towards figuring how to unbrick?

or does no one care about this?
Sure people care but the info just isn't there. A Jtag cable is involved and some additional software that no one can get there hands on.

Suggestions for 3rd-party device hardware distributors?

I'm interested in replacing the 1/8" stereo out jack on my n4. It went out a few months back and I could have and still can start an rma with google but I enjoy DIY projects and this one would be a good learning experience. I'm just looking for suggestions or advice pertaining to aftermarket hardware components and the best route to take in acquiring them.
thanks!
Sweet, I'll check that out. Thanks.
Guess I'm just gonna have to bull**** my way past the oppressive 10 post initiation period. Time to go ask some stupid questions in the wrong categories without utilizing the search feature first.... :cyclops:

Gaming on Android Head Unit...Any controllers working?

Hello All,
I recently installed a test game console emulator to see if it would work on my android head unit. Gladly, the emulator works and seems to operate at full speed. However, I tried to use my wireless xbox 360 controller and wireless receiver but it seems the system does not recognize it. I also tried using the xbox one bluetooth controller, but the system did not detect the controller via bluetooth. I then tried to install the wiimote but the wiimote controller app crashes once it detects the wiimote. Their website says they do not support android 4.2 and above yet.
Has anyone been interested in gaming on their android head unit and if so, have you tried using a variety of controllers? What has worked, and what hasn't?
I'm not too sure about what my android system's name is...it came in a generic white box. But I've posted pictures of the unit and information if that helps.
Thanks,
Scott
Gen Game New S3 is android 4.0+ I got it with my vr headset and use it with my firestick mostly, but it is legit straight across xbox similar. I have not tested it on a head unit but it's shown to be versatile thus far. You may need to get a bluetooth usb dongle but I doubt it.
USB dongle. Didn't think if that. Great idea! Thanks!
did the usb dongle work? mine didnt.

have you seen this issue addressed in these forums? been searching for weeks. and yes, we have an android tesla style head unit. we could open new threads, but i feel for continuity purposes and to help out those searching some closure here is warranted.

well aware of that, but see that was immensely more helpful than your other post. suggest having the mods then move this to the correct area; going back to my earlier post about continuity. people who google will be drawn here, and not necessarily to my new post so it would probably be more efficient to move than post.
edit: actually, i DID post in a similar thread in the head unit section. so theres actually two threads about this. but i still suggest moving this.
If after reading the forums as you said, you would have found that it is not possible due to the hacky BT on these copycat devices
Also, if you wanted the thread moved, report it. I have.
Thread moved.
Also note numerous posts on why other BT devices, do not work on these hacked Chinese head units.
not sure “it is not possible” is a fact; or more likely improbable. there is a youtube video of an nvidia controller working on bt. i wanted to see if an xbox one controller works which i already own, instead of buying another controller.
Is anyone else having the issue that their controller buttons are binded to head unit controls from factory? I'm trying to play emulated games and the buttons do things like close the app, open the radio app, dim screen, etc etc

Clone a phone due to bad USB port type C

So I have a LG V20 (T-Mobile),
A while back I was having alot of problems getting the charging port to work, the only solution I could think of was a new motherboard, the only place I found them for sale the cost was $130.
I then realized I had alot of lint and junk deep into the port, I successfully pulled this out and my port worked well, then I decided to get a magnetic charging cable, this allowed me to keep a plug in the port and keep out any debris. After a few weeks, my magnetic charger was having problems, loosing connection, slow charging..
I thought it was the cable, and purchased a different 1, same problems. My regular cable is working, but not perfectly and had to be adjusted a few times to get a fast charge.
I have tried contact cleaner and rubbing alcohol to clean the port, nothing is helping.
So onto my question,
I have found a used LG V20 in untested condition with no battery or back, it would be a bit of a gamble as to the motherboard/port being good.
Would I come into any problems either pulling the motherboard and swapping with my current V20, or would it be better to leave the motherboard and clone to that phone.
Anything a bit of a newbie would need to know?
thanks for any help,
Joe

I don't have this device but, I'm not sure which thread to guide you to since this is a type of a mixed topic question.
I would probably first try to obtain some member guidance within the following Q&A thread that's specific to your device.
