few questions on redmi 3s and xiaomi support for it. - Xiaomi Redmi 3s Questions & Answers

I am using a Redmi 3s international version in Australia.
My questions so far...
Earlier today I was reading that Redmi 3s has no hope of getting Nougat is this true? Apparently Xiaomi rather release Mi9 along with new devices instead of updating slightly older ones.
I am seriously considering flashing the phone with Cyanogen mod. With custom ROMs what is the success rate of flashing for a newbie like me as I have used this OS only for a few months now. Which custom ROM is better and frequently updated?
Will the Apps work like normal and will the store work like normal? Will the apps such as banking have any issues with usage and updates as the phone would be considered as rooted?
Will I be able to revert back to Official Redmi 3s ROM if the Android N is available or do I have to manually flash it back and upgrade OTA? issues with updates as as the phone is rooted? (Flashing a custom ROM! is it equal to rooting the phone?)
Last but worst case scenario is there vanilla android available for Redmi 3s I wouldn't mind using a launcher like arrow launcher?
If available will it make the device faster? Will the device still function as normal without the bloat that comes with MIUI?

Mmm... Our device is a "low perfil" phone, in most of case this kind of device dont get upgrade to newer OS version. In my case its not a problem. This is my very firt Xiaomi device and and lovely. I've had LG, Samsung's, Moto's and thats phones look "old" since a newer movil is launched. With MIUI that dont happen, MIUI Includes a lot of thing that make the phone look fresh always. Also, You can get Unlocked Bl, TWP and flash Custom Rom, although in my case I dont feel necessary at all (and I am a Crazy guy flashing any custom rom in my older device....)
If you have Custom Recovery you can go back and foward MIUI/Custom Rom. In all case you can always flash MIUI Rom's via bootloader...

Would you be able to point me in the direction of custom recovery?
Also which custom rom is good? will the app store and all the apps work or will it have a problem as the device is rooted?

Redmi 2 'starter pack'. Some questions from a new owner

Hi!
Well, its my first thread in the Redmi 2 section. I'm quite experienced with other devices (Moto G, E, Zenfone 2), but its my first Xiaomi device (well, isnt exactly 'mine'. It belongs to my girlfriend) and I have some doubts.
Firstly: The stock firmware is based in KK. Is there an official MIUI based on LP or MM? If yes, is the memory management ****ty like the Moto's? (yeah, Moto's LP and MM was terrible for 1GB RAM devices)
Secondly: For the most updated stock ROM, is there a good custom kernel? Is there need to unlock bootloader or anything else?
Thirdly: Is root easy?
And most important:
Is there advantages to use custom ROMs like CM on this device? Will I miss some features? (camera quality - like Xperia devices)
Hi! It seems to have root out of the box, there is a system app called Security, and it lets you manage root permissions. For your other questions, I don't know. One important thing with this mobile: if you are using GPS in the background (like measuring distance of a trip) there is a setting to protect the battery that cuts GPS and background data off by default after x minutes. This took me some time to figure out, and it's turned on by default on my phone, and it was quite annoying... You can find this option in the battery settings, and can add exceptions or disable it entirely, but still...

Hey @Dan_Jacques,
So I'm relatively new to it myself (only had it for about a month), but have been heavily playing with it ever since. Here's what I've learned so far:
There's no official "stable" LP or MM MIUI ROM for the Redmi 2, but you can find official "developer" ROMs here. Keep in mind you have to find out your variation and see whether yours is a "Prime/Pro" or regular Redmi 2, and choose the ROM accordingly. The Prime/Pro dev ROMs are 5.1 (LP) based. Not clear whether the Prime/Pro ROMs work on regular Redmi 2.
You can also find the latest MIUI 8 developer ROMs on this thread from Xiaomi.eu.
I got sick of MIUI after giving it a good go, and have been happily running on official CyanogenMod 13 Nightlies for a couple of weeks now. Here's the XDA thread with setup instructions, and the one for the ROM development, so you can keep tabs on it.
I have it setup with OpenGapps ARM - 6.0 - Super, customized with my own config file.
I'm still not clear [conflicting reports], but I believe 5.1 (LP) based ROMs lock your bootloader, which then has to be unlocked by Xiaomi (from this page) before you can flash a custom ROM. This has been my experience, and it's possible I'm misunderstanding something, but it was easily solved by re-flashing one of the stable 4.4 (KK) based MIUI ROMs through Fastboot (which also re-flashes the bootloader), and custom ROMs/recovery utilities flashed smoothly then.
Good luck!
Since it seems You've been Answered , I would like to add few Points , Yes Redmi 2 (prime variant) has Got LP based ROM officially , Known As MIUI 8 , which is Coming out On 16th August for Everyone [Global Stable] , whereas if you're interested you can Try Out the China Dev , and Global Dev Roms that are already available ,
Note : Redmi 2 have KitKat Based MIUI 8 , but Prime's MIUI 8 (based on LP ) can also be used ..
And We have Several Official MM as ROM , CM 13 and RR being most Notable ones ..

