LG G6 heating up - LG G6 Questions and Answers

I see the camera lens gets heated up after taking 5 to 6 snaps continuously. Also after using google maps & downloading some apps from play store, i see back side of the phone gets heated (not very extensive CPU operation).
Did anyone face similar issues?

Under heavy use this phone has to be the "coolest" running phone I've had in a long time. Even charging it gets warm, but not hot.
The phone getting warmer is normal with use, the camera is mostly software so it is CPU heavy.
If it's getting "hot" there's an issue. Remove the case if you have one on. See if that makes a difference.

i am having the same issue. did you find a solution to this yet?

Mine seems to be getting really warm too, after using it for a bit. I installed a temp monitoring app and my battery and you both go between 78-96f. Is that normal for this phone, or is it something that I should get an exchange over?

35C (or 96F) is nothing to worry about. That's actually cool compared to most other phones.

Good to know! It's been a long time since I've even thought about phone temps, let alone notice mine change.

my set hit 50c with light usage.. not sure what happen.
Camera app also use up alot of power

Mine got heated initially for the first 2-3 days, and then it's been absolutely fine after that. I have the Indian Variant in case that helps.

Mine only rose 10F after using the camera for a little while. Went from 78F to 88F. I recorded video, took a ton of photos repeatedly.
Just for comparison, after about 45 mins of gaming it tops out at 96-97F.

My G6 is also heating up. Every time it heats up, I open the Battery Usage and stop "Media", just this one act makes the phone very cold in 2 minutes as if I have not used it for long time. What is this Media? how can I stop it automatically?

Sounds like you have a rogue app. I don't think I've ever seen my media do that.

How to know what this app is? I can't find this kind of app in Battery usage and also in AccuBattery app.
Sent from my LG-H870DS using Tapatalk

If you disabled any apps you need to go back and clear data and force stop them. Also force stop android system. If yiu don't use smart settings clear it's data and force stop as well as myplaces and myplaces engine.
---------- Post added at 04:15 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:12 AM ----------
Also go to media storage and clear it's data. Then you will need to rescan the media using a media scanning app(not sure if it requires root), if so just reboot. You'll have to reset your ringtones and what not but might help stop it from scanning constantly. How big is your sdcard and how many files are on it?

Heating up and poor battery life
I got a 870ds. I noticed some heating up everytime the screen is on... Whatever app i use or whatever i do. The battery is getting down the same time and i'm struggling to finish à day of normal usage.... Anyone has an idea of what can cause such issues?Thx a lot

when i accidentally click on a 3rd party camera app like Open Camera and don't know it it gets real hot real fast. I don't know why it is. the stock camera never gets that hot even with shooting tons of video at the concert the other night.

mine was getting warm sometimes but found it to be problem with apps/task running in background incorrectly (Greenify was my issue), uninstalled and phone remains cool even under quite heavy use.

Hi Jostian
An how i could find out wich Apps and tasks are running in teh backround incorrectly?

I would say maybe install something like Greenify..

I dont know how much will this affect, but I think using 3G/4G instead of wifi also makes the device get warm / hot faster..

I have no problems at all. Phone stays cool all the time, even when playing games

Overheating

This thing gets hot! Just been configuring launcher pro which took around 5 minutes and wasn't data intensive and the back of the phone is really hot. So much that I can smell the plastic heating up! The battery drained real fast during the process too.
Anyone else experiencing this ?
Well that doesn't sound good! I haven't had anything like that. Have you checked the power intake?

I have the exact same problem, it happens especially when I play any games or intensive appliaction. The battery drains and it gets hot next to the camera, I suspect this is where the cpu lives. Do you think its because its rooted? because I rooted it as soon as I got it so I dont know what it was like before.
And as I am away from the uk for the next six weeks I cant even send it back to O2
No nothing to do with root, mine was same before and after, pretty normal to get hot on some demanding apps.

