Canadian "W" XAC firmware_No Carrier Bloat_No carrier splash screen or sound
Alright so I was reading the SD research and development thread over in the regular s8 forum and came across some good stuff.
You can flash the Canadian W firmware and it's pretty much just like flashing the U firmware on the S7 and s7edge. No carrier bloat, no carrier boot screen or sound, smoother as butter and fast as heck!
I flashed the W firmware XAC AP, BL, CP and CSC file. There is no user data file available with they're firmware. Everything runs just amazing, not sure if you can get wifi calling working or not. There is no VoLTE that I've seen. If you flash your carriers CSC maybe all of this stuff might work with a few adjustments. Wifi tethering works great and I'm on the ATT unlimited data plan.
The firmware can be downloaded on sammobile or updato.com. Will post a links here later when I get to a computer.
YOU MUST USE PRINCE ODIN TO FLASH THIS OR ELSE YOU WILL GET MISMATCH FIRMWARE ERROR.
Enjoy!!!
This firmware is for GSM carriers only. CDMA carriers are having troubles getting mms and some other stuff working correctly, Verizon and Sprint just a heads up.

I flashed it on ATT. Yeah you should try it, just amazingly smooth and fast, not to mention I'm at a 1 hour of screen on time and still at 91% for battery life.

It will work on TMO, I don't see why it wouldn't, we all have the same GSM U phones, even the cdma are the same minus some bands that aren't activated due to different firmware. I mean even if it didn't work as long as you use the HOME.CSC while trying it you won't lose any of your data.

It flashed well and works on S8+, but has no voLTE and WI-FI Calling which I can't do without. Tried to flash back to T-Mobile but something is very wrong it keeps some stuff from 955W firmware, still no voLTE and WIFI Calling. Will try to flash CSC_OYN instead of HOME_CSC_OYN and see how it goes.

Im going to stand by for your insight and go from there. You posted as I was about to flash

Hmm, yeah I'll wait til you find a way back on stock T-Mobile firmware. Does this firmware have the red tint fix?
As for the volte, is the setting just missing or is it not working completely?

Damn!! I'm stuck, it seems I can't go back to T-Mobile completely. In download it shows TMB for T-Mobile, in settings then about everything is ok it shows T-Mobile firmware. But the dialer, notification bar (LTE) displays as if i'm running G955W firmware. While starting or shutting down, doesn't show a white and a black T-Mobile display, and no start up tone. No voLTE setting, no WI-FI Calling, generally i can't get away from G955W.

When flashing T-Mobile firmware, are you using the regular csc file or homecsc? I believe you also need to format on flash using the option in Odin (don't hold me to that though, my memory may be a bit off.) I used to flash a ton of firmwares in my international S7 edge.

Regular CSC failed too, it takes me to as if the Phone is out of the box but doesn't change anything. Will check out that format option in Odin. I used to play with my S7 Edge a lot too, I've never seen this. I believe S8/8+ has some changes made.

I've totally failed to go back to T-Mobile fully, but the good news is I managed to get voLTE and WI-FI Calling to work. What I did is I ignored HOME_CSC_OYN and CSC_OYN, instead flashed USERDATA_TMB in Odin CSC. All T-Mobile bloatware is gone, and Smart Switch reads the phone as XAA....... not TMB, not XAC.... Weird isn't it? Let me see how it goes, feels smoother though.

Quick question...
You don't have TMO bloat... but your ROM looks like:
This (TMO):
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",

"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_share": "Share",

"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
or... something like this:
...and the HotSpot area:
How about spam protection? (under Advanced Features) (FD Variant)
I just want to know if your TMO U variant has all the INT options enabled or not. (I am not sure if Canadian XAC is similar to International Exynos ROM) Also... you mentioned VOLTE & WIFI Calling are fully operational... can you please test Video Calling? Is Video Calling also working?
Most likely the TMO data file turned off all the features... But, maybe... Not... If all 3 main TMO features are working and the ROM is similar to International Exynos Variant... Then this is definitely great news. (until root)
Thank you!

Only Video calling is missing in dialer and it was the same with S7 Edge U Firmware, the rest is as your attached 2nd, 3rd and 4th pictures and working. My access point name shows PLDT wholesale but works. So far I'm good, let me see how the day goes.

That's right, the ones I tried at first were giving a fail mismatch until i found 3.12.7 in the link below. Remember I flashed USERDATA_TMB in Odin CSC to get voLTE and WI-FI Calling.

