Ask for advice - LG G6 Questions and Answers

Hello,
I would like with advice on buying the LG G6: I currently hesitate between the Samsung S8 and the LG G6.
Can someone tell me if the quality of the screen and the sound is wonderful to use it mainly for multimedia use? I like watch movies in Netflix & Video in YouTube, did they have add this screen ratio, or a tool for have a fullscreen, or it's not supported for now ?
What are the advantages of the LG G6 compared to the Samsung Galaxy S8?
Do you think it is more resistant to shock compared to the Samsung Galaxy S8 with its rounded edges?
Thank you

I` ve got two LG G6.
Advantages - flat screen. Black verson looks like bezelless.
Sound is very good Loud and clear. Compared to my Oneplus 3 and Nexus 6p (6p is louder cause has two speakers)
Blacks and contrast is very good. I loved Amoleds but honestly only at ultra dark room you can see it is not amoled.
Resolution is great - all is ultra crispy.
I have to admit that one of the best Lg`s phone.
And the most important is that i was a fan of stock (google android) but Lg skin is very good. Themes are really geat.
And the last but not least. I thnk Lg G6 is more solid than S8. It has more solid frame and i think the corners are more solid.

Hi SrazZz
Both The Lg G6 and S8 are Beautiful phones with Good screens
However s8's colors are more deep Compared To g6 being a Amoled panel on the s8
G6 on the other hand Has the most Crisp IPS display in the market . It's Not Bad it's really great But not On par with Samsung Amoled Panel
I have a s8+ and Rounded edges make it difficult to hold and It's really slippery without a case
G6 is a Sturdy phone with good grip and Less slippery in hand in my opinion . S8 just slides whichever surface you put it on .
Lg on the other hand has Dolby vision
S8 does not
And For now Only Netflix and Amazon Prime Video support the 18:9 aspect ratio and Do a pretty good job
YOU won't be disappointed in either of them
S8 fingerprint scanner is also more difficult to use than lg g6
lg has a wide angle camera Which s8 doesn't and really has a edge based on wide view photos
However s8 photos come out a bit more oversaturated like You have edited them in Snapseed lol
It's your choice both phones are best at their jobs?

Upgrade from G4, but to what?

So due to some problems with the quality (bootloop, severe ghosting, etc.) I got refunded,
now the thing is I really loved this phone, the camera was amazing, the screen was crisp and the device looked and felt premium.
What I am most worried about is I don't seem to see a phablet that definitely is an upgrade in terms of camera quality.
The Note 7 first scratches and then explodes, the iPhone 7 Plus 128gb costs 1009 Euro in Europe and besides those two I don't really know any 5,5 inch or bigger that definitely beat the G4 in cam quality
Any suggestions? Anyone upgraded from the G4? If yes, to what? How does the cam compare?

G5 seems to tick all the boxes on your check list.
-Great Camera
-Great Screen
-Metallic,slim and premium
Though a number of short coming too. Actually I read that LG were pretty disappointed with the sales they have so far registered.
Personally would go for Nexus 6p or wait for LG V20
I'd recommend Oneplus 3. Had it for a day now and don't think I'll use my G4 anymore.
Bought my 1+3 it at the same time as I sent my G4 to warranty repair, it was rooted and bootloader unlocked etc.
Still got it repaired for free. (replaced motherboard) But no G4 for me anymore, guess I'll keep it as a spare.

Haven't had the time to try too much, but the few shots I have taken on auto settings, look great. It has a manual mode too, but it hasn't got so many settings as the G4.
I will try to switch to sammy, after doing the g2/g3/g4. Sever ghosting and poor battery....S7 edge has it all, great battery, great camera, beautiful design, water and dust proof....
What about the Axon 7?
Get the samsung galaxy note 4 i know its old but has qhd and removable battery and sd card and has a lot of roms
Note 7 has a nice overall size... Overpriced iphone territory , but with the rep it is currently getting, a price drop will be right around the corner since fire hazard doesn't scream flagship lol
I d prefer S6 EDGE.
xiaomi 3s 4000mah battery and im ok...
I think the V20 would be a very good replacement for the G4.
Very good hardware and specs for the price you have to pay.
Thanks for the suggestions guys, V20 is not available in my country yet and I don't know if it will be but it is interesting. Note 7 seems to not be liked at airlines so I would avoid that. I am thinking about the Oneplus 3.
What worries me the most is that I wouldnt really like a downgrade in the camera department. G4 made great shots even when it was a bit dark!