And i thought i was alone...
It gets really hot sometimes though, not to the extent of burnt plastic smell but it gets pretty uncomfortable touching around lens at the back.
I've been going through this this morning. It seems that the CPU loves to go up to 1.2GHz even if it doesn't need to be that high (and it stays there). Also there I've also been noticing through ADB shell that their are a few niggles. For example the wi-fi sharing process can start without even being activated.
For example this was a ADB shell top taken while running Cordy downclocked to 800MHz in setcpu. The phone was a tiny bit warm but only by the camera (where the CPU is). Basically, this just shows that if you are playing a game, nothing else is going on so the CPU shouldn't be going up to 1200MHz. And it plays the same as when it isn't underclocked.
I'm currently assisting Pulser with investigating this until he gets his SGS2.

My phone gets very hot at time too...
I also noticed wifi sharing starting up by itself. Yesterday it started by itself and used 10% battery usage even though I had wifi switched off the entire time..

Do you have root and Titanium/MyBackup Pro?
If you do, freeze anything that mentions wifi sharing, unless you are going to use wifi hotspot and kies air a lot.

My phone got so hot that it shut itself down!
since that i have done a complete reset of the phone and started from scratch again....100% better.
The problem as i see it is with all the 'tinkering' that we users do. All the additional launchers etc and widgets that you add really seem to mess the phone up!
My advice is keep the phone as samsung intended it...or at least change very little. You will see far improved battery life and none of the over heating problems.
Just my opinion but its worked for me.

Find the nearest Apple store near you.
The only time i had this was when it waa both charging, in a case and playing a big game...
Im currently chatting, listening to a live stream, charging and posting this, no problem with heat at all..
Perhaps its a problem with some specific phones

that's just not true.
Mine gets hot aswell .. it's random sometimes but usualy with playing games etc. I suspect it has something to do with the samsung drivers/software and not our tinkering.
Bugs bugs bugs...
Mine also gets fairly hot, which might be a little uncomfortable - but that's the sacrifice you make when you get such a high powered device in such a small space.
Well, amount of apps/tinkering/etc has nothing to do with the phone getting got UNLESS an installed app in messing something up.I have heard many such cases when a rogue app made the CPU run at 100% in different phones. If that's the case you have to find and remove the app.I'd suggest OS monitor for finding it.Never happened to me though!
What's more,it's normal for it to get more hot than your average phone,as it carries more power under the hood and has nothing to help it dissipate the generated heat,as it's plastic. The Desire HD does a very good job with managing heat and I have never exceeded 40 C,even when gaming with an overclock at 1.8GHz and performance governor. Not saying the DHD is better, but Samsung wouldn't have left something like this if it would damage the phone. So I tend to believe that it's designed to get hot.
Mine has overheated twice.
Both times, when trying to pair itself automatically to my car kit. The phone got really really hot (i noticed it warming my leg in my jeans pocket) and needed the battery pulling out to reset it. When it started back up, the running temp was nearly 50 degrees (in standby, it runs at about 27)
Hasn't done it since though, just keeping my eye on it!

Ridiculous battery drain on standby

It seems that the battery drain on my newest N7 (RMA'd first one) is waay worse than on the other, I'll attach some screen shots of what I mean.. it may be just the WiFi is using a lot more than the other's :S I left it 4 hours alone with WiFi and the battery drained 20+ % which even with WiFi on seems excessive does it not? Is it possible I got one with a faulty WiFi radio? I will be testing tomorrow (or maybe tonight) to see battery drain with WiFi turned off to compare, because it also seemed to drain fast when I was just out and about with WiFi off :/ worried I have bad battery, deep sleep isn't working right (it is going into deep sleep or at least thinks it is from looking at cpuspy), or faulty WiFi... or just too early to judge XD has anyone noticed battery improve over time ? I forget if I did was a month ago I got the original
BTW first screen shot was taken pretty much right as I was leaving for work, so you can compare the battery drain there..
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I doubt it's a bad wifi radio, its probably an app that is syncing like crazy in the background.
I'm currently watching the MediaServer app use a disproportionate amount of battery (14% and rising). I deleted a number of images which must of kicked in the scanner which must be very inefficient.
I also noticed my N7 become very slow at the same time.
Possibly you downloaded a large amount of images/music/etc before putting your device to sleep...