AT&T & T-mobile now have the same bootloader version

*I originally posted this in the AT&T S7 forums unintentionally so posting here as well*
For those of you curious about running the T-mobile firmware on the AT&T version of the edge, it is now possible since they are now using the same bootloader version.
I have an AT&T S7 edge (SM-935A) and recently switched to T-mobile as my carrier. I had to unlock it first so I used the service from unlockunit. It took almost a day for the code but I was then able to pop my T-mobile SIM and sure enough, it worked. Surprisingly, WIFI calling even worked!
At this point, I really wanted to switch to the 935U firmware as I heard it has great battery life as all the carrier bloat is removed. Unfortunately, just before I switched, the recent September update from AT&T raised the bootloader to v4. I learned after the fact you have to disable the update service as it eventually will force you to update. Now I was stuck with the damn AT&T firmware!
I wanted to flash the 935U firmware but the bootloader was still at v2 and T-mobile, so I thought, was at v3. It might be helpful to have a sticky on this forum with the current bootloader versions as it took some time for me to research the following:
AT&T - v4
T-mobile - v4
Verison - v4
Sprint - v2?
Universal - v2
Yes, you read that right, T-mobile just released a new firmware (PIA) which raised their bootloader to v4! You can grab it here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-G935T/
It's the one with the date of 2016-09-27. I used the prince odin version referenced in this thread for flashing as others failed and gave sha1 errors. http://forum.xda-developers.com/veri...g930v-t3411015
If you plan to do this please research how to flash with odin and remember to back everything up! Samsung Smart Switch is a great resource for this.
I've been running on the new T-mobile firmware for just a day but already like it better than AT&T's. I didn't even know AT&T disabled some features of the S7 edge that other carriers kept. Typical for the Deathstar. Can you sense my disdain for AT&T?
For example, with the T-mobile firmware, you can control Download booster (the ability to leverage wifi and LTE simultaneously!) This option was removed from the AT&T firmware. In addition, you can set a preference to WiFi calling. With the AT&T firmware, you have no control and it will only flip to WiFI when in a weak area. It just so happens where I live the AT&T signal is weak so I was always jumping back and forth between the two and it was frustrating not being able to control it. The only way to force WiFi calling is turn on airplane mode when in a fringe area and turn WiFI back on. I'm so glad I don't have to deal with that anymore.
I'm including some screenshots which show the current firmware running on my SM-935A.
Hopefully we'll see an update to the 935U bootloader to v4 which will allow a switch to that firmware.
Thanks for the info.

no sorry im not clear on what im asking lol. im on (U)firmware but i cant send mms and my ims is not registered. if i go back to (A)firmware everything works fine. so the question is first do you have an origianl att phone? and second if so when you flashed the u firm ware did your mms work or did you alter something to get mms working.
My question is if i remain on att and run the tmobile firmware will the wifi calling work?

Also, is the root method the same and does it still work with new v4 bootloader?

oh ok you arent rooted thats the big missing link lol , im rooted on att variant but have u firmware. sorry thought you were rooted and on u firmware.
So, it sounds like you're saying we can use ATT WIFI Calling after flashing the G930T firmware? Is there anything you lose from G930T? HD Calling for example? Anything else?
Edit: I said 930 because I followed a link here from the 930 forums - I assume it would be the same for the 935, but I'd like to know how it worked on the 935 too.
What are the benefits with the TMOBILE firmware?

It has been written elsewhere that AT&T requires 1) proprietary code [read: ATT ROM] and 2) AT&T-branded phones (IMEI they recognize, also includes some non-ATT such as iPhone/HTC) for advanced calling features to work.
I would bet that VoLTE, WiFi calling, video calling, advanced messaging, etc. do not work with the T-Mo ROM.
On the other hand T-Mo uses more standard VoLTE protocols, etc., so phones like Nexus 6P, 5X, etc. work with VoLTE and WiFi calling just fine on T-Mo.
A bit of history: Even people who got ATT-branded Nexus 6 do not get VoLTE because Google later standardized the N6 ROM therefore without ATT's evil code (and bloat).
ATT has quickly surpassed VZ as the new Evil Empire.

Where did you find the solution, I've tried a couple different versions of odin and no luck. Also, should I be using the "CSC" or "HOME_CSC" in the CSC box?
EDIT: Also figured it out. search for "Verizon S7 / S7 Edge [Root Guide] SM-G930V SM-G935V [NO KNOX TRIP]" in xda to find the correct ODIN version for this.
and the correct file to use in the CSC field is "CSC" even though ODIN says to use the "HOME_CSC"
Do I need to enable OEM unlock?

