Network Switcher App - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

Hello, I'm searching for a working (root) App that switches the network mode, for example to 3G or LTE only. ZTE has only limited options in Stock settings... I live in a town Where 3g and LTE are possible but the axon does not switch the network Mode from 2G up really quick. And 2G is a pain here.
Thank you!

This one should work, but it is not free unfortunately. I know for a fact that it works on my Nexus 5X and 6 with Android 7.1.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cygery.togglenetworktype
Edit: I just tried to use this on my Axon 7 and had no luck...so my apologies for mentioning this app as it doesn't seem to work for this device, at least on Stock. Also, ZTE seems to have screwed the pooch on the Testing Menu mentioned below - almost all of the various network types have been disabled from use it seems, aside from GSM only, Global auto, and LTE/CDMA/UMTS auto (PRL). On my Verizon SIM I also can't force 1X only...nor EvDO only (though admittedly this wouldn't be of much use anyway). Kind of annoying that ZTE has done this.

*#*#4636#*#* in the dialer does the same thing. Works in both stock and los.

[Q] problems when switching from 3g to 2g

Hi There,
I'm a rather new nexus owner and I'm also quite new to the android world.
I own a nexus S wehich I bought second hand, it came with Superaosp 8 preinstalled.
I flashed 8.2 and yesterday 8.6 and I have a rather nasty issue wich I recognized only one week ago.
I'm living in a city with quite good 3g network however in case I go countryside or have bad 3g network my nexus does not switch to 2g automatically.
Even if I try to enable 2g manually it does not find any connection. only a reboot helps and it gets online again.
on the "hidden" menu which I reach with *#*#4636#*#* I set it to WCDMA preferred and this did not help.
Is there anybody who can giveme some hint what else I can do or check?
thanks in advance.

Network Mode - Verizon

I noticed that by default this phone is setup to use "Global" as the preferred network mode. I'm thinking that means it'll try to use CDMA, LTE, and GSM networks. I noticed there's a setting for "LTE / CDMA" and I'm thinking this setting may save some battery because the radio software wont try to use the non-existent GSM for Verizon.
Anyone play around with this setting and notice a difference? I just switched to LTE / CDMA. I lost data until I rebooted and now everything is working fine. It's odd that it was set as Global to begin with.
I did the same thing you did. I notice no difference but it does work fine. I also tried fooling around with lte on/off app. Is there a simple widget that can be used to toggle between 4g and 3g? If I know i won't be using the phone for a while i would like to switch to 3g to save battery.

You can download an app called Phone Info -- open it up and go down to Network mode, select CDMA (Auto) that will force 3G only.
It will remain until you reboot.
I used to do this with my OG HD and it did save quite a bit of battery but in my semi-scientific tests the difference on the Maxx HD is almost nonexistent, certainly not worth the reduction in speed or the inability to use data and voice simultaneously.
I don't know if you noticed but, data and voice simultaneously is possible even in 3g mode with the razrHD Max. The greatest android phone verizon has ever offered.

Switch Network Modes!

Sorry, I'm a little new to the AT&T Note 3 as I was used to T-Mobile and their phones (still use their network by the way)...So, I was looking around to see if I could switch my network modes (e.g. GSM,WCDMA,LTE, or combinations of both). Its pretty helpful if you need to switch to WCDMA,GSM, or other modes. Some of you may know it, but I am new to this stuff and hopefully I help others who don't know much about this either. On your dialer, enter *#*#4636#*#* then press device information and you'll be able to switch network modes! Just found that out and wanted to enlighten others. Press that thumbs up if this was somewhat helpful!
we already know this but thanks. And to get 4G on an att note 3 is pretty much useless without enabling the AWS bands.

On all of my past AT&T Phones, I never had this stick for me. The phone would always switch back to LTE after a short time. I am using Intelli3G with Xposed and I can now successfully turn off LTE when I need to with a toggle.