One plus three takes good shots overall. In my opinion the camera was the weakest point of the 1+3. Software and XDA support is amazing. And the price point is almost unbeatable for the specs you receive.

I had G4 H815. Than the radio died and I've sent it for repair. It took them about two months to repair it. In the meantime I was looking for a replacement. The OnePlus 3 was the first thought, but the camera shots are nowhere near G4 in my opinion. It had AMOLED screen which bleeds my eyes with saturation . Samsung also uses their AMOLED screens which I don't like at all, but the camera is comparable. Nexus 6P is also amazing phone, maybe the best replacement for G4 regarding camera and premium feel. Also other Huawei flagship phones.
I ended up returning to my beloved G4 as nothing compares to leather, 5.5" IPS screen and great camera.
I'm waiting for a Pixel, but I'm a bit concerned that it would be with AMOLED screen also

Well I did switch to s7 edge. Build quality is from another world (tho I bought spigen case, just as for all the lg series I owned) screen is something you need to experience yourself. And it's the first phone I dont feel the need to root! Yesterday with 3hrs20min Sot I still had battery left 40%! You can't beat that, actually you can't beat any of the sammy features! G4 photos still look better but the autofocus of s7 is a unbelievable fast! I feelt in love with lg2 back then after owning s4 and they ruined it! Such a shame

Exactly, in good light the +3 camera is competitive with the best out there but once light starts to get low, the +3 won't compete with the G4.The 6P is better than the +3 camera. But i still give the edge to the G4 over the 6P.
This isn't surprising when its built to such a tight budget. +3 is for people that are not too serious about camera. About price, performance. 3rd party support.
Oh and there is no microsd on the +3 either.

6P is the closest you can get. But you can't take too many shots one after the other. If you can consider the 6P then i don't see why the s7e or s7 cannot be an options .better cameras than the 6P. Te downside is because they use 12MP 4:3 sensor for some strange reason, if you want 16:9 aspect your resolution drops to 9MP. That will lose in some cases to native 16:9 16MP on the LG's.
The edge variant has the option for clip on lenses. The advantage here is you get wide angle or 2x zoom AND retain OIS with the f1.7 aperture. Something neither LG nor apple can do with their secondary cameras but then you don't have to carry extra lenses.
If i was in your shoes and maybe i will be one day, my options are another G4 for less than i paid the first time (such a unique phone in so many ways) or the G6. There will never be another phone like the G4, tapering edges, slight curve, good feel in the hand, leather etc.
The G6 i expect will get the sensor upgrade. G4, V10, G5, V20, g flex 3? all use the same sensor. The software has improved but the sensor remains the same. This is how LG does things. It was the same with G2 up to G flex 2.

Why choose this phone ?

Hey guys,
why choose a P10 over a G6 or the Samsung ? What benefits do you get of the P10 ? No water resistant.... small display.....
EMUI and the camera. For a photographer (instagram.com/austriker) huawei has put a ton of slick UI and camera features in the phone. I can't wait to get one.
Also I am sick of Samsung, I need a pause.....
Had Samsung phones before, they're good but bloated and there's nothing striking about the new one.
Read/watched reviews of both the G6 and the P10 Plus, G6 is more expensive for little gain. The 0.2" diagonal difference is not something you're going to notice in use, wireless charging is a nice idea but not a deal breaker. Going by the reviews LG's camera is not so good and it has a smaller battery.
P10P has stereo speakers and Corning Gorilla glass 5 as opposed to 3 on the LG (no idea if that's better or not)
I am dumping my awful LG G5 (GPS problems fixed then screen ghosting - had enough!) for the P10 Plus - arrives this Wednesday... can't wait!

