Using LG G6 US997 on Sprint - LG G6 Questions and Answers

Hello,
I recently received an LG G6 model # US997 and have been trying to activate it on Sprint.
Sprint Customer Service and retail employees are unable to add the IMEI to their system/inventory.
I've been told even though the phone supports the Sprint LTE, band 25 it will not work on the Sprint network.
My questions:
-Is this true or just a lie so they don't have to deal with a technical issue?
-Would swapping the modem stack allow me to activate on Sprint or no?
-Do I have any course of action or do I have a beautiful paperweight?
Thanks for the help!

[Q] Sprint to AT&T?

Hello Guys,
What's up? I was wondering if I could buy a sprint LG G2 and can use it for my ATT carrier with unofficial unlock. Pls let me know everything works on sprint LG G2! (4G, ESN etc) Thanks in advance.
Even if Sprint "officially" unlocks your LG G2, it won't work with domestic GSM carriers like AT&T or TMobile. It will work unlocked with international SIM cards and international networks.
So, no.

[Q] Lost Phone, Can I use Sprint LG G2 On verizon?

I had a little too much fun on new years eve .. I set my Verizon LG G2 down on a table and apparently either I left it or it was stolen .. I probably left it hahaha..
Now i'm trying to get another one .. I really loved the phone...
I'm scouring eBay ..
I'm in a 2 year contract with verizon ..... but, I wanted to know ... Can I use a Sprint based LG G2 on the verizon network ? Will I still get verizon LTE ?
Same thing with T-mobile versions ? Can I get all the bands and function I did out of my verizon LG G2 ?
Thanks for the heads up guys.
I know that the Verizon one can use Sprint, but I am not sure about the other war around. I think the global one works on Verizon's LTE band, although I am not sure an that either. If you can afford it, get the Verizon model (VS980) off contract. You can check the bands and other specs on phone arena.
The T-Mobile one seems to share frequencies of Verizon's though.
Hope I helped.
Verizon and Sprint are CDMA carriers and run on compatible CDMA frequencies and technologies (1xRTT, EvDO) and both their branded phones can roam on/off each other's network for both voice and data.
Having said that, the fact that they're primarily CDMA carriers means that you cannot just bring a phone onto their respective networks. The ESN/MEID of the phone has to already be in their database for them to activate.
So, taking a Sprint LG G2 and walking into a Verizon store or calling Verizon to activate it will get you a big fat NO, and vice versa.
Is it technically possible? Of course.
Worth the effort/hassle? No.
T-Mobile is a GSM carrier, no CDMA, so that's out of the question, same with AT&T, or any GSM variant of the G2.
Get a Verizon LG G2. Just keep looking carefully and you'll find a good deal.
I got my Sprint LG G2 mint in box for 325, clean ESN, no funny business. Love it to bits.
You can use Sprint LG G2 on Tmobile, takes about 20 minutes

In response to this assessment I have to correct these "facts"
You CAN use Tmobile's network on Sprint LG G2 Variant. See Younggunners forum on Sprint-Tmobile rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2639165
I am currently getting 4G speeds at around 14 mb on the down and 4 on the up, very workable.
I can attest that it works; I have also performed the flash on other sprint LG G2 LS980 Variants as well.
I am using Justin's rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2639165&page=11,
It's an awesome stock experience!

I think you missed what he was saying. He was saying that the T-Mobile and ATT variants do not support any CDMA so they will not work at all. The sprint variant supports Verizon CDMA but verizon will not activate a sprint device on their network. In any case the sprint device does not support Verizon LTE bands. Even if Verizon activated a sprint g2 on their network it would be 3G only.

[Q] Could you use an T-Mobile or U.S. Cellular Varient of the LG G2 on Verizon.