The building that i work in seems to almost block the LTE signal for all AT&T phones. There are a few of us in my department that have issues with this. The phone will constantly switch between 4G and LTE, this also causes the phone battery to die faster. Since we can't flash an unlocked radio the Note 3, the Xposed module was my best bet. As soon as i switch over to the just 4G by making my phone use WCDM only, I have no issues with signal. Using the hidden menu, (*#*#4636#*#*), and switching it to WCDMA Only doesn't stick permanently. I had this issue once before with my Skyrocket, but with that phone you were able to flash a RAT Unlocked radio or a non-LTE radio on the phone and that would disable LTE as well. As soon as i step outside of my building, my LTE signal is strong and I have no issues at all.
In my jobs basement only people who get any sort of signal are people who have tmobile. Would this help me get signal as well?
It's worth a shot, it works flawlessly for me.

I have to wonder if changing your network mode after a throttling would still allow good download speeds???????????????
Update: sadly changing to a different network mode does not work to remove a throttle. Neither does flashing a different modem. If only the bootloader was unlocked.... Crossing fingers and remaining hopeful with my blazing edge network speeds.: (
Can anyone tell me what the default mode is?

4g / LTE Toggle / radio control

At work the 4g LTE signal for ATT is very poor in the building, but we have 4g repeaters for ATT to fix this issue. Unfortunately, phones are stubborn and like to stay on 4g LTE despite having 1 bar of signal vs full signal with 4g. I had this same issue on my iphone 5 but was able to easily force off LTE while i was at work and have a steady, reliable data connection. My Note 4 seems to have the same affinity to wanting to be on 1 bar of LTE, but I cannot figure out a way to toggle / force LTE off and just use 4g. Anyone have any ideas? Anyone know of an application I can use to resolve this issue?
Thanks
try settings...more networks...mobile networks....network mode....It should be in there..I have the sprint model so I don't know for sure...but that is where mine is....hope this helps

Unfortunately, there is no option for Network mode on the ATT version. I wonder if this has to do with voLTE....
I did find a backway to the network mode via *#*#4636#*#* but I am unsure of what I should be setting to "disable" lte while I'm in the building at work.
I think I've sorted this out now. If I change LTE/GSM AUTO to WCDMA preferred it seems to immediately switch and hold onto 4G. I do have to change it back. Maybe I will write something so I can quick toggle this since nothing on the app store seems to work.
hi,
If you are rooted ? You can use an xpose module called Intelli3G
I use it on my phone ,works 100% and switches smoothly/fast between eg 4G..3G automatic
eg if my data is of its on 3G as soon as i switch data on /wifi it changes to 4 G
For interest sake ,here is a link to market ,you can read desciption what it does ?

UMI Super 3G instead of 4G

Hi,
did anyone using Umi Super have any problems with using 4G at 800MHz? Im on giffgaff and even though Umi Super is supposed to work at 4G under 800MHz (thats what the specification states) i cant manage to make it work. I have perfect 4G coverage, 4G sim, 4G tariff, even gave my sim to a friend with S7 edge and it worked on his phone. Maybe new update will fix that? I tried with different sim from different operator (LYCA) and it works but 4G in LYCA is at 2100MHz so I didnt really check the 800. I tried everything and still nothing. Did anyone have similar problem?
I actually bought 2 phones of the same model so I decided to check if 4G worked on the other one and as I put the sim card in I just remembered something and realized same thing happened with my phone. When I put the SIM card in for the first time it DID automatically go to 4G, ok, when I looked for available networks it found O2 4G, granted BUT!!! when i got to "preferred network type" there is only 3G to pick, and THE MOMENT I PICK IT there is not possible to go back. Every network I find from that moment is only 2G or 3G. Now i reckon that a software problem right? See attachments
It is a software bug and I think I sort it out after flashing the phone. For now I sorted out the problem using Networks app by Philipp Mangalov and switching network to LTE/GSM auto
Well it seems the data part of the UMI SUPER is not so super, is it? I face a similar problem but worse. The 4G band of 800 doesn't work(despite being advertized by UMI as supported) but luckily the band of 2100 works without any issues. The problem comes when I'm out of 2100 band coverage and phone must switch to 3G - then I lose all data connectivity completely. So basically whenever I'm out of 4G 2100 coverage(which is often) I am without any connectivity! Anyone facing the same? Solution?