I really wish I could figure out why maps keeps starting a process.. can you check to see how many instances of maps there are ? In particular one running Prefetcherservice.. as for the other comment, media server is sitting at 6%, android is at 14%, and screen at 67%.. though I did copy a bunch of songs and pictures over after the RMA, is there a way to fix these or should I delete them to see if it gets better ?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Sigh, I might just have a bad battery, or preferably poorly calibrated, since another hour of use, just browsing and such, and I'm down 20% more -_- hope I don't have to RMA again

Bahaha good one I dunno, the problem is that this is literally my fourth N7 since the other three allll suffered from major screen lifting, so maybe I am looking for something wrong just so i can make sure it's perfect... Though I do think the battery life is pretty weak, I think I may have figured SOMETHING out, the only difference between this and my original is that my original had a huge section of the map of my area downloaded, and since I did that maps hasn't started any additional processes.. so good sign ? maybe ? haha

Yeah this might be a good time to stop looking for trouble and just enjoy the tablet for a while. I drop mine on the charger in the morning and don't ever really think about the battery other than that. Whatever the battery stats say now they won't say in a week and they won't say after you flash to a different ROM. If you have wifi on apps will sync and the tablet will loose it's charge. I'm never far enough away from an outlet to make it much of a concern. So maybe just take a breather, install the Angry Birds and have some fun for a bit. Eventually we'll have ROM's and kernels that make this thing sip electricity but for now I get the few hours a day I need out of it on one charge so I'm set.

You think the battery life will get much better than what it is? My only other android experience is my HTC Desire Z which has a horrible battery as it is so it didn't improve much at all with custom roms
Speaking of improved life through ROMs and kernels, have you noticed any kernel providing particularly better battery life ? I'm on trinity right now, no voltage changing, but underclocked to 1.1 ghz from 1.3
Factory reset, see if the problem continues. That's the only way decide if it's a HW problem.
And my N7 uses effectively 0% battery in standby, it was off the charger yesterday for 6 hours and when I started playing around it was still at 99%. I turn off wifi on screen off, however.
Use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809 to find out what's waking up your phone, the apk is in the second post. Install, charge it up, unplug, leave for 4 hours idle then look at partial wakelocks and alarms.
I saved quite a bit of standby time by disabling location services and Facebook.
If your not using nfc that could save battery?

So it seems like partial wakelock is mostly audioout_2 which i assume comes from me playing a game with music amongst other things?
Alarms says com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox has 50 wakeups, and maps has 38 :S why does maps keep trying to kill me?! and what is the googlequicksearchbox doing waking the tablet up...
Wlan_Rx_wake seems to be the culprit of semi bad battery. Is there a way to prevent the tablet from waking up all the time? Maybe just unsync or turn off WiFi instead?

When my battery drain was bad I had something like 250+ wakeups from maps under the alarms section in only a few hours off the charger and Maps was showing up as the most common reason for partial wakelocks.
I think AudioOut_2 is normal - Im not sure what it does though. Im now at 8+ hours of standby with 99% battery. Under alarms im showing 138 Maps wakeups and 76 from google quick search box. My drain is all gone now though so i assume this is within normal range. The better battery stats thread and a few other threads on XDA have detailed descriptions of the different battery draining wakelocks and possible remedies. Not all wakelocks are bad though.

Please help?

So I just bought the Nexus 10 a day ago and I'm worried about a few things. The device gets hot/warm under minimal usage like browsing Chrome near the rear camera. It also seems that the battery life is terrible, like four hours to go from 80% to 0% with light usage. Also I've noticed that the screen randomly flashed brightly once or twice when it was turned down pretty low. Does anyone think this is cause for worrying or is it normal? Thank you for any answers.

I don't think so.. but I have a case on it now and the camera is the only exposed area. I don't think it gets warm from normal usage, but probably if I play a video or game. Then again, climate varies (also temp of hands affects heat perception). But next time I use it for an hour or more I'll take the case off and feel it.
Unfortunately I haven't done much testing on battery. I did run it down once to 20 percent once, I forget how long it took. But I'm sure it's longer than 4 hours.
What is your display?
And what does it say under battery? Usually screen should be main eater of battery unless intense apps are being used.