ATT is not my carrier, I carrier unlocked the phone and have only used the phone with a Tmobile SIM. I flashed the U firmware and the Tmobile modem firmware on it and I have seen better reception then when I had the ATT firmware installed opposed to the U firmware with the Tmobile Modem. VOLTE is not stated on the signal but the quality is the same as VoLTE of course there would need to be testing done on my end to prove if it is indeed working as VoLTE. Any suggestions? Would love to contribute with this.
EDIT: Unless of course you were asking if VoLTE was working with ATT on the ufirmware and if this is just ATT specific and if it is the case then my post wouldn't have much addition to the thread.

Samsung Pay Works but Wifi Calling and Video Calling Does Not
this odin writes to userdata? So it allows full carrier switch? That's huge if true
so how does this work when its time to get an ota update? do you need to flash back to att and then flash to the unlocked equivalent or can you just take unlocked ota's to update the phone?

You do not have to ODIN back. It will update normally. It was pulled from a US Cellular Device which was sold unlocked. I have the Canada version also with the built in Caller ID to identify unknown numbers with the Samsung Smart Call feature. and you do not have to program the APN. yep there's a slot for that
I have a Sprint S8+
Have tried flashing over it with this ROM and a Verizon ROM.
Both flash worked completely n ODIN but when the phone reboots, it is still Sprint.
I have seen other posts with same problem.
Am I doing something wrong?
I have tried both Home CSC and Non-Home CSC and the Userdata file was in UMS field in ODIN.

I have not tried it on Sprint or Verizon I know it works on AT&T. i have ran both firmwares on My AT&T S8+ With no issues
As stated using the proper ODIN is important

I have the Verizon variant and downloaded the Canadian version, and flashed that over completely the regular CSC, not the home_CSC. This was using the prince comsey or whatever version of Odin, and I let it reboot after. During the setup I did the same thing the other guy mentioned where you only set a pin, and select yes to boot the device with your pin. Once I got through the setup I turned on dev mode, and flashed my stock FW, which was Verizon. I selected all files and chose the home_csc from the Verizon package along with the VZW AP, BL and CP files.
Flashed them all over and let the device reboot. Once it turned on it took a minute or so to get LTE and service in general but it worked.

Thanks so much for this! Just for clarification the Unlocked US Cellular version does not have Smart Call only the Canadian version does or am I reading it wrong? Just trying to figure out the difference and which one would be best for my G955U.
Thanks!

The Canadian one is the one with Smart Call
So this makes an att phone unlocked to any carrier?
So it makes it be just like this :

Same thing happened to me. Successfully flashed but when it boots it still is an AT&T. I have the AT&T version and tried the home csc. Everything passes but it doesn't work for me. Weird
I'm on AT&T and wondering which one is better to flash. Is the only difference between us unlocked and canada firmwares the smart call feature?

Just an update but I tried the Canadian one on my device using the home.csc. Notice it does not have a UMS. It worked! The Canadian version is super clean! I am on AT&T, besides for the known things like wifi calling. Are we missing anything by not using the US Cellular version?
Thanks again, it just seems like the US cellular version wouldn't take for me but I am now happy and bloatware free.

They both will work the same. On the US Cellular version I think you have to program the APN and it does not have the smart call feature. The Canadian version does

yes the smart call feature is the only difference is the smart call feature. there is no need to install 3rd party software to get caller Id for unknowns and it still detects spam

Using Verizon note 3 on Tracfone (att mvno)