I don't have this issue at all. My UMi Super connects perfectly to my 4g network under 800MHz without an issue here in Uganda. You can install the MTK Engineering app from the play store and check the band compatibility on ur device and you can also set the mode using the same app under android settings.
You could also try updating to the latest OTA which is 20160810 or the one before it by downloading the files from forum post here and saving them to ur phone and updating manually if you don't have the current OTA

GravityBox is a perfect solution for this problem. You can set up an icon in notification bar allowing You to toggle between 2G/3G/4G

This is indeed a software issue, one I have come accross many times - using an app to toggle between the service types is the best workaround!
There are many apps that work to resolve this, some great ones have already been mentioned.

4g Umi Super on Giff Gaff
You need Giff Gaff settings in access point name. If you try and use O2 4g it doesn't work even though Giff Gaff uses O2 network. Settings are really easy to input but MUST be Giff Gaff not O2.

All that's needed is GiffGaff settings inputing manually. Very easy to do. O2 settings that the phone recognises when a GiffGaff sim is used WILL NOT WORK. The Network is O2 but the APN settings for GiffGaff are totally different.
All you guys that think you know what you're doing obviously don't.
No need to Root or use GravityBox or any other App.

Well said. I just shake my head in despair when I see how totally clueless people try to be teachers and Internet gurus with very limited knowledge about the task at hand. These comments should come with warning stickers.
For those who want to be able to switch between 3G/4G and LTE only, use this nifty little APK that I've attached below. It will allow you to enter engineer mode without using the dial code.
Hi
This is a bug implemented in Android 7.0.
I had the same.
1 Just force in your parameters 2G/3G networks
2 wait for network authentification (no more excalamtion mark)
3 go back to 4G
Every thing will be OK to next switch off or plane mode.
Rgds,
LTE band 7 (2600) not working
I recently received my new Umi Super and updated to the last firmware V7.01_20170413, everything works fine except for the 4G. I live in an area where band 7 (2600) is available but the phone can't connect to it. Of course, my preferred network type is set to 4G/3G/2G (auto).
I read a lot about the issue on the internet but I can't find a solution.
I checked the BandMode on the phone by dialing *#*#3646633#*#*, band 7 is included and checked. However, when I tried to remove the other LTE bands and keep only band 7, I got a message explaining that the list can't be empty ("Failed. The band is changed from not null to null, it is illegal"), though the list was not completely empty because band 7 was still selected.
Also, I tried to change the radio band by dialing *#*#4636#*#*, but process com.android.phone stopped working when I pressed "select radio band", even after I cleared cache in phone and sim apps.
Can anyone tell me how to fix the problem and get connected to 4G.
BTW, Network by Philipp Mangelow is not available anymore. Switching between 3G/2G and 4G/3G/2G settings doesn't fix the issue. I tried the giffgaff settings, but the APN gets deleted as soon as I try to save it.
Thanks

You may try to force 3G and then try to force 4G
You may try to user another IMEI number from a UMI device with 2600 support (of course backup/write down the original one before just in case)
http://www.ucc.co.ug/data/imei/2
After the update to Nougat 7.x how long does it take to do a full recharge?
Do you still have fast charge feature (< 1 hour) or do you lost it like all users reported so far?
What about your GPS? Do you have a fast fix after cleaning history and is it reliable (not losing signal often?).

Is it safe to change the IMEI number? and where can I find another number for a UMI device?
GPS is working fine, it fixes pretty fast, but I'm not sure about interruption in the signal because I haven't used it enough yet