My girlfriend has had Samsung and now has the p10 plus. Samsung was bloated yes. But you should see the p10+ it has so much crap on it and most of the apps are duped but by different Devs. I was happy that i could disable/uninstall most of it though

Samsung? sick of it! LG phones are good but the battery life sucks.
I changed to P10+ because of its EMUI, the beautiful 2K mon, the feel in my hand and the camera.
I hate the curved edges - I like my screen flat all the way across. Also, I wanted to try something with color (other than black, white, blue, or silver) and the only phone with options is apple. Not a big IPhone fan. I know the p10 is a little reminiscent, but at least there's an option to get the app drawer back!

G4 owners upgrading to G6: happy with purchase?

I have the LG G4 and was considering the upgrade to G6. Verizon customer.
1. How do the cameras compare? The rear is supposed to be better by all accounts. Front camera is 5 MP on G6 and 8 MP on G4, is this a downgrade in photo quality? Perhaps not since MP is not everything.
2. How does the battery life compare?
3. Is a case important on G6? Seems necessary with all that glass. G4 was excellent for handling falls due to leather or plastic back and slight curve in screen.
Downsides are loss of IR blaster and no more removable battery. Any other losses upgrading G4 to G6?
One more thing, the Galaxy S8 can stretch youtube videos to fullscreen but I get the impression the G6 does not have this ability, is that correct?

I upgraded from a G3 to a G6 on Sprint. I haven't had it long enough to answer all your questions, but I can offer a little input.
The battery life is significantly better. Obviously, there is a lot of degradation given the G3 is several years old, but I went out and bought a new G3 battery a year ago. The G6 gets me through a whole day easy. I do use an Android Wear watch to triage notifications, so I have a less than average screen time on the phone, but I'll go running using the phone's GPS in the morning or do an hour of lifting with the screen on the whole time inputting into an exercise app, etc. The fast charge on the G6 is amazing. It is multiples faster charging than the G3. I also bought a wireless charger, which is great to set on my desk at work.
I think a case is important. The glass back is gorgeous, but I've only seen it for about 10 seconds once while I held it 6 inches over a plush carpet to install the case. I dunno. I put on a Spigen carbon case, and it does not add much bulk to the phone. I had a Spigen on my G3 for three years and it looked like it went through a war. The G3 looks pristine.
Lack of IR blaster wasn't a problem for me because I just took my old G3 and put it in the TV room to use as a remote. The only issue I see with the non-removable battery is getting a few years down the road when its capacity is less.
I don't use YouTube much at all. I did just now pop it open and fired up a video, and can confirm it did not stretch to full screen. I thought I read somewhere that Google was going to work on this on the software end as they're expecting more 16:9 phones to come along. I have no idea what the S8 does.
I haven't tested out the camera much. Honestly, I was amazed at the high quality of the G3 camera and would be happy if the G6 was as good. I take videos of our kid's wrestling matches and share some of the videos with other parents when they can't be there to watch their kids. I have gotten a lot of remarks about how fantastic my phone's videos are (the G3, that is) from people that have iPhone 6's and 7's. Still photos were awesome from the G3, and I should drag my butt out and try out the G6's new wide view.
I can't think of any other downsides. I do like the form factor of the G6 a lot more than the G3. I didn't mind the G3 that much, but the G6 is a lot narrower. It feels much more comfortable in the hand than the G3. It's taller, but that doesn't seem to be much of an issue for me. Fingerprint scanner on the G6 is great. Unlocks the phone instantly. It was a big adjustment to get used to volume buttons on the back of the G3, and now it's a big adjustment to get used to the "normal" side buttons of the G6. The G6 doesn't seem crazy faster than the G3 and the screen resolution is the same. The G6 does look a little sharper and clearer. My Sprint G6 is supposed to have this awesome new HPUE that increases speeds inside buildings, but I haven't noticed much of a difference in LTE speeds. Maybe that will come.
My G3 was stuck on Marshmallow, and the G6 comes with Nougat and Google Assistant out of the box. I haven't gotten into any good conversations with Assistant yet.

LG G6 Media Consumption?

