AT&T Network unlocked S7 edge won't work on T-Mobile for Data, there is a fix! - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Being told that my AT&T Network unlocked S7 edge won't work on T-Mobile for Data?
Does anyone know if this is true?
Is there anyway around this?
I tried there recommended APN settings and I can't get Data?
I'm on Android 7.0, Build Number NRD90M.G935AUCU4BQD4
See post #4 there is a fix!!!

Do you have a T-Mobile sim card? You can use AT&T unlocked phones on T-Mobile networks but not 100% usage. AT&T phones do not use 1700, or 12 LTE band.

Yes. Of course. Talk and text are working, just unable to get data.

I went to the T-mobile Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge forum, and Flashed T-Mobile Firmware, using a modified version of ODIN, and a PIT file.
My phone now boots up as a T-Mobile Phone, In Settings, About Device shows as SM-G9
All At&T bloatware is gone, and now have T-Mobile apps.
I even received a Software update push from T-Mobile, which downloaded and installed.
I never had to root. Android pay works, Data works.
Basically just converted a SM-G935A into a SM-G935T
Here's a link to the thread if anyone else needs to do this.

Well, I was trying to fix my apn settings on my sgs2 import because I was not getting mms messages and I used the "Reset to default" feature in the apn menu. I got three new apn settings that replaced the ones I had put in manually. The new ones are: ATT PHONE, ATT WAP, and BROADBAND. The settings seem to match the ones that are commonly sited for AT&T "4g" phones. So my guess is that AT&T recognized something new about my phone and gave me the "new" sgs2 settings. I used to get the Cingular 410 settings. Everything is working fine now.
You may want to just try Reset to default. I have the new AT&T "4g" sim and I am in the DC area just for reference.

To anybody on a grandfathered unlimited plan or the data for non-Smart Phones plan don't do this. I did, and like the OP said, it overlayed new default settings. These setting don't work unless you're on a 4G data plan. I lost all data connectivity afterward. I deleted the new (now the default) APN settings and replaced them with a new APN I had to create with the orignal settings. I'm also guessing for this to have happened that AT&T now recognizes the international SGS2 as a 4G phone running on their network. Otherwise, why would the default APN settings suddenly change? I hope this doesn't mean the end of the (almost) free ride we've been getting. So any APN settings posted from the AT&T version of the phone will be useless unless you're being billed for an official 4G plan.
In case anyone needs them, below are the standard settings:

Just to clarify, I have the grandfathered unlimited data plan, have a 4g sim and had my account changed to the use the 4G SOC code : HSDPPB. So in my case unlimited data and 4g are not mutually exclusive. I am getting the same speeds (6mbs - 8mbs) as I was when I manually entered the recommended setting from the "fix your apn" thread but now my mms is working.
I am not recommending anyone do it or not do it, just sharing my experience.

Anyone on a 4G plan, no matter how they got there, would benefit from the new APN. Anyone on a 3G plan will lose data connectivity. I get up to 8MB down in a fake-4G area using the Cingular 410 APN on a 3G plan. I get 3MB down at home in an area that's not been upgraded.
APN Settings for 3g on AT&T
Hi everyone. I added a new APN using the settings that BarryH_GEG posted. I had just bought the SGS2 I9100 off eBay. It was bought at a great price. Now, when I had put in my Sim card, it was not recognizing the data network. Weird because it showed my Sim contacts and my Sim and Network info in the About the Phone section in Settings. Because of this forum, it now reads my Sim along with the 3G ATT network. I was starting to get pissed, then realized it was just the APN settings. Now everything works great. Best phone I have ever owned. Thanks again BarryH_GEG for the settings info..

For those trying to getthe i9100 ICS XXLPB AT&T settings
After reading many threads, stretching my Google-fu to the limit, flashing many modems, and spending an hour on the phone with AT$T Tech support, I found a solution and will try to pay it forward.
First roll back to XXKPA modem.
Then create two APNs.
The first:
(Enter only the listed values. Leave all other fields at their default values. )
Name: AT&T
APN: wap.cingular
Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
Port: 80
MMSC: mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
MMS Port: 80
APN Protocol: IPv4/IPV6
APN Type: default,supl,fota,dun
***SAVE!***
Then create the second:
Name: Broadband
APN: Phone
APN Protocol: IPv4
***SAVE!***
Select the radio button for Broadband APN.
Enable and then disable Airplane Mode.
Then you will see the 3g/H+ icons flashing and you are done!

The APN depends on the type of DATA (3G/4G) that is provisioned (SOC) on each individual's account.
1) wap.cingular is the correct APN if your account is provisioned for 3G DATA
2) phone is the correct APN if your account is provisioned for 4G DATA
With regards to the 3G/H/H+ icon that depends on the cell site and not the APN configured on the phone. With GSM technology, the phone tells the cell site this is what I am capable of and the cell site tells the phone what it is capable of and then the phone utilizes the best possible option.
As an example, if the cell site is upgraded to HSPA+ the phone will display H+, if the cell site is only capable of UMTS it would display 3G.

Here is a thread I started a while back that discusses my findings with APNs on AT&T...

Basically, the pta apn worked best and you have to be on the LTE data plan and have an LTE sim to use it. More information is in the thread I posted.

Net10 Sim Issues.....Anybody Else?