I just bought a used Verizon note 3 at a great price, and I want to use it on Tracfone's att network. And I have a few questions.
But first, please know that I have tried to read up about this but am still confused so please go easy on me. Also, why did I get a Verizon phone to use on an att mvno? Att note 3's have locked bootloader. T-mobile note 3's are sim locked. Verizon note 3's are factory unlocked and the bootloader is unlockable. Plus, as I said, I got a great deal.
So, I understand that, once the bootloader is unlocked, I can run Roms for the international LTE model (n9005), the att model (n900a) and the t-mobile model (n900t). I understand that I would need to use the hlte recovery and not the hltevzw recovery to install those ROMs. My question is if I do that, will I have any problems using the phone on Tracfone with SMS, MMS, calling, etc.? Will I get LTE?
What are the steps to getting this to work? Do I need to install a Verizon model kernel? Or can I freely install kernels for other models? What about modems? Do I need to flash hlte modems or Verizon modems? I do not need Verizon service.
Any help would be much appreciated. And please let me know if any of my understanding above is mistaken. Thanks.
after bl unlock.
hlte not hltevzw twrp, rom of choice(not all i tried worked), kernel made for hltevzw, boot and set up, edit apns to you network specs, may have to change preffered network type in settings and/or radio settings. Had wonderful luck with resurrection remix and aryamod roms battery and stability wise. awesome pool of devs still cranking out top notch stuff for note 3. good luck.
might want to update modem from latest stock firmware or odin zip before bothering the rom process.
some roms specify twrp for hlte or hltevzw and diff versions. keep that in mind.

Thank you! By updating modem, I assume you mean Verizon modems. So I shouldn't try att modems, right? I also read a thread about enabling band 4 LTE for t-mobile. It looked like I needed to go into service mode to do that. Will I need to do that as well? Or is that not applicable if I'm on an international ROM? Also, what would happen if I tried international Qualcomm model kernels?
not sure about opening up lte bands for tmobile. i use att prepaid on my 900v until screen pooped out on me few days ago. yes to verizon modems. the rom won't matter in regards to LTE you only get what bands your phone is capable of getting based on what network you're using and the bands that they use. i never had to tweak bands for att service. i got good enough signal. trying kernels not meant for you particular model will result in you getting real familiar using odin to flash full factory firmware packages. Dont do it. lol.

Is there any reason to prefer a rom designed for 900v if I am not going to use verizon service? Will it be more stable or have less bugs? Could you also point me to some 900v kernels? I have been looking but I'm struggling a little bit. Thanks.
ROMs for the Verizon model will work better for Verizon service. If you're looking at AOSP ROMs you can Google search xenial kermel, or lss kernel, or idle kernel. idle and lss have touchwiz kernels as well. you can also look at phantom kernel for touchwiz.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3/orig-development
here is a good starting place for kernels. check each one for 900v support. check vzw note 3 forum too. it took me a bit to get use to vzw applicable stuff not being in vzw forum. but like i said the n3 is still very active in development and options are numerous. read, read, read. try, test, try, test. find what works best for you and your device.

Thanks again. I was surprised that there isn't a single kernel thread in the Verizon dev forums. I guess all the Dev's moved on while the bootloader was still locked. So, what you're saying is that I need to check international Qualcomm kernel threads for Verizon compatibility, right? That's really helpful.
The state of the Verizon note 3 forum is really sad. I've had many devices that are older and lower end and have always found active and helpful development threads in these forums. Here, the FAQ's and guides are outdated, and the development section is like a ghost town. I guess that's what happens when a carrier decides to lock the bootloader.

Correct. vzw forum is a bit lonely but thankfully other roms work. and work well. ill be replacing the screen on my n3 whenbi have extra cash. I honestly like it more than the sprint note 4 im using. my wife has a sprint note 5. love the innards phone is a beast, but minimal development other than moar rom and i dont feel comfortable carrying that thing around. ill break it way too quick.

Did you have the problem of the incoming caller numbers being prefixed with a "+" so that the phone mistakes the first few digits as an international area code? I have that problem and read that it happens on Verizon phones on the att network. I also read that the prefixer app can help fix that but it hasn't worked for me. Do you have any suggestions?

I have not run into that problem at all on custom roms. Is it occuring on stock rom ? i left touchwiz on my note 3 only long enough to charge battery to full for flashing and bl unlock, twrp, and root.. I'm sorry to keep bugging you but I'm having some serious problems, and it seems you are the only one running a verizon note 3 on att. I had that problem with the incoming call having the "+" before the number, until I flashed the international n9005 version of darklord reborn. Now the incoming caller number works fine but mms is not working. Do you have mms working on att? SMS works fine, but mms fails to download. I am, of course, not on att, but an att mvno: Tracfone. MMS is working fine when I put the sim in another phone. I've checked the APN and data works fine but MMS doesn't. Any help? The people in the thread say that MMS is working just fine, but I assume they are running it on an n9005 and not n900v like we are, which is probably the issue.

I'm sorry if that came off rude. I am just a little frustrated. But I think you may have misunderstood what I was saying. I was saying that the verizon specific forums do not have a whole lot of activity. As PlanetZ said, there is still a lot that's being developed for the verizon model, but we need to search and read all over the place. I am not knocking the devs or anything. Just commenting on the state of the forum.