I've recently been looking to get a new phone, and I have narrowed it down to the oneplus 3T or the LG G6 (I found somewhere to buy it for around £350). I watch a lot of TV and films on my phone, so I was wondering what people think of the LG G6 for watching videos? How would it compare to my current Moto X style, which has a 5.7 inch screen, but is 16:9? Would a oneplus 3T be better for videos?
I don't know much about the screen on the Moto X Style. LG G6 uses IPS technology, OnePlus 3t uses amoled. Most people (not me) think amoled looks better. G6 has better screen resolution, but I do not think this matters on a screen that small. Youtube videos have black bars on the sides due to the 18/9 aspect ratio of the G6. In the end both are fine and it is a matter of personal preference.
Thanks for the reply,
I was mainly talking about screensize, sorry for the badly worded question.
What I'm trying to say is do you think that the LG G6 has a big enough screen to watch films etc since most videos are 16:9 and the phone is 18:9 so videos don't use the full, or is it too small for watching lots of videos?
I'm saying this because I worked out that when 16:9 videos play on the g6's screen, they take up the equivalent of a 5.1 inch screen, which in my opinion is slightly small for watching videos, so I wanted to see the opinions of people who use the phone.
Thanks for replying
Well I have watched utube videos is both resolutions and I haven't noticed any difference but g6 screen is larger than it appears and it takes little getting used to but ips led panel has better picture and amoleds have screen burn in so beware of that.

LG G6 screen vs amoled: are you happy? I'm disappointed...

Hi everyone...
my operator just offered a limited-time rebate, that lowers G6 cost to just 310 EUR, so i decided to seriously consider it as my Note 4 is on its last legs with its snail-speed EMMC memory which is also a time bomb as it can fail at any moment.
LG G6 is one of the few phones (apart from the Sharp Aquos or Xiaomi Mi Mix) that i actually like...
so i went to a huge department store to test it in real life... and was very disappointed, as the screen looks dull, and text clarity is mediocre. Websites like Android Authority (with gray text) look mediocre too.. Also the store (mediamarkt) was very well lit with lamps, and raising the brightness to max level only made the brightness good enough... well, comparing the LG G6 screen with my note 4 side by side was upsetting, it looked somewhat grayish, and would be clearly a downgrade. The key thing is that it is not crisp.
In the same store were also samsung and huawei demo zones. I understand that LG G6 and Huawei phones have IPS screens... The phone (screen) that I liked very much turned out to be Huawei Mate 9. Huawei P10 was also nice, but Mate 9 screen was the best imho. Unfortunately i recommended a huawei phone to muy friend (it was Huawei Note 8) and now he has tremendous communication delays, whatsapps get delivered sometimes hours later (here users complain about the same problem), so Huawei unfortunately is not an option for me. I was really hoping LG G6 would do, especially at a very decent price of 310 EUR.
I thought maybe it was a defective unit... so i went to another department store nearby that was less lit and also had LG G6 demo zone. It actually had several G6s and they all had that mediocre screens...
Finally i'm afraid i will have to skip that 310 EUR offer which is a pity, i'd love to have a more snappy phone... And in general G6 is very compact and nice...
Wondering what are your impressions from LG G6 screen? I've looked though these forums and see that most people rave about it, which is astonishing. Am i too critical?
I have the (Korean?) H870DS 64GB, Quad DAC version and I am extremely happy with the screen. AMOLED screens may have vibrant colours and black-black, but the colours just don't look natural.
LG G6 has one of the best screens out there, it's got HDR10 display certified too that it almost matches the very best displays like the Galaxy S8, where as IPS Quantum Display in the LG is better than AMOLED is the oranges you see on the AMOLED appear very red , AMOLED are being notorious for over-saturation and longer image retention (screen burn in might be permanent in AMOLED where as IPS the burn in is temporary) LG IPS Quantum Display has excellent whites and more natural colours.
If you are used to seeing life through an over-saturated screen then accurate RGB will seem subdued.
However go into settings on your Note 4 and turn display mode to BASIC and you will see RGB mode on Samsung panels looks very different. Now compare to the G6 ...
Remember Display Mate rate Samsung panels highly based on the 'basic' mode due to colour accuracy and not on Adaptive Display mode they ship with as default.
However if you are fan of the boosted colours then likely only another over saturated AMOLED panel will appease and therefore the G6 isn't for you.