I have had my Nexus 4 about a week and a half now. I am trying to decide what service to go with, and I have tired a T-Mobile prepaid sim and am currently attempting to use Net10 Sim with an ATT micro-sim purchased from Best Buy.
I have been having so many data issues with Net10, I would say it is not even usable. My APN settings are below, but doing some internet searches, it seems like there are Data connectivity issues with Net10? I was just going to see if anybody else has experienced this and if they found a way to tweek the APN settings to make this work. Net10 support reps have yet to offer any solution. I go for periods without any data at all while my signal is blue with an H (I am typically on HSPA+ 15 or 10). I cannot use many of my apps that require data and I have to refresh websites multiple times to get it to load.
Do the same issues exist on Straight Talk with the ATT Micro-Sim? I did not have any issues like this with the T-Mobile prepaid sim so I do not believe it is a radio issue. I am trying to find out about ATT through either straight-talk or Net10 since T-Mobile does not have a signal in my wife's school. Thanks!

I've updated this setting. Data is very slow and I am still unable to use some apps that work fine on WiFi such as SatelliteGuys (works after I try several times), XDA (haven't used successfully) & SpeedTest (doesn't work says network communication issues) & DishRemote App (can't login even). Google music seems to work and I can send texts, will try an mms soon. I'm really thinking this is an issue with Net10. I've barely used any data so I don't think I am throttled. Really bad service thus far.
Assuming Straight Talk has the same issues with the ATT service? BTW, I am in the Kansas City metro area, full strength.
i used to have net10 and on some days the internet wouldn't work
Any data interruption, I would say it's AT&T service in your area. NET10 is the same as Straight Talk, once you set your APN and data works, it just works. You may want to check by borrowing a friend's SIM Tmo, AT&T or any compatible network, set the right APN, test, troubleshoot and compare. Another issue could be your radio.
If you input the first proxy, some apps/things won't work and may be blocked from access i.e. speedtest

[Q] Verizon S5 not working with T-Mobile SIM

from my understanding, Verizon Galaxy s5 comes factory unlocked as well as all other verizon LTE phones, although, my t mobile SIM is not working for the phone, i cannot contact verizon as it is on the blacklist for them, i tested with AT&T SIM and the phone does work for GSM so why doesnt it work for my t mobile sim? is it a faulty SIM? i have contacted samsung and t mobile about this and they were no help

There's now a IMEI blacklist that of the major U.S. carriers all share (Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, as well as some regional carriers). That means blacklisted Verizon phones may not work on T-Mobile or AT&T (in the past, it only meant they wouldn't work on Verizon). Perhaps AT&T hasn't updated their system with the most recent info to include the phone you have while T-Mobile has.
There's always a chance that it's something else, but I have no problems with my S5 (which isn't blacklisted anywhere) on T-Mobile's network with an active T-Mobile SIM.

Verizon branded LGV20 On tmobile, no 4G and no LTE

So, I got my LGv20 through work as I do all my phones and usually just pop in my tmobile sim, mess with the APN and bam, 4GLTE and all is good. But, for the life of me I cannot get 4g or LTE on this damn phone. I know my APN settings are good as I have been using them on my note 7 and s7 edge and a slew of others but the lgv20, like the lgv10 before it, will NOT do lte let alone 4G. I know it can do it as occasionally i will se 4Glte in the display but it goes right back to "H" in a few seconds. Any help to maintain 4glte on this would be greatly appreciated.

Under mobile networks you have mobile data on, data roaming on, network mode set to GSM/WCDMNA/LTE auto right?
Looking at the Verizon model, it does not support band 12 which could be why you see it for a second (if you have weak band 4 coverage).
Try this if you're willing to mess around with the modem/radio settings
Dial
*#546368#*995#
Go to field test option
Modem settings
LTE Band selection
Choose band 4
Then hit the home soft key and see if that fixes it. You can revert back to auto scanning by going back into that Modem settings menu and choosing Network Mode and setting it to AUTO.
IF you see a band 12, you can try that and see if you can force the phone onto it as well. Keep in mind, until you choose the AUTO network mode, the modem is locked to that LTE band I believe
Do this at your own risk - I use it to turn on/off lte bands personally and don't have issues but each person/phone is different
I tried this a while ago on both a VZW sim and a Tmo sim and it never works. With a tmo sim I get connection problem with MMI code and with a VZW sim it just calls VZW with an error.
That is really strange since the bands support is there and from my understanding VZW phones are all ulocked from the factory.
Have you tried calling Tmobile? Maybe its' the sim itself causing an issue or you're not provisioned properly in their system

however, Under System Select (Change the network mode)
Under the Network mode choose LTE/CDMA and you will permanently have 4glte, I can't believe I discovered this, because I was having the EXACT same problem as you my friend......
Same
Yeah! But you cannot make calls!
I had the same issue when I was using the verizon variation of the V20. I would actually recommend just trying to find the H918 then you can even get the correct the antenna bands for LTE.
Otherwise I just used it with "H+"

Which firmware (U / V) is better to use on VZW?

So I am new to the s7 edge and I've only had it a few days, and I'm curious about which firmware is better to use on the Verizon s7 edge. Unlocked or verizon?
Is there really much of a difference that is good enough to change firmware?
Thanks!
Haven't flashed V myself but I'm getting great LTE and battery performance off of U (Nougat 7.0 root). I've tested each Verizon service apart from video calling and they all work as intended. Similar upload and download speeds using Global or CDMA/LTE, battery drops about 5% overnight with Google ad services disabled and AdAway host files.

Advanced calling settings indicated I was already upgraded to HD voice and video calling on my initial flash to 935u before inserting sim.
Confirmed working with a sim that was previously activated, taken out of an s6 edge running g925v 7.0 nougat stock. Make sure you update Google carrier services if you're dropping LTE during calls for whatever reason.
Also probably important to note I'm running this firmware on a rooted AT&T S7 Active, and installed the proper Verizon APN's with this mod: https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-active/development/rom-mod-release-t3635879