Thanks a lot!
After 28 days waiting for my postal service, the phone arrived yesterday. (yeah, the Brazil's postal service is a crap). My device is the 2014819 model (appears to be a 2014811 variant)
After some hours, flashed TWRP 3.0 and MIUI8 KK based custom rom with root (available here: http://forum.miuirom.com.br/index.php?threads/rom-miui-8-miui-brasil-e-miui-global-6-7-21.506/ )
The phone is snappier than Moto G 2nd Gen (MM). Much snappier! And considering the specs (similar processor, same RAM, worse filesystem - Moto uses F2FS, Xiaomi ext4), the performance difference was greater than expected. Congrats, Xiaomi.
@minusfive and @rootmaster I found intersting the different 'base' of MIUI. We has KK, LP and MM (depending the device) base for MIUI8. Obviously I had the doubt: LP MIUI8 ROM is hunger for RAM like other device ones? For who that upgraded from kitkat, are the pros greater than the cons? (again talking about Moto G: the kitkat stock ROM was blazing flash, LP and MM are slow, with a terrible RAM management). I'm intersted with the [ROM][Official MiUi8 Lollipop 5.1.1][WT86047-WT88047] THUNDER_MiUi8-6.6.30 and the Jerrica kernel before try CM. Is it a good idea?

You're right, except for the last point. The bootloader does NOT get locked on LP based MIUI ROMs. Redmi 2 bootloader is always unlocked.

Should I go for Custom Roms?

It's been more than a month since I got my lavender. Seeing so many Roms developed, I'm feeling to unlock my bootloader and flash custom Rom. What do you think?
I can already unlock bootloader but didn't. I feel custom roms development for this device isn't mature enough yet. Thinking of waiting until official TWRP and LOS are released.
Please guys, do custom roms have L1 certification for playing HD videos on Netflix ?
I think you should stay with MIUI (but this version is better) + debloating your device with this tool (you can remove everything - I already did it and installed Google apps via the playstore)
I think MIUI is more feature complete: the edge gestures amazing & tons of useful feature that are simply missing in stock android! Feel free to slap a theme on it (if you want) and there you go cheers!
I'll be sticking with MIUI until they stop updating. Then I'll switch to LineageOS or similar. By that time I expect that it will be very stable and make my phone feel like new.
I have switched to Nova Launcher though.
What are differences between the latest MIUI 10.3.5 and xiomi.eu?

Beta Xiaomi.eu ROMs are based on china dev which has latest changes and the good thing is they removed a lot of useless stuff and added Gapps as well. It's like clean version of china dev in all languages without any ads.
It's really good
i got my Redmi Note 7 (global) 3 days ago. I thought in advantage that i will go for LOS (or similar) as soon as possible. But my opinion has changed...
The most important thing in my opinion is debloating, as mentioned above. You don't need root or an unlocked bootloader btw.
In addition i use Nova Launcher Prime and the Playstore App "Notch Notifications for MIUI".
I'm very satisfied so far... MIUI definitely adds some super useful functions that i missed on my recent phones like Mi A1 with Android One.
On the other hand, the more people use and test the custom roms now, the better quality said roms will be when I want them in a year or two.

IS it worth to install custom roms?

Like the title says, is the original rom good? Or should i go custom right as i boot it 1fst time
It worth it, at least you get the notifications work correctly and shows at the top of the status bar unlike the stock rom..
My advice to you is to istall lineage only, it's the most stable rom so far.
It depends on your priorities, if you want more choice, more control on what apps are pre installed, no bloatware, and more customization options, then that's what custom roms are for. But mind that it comes with lower security, at least as long as the manufacturer updates the device. Because custom roms usually run with looser security settings and features.
does custom roms fix the touchscreen lag on the edges?
Not worth it yet. Wait till official lineage and official trwp are released. More risky to use custom roms whose source codes are not released.

as i've seen and read in the forums, the unoffical lineage rom seems to be very stable already. Which problem do you see in flashing this version now?
My bootloader is unlocked in 3 hours and i want to get rid of this EMUI crap and bloatware

You don't get updates on unofficial versions and it's not as well maintained/supported as name implies. I rather keep bootloader locked and secured, and get almost monthly updates from xiaomi. Until official TWRP and LOS are released, as stated earlier. No need to rush and deal with instability or unexpected problems. I debloat unnecessary apps using SAKI program on stock room without root. I honestly think this is the best path to go for now.
I won't install any custom roms before official TWRP support and official LineageOS ROM support comes. I'd not also unlock my phone's bootloader untill those two thing comes.