I am happy with the change i have come from an s8 with the screen i have had all the s range all the note range bar the 5 as was not out in the uk and there is not really that much difference part from blacks look really black on samsung phones my whites look white on my g6 unlike my s8 they looked pink/ red if you are not picking you will find faults and the lg ui is more fluid and faster than my s8 not had one bit of stutter or lag on my g6 but had fair bot on s8
No complaints about the G6 screen. This was my first LCD phone is many years (previously S6, S4, S3, and Note 2; plus Galaxy Tab S), so was worried about switching to the G6's LCD. I see the differences when I compare side-by-side, but I don't notice the difference when I use the G6 by itself.
The Huawei you saw at the store might be set to demo/display mode (like TVs) that maximizes brightness and color to levels you probably wouldn't use.
Yes it does have the hdr 10 thing but there is other phones having it but what the lg g6 is the only phone certifed for , is the dolby vision nd it s the only phone till now it does take the hdr thing to another level
No complaints with the screen here, seems just as crisp as my Galaxy S6, with the added benefit of no screen burn. Very happy.

It's more of a personal choice. I find benefits in both superAmoled, and IPS panels. For me, Amoled is better for long time reading, mostly because of true blacks and less backlight emitition (as I use with my tab s3) while for more realistic colors and specially true white, I prefer my G6. It has probably the best IPS panel I've seen by far.
Unrelated, but somehow related to screen experience, my s7 was a fingerprint magnet. G6 oleophobic coating seems to be much better! (At least after a few weeks)

As with most tv content HDR is useless and really really useless during the daytime. This coming from a guy who invested $5k last year on 4k tv and playable equipment. From xbox 1 S. Amazing OLED LG 65" and samsung hdr 4k player
Does anyone use this? It's kinda cool I use it to get a better contrast ratio. Since we don't get screen modes like Samsung does. Been doing it since my g3
Sad ? First of all you should know the difference between amoled and LCD .
An amoled while delivers punchy vibrant colors is actually unreal or artificial colors.
LCD is not punchy but produce Real life colors almost.
Red is red and blue is blue .
Gotta doubt ? Try taking pics of some fruits mixed together and compare them in 2k amoled and 2k LCD.
And for original clarity of display the display brightness should be around 50%.

I have the oneplus 3t and purchased a G6 from eglobal. Excellent service and price. I must say I was also disappointed with the G6 screen the whites are so cool they look blue. I tried changing the colour temperature in the visual settings but couldn't find any srgb mode like I have on the 3t. Brightness is also not great. I sold it on as for me the lcd was just not very nice to look at which is a shame tbh. Hoping the v30 will use a better screen.
Coming from S7 Edge, I must say the LG G6 screen is quite poor ( I still have the S7E). People here bragging about it being an LCD display, true color renditions, and HDR, doesn't know enough to judge the displays. Well, I have a Mi 5 and also compared the iPhone 7 display to the LG 6 ( Both Mi 5 and iPhone 7 has LCD displays) and unfortunately, g6's display was not impressive at all. Not deep enough blacks ( Again comparing only to other LCD's and not to an AMOLED screen), not bright enough(Even indoors, I keep it around 60 plus percent for a satisfactory brightness), not sharp enough ( The text looks pale and not so sharp) and the viewing angles are terrible. I am of course not in any way expecting the G6 to compete with the Samsung AMOLED displays, but G6 being 2017 flagship from LG, should be good enough to compete with at least the Xiaomi Mi 5 if not an iPhone 7.
I bought it for a few reasons,
1) Design and look ( Looks pretty sleek and neat)
2) Got it for a really cheap deal
3) Love the wide angle camera
I had a really tough time maintaining my S7E. It does not have a proper tempered glass due to its edge display and that's the main reason I wanted to switch to another phone so that I can avoid the head ache of changing the tempered glass every month and also my S7E display cracked even with a tempered glass on ( Though it's pretty usable and used it in that same condition for about 6 months). So thought it's not worth getting the display replaced as it seems too fragile and I did not find any other phone to switch to(Not a fan of iPhones), so have temporarily switched to the G6. I think I will switch to Pixel 2 as soon as its launched ( Hate the present pixel for those ugly big chins)
So yeah the G6 display is a very mediocre and definitely not something you should buy the phone for.