I would try adding MMS to the APN type.. you can try changing the MMS port from 80 to 8080.. ive had to do that for att before and tracphone apn seem to mirror att apns for most part. or if you cant get it working on darklord rom try this aryamod rom..

I had zero issues with it and as far a touchwiz rom goes its smooth. or try any rom the NX team puts out. Hope this helps

thats weird. did you have all roaming options turned on ? domestic and global ?
Edit: so your problem intrigued me and I did some reading I still am seems to be an issue across the board for multiple users of multiple devices of multiple ROMs with no clear fix as simple as flashing something or wiping device and reinstall... I'm going to keep researching it and see if I can't help you find a solution for the meantime you may try this app to remove the plus sign in front of incoming and outgoing calls report back and let me know if it helped...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tftbelow.prefixer
Open Prefixer
Hit the check mark to turn Prefixer "on" - to make it active
Add a rule - choose "Manual Add"
Choose for "Outgoing Calls"
Rule Enabled: Check
Title: "Take Out the plus sign"
When the number matches: .* (that means every call)
During Days: Mon-Sun
From Time: 00:00
To Time: 23:59 (yours may be a bit different; I have my phone set for 24 hour time)
Actions: Remove Characters: \+
That's all. Make sure that the rule is enabled, and that Prefixer is enabled.
or try
Open Prefixer
At the top right click on "Incoming Calls" tab.
Click "Add Rule" icon, (the circular icon with PLUS inside it on Bottom Left Corner)
In the dialog box that pops up, click on "Manual" Button
Rule Enabled:*ON
Title:*Fix Incoming plus (+) prefix
When the number matches: "\+.*" (without the double quotes) (means every call that comes in with + prefix)
Actions: Remove Characters: "\+" (without the double quotes) (remove the + prefix)
Add Number to call log:*Prefixed number*(save the manipulated number in the call log)
I have not used that prefixer app at all and those setup instructions are copy and paste from other forums of users having same issues.

It says still updating...but will do...I'm just not finished yet...that's why is says at the bottom to pm me and still adding thanks tomorrow...and samfirm will download the ATT files...also I did not host the ATT firmware as it is still directing to your link...if I host files I find them myself...you can also purchase a subscription to other VIP hosting sites and download the ATT firmware...I just haven't bit the bullet...and I have pointed several people to your same link....in various posts...in no way did I take credit for it...not to mention that you yourself have no mention of where you got it, unless you developed it yourself...lol....I will be hosting AT&T firmware that I get myself though...thanks for the pm...I appreciate it... I'll be sure to give you credit as "and others" in the guide...
Please if anyone feels that they should be mentioned...pm me...it takes a while to create a thread that is semi-professional and not just a single link...and I may leave things out unintentionally...a pm will allow for edits quietly and professionally...please enjoy and I do not require credit because all we are doing is sharing and contributing for the sake of enjoying our Note...

Someone said to add fota to apn using shortcut master lite to get OTA from ATT if you don't get OTA updates normally...but yeah if all is stock and working cohesively you should get OTA from them. If you are on unlocked and you just flashed csc and USERDATA files you may still get from Samsung...you just got ATT to whitelist the imei...
Some of the unlocked updates have came from carriers...though (it's kind of odd I looked at where my SPR SM-N950U1 came from and it was the same server that the Sprint s8+ updates came from...then I went back to just XAA and checked for the XAA SM-N950U1 and it was a Samsung server...so you may be getting ATT no matter what once your imei is rightfully registered...

I've read the combanation file is need to "carrier switch" but none of the combanation files seem like they go with the latest pie firmware? And help and or pointing in the right direction would be greatly appreciated
My Note 8 was purchased from ATT, then I unlocked it using a service, then I switched to T Mobile years later. When I switched to T Mobile, the firmware updated itself to T Mobile after I booted with a T Mobile SIM.
Now, I am trying to flash it to U1_XAA so that I can gift it to someone in China. However, after factory resets, even from the recovery menu, it fails almost immediately during flashing. Would you please guide me on how to get this flashed to U1_XAA? Or is it ok just to leave it the way it is (U_TMB) and send it out?
Thank you!
P.S. this is with Android Pie, since I got the update while I was still on ATT. I tried flashing with the patched Odin as well, same thing...