I switched to Pixel Exirience rom from the global 10.3.5 and touch latency on the edges still the same.
I don't know what custom rom users priorities are, mine definitely having a smooth and proper working device. Most roms I tested in the past simple but most used features, like the camera, were always a headache. It might make sense for a techie or geek, but for daily use I'd rather debloat MIUI for mind peace...

any of you guys installed xiaomi.eu? seems like the better version of miui IMO.

have you tried flashing another kernel?
Maybe THIS can help you with your choice.

The Evira Kernel is built into the PE, so i just updated it to the last 1.9 version and did not feel any difference.

If you just want to get rid off the bloatware, just use adb commands. No unlocking and rooting needed
If you got the 3GB/32GB variant. then lineage OS or pixel experience should save you some extra GBs of storage and free you some extra ram (MiUI 10.3.5 uses 1.6GB or something IDLE and leaves you with 20GB storage with stock apps)
It is to early. You have latest version of Android OS on your phone, and Xaomi still give us updates with some new features.
Custom Roms are still developing and have some bugs,so .. I will no rush with installing custom rom yet. Thats my opinion.
When Xaomi stop supporting us and giving us updates, after one year that is sure that will happen, than will custom ROMs will be fully developed..and can install it..
I would like to have custom rom ,and Elvira kernel, I like tweaks and mods from Magisk. But also I want to see MIUI 11 and next Xaomi updates for RN7.
As soon as I could, I unlocked my bootloader and installed AOSP (GSI).
I don't really like MIUI, it has a lot of nice features but actually I don't use most of them.
For me, it's worth.

Why redmi note 7 did not get official stuffs?

Hi guys,
I'm wondering why redmi note 7 doesn't have official stuffs. Most important is TWRP.
But it don't have pixel experience or Lineage too, the 2 most biggest rom.
I know unofficial build exist, but personally i don't really like to use them. We don't know what they did put into them, what they did.
Is there any technical explanation or just every dev bought a redmi note 7 pro? But i don't think so because the pro isn't launched worldwide.
I'm really missing an official twrp at least
smae with me bro...
there really won't be a difference between unofficial and official. the only "benefit" from official is having the download link available on the rom's official page; daily usage wise they should be identical. if anything a rebase after going official might make the rom buggier in the short term, but roms here are stable enough as they are. it's only your loss if you refuse to use working roms simply because they are unofficial, and sooner or later they will have the official status anyway.
your point about official twrp is valid though, having 3 twrps is really confusing.
Well, official TWRP isn't there but official OrangeFox recovery based on latest TWRP is there.
Also there isn't official Pixel Experience ROM but there is official AOSP Extended ROM, SybarianOS ROM, Evolution X ROM.
You just have to wait for those, which aren't has official support. As far as I know, after a week or two the official Pixel Experience ROM is coming.
Like I said up there, you have to wait. Don't be hurry-ish like that.
OrangeFox is already live, and stable, it´s way better than twrp, abour roms, just hang cus it might take some time before get lineageOs and other going official

Best Rom for 8 pro

Friends, recently i bought new One plus 8 pro. It is 1 year old. I mean released version. So i will get max. 1 year more Big upgrade.(Android12) & 1 Security update. It is not a big deal for me. That's why i need long term supported alternative Rom, such as Custom rom. My phone will be In2020 china version. I need all possible functions on rom.(stable) i will no root, cause i need baking app too. So should i stick witch China(Hos) Oneplus or go for better stable rom. Can you prefer me a good stable custom rom(less bug) for long term oTa support? & how to get back to official rom with bootloader relock?(if anything goes wrong)
I know, a lot of questions. I m doing for future proof for 4-5 years. Thank you in advance.

You can put oos on your device if it has hhydrogen os.
all custom roms have different features and customizations.
I suggest you go to the telegram channels and talk to the people there.
but if you want short answer then go for havoc rom . 4.4 version is very stable.
no rom is perfect so you’ll see what bugs there are from the group .

I believe in pixel experience rom you can lock boot loader. Talk to the dev about that .
all chats go on telegram. Find the group and join and ask away.