Well this is a stupid assumption because me for example, reviews Monitors for Companies like Yamakasi, Catleap, Samsung, Dell. I had around 15 different Monitors in the last four years (21:9,4K,WQHD,IPS,TN,244 Hz,3D,PLS,G-Sync,Freesync, pretty much everything). And i can tell you from a standpoint where facts matter, the Amoled Smartphone displays are total crap. Amoled has nicer blacks because it doesn't require to power black pixels, in other words, black means off. But the over saturation is completely unrealistic and extremely annoying when taking pictures on your Smartphone and then transfering them to your PC suddenly noticing the Image is way less colorfull and saturated on a Eizo calibrated Eizo Foris. This is nuts. And if you find IPS Panels White color too cool, then you must know that Witebalance is increased with brightness. Whites may look whiter, but if you over expose greys become white too, thats why IPS displays look a bit cooler, because otherwise you would have a solid block of white instead of a nice dynamic range.
Im coming from a Galaxy Note 4 and, guys. This Display is so much better for people who actually want realistic colors and know how to use the camera properly. (eg. Tech Guys). I know many people want extreme Bass on their Headphones or over saturated displays, but it doesn't change the fact that you are loosing details or faking the output. Its simply unpleasant to the eye to have such a big amount of saturation where in reality everything looks much more natural. This stuff was cool when i was 14. Nowadays i want to reproduce everything 1:1, no matter if its Sound Quality or Display color. Professionals are much better off with the G6.

Serious the display is not good. The whites are so blue. Lets not turn this into amoled vs lcd because we all know LG, Apple/Sharp will be using Amoled in the future not lcd.
Just pick up an iPhone and compare the G6 screen and that will show how poor it is. Just hope v30 will be better.
I'm disappointed in Samsung crappy Amoled panels. My first S8+ had severly brighter upper half than bottom when viewing dark content. My second unit has white balance shift on the bottom part. Red left side green right side. I can never ever get a good Samsung panel. With the S7+ I switched phones 4 times and never got a good screen. Also Amoled whites suck it's not white like LCD. I ****ing give up on Sammy phones forever now I enjoy my G6 LCD so much more it has punch to its white and not these quality issues Samsung always has had.

Did you even read my complete post? My god, how you just want to jump all over and prove me wrong. Please read my complete post if you haven't already. I clearly said i am not comparing the G6's display to the AMOLED ones and i am a professional photographer myself and i know what it means to have a display that can render true colors. But i clearly mentioned that, when i compared this display with the Mi 5, iPhone7 and I even compared it to the Mi 6 today which all have LCD displays and not AMOLED, and unfortunately, they all render better colors ( Of course true colors), they look sharper ( In fact all those phones i mentioned doesnt even have a QHD display, they are all full HD) and over all more impressive. I am not here to win an argument, i am simply stating the facts. being a G6 owner my self, i have no reasons to prove anything against it, unless it is really true.
It really strikes me how display quality perception differs among individuals.
I'm in the process of choosing my next smartphone and, being picky on display quality, I read a lot of posts and reviews putting attention to the display topic.
Well, someone says LG G6 is an excellent display, with good luminosity, well calibrated colors and deep blacks (second only to HTC U Ultra, which looks to have one of the best LCD displays to date).
Someone else, the minority in my reading actually, are not happy and say that blacks quickly turn to grays even at little angles.
Obviously I'm puzzled, and now my only hope is that a store near me will receive a G6 soon, so I'll be able to check it out first hand.
Oneplus 3t in maximum brightness and lg g6 in maximum brightness which is brighter and better to read in the sun? I miss my oneplus two because it was mich better to read