Hello, I've been searching for the answer everywhere and can't seem to find it. I have two options, my first option is to buy an LG G2 with an broken screen for $70 and repair it for my person use. The catch is its T-Mobile, could I unlock the phone and use it with Verizon? My second option is that my friend has an LG G2 from US Cellular and is willing to mail it to me, is it any way of unlocking it to Verizon?

unlocked Lg g6 model 997

Hi. A Verizon agent told me that if I use an unlocked Lg G6 like model 997, certain features will not work like visual voicemail, VM notifications, cloud features etc.
Are any of you having trouble with Verizon features when you use the unlocked Lg G6. The model for Verizon is VS988 and is quite expensive.
The price for US997 seems to be better than Verizon locked phone. But I am afraid that important features may not work if using unlocked.
Also I heard the IMEI number of digits is 14 for unlocked and Verizon customer service will not activate these models.
Any advice , suggestions? Thanks

Doesn't matter if it's "unlocked", other carriers have their rules for what they allow on their networks. Most AT&T phones don't have CDMA, and Sprint, Verizon (for now) still uses CDMA.
On non-branded phones you won't get VoLTE from most carriers (T-Mobile is the exception) and without VoLTE you would need to temporarily drop down to CDMA for voice calls on Sprint and Verizon.
Even on phones that have CDMA, like the LG V30 US998, Verizon still wants you to buy their branded phones -- because end of this year when CDMA goes away, those phone still won't have VoLTE. So in a few months those phones won't be able to make phone calls. I have two relatives with LG V30/V30+ US998 on Verizon. Don't ask how, there are ways. But even of 2020 they will need new phones when Verizon kills CDMA and they can't get VoLTE on non-Verizon phones.

As an owner of an AT&T v35 I can tell you it will work nicely on the Verizon network including VoLTE and VoWIFI. You do have to jump through a few hurdles. You will need a SIM activated on the Verizon network. That may mean buying a new phone from Verizon. You also need to SIM unlock the v35 by buying a code from a site like codes2unlock.com. You may also need to cross flash to the NA rom. These things should be done in that order, and there is no going back to an AT&T rom afterwards.

Chazz, can you clarify this? I have a US998 v30s running on Verizon with VoLTE. It was my understanding that it will not be affected by shutdown of cdma by Verizon. I like the phone and want to continue using it.

My brother-in-law found Verizon store rep willing to break the rules for he and my sister's USS98 V30+ (converted from Sprint LS998). They switched from AT&T to Verizon.
This guy said "Verizon wants you to buy their phones, of course. They'll tell you this phone (US998) won't work, but it will." He activated two SIM cards and put them in their US998.
He said "If you have any issues, ONLY see me here at this store. Don't talk to any other reps about this." Wink, wink, nudge, nudge. (Monty Python reference.)
My brother-in-law and sister don't have V35 on Verizon, but you probably have VoLTE because you enabled VoLTE on another phone (Droid Turbo)? I don't know if they have Verizon VoLTE on US998 V30+, but I assumed they didn't...

If you have Verizon VoLTE now, then nothing will change.
I assumed my brother-in-law and sister don't have VoLTE and are temporarily dropping to CDMA for phone calls. But I have no way of easily checking. Neither would know what "VoLTE" is nor "CDMA".
I merely told them their US998 phones were carrier unlocked and would work on Verizon -- if they got already-activated SIM cards. My brother-in-law used his considerable sales skills and found a helpful rep.
thanks a ton @chazz for the clarification. i have already move to AMZ 9.0 which looked to be pure android. was not able to get NAO due to error(sha256 auth error). AMZ was the only one that worked from multiple different firmwares(lgfirmware /sammobile) from us region and it works awesome.
For the verizon sim card, can i buy flip phone or a throw away verizon smart phone with the activated sim card and use it with the v35. similarly can you use the approach for sprint?
Again your response is much appreciated.
You should consider features you want to have on your account when buying the phone from Verizon. Some can be toggled through the the settings menu on the v35 like Advanced Calling for VoLTE, but others can't like visual voice mail. Ask to have them activated when you buy the phone. Keep that Verizon phone, you may have to get help in the future from Verizon and it will come in handy! They won't be impressed with the v35.
I don't have proof of it and am not in a position to test, but I suspect you cannot activate a Sprint sim on a Sprint phone and then move to the v35. My understanding from reading about the open market ULM and AT&T branded v35 is that Sprint maintains an IMEI whitelist. Sprint only allows Sprint branded phones on their network. This is why the ULM model is preferred for Google FI.
Please post what you learn so others can benefit.