Ok, well mine seems to be doing better now with a few charges. Here's my battery info, I've only had it on a little today.
I had the same thing happen to me. After a few charges the battery lasts longer... Up to 2 days with consistent daily use, for example.

Snapchat Update Destroying Battery

Hi all,
Havent seen this post yet.
Just a message that anyone who uses snapchat, DO NOT UPDATE IT MY GOD.
You'll know it's updated when in the stories section has discover integrated into it.
Why you ask?
Well let's just say it's been draining the battery fast. Very fast.
And to add on it is overheating the phone since it is hogging on the CPU as well.
With GSAM my snapchat usage skyrocketed to 50% even though I only opened it once. Despite closing it, its CPU time kept increasing steadily for every second. It only stopped once I went into the task manager and closed it. But as soon as you get a notification of a new snap, it starts to drain again.
The only remedy I found so far is to literally uninstall it and forget about it for now. Tried clearing cache and reinstalling. None of it worked.
There's also an article on this from techradar if my word isn't enough
Just thought I'll let everyone know since this basically ruined my day. Thank god for the spare battery
Uh, battery usage seems about the same to me...
But the battery does drain pretty quickly to begin with anyway

On my HTC it lags like crazy, but the drain seems less than my G4. And my G4 is far more efficient than my M7.

I had the drain too. Went back to the version prior and it's been fine again.
Absolutely, 100% had the same issue. The app would freeze up, wouldn't close, couldn't message through it. And boy it sucked the battery down A LOT and caused overheating, which I never had ANY problem with heating on my Verizon model.
I deleted it. Phone is running fine.
For what its worth, since I installed Snapchat on the LG4 the picture/video quality is total garbage. Video seem to lag or skip when you watch what YOU have sent either on your phone or to your friends; its also highly saturated and pixelated. That has been an issue since day one.

Yeah it definitely doesn't make use of the power of the LG G4. Pictures in low light are actually dark versus the standard app which show it as perfectly fine. Only if they allow 3rd party snap apps again.
Seems like the drain is also occuring for sammy users as well. My friend in the cubicle over is having the same issue, couldnt figure out where it came from until I pointed it out. But my brothers phone is fine, then again he has an extended battery so he wouldnt even notice.
Eww, Snapchat sucks on Android, videos qualities and sound... Third App is better to send pictures and videos, but to watch the snaps I received I still use official Snapchat.

Hi all,
Havent seen this post yet.

Use greenify, and do the hibernate sleep option everytime you stop using the phone.
They updated the app today! Doesn't seem to have same issues now. Probably helped I kept harassing them on Twtter lol

Let me know how it goes. I'm holding out for now and enjoying the increased battery life from deleting it

Update fixed the battery drain for me too. I was convinced that my two star review on Google Play was what did it, but it looks like you beat me to it haha.

I also gave the app two stars! haha
Can confirm: the update worked for me. Before then, I was force stopping each time I quit the app.

Sudden massive overheat/battery drain/sluggishness issue...

All of the sudden my AT&T V20 (H910) is getting huge overheating issues. The phone's battey drains in less than 2 hours and it gets very sluggish doing anything. Many apps are just freezing up. I had to pull the ****ing battery just a little bit ago, it was just completely frozen. CPU-Z shows that the CPU is constantly at 100% and that it's always at 40 C or hotter.
I feel like this is probably being caused by an app but I am having a hard time finding something that will show me what is using the CPU. Is there a "task manager" app that will show me what is hitting my CPU? CCleaner does not show CPU. CPU-Z only shows me that it's at 100%, not which apps are utilizing it, making it just useless to me. Surely there must be a way to show what is hogging up the CPU, like in the Windows Task Manager.
Lol, of course now it's back to normal again. It's been doing this off and on for days now. I feel like it must be an app that's causing this.

I had huge similar issues. One thing that contributed was the offline Google maps in the SD card. I deleted them all and only downloaded my local area in the phone's memory. No problems since.
